In for an early dinner on a Monday at 4. ORDERED: Sauteed Chicken with rice and plantains. Side of Black Beans. I have ordered this dish many times. It has always come on a large OVAL plate with plenty of room for everything. This time it came on a medium sized SQUARE plate with the chicken piled in the middle with the sides in to go boxes. I told the girls the plate is tooo small. Have it put on a large plate. What I got back was the SAME plate with the rice on it and the chicken pushed to the side. It looked like the guy in the kitchen had thrown out 1/2 of my food to make room for the rice. It's like they didn't have any large plates, I saw other orders on them. I drove by this restaurant many times but I never visited. The restaurant inside is very dull. Lacks of color and doesn't look very welcoming comparing to the colors of the outside sign. When I arrived there wasn't a line but their menu was a little bit overwhelming, it was really hard to understand it because changes so fast and the description and the words are very small. They have a little flyer by the counter but that doesn't help much. I was almost ready to walk away but I asked the cashier about the most sold dishes and she recommended me the seafood fried rice "chaufa" and the Steak Lomo. I decided to get those two dishes although I came for chicken...All came up for about $36, no drinks included. I bought everything to go, generous portions were served and the food arrived hot, the seafood rice had a good and tasty flavor a huge amount of seafood and the steak was seasoned well and tender, prepared medium well and served with fries and white rice. Went there had to wait like 15 to 20 minutes for a quarter of chicken, salad and fries and a aguadito. The reason they claim it takes that long was because they do the aquadito in the moment. Was craving for something filling and affordable and this place came into mind. I've been to other locations but this was my first visit at this one. Like other Granjas, the meal portions are big and good enough for 2. We ordered the special platter - steak lomo & shrimp served w/ 2 sides, fries & rice. The other was the seafood chaufa. The steak entree was enormous so we just decided to take the chaufa home. The steak wasn't the most tender but the sauce was delicious. The shrimp was a little overcooked as well but overall the dish was satisfying. Next day, we ate the chaufa but the seafood pieces were also somewhat rubbery. The rice also tasted a little bland. We paid about 30 bucks for the 2 meals and fountain soda. Ordered the whole chicken special to go and asked them to please cut it up in to 8 pieces. When I got home it was cut into 4 pieces and didn't look very fresh: usually the rotisserie chicken has a nice golden toasty skin.... this was light pale like it was sitting for a while. I didn't check the food before I left as they were starting to get busy and I just wanted to get out as quickly as possible since it's pretty tight inside. I called the restaurant when I got home to let the manager know about my order and the phone rang and rang and no-one ever answered. My order was always the 1/4 chicken with rice and beans and platanos on the side (definitely worth the extra charge). This dish is the perfect amount of savory and sweet, and super filling. "WOW" is all I can say after ordering my food. Lady in the front along with a young lady next to her handing out food looked miserable. The food is good, not great or excellent, but take into account most of it is less than 12 bucks... and the portions are huge!! I love La Granja. Back in Arizona we had a fast food chicken place called Pollo Feliz which was a Mexican chain. La Granja does a phenomenal job of fast food chicken, but with a Cuban flair. I normally opt for a 1/4 or 1/2 chicken with rice and black beans. I have had some of the other dishes like the palomilla, pollo saltado, etc. I like the yellow onion sauce from the sauce bar. It goes great with the chicken. The prices are good. The only reason for the loss of 1 star is due to the service. It is hit or miss, with an emphasis on the miss. read more

You want a bang for you buck? Well, this is the place. The portions are huge and the authenticity of this place is quite evident by both the workers and the patrons. Think of this place as better and cheaper Pollo Tropical with a Peruvian twist. The hubby and I wanted something to eat, but nothing too big so we opted for La Granja since they had a pretty decent special ($3.99 for chicken, rice and beans), but it was not available during the weekends. So I opted for the next best thing. I got the 1/4 chicken, rice, beans, sweet plantains, and fried yuca. Brian opted for the Chupe de mariscos, which is a seafood broth with all sorts of sea monsters. Brian's seafood soup was delectable, it had octopus, scallops, fish, shrimp, and calamari. You can't go wrong with this treat. The chicken that I ordered was also delicious, it was perfectly cooked and juicy thoughout , not a bit of meat was dry. The sweet plantains were excellent and the yuca was delicious. Also you want to try the sauces they have at the table, the creamy garlic cilantro sauce was perfect with the fried yuca. I've only experienced the grilled half chicken but I gotta tell ya, it puts Pollo Tropical's chicken to shame any day! The chicken is well-seasoned, well-cooked, tender, and juicy. And the sauces that they have to accompany the chicken are awesome as well. There's an kinda onion-y yellow sauce, another sauce that looks like salsa but tastes WAAAAAAAAAY better, and a few other sauces. Just so you know, the place is not that large and they have indoor seating, so chances are, if you go to grab take out, you're going to booty-whop somebody while trying to order, and if you dine in, you'll have someone's ass in your face at some point while they wait to order.
