La Huerta - La Huerta on Garrison - Mexican Near Me - Fort Smith, Arkansas

Spring arrives and taking advantage of the warmer weather down here versus my native Chicago a patio was the one and only requirement. There is a large and open patio with a cool stage for music on Thurs/Fri/Sat. Inquiring about this as a potential party spot for us, we were told the kitchen closes at 10:30pm and the bar stays open for the stragglers. Authentic my ass; I have to say about all the Mexican food in this town. Things started off on a bad note with weak salsa and blended green, partially brown Guacamole that was disgusting and I can't imagine that it was made in the kitchen; my guess is food service delivery. Fail. Ordering was a bit of a headache with nothing close to authentic tacos. Steak tacos come completely plain... we asked for onions and cilantro which is how the darn Carne Asada is supposed to be made but we were pressured in to getting the Pico de Gallo instead (presumably because it was premade). This was annoying and strikes me as lazy but the pico de gallo turned out pretty good and came in an large bowl. We also asked for corn tortillas which met some resistance but the waiter acquiesced. We also requested hot sauce which turned out to be much more authentic than we anticipated and we were very happy with the result of a nice red chili sauce, totally the highlight that brought the tacos up a notch. Dollar beers from 5-8, music and cheap margaritas are the real reason to go. The inside is very nicely designed, cool carved, painted wood artwork above the bar. read more

Stopped to eat lunch here, because my mother in law insisted. We had never been before. The chips, salsa, and tortillas were good. Their margarita glasses are really cute, and my MIL liked her margarita. But everything else was kind of terrible. My taco salad was good at first, but later in the day my stomach was hurting. My husband got chicken fajitas, and they were cut really weird. Almost like shredded meat instead of fajita strips. It was just strange. Also, our waiter wasn't the most pleasant, but he was okay. I don't think I would come back here again. There are better options in the area. read more

Don't recommend the Bloody Mary or this restaurant after our last visit. Drink was horrible, finally able to tell server who told us the manager said we waited to long. This business was packed, we tried to flag down a server to no avail. Food was subpar and we didn't get our entrees at the same time so one ate without the other. Last visit for us. Figure if one will ruin future visits over a $6 FULL nasty drink..goodbye. read more

I went to the Rogers Ave restaurant near Central Mall with a group of girlfriends. We all enjoyed different dinners there. It was the first time that I tried a cheese chili relleno there, and was pleasantly surprised how good it was with their Mexican red ( brown ) sauce. It was as good as any I've had elsewhere (except in Santa Fe, NM.) I am not a fan of the cheese enchiladas that I've ordered in the past there, so I now have a reason to go there. Their salsa is good, maybe a bit sweet, and our service was excellent. The only downside (every visit) is waiting in line for one single cashier in the large, busy, place. It takes forever when ones ahead use credit or debit cards.They would be wise to have another cashier. read more

Waiter was awful, not friendly, never smiled and was slow. Chicken in the enchiladas were horrible. Steven special was not good. Just all around bad service. The only thing I enjoyed was the live music. Will not be back here. read more

Very disappointed. Made a to go order for fajita chicken nachos, I made it clear 3 times over the phone the fixings I wanted for my side, I was charged 17.00 which I understand, but part of my food was missing, very very small portions, like 2oz of cheese dip for a large nacho order? Really? No napkins in my Togo bag either, food was cold when I arrived on time. You guys need to pay more attention. read more

As Mexican restaurants go this is about as good as it gets in the local area around Ft. Smith and Van Buren. I was very impressed by the general freshness of the food, and the flavors. They have other salsas besides the one they bring to your table, so if it's too mild for you please ask them to bump up the heat! They brought out an excellent salsa upon request - I could have bottled that stuff and taken it back home to Utah with me! I had the chili verde and it was really good. It wasn't the best I've had, but it wasn't the worst either. The tortillas were fresh, and so were the rice and beans that accompanied the dish. Great job La Huerta! Keep up the good work! read more

If you are looking for a unique, truly delicious & well-priced Mexican restaurant, this is your place!!! Menu prices can be considered cheap, but the quality of the food is outstanding. Not Tex-Mex, not authentic Mexican, but the perfect combination of American Mexican food. I highly recommend the burrito fajita! We actuly eat at the La Huerta on Townson, but this review was deleted and yelp will not allow me to re-post. The food is great, but the service is horrible. We have gone to La Hurta countless times, but the last 5-6 times we have gone the service has been horrible. Most of the servers seem friendly, but extreamly busy. They dont bring refills on drinks, or offer refills on your chips when you order cheese dip. We love the food, and wish the service would get better. After multiple second chances we won't be returning. read more

I love the chicken tortilla soup. It is inexpensive and very good. The margaritas here are very good as well. On the weekends there is live music and in the summer it's fun to sit out on the patio/ they open up all the windows so it feels like you are outside if you don't get a patio seat. The rest of the food is pretty standard fare. A lot of people say good things about the stephens special but I've never tried it. read more

Good: Fast, great prices, good value. Problem: I ordered a margarita from the bar, no salt. It comes out with salt so I ask him to remake it. He dumps it into a clean glass with no salt and re-serves it to me (but now with all the salt flavor from the first glass). Annoying. It was right on try #3. It's a typical Mexican chain restaurant with pretty much the same menu items as other Mexican chain restaurants. No surprises here, you know what you're getting. No outstanding raves, but no complaints about this place. This location seems to be the best of all of the Fort Smith La Huerta locations, so I'll give it that. They also make really, really good pina coladas. read more

Stopped in for lunch- good service, good food, and decent prices. Parking was a hassle but given the area, had to be expected.

We go here on Thurs; margaritas are only $2 then! I kinda wish they would change/ expand the food menu, cause I'm not a fan of most stuff; especially the cheese sauce they want to put on everything! We always have a lot fun, cause we're doing girls night, but seem to have a problem getting good service most of the time. In the summer, better get there early, it's packed as most want to sit on the patio & hear the band play the same 6 songs they always do! Ugh! Truly one of Ft. Smith better restaurants. Try the chicken chimichanga. It is awesome. And also one of the cheapest places in town to go and relax with live entertainment Thursday thru Sat. Friends (locals) took us to this restaurant which they frequent often. They said our unfavorable experience was not typical, but they were embarrassed they'd made the recommendation. Although it was not busy, it took quite a while to get drinks once ordered, and service after the food order was placed was non-existent. The chips and salsa was gone quickly and 2 requests did not get more to the table. Also couldn't get drink refills until we were ready to leave. There were 8 of us at the table. When the food was brought out, first 3 people were served, several minutes later 3 more were served, and a full 10 minutes after the first food was served we had to get up and go find a server to find out where the last 2 people's food was (everyone else was waiting to eat together so most of us had luke-warm or cold food by then). No apologies, no explanations. The food was only okay, not anything special. I hear their other location on the other side of town is much better in both food and service, but not sure I'll give any La Huerta another chance. read more

Here's what happen at La Hurt ya tonight. I came to Fort Smith to celebrate Caitlin's birthday. I arrived at the restaurant at 5:00 pm and got a table in front of the band. I had an appetizer, a couple of beers and water. There were three menus and silverware on the table and queso and chips, and water. I went to use the restroom. When I came back, there were three people sitting at my table. Caitlin was expected to arrive in 15 minutes. I immediately went looking for someone to explain why this happened. All that I got from a person who I guess was some sort of manager, was that this was a family restaurant and i cannot be shouting. Mind you I did not use any profanity. (I find it hard to believe myself but it's true) I was asked my the management person to leave due to my shouting. I told him I was angry, that is why I was shouting. I asked for my tab and was forced to pay for my queso, which I didn't finish. I have no use for establishments that treat their patrons in such an unprofessional and disrespectful manner. read more

I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, but I did enjoy their shrimp cocktail served in a monster margarita glass cup. My many visits are usually on Thursdays because of their $2 margarita special. They have a large, open, and covered patio area with a live band on certains nights. I say it is a cool place to eat and drink with friends. read more

I was in Ft. Smith, a week for work. I went to La Huerta (the one on Garrison Avenue) 3 times. The food was fabulous. My favorite dish was the steak fajita taco salad. It was to die for. The steak fajita and grilled vegetables were second to none! I wish they had this restaurant in Chicago so that I would have time to try their entire menu. Their chicken enchilada and ground beef taco salad were also very good. read more
