A meal at Mi Fiesta (aka The Little Monkey) is usually fun! The restaurant is in an old storefront downtown so it's basically a shotgun setup. Tonight they were having live music, but we left for the Christmas parade before it started. Hubby ordered the chicken fajita special while I ordered the fish tacos on corn tortillas. We drank unsweetened iced tea and water respectively, but I have enjoyed their sangria in previous visits. The food was hot and tasty and the portions were just right. Mi fiesta is a downtown Frankfort Mexican eatery located off the brick pathed road in the historic downtown portion of the city. Me, my wife and two of our friends stopped in here for lunch one day after doing a bourbon tour at nearby Buffalo trace. The inside was medium sized with lots of vibrant colors and decor that fits a traditional Mexican theme. Out service on our trip was a bit on the slower side and our order was slightly messed up so not the greatest but the waitress was nice and friendly with a positive attitude. You did get started with complementary Chips and salsa and they were pretty solid. Not the greatest we had but not the worst. Middle of the road would be a fair assessment. Entree wise I personally went with the chicken and rice and it was extents bland and flavorless. They skimped big time on the queso. Maybe a teaspoon of it if that. Barely covered one medium sized piece of shredded chicken. The rest of our group ordered things such as the Chimichanga, Fiesta burrito and the Burrito special (served beef style and not chicken like ordered). All 4 of us all said the same two things about our meals. Small portions and extremely bland. No amount of salt or even using the complimentary salsa could bring flavor to these meals. Overall not a great visit. Pricing was not bad at all but hardly a anything else here escapes the "bad" label. read more

A few friends and myself attended this restaurant one afternoon during the week. We have never been here so we decided to check it out. The ambience and decor was OK. It could've been a little more touched up in comparison to others. They still had a lot of 2020 pandemic, masks and social distancing and things like that up everywhere which was strange to me. But anyway, the food itself was a two star for sure. I got a burrito me home and it was small and did not really have much flavor or taste. The service was OK about three stars. Location/seating: in downtown, location is on a cool brick road leading to the old state Capitol, it has lots of character and outdoor seating for tables of 2-4 with closeup views of the old Capitol building. Beautiful at night and open late for this town! Food: got the grilled chicken with vegetables and rice and chips and salsa. First of all this salsa is killer!!! And love that they serve them with unsalted corn chips. I would come here just for a huge bag of chips n salsa! But wait, the flavor on the grilled chicken and veggies was soooo good. Super impressed. Service: they are so nice! Parking: came on a Sat night around 9:30pm but I have a feeling it was desolate because the Kentucky game was on lol! Refried beans are bland and watery, rice also pretty flavorless. My daughter had the grilled chicken quesadilla and that was decent. The flan is super disappointing, it looked old and curdled! Food was good although take note: it is very much "gringo" - par for most places in the region it seems which i don't totally understand this phenomenon.... No al pastor, beef cheeks, cojito etc. Steak, chicken and ground beef or detectable cilantro etc. A bright spot is they feature palatas. They were out when we were there. if you see "popsicles" advertised they are actually paletas/ mexican style ice cream bars. read more

Not super impressed... started off ordering a pitcher of not frozen strawberry margaritas. It came out frozen . Then we waited about 15 minutes for the server to come back to take our order. Me and the BF were splitting and order of the churros while our friends got meals. We did not get our dessert to share until after they were almost finished eating, even though they knew we wanted it when they got their meals. I eat here about once a month. Everything I order is good, tastes good and is what I expect from an "American" Mexican restaurant. The building is in historic downtown. It is a smaller venue but it's because it's a historic building. It's been fully renovated twice and they keep it very clean. Even the bathrooms are always clean. I really enjoy eating here. On the weekends they have live music and it's a party. The only bar in Frankfort is across the street so it can get wild and loud. Doesn't mean it's not fun but if you aren't into that sort of thing call ahead on the weekends and see if they have live music. read more

Absolutely terrible. Do not -- I repeat -- do NOT go to this place when there is live entertainment. If you're already deaf, then I suppose you can, but if you have good hearing, you will not any longer, by the time you leave. That alone was enough to completely ruin the dining experience, but the service, while good when you first arrive (probably to make it seem as though it's a place where you'd like to have dinner), is also terrible. Once you have ordered, the *fair*, at best, food will come quickly. After that, you will not see your server again. After waiting, just for the check, for half an hour, we had to find someone who worked there and was actually doing work, and request that they send our server to our table so that we can get the check. When the server *finally* showed up and brought the check, we discovered that he had not entered the costs properly (see the attached picture, showing $20 mysteriously added (we did not give cash), and $46 actually being charged), then sigh... another half hour before we saw him again. He could not explain the errors on the check and just made something up, grinning, and hoping to get a good tip. What a joke. The atmosphere is among the worst you will ever see. The concrete walls are about 20 feet apart, so they squeeze as many tables in that narrow place as possible. Those concrete walls reflect the noise, making the deafening noise even more deafening. In short, dinner at this restaurant will be a miserable experience. Just terrible. No, just *pitiful* would be the best way to describe dinner there. The good? The people are friendly. Some of them. The reality? The food is average. The atmosphere is awful, making almost every moment in the place a complete misery. I hate to write such critical reviews -- I do care about the people who own the business and the ones who work there -- but I also wanted to warn you about this restaurant. Beware. While visiting my parents last week, we ordered take out from Mi Fiesta. We called in the order and it was ready in the 15 minutes it took us to get there. The owner actually brought out the food to us right as we pulled up. She is so friendly. The food, 2 chimichangas, a chicken cheese and rice, and steak fajitas, was prepared without the usual greasiness many Mexican places offer. It was fresh and warm with good flavor. The chips and salsa were also fresh. The salsa was a bit spicy, though I like that. I'd say it's a medium, as salsas go. I'd like to try their outdoor seating sometime.
