If you like authentic Mexican food then I highly recommend. I had the shrimp molcajete in the bubbling lava bowl. So good. Much better than I've had in Mexico!!! Such a depth of flavor I can't even describe. Spicier then I expected. But I got through it. It came with taco shells, rice and beans, lettuce and tomatoes, and the best guacamole I've had in awhile. I also tried a lengua taco. It was way too much food but I have to try it whenever I see it in a menu. The lengua was tender and they put a lot of meat. Served with cilantro and onions. The chimichanga was huge but I didn't try it. I was told the beef was actually steak and delicious. I had the hibiscus tea. Very good but tried the horchata and would get that next time. A couple things - the food is made fresh so it took over half an hour to get the food. Worth the wait! The place was clean but could use some updating. There's a little bit of a language barrier. It honestly reminded me of some of the restaurants we've found walking the streets of Mexico. I wouldn't let that hinder you from trying the food if you prefer a fancier atmosphere. read more

My boyfriend and I were craving some real Mexican food and we wanted to try something new. We've tried a number of places in the area already. This place hits the spot perfectly. The prices are good and the flavors are excellent. We had mushroom quesadilla, suadero tacos, chorizo tacos and chorizo torta. Along with that, we had horchata and Jamaica (hibiscus flower) to drink. This place was okay. Was not a fan of the ambience and there were bugs by window seating. The chips for the table were good. The enchiladas were good but the rice that came with it was not. My wife and I have been coming here ever since the first time we saw the reviews on yelp. This little mexican restaurant is phenomenal. One of the few places in south jersey with real authentic mexican food. Best of all its BYOB!!! Atmosphere: On the inside it is just a basic set up of tables and chairs, nothing fancy. They have some decorations which make it look somewhat presentable. Be prepared to watch and listen to Telemundo because that's all they have on. The waitresses are very polite but do not speak English very well unless you get the daughter who is very young but a wonderful host. Food. The food is out of this world and the portions are ridiculously huge. Any meal my wife and I have ordered we could only eat half, even when we had skipped lunch. Half the stuff on the menu I have no idea what it is. Luckily they have English translation on the bottom of each menu item. Price: You cannot beat the prices. I think the most expensive thing on the menu was $14.00 and it was some kind of Mexican steak. Most items are priced around the $9 to $12 range. That's right we get diner and lunch for the next day for only around $30 a couple. And did I mention it's BYOB. Overall: This is the best little mexican restaurant around. I am finally going to finish my review for this quaint and no-frills eatery. Although it may not be fancy on the inside the food is absolutely amazing! This is about two blocks from me so I usually order delivery but on occasion I do go and eat in. My husband usually orders Carne Asada and it is a very large portion. It comes with a large piece of steak, yellow rice, refried beans, guacamole, and salad. I, on the other hand, vary my selections every time I order. I have ordered chimichanga, never a disappointment...and always fresh. I have also ordered the shrimp torta...OMG... Mouth watering sandwich.. I always ask them to leave out anything spicy..I don't like anything too spicy. I also have ordered El Alambre..which is a platter with a mixture of steak, chicken and shrimp sautéed onions and peppers with melted Mexican cheese on top , and served with rice, refried beans, guacamole, and salad. I have ordered at La Hacienda a few times, and the food has been decent, nothing spectacular but gets the job done when you're hungry. This most recent time we ordered enchiladas, nachos and a torta. Our food was room temperature even though we ordered it only 15 minutes prior and we live 2 blocks away. We couldn't reheat the foood due to the lettuce and sour cream. I'm sad to say that I did not have the experience that the rest of the reviewers did. I wish I had! We came here for take out Friday after our friends recommended La Hacienda to us. The first thing that got me was how unpleasant the people were to us. We were virtually ignored while we waited to place our order - and the restaurant was EMPTY. Finally, we ordered a shrimp burrito and a chicken chimichanga platter to go. We waiting about 10-15 minutes, which is fine, but when it came time to pay, the girl behind the counter just gave me a piece of paper with what we had ordered on it, no amount or anything. I asked her how much we owed and she stared at me. Maybe she blinked once or twice, hey, good for her, right? Finally, through a series of hand gestures and kooky winks, we deduced that we needed to pay $20.15. Ok, great! I gave her my card and she disappeared...for 10 minutes. I was so over it by this time I had the fleeting thought of just leaving, she could have my card, I'm broke anyway - joke's on her! Finally she returned and we went on our merry way. (on a side note, she totally spoke the Queen's English to a group of regulars who came in shortly after we did, so there was no language barrier.) So we get back to our humble abode and open up our take-out containers and I am totally surprised at the amount we got for our money. It was HUGE. Enough to feed a small family for 3 days, not bad! Well, until I dug in, that is. P dug int his burrito and I went for my rice and beans first - holy Salt City, USA! You know when you eat something so salty that your lips shrivel a little bit? No? C'mon. Well, that actually happened. And then I realized something odd...the rice..."It tastes like Chinese food..." said P, just as I was thinking the same. I frowned and tried my chimi, the same thing, all salt. Salt and blocks of cheese. Not shredded, not melty, not even fresh. Just blocks of sliced cheese about the size of a pack of Post-It notes. Yuck. I'm going to pause here to say that I love Mexican food. I love it more than anything. If someone said, "Ok, you can have a really awesome boob job or Mexican food for a year - I'd take the tacos." I also cook a lot of Mexican, authentic Mexican. I pride myself on my ability to cook slammin' Mexican food. So please, don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining (thanks Judge Judy). The bottom line here is that I really wanted so badly for this to be good. I've been spoiled living in Philly for the last 12 years. Taco Riendo, La Azteca, that other place I liked off Passyunk - not the white people Mexican food, the other place, you know. All good. This wasn't good. Bad service, salty food, Chinese food rice. Hole in the wall, but best mexican food I've had in NJ. Everytime I have gone, the place has been empty making you wonder how they even stay open. But once you try the food you know why. The guacamole is so fresh and the texture is not too chunky, not too smooth. The tostados with chicken are so yummy. They are crunch and have shredded chicken, lettuce, and a cream sauce on top. We usually order those with the guac, and a main course. Their homemade rice is tasty too. I would say the only thing lacking is ambiance. Just discovered this great Mexican place! Food is authentic, generously proportioned and delicious. Each entree seemed costly until we saw how much food you get. It's a great deal - 9 bucks for full "lasagna" sized tray! We got 3 meals out of each entree. A friendly staff person took our order and we watched the kitchen staff cook our meal up fresh. The refried beans and Spanish rice accompaniment were outstanding and the entrees (enchiladas, burrito, flautas) were the icing on the cake. We opted for take out but a basic dining room is also available. Easy off street parking is available too, a nice feature for the snow piled main roads. We will back soon! read more

The other reviewers have obviously have no taste whatsoever! The food was all dried out. There was little to no taste. The chips were so stale I chipped a tooth, my dog could barely chew them. The portions were huge and the prices were great, but I would rather have half as much good food than any of this. We were never so sick from "Mexican" food before!
