Growing up in Kentucky, I was never a fan of Mexican food. While I have some nostalgia for Chi-Chi'a, and giggle now that I know what it means in Spanish, it took moving away to Texas to become a fan because I found out what good Mexican and Tex-Mex foods were supposed to be like. La Isla gets it right. The food is always good regardless of which dish I've tried. The atmosphere is nice and the expansion much needed. I've never experienced the service problems others have but I hope that hasn't become the norm. Even then, hopefully a few friendly comments from customers will steer it in the right direction because Lawrenceburg doesn't have many good options. As such, I'll give them some decent leeway. read more

It looks like it's in an old Wendy's location, so I didn't expect much. But, it was inexpensive, and the portions are absolutely huge. A major basket of Chips & Salsa are the appetizer, and my lunch special, the Chili Relleno, Taco, Guacamole Salad, Beans, and Rice was so delicious. I'd certainly return and recommend it! Nice ambiance and great service, but the taquitos I ordered were burnt on the ends and soggy with oil in the middle. The chicken inside the taquito was charred at the ends of the tortilla. I could eat about one inch on either side of the middle that was reasonably crisp without being scorched. My husband enjoyed his steak fajitas and sides. The salsa was bland, though, and I just can't go back to a Mexican place that cannot fry a taco or taquito correctly. read more

This used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Once they became the only gig in town (for a brief period of time) they became really busy and hired a bunch of other staff that completely suck. The new staff are unfriendly and they fail to be attentive. We stopped going there after our server completely ignored us once he took our order. He did not provide drink refills and wouldn't bring our check, even after he said he would "be right back." The food has always been really good, so I do miss it. They also significantly raised their prices. It's a shame the place went down hill, it used to have such a close knit, friendly staff. But they are no longer the only Mexican restaurant in town, so that's where I now spend my time and money. read more

La Isla used to be my favorite place. We'd eat here every Friday night. They started to get way too busy and the new staff that was hired to help just didn't make the place the same anymore. It lost the friendly feel that it used to have. The prices even increased too. The food is excellent, but we've moved on to other restaurants, and may check back in at a later date. read more

Patio is a four, food is a one. Service is a two. The salsa is canned tomatoes put in the blender with a couple sprigs of cilantro. It tastes like tomato juice. They do have a tomatillo salsa that was way hot. That was the best thing I had. This is the second time I have eaten here. The food is gross. It's not authentic whatsoever. I suppose there are crappy restaurants in Mexico as well but they are probably near the border. A good test for authenticity, if the menu has an entree called speedy Gonzales, it's probably not authentic. If the place is packed with middle aged white people with fish bowls full of neon green margaritas, probably not authentic. I had enchiladas ranchera. I received two soggy flour tortillas covered in ez melt cheese and a bland slightly sweet tomato sauce. I am not a fan of anyplace that serves fake cheese. I don't even want soy cheese but that would be better than a cheese food made from vegetable oil. I don't even know what the gf had. I don't think she knows either. It was a big pile of crap also covered in ez melt. If I found this in the yard I would rush my dog to the vet. It just didn't look like anything you would want to eat. After she tasted a couple bites it turns out it was not anything she wanted to eat. I did enjoy my one beer in the sun. I would have had another had our waiter bothered to check on us. Won't be back. My husband and I just ate there tonight and we found a rock the size of a pinto bean in the beef burrito. They didn't even seem apologetic, and it seemed like they had this problem before. Waiter didn't even come back and check on us after we got our food, we had to wave him over there after we found the rock. The manager never came and talked to us either. read more

Very nasty front foyer. You can smell the bathrooms. Rest of the dinning hall needs good cleaning on a regular basis. If the food was not fantastic I would never go back. But the food is that good. read more

We placed our drink order of margaritas, of course, ordered our food and got our drinks. The food was delivered in a timely fashion by someone other than our server. The server showed at our table 20 seconds after the other guy put our food on the table, said "everything good? Great!" Without even waiting for a reply, he walked away. We never saw him again until I had to flag him down from half across the restaurant for our checks after our drinks had sit empty for quite a while. I probably would have ordered another. The time was 7:30 pm when we came in so the dinner rush was pretty much over. The fajitas with steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo were good though. The staff were all very friendly, just MIA at times. I'll go back, despite this one event. Hopefully it was a fluke. read more

This is by far the worst food we've ever had. Anywhere. We were both ill most of the day after eating. Beans from a can and Ortega would be an improvement. Also, it was not cheap. La Isla is that rare place in a small town like lawrenceburg where you can take anybody and they will love it. I recommend nachos degallado. It's nacho combo fajitas covered in queso. But my brother prefers the shredded chicken quesadilla and he asks for cheese sauce on it as well. But, if you like shrimp look at their seafood options too. read more

Wanted lunch on the road that wasn't fast food. They have an A sanitation rating which might be the best thing about the place. Food is very mediocre. Service was friendly. Order something 'safe'. I ordered a hard-shelled beef taco and a tostaguac. Taco was bland but OK. Guacamole on the tostada was some awful inferior commercially prepared brand. I had to scrape it off. Don't waste your money. Chips were OK. Salsa very average. read more

They have the best Mexican food in town. My family loves this place and we go there a lot.

My grandmother recently went to this establishment with a friend and I asked her to bring me the special (chicken, rise, and queso) to go. She did and I started eating it. After a few bites I noticed a strange after taste with each bite that had a chemically taste. the more I ate the more pronounced the taste became. A little concerned, I asked my mom to try a chip, to rule out that I was just imagining the taste. She immediately spit out the chip and said "that tastes like mop-water" The whole time I was eating I was trying to place what exactly the after taste was but after she said "mop-water" I realized that's exactly the taste. The chips tasted like they had had fabuloso filled water sprayed or spilled on them before they left the restaurant, it was absolutely disgusting. I cannot believe that this restaurant would let something like this go out of their doors and out into the public. Time has yet to tell if the "mop-chips" will have any negative effects on myself or whoever else had the misfortune of ingesting them. read more
