This is a family favorite. The vibe is very Mexico casual and the food is always good. Most people do not think this place is much until you try the food nd then you're hooked. I have yet to have anything that was not gret from here, but my go to is the Burrito La Fuente, you can choose either stek or chicken and they smother it in sauce and crema. So good. We recently popped in to La Fuente for a weeknight dinner. One of the items that we ordered was the Molcajete La Fuente. It was really great (and, the leftovers were even better the next day!). It had carne asada, chicken, shrimp, beans, salsa, onions, pico de gallo, chorizo, jalapeno, avocado, and we added bacon and pineapple to it. It was plenty to feed 2 people that evening and the next day. The only suggestion I have to you is to order additional tortillas (as only 3 small ones come with it). We hadn't been to La Fuente in a while, but decided to go today. We were very happy that we did! Services was quick, and friendly. The manager remembered our family even though we hadn't been there in a couple of years! Kids had tacos, I had the chicken fajitas, and hubby had the papas con pollo. We also had some cheee dip. The chips there are great, the thin cantina style! Loved all our food, but got full pretty quick. But who doesn't love Mexican leftovers?!?! Hubby also had a lime margarita and one to go! We basically live on Mexican cuisine, and this would have to be the worst I've ever had. I don't think any seasonings were used, not even salt. I would've been a lot happier with TBell. We asked if their queso was the white cheese with other stuff in it (peppers, spinach, etc)...literally just melted cheese. The salsa was just ok. Compared to the other La Fuente locations I've visited, this one is not my favorite. My wife and I tried it a couple different times and it's just inconsistent... For example, we ordered some chips and queso once and got a 1/2 gallon of queso in a soup container!! not joking... Loved La Fuente. The food here was a tad more Americanized than my favorite Mexican restaurant in KC (Ixtapa off of Barry Road), but La Fuente is my new favorite American Mexican restaurant. This is a very bold statement, but here is why: 1. The SHRIMP CHIMICHANGA. For only $8.99 they gave me a generous batch of juicy shrimp (not dried out!!) wrapped in a cheesy deep fried tortilla. This was incredible. It was flaky on the outside and oozy cheesy and dough-y on the inside. The fiance and I agreed that I won with my order. It also came with rice, beans and guacamole. SO GOOD. This is a meal I would eat after a marathon.. my ultimate reward meal. 2. The Shrimp Nachos. You rarely see shrimp nachos on the menu. We got a half order and it was more than enough for 2 people. Lots of white cheese, on juicy shrimp (they cook the shrimp perfectly here) and green peppers and tomatoes and onions. Really good. 3. We also got an appetizer of guacamole. It was definitely made fresh and in-house. A good serving for the price of $4.99 (maybe it was $3.99). 4. Margaritas were good. Good price, but nothing else truly noteworthy. 5. The fiance got the fish tacos. He really enjoyed them. Said he would order again. I tried them and the fish actually tasted really fresh and it was grilled not deep fried or too greasy. However, I can't say much more about them because I was too busy in my shrimp chimichanga dream bubble to really give 2 shiz about his stupid tacos. So, in conclusion, I love La Fuente. Americanized Mexican food with very well-prepared seafood, a large menu with tons of options and a better price than On the Border. So I've lived north of smithville for 8 years now and am just now trying this place...... Call me chicken. Well this was a Sunday that we were in hurry and decided to try it out. Less than 10 minutes our food was in front of us!! I must say their chips and salsa were great, but my chimichanga(a safe choice in my mind) was flavorless. Being from SoCal I may be spoiled, but the entire family thought the food was bland through and through with no spice or flavor, including the salsa, which was a disappointment. The dessert also wasn't great, my xangos were rubbery with little flavor and the flan was neither creamy nor smooth. Really wish this could have been our go-to spot in Smithville but doesn't look like that will happen. I don't think our fish tacos were called fish tacos on the menu, but they sounded more like fish tacos than the fish tacos actually listed on the menu. They were fresh and seasoned just right. We eat here almost every Friday night. It is good Mexican food and they have great drink specials. The fajitas La Fuente are my favorite item but I haven't been disappointed in anything I have tried. My husband gets the chicken chalupa mostly and it is a full meal for under $5. (Yes, a small meal. But come on, you will be full by then on chips and salsa anyway.) They are really reasonably priced and have specials on food and drink every day.
