IMPORTANT- make sure you have a reservation (made online) however, it's also important that you get a confirmation email. I made one and did not receive a confirmation email so there must have been a glitch in the system and it did not go through. However, we put our name down on a Saturday evening and only had to wait 20 minutes. The place is very small and charming- we set less than a foot away from another couple which made the experience more fun. We were greeted by a great server and he accommodated to our language- we ordered a glass of champagne and a beer then 6 escargot to start. It was fun diving into the culture as well as delicious. The meals were perfect size for us and had so much flavor! We dipped the potatoes from the beef with the ravioli cheese and it was the most delicious combination. I get the buzz about this place, we had such a lovely time as a traveling couple and would go again for the whole meal anymore!
Great authentic French food. Tastes like it came from your French grandma's kitchen. Everything is soooo good! Our favorite in all of Paris! Ambiance of old-time Paris, warm welcoming staff, excellent service, superb comforting French classic dishes, large portions and very reasonable prices. It's got it all! Be sure to make reservations for dinner.
First of all... I took a chance. It was bitter cold and Saint Germaine passage was crowded. I knew I'd never get a reservation for after 7pm, but as it was only 4, I decided to take a chance. I really wanted to try the duck. I went inside and in my horrible French asked if I could have "a place port un." The server was so sweet. He sat me at a very warm table and helped me understand the menu. The food was superb. Warning: the duck tajine is very rich. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. The almonds atop the sauce add the perfect touch. More than anything, I was grateful for the kindness and attention to detail and courtesy. People like this server make the world a better place.
Of all the meals I had in Paris, La Jacobine was my absolute favorite. Everything here was incredible - if you're nervous but curious about Escargot - this would be the place to get it. The foie gras mill fuelle was heavenly. Both duck plates were incredible, we couldn't pick a favorite. Their cheesecake was also divine. They are a very popular place so I recommend going for lunch (like we did) or trying to make a reservation for dinner. We tried to come a second time for dinner on a whim, arrived around 7:30, and they didn't have anything open until 9. If we didn't have a kiddo with us we gladly would have waited - they are worth it.
Service was amazing and friendly! Food was great as well. Various vegetarian options are available. This was my partner's first time trying escargot and it was prepared well. The French onion soup and Truffle Ravioli was superb. The desert dishes had an amazing presentation, which was greatly appreciated. The interior was small and lively.
I have been eying out La Jacobine to have Coq au vin. It's one of the dishes I wanted to make sure to try while in Paris. Knowing they open at 7pm. I left early so I could arrive around opening to dine early. The Metro had different plans for me. One leg of the Metro confused me. It confused me earlier in the day but I figured it wouldn't be that bad this time. Oh...it was and when I got to La Jacoline, I was told the wait time was till 10pm. Super disappointed but I have no back up plans and other good restaurants would be busy as well so I decided to wait it out. While waiting, I noticed they have 4 chairs right outside for customers to sit on. Fortunately I got one early and didn't have to pop the Asian squat. The restaurant is bright and cozy with a family atmosphere. I didn't want to be rude so I didn't ask if I could buy something to drink while I wait. My boredom got the better of me so I asked. They said it's fine! Yay! Something to do while waiting. So many people walked by the restaurant while waiting. I got to talk to some diners waiting to help kill some time which was nice. Alex was amazing because he squeezed me in and I got in around 9pm vs the original 10pm I was quoted. He provided exceptional customer service all night. When I got in, I knew my order. I ordered their Mille-Feuille De Foie Gras as an Entrees and the Coq Au Vin as my Plats. My drink was a bottle of bubbles. It was a nice paced meal to enjoy the food and conversation. Since I was alone, I made friends with the couple next to me. Small world, the female was from HI and also attended Kalani High. The food was amazing! Totally worth the wait and everything. I do highly recommend people to make reservations though.
Almost everyone we know said we had to visit La Jacobine while we were in Paris. So the morning when we were done with Musée d'Orsay and it was still early for lunch, we decided to walk over to the restaurant and see if we could get in without a reservation. Probably due to it being a weekday in October, there were only 2 small parties ahead of us in the line when we arrive around 1145 before they open at noon. We didn't have any problem getting in but the small restaurant filled up very quickly. I ordered the foie gras and duck confit. The foie gras was very good but I had the best duck confit I had ever had. The skin was crisp and the meat was tender. Every bite ignited all my taste buds even though they were partially numbed from the absinthe I had had as an aperitif. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful as well. He spoke Spanish to a visiting couple seated next to us. Because of that, "gracias" slipped out from me a few times inadvertently when I meant to say "merci". Lunch was so good that we didn't want to go out for dinner to cancel out lunch. We got a baguettes and more butter on the way back to our apartment at dinner time.
This is in a super cute area; the restaurant is in a covered alley way with little shops and many other cute restaurants with patio seating. Service was excellent, and the waiter was very kind to non-French speaking patrons. We came in around 3:30 without a reservation and got seated within 5-10 min. I will start this review by saying I am not an expert on French food but based on the reviews we were excited to try escargot (for the first time!), coq au vin, and duck confit. All were excellent. I would say the escargot had the texture of mushrooms and was nicely flavored in a butter sauce and herbs and was pretty good. The waiter was kind enough to show us how to use the snail tongs and little fork! We also got the French onion soup was flavorful and I would certainly get it again. The duck confit which I've also never had before reminded me of Chinese duck but with different spices. It was cooked well and was great. The coq au vin was also good, very rich and tasted strongly of red wine, which is probably exactly what it's supposed to taste like, but it was just not my personal favorite. We finished off the lunch with a pot of tea, tarte tartin (a wonderful apple dessert) that melted in your mouth and served with a tart cream. Overall it was a great experience. We spent almost two hours here and loved the service, food, and atmosphere.
Lovely restaurant with meat forward / decadent saucy plates. From my experience eating French food thus far this place has large servings and more comforting styles food. I love the plats - most notably the wine beef stew and duck tajine with almonds and sweet creamy sauce. The lamb shank and duck fillets were also great. For the entrées, the foie gras and goat cheese salad were très bien! Dessert - tiramisu was alright since it was late night when we ordered and they made it just earlier so the cake have not soaked the coffee and rum. Cheesecake was good though. La Jacobine is in a small alleyway with a lot of other restaurants and bars and got lively in the evening. We had a reservation but had to wait another 30 mins to get in. The woman who served us was cheerful and attentive, which is rare to come by in Paris.
I'll start off simple it's a 10/10 it lives up to the hype. This was the best meal I had in Paris hands down. The food taste so fresh, not overly salty, and the portions are perfect. We had the duck gizzard salad and I'm not usually a huge fan of gizzard, but this was just amazing the pairing of the salty duck with the acidic tomato combined for the perfect salad I didn't know I needed. The duck with date sauce was something I've never thought of trying, but again to my surprise it was delicious. If you don't necessarily like mixing sweet with savory this dish isn't for you I however really enjoyed this. The pork cullet was my favorite dish it was tender and flavor packed and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. It was salty with a slight tanginess. I would 100 percent recommend this place to anyone visiting Paris unless you don't have a reservation and are in a rush we came with no reservation and it was an hour and a half wait which is valid. This was completely our fault make those reservations and try this restaurant you won't regret it!!!!
We had a great time at this cozy restaurant! The most impressive was that our attentive server remembered the names of everyone's he's seated! We didn't have a reservation so we waited outside for 40 minutes, staring at the guests eating, as if that could guilt them to finish faster. Didn't happen. Once seated (shoulder to shoulder to the next table), we ordered the 3 course meal. The fois grais app was melt-in-your-mouth magnificent. Hubby liked his onion soup but preferred the one he had at Petit Vendome. The mustard pork loin was so tender and prefe tly done, unfortunately the coq au vin was oso over cooked it was deconstructed. We also had a delicious profiterole for dessert, and paid under 80 Euros for a 2 course meal plus cocktails! read more
La Jacobine offers one of the best experiences in dining on French classics! The welcome is warm. The food very good. The portion sizes are large for a small person like me. The ambiance is historic being in a passage just off Rue André des Arts in the 6éme arrondisement. I ordered one of the Formule: Entrée, Plat et Dessert. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach! I chose classics: soupe l'oignon (onion soup), beef stew and profiteroles to conclude the meal. The crock of soup was steaming hot when it arrived. It had a deep beefy taste with oozy cheese and a slice of bread soaked in the broth. A bit too salty for my taste. The beef stew was delicious with small potatoes that were cooked perfectly and baby assorted vegetables. The beef chunks were cooked in a lovely sauce with olives. Most chunks were tender. I could and probably should have stopped there! But when in Paris (!), I don't often push the boat out on a big meal. This was my one! The profiteroles portion had an abundance of cream, custard and whipped cream. There were the two pastry parts surrounding the custard cream center. Then chocolate sauce poured atop. Wow. Time to either take a nap or walk it off! I did make a reservation by stopping by the restaurant the day before and putting my name down. I was #1 in the door for lunch. Don't try calling to reserve; stop by & get your name down or get wait listed. I dined on All Saints Day and it seemed many patrons were walk-ins - lucky. This popular restaurant was featured on a Paris Travel Channel and has had loads of exposure. For the cost, it's a steal. (Psst: it was just shy of €38 for 3-courses). Highly recommend. read more
Absolutely the best dinner I had in Paris! It was delicious, authentic French cuisine. I've never had the royal treatment like I did here. The staff was so amazing they greeted us with champagne, then a couple of bottles of Chablis, Antione was our waiter for our first night there and Alex was for the second time there , yes we went back for more. The Ambiance was romantic, dinner casual attire, the food was exquisite, makes you wish your meal wouldn't end because every bite melted in your mouth, absolute foodgasm! The whole dinner was an experience, they will make you feel special for sure. This is perfect for a date night , anniversary, and just because. Hard to get a Ressie, but we waited in line and it was less than 30 minutes, BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT! The escargot was delicious and we almost ordered a second round of 6! The foie gras was delectable and super tasty. The Beef Stew and Coq Au Vin were both recommended and flavor packed and delicious! The french onion soup was solid too. Staff was pleasant and helpful and the vibe was a mix of locals and visitors. Highly recommend and would go back! Instagram Escargot in the fast lane of flavor! Jacobine continues to impress me. Reservations are a must if you want to get in on the first seating at dinner. Lunch is also an option. Reservations online don't work yet (coming later this year) and trying to call can be a challenge because they only answer the phone twice a day for a 1/2 hour at a time. I had 2 different friends call who were in Paris and still couldn't get me a reservation. So our first night into Paris, we stopped by. As expected, booked for the night, so we chose another time for a lunch appointment and then the Thursday night before leaving. Since 2018, it's still a great find! We had lunch on Tue and dinner on Thu. Relatively, we ate the same things twice. My wife had duck confit, foie gras, and escargot. I choose the pork mignon for lunch and shared the beef stew with one of the girls in round 2. Among the entrees (what French consider appetizers), we discovered a new one for ourselves, the salmon fume. It was delish. Something else that was surprising was that both our girls loved it. The French fare was not doing it for them, but when we went to Jacobine, we left saying it was the best meal of the trip fo them. When it was time for dessert the 2nd night we were only going to order the raspberry macaron. I told our server that we were going to get the chantilly cream over hot chocolate. However, I learned that they have the same thing and he said that they were quite known for their's as well. Nothing was a disappointment!!!!! We continue to enjoy Jacobine and look forward to another chance there. read more

This location was an absolute joy! If you are able to get a table, I suggest you take it. The service is about as quick as any other restaurant in Paris. Do not plan on coming here, or any other location, if you are in a hurry. Please plan ahead. With that being said, my wife started with the French onion soup, and I got the ravioli truffle for starters. The French onion soup looked and tasted really good, but the star dish between the two was certainly the ravioli. It has a taste and stock that reminded me of a stuffed pasta from Olive Garden but very well done and with a flavor that I go to sleep dreaming about lol. Next, my wife got the Lamb Shank, and I got the Duck Confit. The lamb had great flavor and fell of the bone like we were back in Texas. The duck was done to perfection. I've never been a big duck confit fan because I feel as though it won't fill me up if I'm starting. I was wrong. This was great! We ended with the my wife getting the hot chocolate, and me getting the profiterole. I don't care for hot chocolate (don't shoot me, blame my taste buds bruh), but hers were pretty damn good. It was good enough that I might order it myself if/when I come back here. The profiterole though? I actually need to start a new paragraph for this thing. If you love cream, vanilla, soft and decadent pastries, and just genuine happiness, you MUST get this. I'm still kicking myself that I didn't come back to get another one of these. This place was a gem of a find. I have nothing but good things to say here. Try and be happy! read more

We loved this place while visiting Paris. We had to wait about 30 min but the host was very friendly and welcoming! Food was so good and really enjoyed the atmosphere! We each had a bowl of SOUPE À L'OIGNON gratinée maison (Homemade onion soup) and shared the CUISSE DE CANARD DU SUD-OUEST connite ( duck leg confit) Food was delicious and service was wonderful! read more

As a Paris first timer I highly recommend this restaurant. It's small so the tables are quite close together. But the food was really good and I appreciated the waiter taking the time to teach me the proper way to eat escargot. Anywhere else and I know that probably wouldn't have happened so I was glad to have ordered them here. Only thing to note is it's a very narrow staircase leading to the bathroom downstairs (just thinking of those less sure footed!) read more

**If you do not make a reservation at least two days in advance, you'll never get in; lunch or dinner.** **You can only call or make reservations in person** Antoine was our host, server, and comedian. He did not stop moving once we entered the restaurant. I would say there are seats for no more than 40 people. We started with a 50cl (1/2 bottle) of red wine, and a French blonde beer. My appetizer was the Camembert drizzled with some red wine, served next to a salad. The Camembert looks like a crème brûlée and is very warm. The apple in the salad was a great pairing to the cheese, as were the tomatoes and greens. The other appetizer was L'oignon soup...you don't need the word "French" when you're in France. It had a perfect amount of cheese, and the right amount of onions to make it smooth and tasty. You'll want to lift your bowl to finish it all. Antoine provided us with some bread and tap water (carafe d'eau) without us asking - something that is rare. Our main courses were nothing short of amazing. My salad had a veggie quiche on top, with carrots, green beans, tomatoes, eggplant and moist and incredible pieces of chicken. My wife's chicken, boiled potatoes and zucchini was also amazing, and each bite was flavorful and the perfect temperature. For dessert we had a macaronade (think a macaroon the size of a large graham cracker) filled with whipped cream and raspberries. It was a fresh and light s'more, if I'm trying to provide a visual comparison. We also had the chocolate cake, which was made with cream cheese, milk chocolate and a bit of almonds for decorative purposes. It was one of the lightest cakes I've ever eaten. We finished the meal off with a couple of cafe crèmes. Taking our time the meal was a lot 90 min, perfect for dinner. Like many of our meals (look for my other reviews of Paris restaurants), the experience was excellent. Do not be afraid of speaking French. If you can say hello (Bonjour) thank you (Merci) and au revoir (good bye) you can make it in France. I speak elementary French, and every place was happy to let me sound silly, but all spoke English and were easy to converse with. La Jacobine is a hidden gem you must make time to visit. Located 4 min from the Odeon metro, it's worth the walk or metro ride. read more

We had a great experience at La Jacobine. We made a reservation for a Friday night (highly recommend as they fill up fast), and were promptly seated. I ordered the foie gras entree, duck confit, and profiteroles for desert. This was my first time trying foie gras, and I thought the fig jam and salad accompanied the foie gras very well. The duck confit was the star of the meal: the duck leg was flavorful and meaty, and all the vegetables on the side were cooked perfectly. The profiteroles were great, and the chocolate sauce they served tasted like liquid chocolate. Throughout the night, our server was amazing making sure to check on us and bringing out the food quickly. Overall, I highly recommend checking out this place when in Paris! read more

What a stunning meal! My husband and I came to Paris on our honeymoon and came here for dinner on an evening when we didn't have plans. There is always a line so add your name to the list and come back and alert them when you arrive within the time frame they give you. We started with the foie gras salad and French onion soup. My husband had the coq us vin which he said was the best he's ever had in his life and I had the lamb shank, both served in hot crocks. We finished with mille-feuille and lemon merengue tart for dessert. Every single dish was amazing and I wish we had time to come back more than once on our trip! read more

It was a very cold day and all I wanted was some onion soup. I wasn't feeling super hot and I had just been on a 2plus hour Emily in Paris walking tour. We had passed this restaurant on the tour and our guide told us that they had great soup. We arrived around 4:25 and the employee said they were closing. I almost cried. I said that all I wanted was some onion soup. He asked the chef, who waived us in. The soup did not disappoint. My wife who is not a huge fan of onion soup even said it was tasty. The bread they serve was great too. I look forward to going back for a full meal. read more

The first night we attempted to get a seat, we were told that there was a long waitlist, which we understood because it was 1.5 hours before closing. Two days later, we arrived 10 mins before they opened for dinner service and were told that there was already a 90 min wait. We opted to grab drinks at a bar nearby while we waited. This place is insanely popular and we were happy we arrived when we did. The host was nice and accommodating & made sure we were comfortable as the dining area is quite cozy. We opted to get the Entree + Plat + Dessert. The ravioles were delicious & the duck was incredibly tender. I only wish that I had gotten the duck confit dry as opposed to the duck tagine (wasn't a fan of the sauce because it was sweet..almost like a peanut sauce). The tiramisu was okay. Would try again and had a great experience for the most part. read more

Everytime i'm in Paris i always make sure i eat here. I have travelled with my friends to Paris and have taken them here and everyone loved the food here. Food is excellent, service by Alex is amazing and it's really affordable too! Love the foie gras, ravioli and escargot for starters and Duck confit is my fave! Duck Tagine also good as well as the Salmon! It's a small place and always so busy so make sure to make a reservation. I'll be back in Oct. This restaurant is a must visit! The only thing i suggest is maybe online reservation coz it's hard to get a hold of them. read more

This place is the best definition of homey, great tasting food! Not only is the ambiance quaint (there are a total of maybe 25 tables), the service is impeccable. The waiters are very nice and also helpful. But most importantly the food was AMAZING! The French onion soup was made to perfection. Not too salty and just light enough. The truffle ravioli was the best item there that night. It was creamy, light, and very delicious. The hints of truffle were the perfect match. The beef stew was also very good. The beef was cooked perfectly and the stew was tasty for sure! My other favorite is the duck tajine. It was a perfect mix of salty and sweet from the dates. It was heavier than the other dishes but definitely delicious and the duck was cooked PERFECTLY! You have to eat at this place at least once while your there and you have to make reservations or you will wait at least 1-1.5 hours. The place is booked all the time and we had to wait over 1.5 hours but it was worth the wait! read more

Truly exquisite meal. For apps we loved the onion soup, ravioli with mushrooms and eggplant blue cheese. For mains the lamb shank was jammed packed with flavor and the duck with mushrooms sauce did not disappoint. We had young kids with us and they were happy to do the ravioli with basic cheese sauce which I sold to my kids as mac and cheese. House wine was also delicious. Superb service read more
Delicious food onnthe cutest street. The duck and the chicken were delicious. The chicken definitely has a Mediterranean feel to it. The waiter was super nice and provided the wifi as we were totally lost. The restaurant has amazing desserts too but we didn't try them. Highly recommended! read more
THIS is where I had escargot for the first time in my life!!! I was very apprehensive, BUT who leaves Paris without trying escargot at least once? Anyway, found this place while researching good places to eat french onion soup in Paris. Its a cafe located in a very cute, long alley near the city center. Went around noon and the place was pretty packed, but they still had 1-2 tables. The french onion soup was delicious. A thick, thick layer of melted cheese on top of that delicious broth. The escargot. Never had it before, but it was piping hot, fresh tasting, and super buttery. No weird smells/taste at all. They also give you a small thin fork and a special clamp so you could pick up and dig out those suckers. Really enjoyed my little snack session there. Left full & happy :) read more
