Great authentic French food. Tastes like it came from your French grandma's kitchen. Everything is soooo good! Our favorite in all of Paris! Ambiance of old-time Paris, warm welcoming staff, excellent service, superb comforting French classic dishes, large portions and very reasonable prices. It's got it all! Be sure to make reservations for dinner.
Of all the meals I had in Paris, La Jacobine was my absolute favorite. Everything here was incredible - if you're nervous but curious about Escargot - this would be the place to get it. The foie gras mill fuelle was heavenly. Both duck plates were incredible, we couldn't pick a favorite. Their cheesecake was also divine. They are a very popular place so I recommend going for lunch (like we did) or trying to make a reservation for dinner. We tried to come a second time for dinner on a whim, arrived around 7:30, and they didn't have anything open until 9. If we didn't have a kiddo with us we gladly would have waited - they are worth it.
Service was amazing and friendly! Food was great as well. Various vegetarian options are available. This was my partner's first time trying escargot and it was prepared well. The French onion soup and Truffle Ravioli was superb. The desert dishes had an amazing presentation, which was greatly appreciated. The interior was small and lively.
I have been eying out La Jacobine to have Coq au vin. It's one of the dishes I wanted to make sure to try while in Paris. Knowing they open at 7pm. I left early so I could arrive around opening to dine early. The Metro had different plans for me. One leg of the Metro confused me. It confused me earlier in the day but I figured it wouldn't be that bad this time. Oh...it was and when I got to La Jacoline, I was told the wait time was till 10pm. Super disappointed but I have no back up plans and other good restaurants would be busy as well so I decided to wait it out. While waiting, I noticed they have 4 chairs right outside for customers to sit on. Fortunately I got one early and didn't have to pop the Asian squat. The restaurant is bright and cozy with a family atmosphere. I didn't want to be rude so I didn't ask if I could buy something to drink while I wait. My boredom got the better of me so I asked. They said it's fine! Yay! Something to do while waiting. So many people walked by the restaurant while waiting. I got to talk to some diners waiting to help kill some time which was nice. Alex was amazing because he squeezed me in and I got in around 9pm vs the original 10pm I was quoted. He provided exceptional customer service all night. When I got in, I knew my order. I ordered their Mille-Feuille De Foie Gras as an Entrees and the Coq Au Vin as my Plats. My drink was a bottle of bubbles. It was a nice paced meal to enjoy the food and conversation. Since I was alone, I made friends with the couple next to me. Small world, the female was from HI and also attended Kalani High. The food was amazing! Totally worth the wait and everything. I do highly recommend people to make reservations though.
Almost everyone we know said we had to visit La Jacobine while we were in Paris. So the morning when we were done with Musée d'Orsay and it was still early for lunch, we decided to walk over to the restaurant and see if we could get in without a reservation. Probably due to it being a weekday in October, there were only 2 small parties ahead of us in the line when we arrive around 1145 before they open at noon. We didn't have any problem getting in but the small restaurant filled up very quickly. I ordered the foie gras and duck confit. The foie gras was very good but I had the best duck confit I had ever had. The skin was crisp and the meat was tender. Every bite ignited all my taste buds even though they were partially numbed from the absinthe I had had as an aperitif. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful as well. He spoke Spanish to a visiting couple seated next to us. Because of that, "gracias" slipped out from me a few times inadvertently when I meant to say "merci". Lunch was so good that we didn't want to go out for dinner to cancel out lunch. We got a baguettes and more butter on the way back to our apartment at dinner time.
If you can get a reservation this is a must visit.Best onion soup in paris. So much flavor in all their dishes it's Michelin level with out the price. Had the lamb shank snails, onion soup,and chicken everything was amazing and the staff is so friendly.
This is in a super cute area; the restaurant is in a covered alley way with little shops and many other cute restaurants with patio seating. Service was excellent, and the waiter was very kind to non-French speaking patrons. We came in around 3:30 without a reservation and got seated within 5-10 min. I will start this review by saying I am not an expert on French food but based on the reviews we were excited to try escargot (for the first time!), coq au vin, and duck confit. All were excellent. I would say the escargot had the texture of mushrooms and was nicely flavored in a butter sauce and herbs and was pretty good. The waiter was kind enough to show us how to use the snail tongs and little fork! We also got the French onion soup was flavorful and I would certainly get it again. The duck confit which I've also never had before reminded me of Chinese duck but with different spices. It was cooked well and was great. The coq au vin was also good, very rich and tasted strongly of red wine, which is probably exactly what it's supposed to taste like, but it was just not my personal favorite. We finished off the lunch with a pot of tea, tarte tartin (a wonderful apple dessert) that melted in your mouth and served with a tart cream. Overall it was a great experience. We spent almost two hours here and loved the service, food, and atmosphere.
Service is super friendly. This place is very popular with tourists. Food was delicious, especially the French Onion Soup (which was a very generous portion!) and the Raspberry Macaron. We were stuffed, but the dessert was so light and the perfect way to finish the meal.
Lovely restaurant with meat forward / decadent saucy plates. From my experience eating French food thus far this place has large servings and more comforting styles food. I love the plats - most notably the wine beef stew and duck tajine with almonds and sweet creamy sauce. The lamb shank and duck fillets were also great. For the entrées, the foie gras and goat cheese salad were très bien! Dessert - tiramisu was alright since it was late night when we ordered and they made it just earlier so the cake have not soaked the coffee and rum. Cheesecake was good though. La Jacobine is in a small alleyway with a lot of other restaurants and bars and got lively in the evening. We had a reservation but had to wait another 30 mins to get in. The woman who served us was cheerful and attentive, which is rare to come by in Paris.
One of my favorite Bistros in Paris!!! If you're looking for a classic Parisian meal, look no further! They do all the french favorites perfectly!! And the staff, Alex & Antwon were absolutely amazing!! They were very warm and welcoming!
I'll start off simple it's a 10/10 it lives up to the hype. This was the best meal I had in Paris hands down. The food taste so fresh, not overly salty, and the portions are perfect. We had the duck gizzard salad and I'm not usually a huge fan of gizzard, but this was just amazing the pairing of the salty duck with the acidic tomato combined for the perfect salad I didn't know I needed. The duck with date sauce was something I've never thought of trying, but again to my surprise it was delicious. If you don't necessarily like mixing sweet with savory this dish isn't for you I however really enjoyed this. The pork cullet was my favorite dish it was tender and flavor packed and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. It was salty with a slight tanginess. I would 100 percent recommend this place to anyone visiting Paris unless you don't have a reservation and are in a rush we came with no reservation and it was an hour and a half wait which is valid. This was completely our fault make those reservations and try this restaurant you won't regret it!!!!
I stopped by at 10am and saw them getting ready for service at 12. I went to go grab my chocolate gifts and some starbucks(left the starbies at monoprix, sad lol). Anyways, I came back at 11:30, was first in line for opening, by the time they opened, the line was long enough to fill the restaurant. The food genuinely was good. Worth a 30 minute wait probably. But there are other restraints serving similar food next door to the right and front of the restaurant if you can't wait. If you're in the area, you can stop by and make a reservation for the next day or later in the day. Or call by phone (photo of their info card attached). It's pretty small inside, but super cozy and warm. Amazing server. Dude even remembered my name (Kim) lol. And he told me to order dessert and the chocolate after the meal, I'm a dessert first type of girl because I love sugar, but good call, because after the French onion soup, the appetizer/starter, I was already feeling full. After the salmon, I was ready to take free my belly from my pants because it was a great portion! Perfect size portion for my future man though, prob could even finish my left overs. Didn't stop me from getting chocolat viennois. Delicious by the way. The chocolate was so rich and delicious. Tl;dr - Food is good, service is amazing. Also I love baguette and bread, and they offer unlimited baguette on the house.
One of the best meals and dining experiences in Paris. My friend and I had dinner here our first night in Paris and I'm so happy I randomly came across it on google maps. We ordered: escargot, duck confit, and lamb shank The duck confit was so so good, perfectly cooked, and great flavors. I would've liked to see more veggies bc I ran out of veggies to eat with my delicious duck. The lamb shank had an amazing sauce that I kept eating the duck with the sauce. It was sweet and savory, and just lovely. The service was impeccable. The server knew several languages and gave positive vibes. I'll definitely come back here the next time I have a chance to be back in Paris. read more

We were only in Paris for a couple of days and had several disappointing meals. Le Jacobine was our last dinner before flying home and it completely redeemed our Paris dining experience. The restaurant itself is quite small and cozy and the wait can be long. We had eaten lunch around the corner a few days prior and my husband had popped over to see if he could get a reservation for Friday night. It turned out that you can't make a reservation by phone or online so an in person reservation was actually the only way. We got lucky with that! We arrived a little early for our 7:30 reservation and were seated right away. Our table was by the window so we had a good view of the people on the waitlist throughout dinner! Our waiter was very nice and incredibly helpful when I was trying to decide between dishes. We ordered the onion soup, truffle ravioli, pork filet and duck confit. My husband is an onion soup lover and said this was the best one he had ever had. All four dishes were truly perfection. Just delicious comfort food. For dessert we had the raspberry pistachio tart and the nutella tiramisu. The tart wasn't my fave but my husband loved it. At the end of dinner he said, "I'm not wearing socks, but if I was this meal would have knocked them off!" It really was so so good. If we had more time in Paris we probably would have gone back a second time. read more
Lovely French Onion Soup. Wonderfully cheesy and tasty. Served relatively quickly too. Coq Au Vin also pretty nice though I might add a bit salt. Fall off the bone tender chicken. Various combo pricing knocks off a few EUR if you order an appetizer and main plate and if you add a dessert which I didn't get to. Great service. English menu. read more
This little French restaurant was so welcoming and the food was delicious! Every dish gave you this heart warm feeling and it was all delicious!! The service was impeccable- the servers were attentive but not overwhelming and was just perfect balance of casual and friendly. I can't rave enough and you can see why so many visitors come multiple times during their stay in Paris. Their onion soup is perfectly cheesy, not overwhelmingly salty and has a great deep broth. Escargot was big and you really need to use the tools to get the little suckers out! The fun part of eating escargot! I love the neighborhood this restaurant is located- it's fun to explore the area after dinner and take a long walk! read more

Best service! Best food! Very reasonable prices! The reviews are 100% spot on. Food melts in your mouth & is seasoned well (French food often lacks seasoning imo). Some of the best onion soup we've tried (& we tried a bunch). Coq Au Vin was mouth watering & so tender. Dessert = anything you could want! *There is a waitlist for reservations fyi. So get there by 730 to put name on list. read more

Physically have to go there to get a reservation for next day or two because they are always booked solid, but it's all worth it. The food is so good, French onion soup, escargot, foie gras, duck confit and pork tenderloin are all top notch. And the hot chocolate, it'll make you forget Angelina. It's a small cozy place but the two gentlemen runs it very smoothly. read more

Snagged a table last minute (the very last table) after returning from Versailles. Busy but cute atmosphere. Server was kind and helpful. Soup was ok. Enjoyed the snails and both ducks. The vegetables were also good. Place was a little difficult to find because it is on an alley, foot traffic only. Not sure I would go out of my way for it, seemed pretty standard but we liked the vibe and the food. Wouldn't hesitate to return and the two course prix fixe was a nice change from our pricier meals. read more

One of the best spots in Paris! Our server Alex was the best and made our meal eventful and unforgettable! The French onion soup was the best we've had so far in Paris and the duck in mushroom sauce was so heavenly I used the baguette to soak up the sauce or else I would of licked the plate! The lamb shanks was unbelievable and the whole meal was so wonderful and affordable we booked our next reservation here a few days later. This is a must try while you are in Paris! read more

My sister found La Jacobine on a walk when she was in Paris. She loved it so much, she went two nights in a row! When my mom and I were headed to Paris, she told us we just had to go!! We tried to go one night but the wait was too long. We ended up trying again the next day. The wait was about 30 minutes long. We were told that there is always a line because the food is so good! We had a great lunch and we're excited to visit such a well loved spot. read more

We got the French onion soup, duck, and the beef stew. All of it was incredible! Friendly service. Get a res if you can - or go a bit before you're aiming to eat, put your name down, and grab a drink in the meantime. Tucked away in a tiny alley that is full of rich history and delicious dishes, La Jacobine provides a French cuisine that best encapsulates the traditional palate it works hard to preserve. The French onion soup was the best we ever tasted, wonderfully paired with a beef stew that was unlike I have ever had. I went to this restaurant twice during my week long stay in Paris. The first time was for dinner where I dined on the most excellent French Onion soup, pork in mustard sauce and a delightful rhubarb crumble (I love rhubarb!). The service was friendly and efficient and the vibe of the restaurant was cheerful & welcoming. One thing occurred that really touched me; unfortunately I don't know the name of this kind waiter to properly praise him. There happened to be a younger woman on one side of me and a younger gentleman on my other side. Both had ordered the escargot (served in their shells) and both were seeming to try these for the first time and seemed a little baffled on how to use the tongs properly. The waiter, in the middle of a busy service and a line outside the restaurant, patiently guided each of them through the process, and the way he did so, not to embarrass but to help them so gently and unobtrusively just really touched me. They both learned a new skill without any ding to their egos. I don't know why but his sheer kindness made me well up a little bit. I returned a few days later for lunch and enjoyed more of the soup and a fantastic chicken tagline. read more
La Jacobine... your escargot still has my heart. This little restaurant was quite tricky to find. It was tucked away in an alley way that had various stores and restaurants. While we did get lost initially, we finally found the restaurant only to realized that the wait seemed endless. But with minor chats with folks outside, they deemed its worth the wait. Sure enough, it was. Their French Onion Soup, or soup rather, was remarkable. I had this dish at other establishments in Paris, which was also good, but something about this one taste just right. It was well balanced with all the ingredients, a hard feat to conquer in the culinary world. A lot of chefs tend to be forgetful about this and it comes across when you take the first few bites. Loved this dish. Another home run is the escargot. That sauce... memories form upon the initial smell of this aromatic dish. My friend ordered the duck and said it was on point and tender. I ordered the beef stew which was also rendered well between the sauce and accompanied veggies. Overall, the atmosphere, dining experience, and service was second to non. I would recommend this place to locals and fellow travelers alike. read more

A cute little restaurant my boyfriend had recommended because of their French onion soup. We went on a Sunday night after checking out the Eiffel Tower. We had to wait an hour which was totally fine with my boyfriend and I because we were able to walk around and check out the popular streets of Saint Germain. Came back and our waiter was the absolute sweetest! Very kind and attentive. He was able to answer any of our questions. We ordered escargot, French onion soup, duck foi gras, and duck breast with a mushroom cream sauce. Overall, the food was amazing and the staff was awesome. Will be returning hopefully soon! read more

Our first meal in Paris was at La Jacobine, Paris best kept secret. Located inside a walking alley, in the heart of Paris, close to so many other things (note this) Staffs were incredibly nice and gentle. We did not make a reservation for lunch but our wait was not bad at all. There wasn't any system but a notepad that the server would jot your name down. Our server was GOOD, he's missing nobody so don't worry. During our wait, we walked around the area to explore different stores and the neighborhood. We walked to Jardin du Luxembourg ()and walked back and still made it in time. Food was AMAZING. Get the onion soup, this place is famous for it. Foie gras here is one of the best we've had, perfectly balanced between the elements, flavors and textures. We love the duck confit here, incredibly flavorful. The skin was still sizzling when it was brought out to us. Duck fillet, or duck breast in mushroom sauce is also delightful. Get it medium rare like your steak, it's okay, life is too short to eat rubber. read more

We made reservations for 10/10/2019 at 7:00 via TheFork.com. We arrived at 6:45 that day and were told we did not have reservations there and they did not do business with TheFork.com. They were very adamant about it so I felt they were telling the truth. We were put on a tentative wait list for 8:00ish that same evening. Thankfully we did eventually get a table and it was worth every bit of inconvenience. I ordered the foie gras and the duck with mushroom sauce. My husband had the onion soup and the pork in mustard sauce. I cannot stop thinking of the foie gras; it was one of the most interesting flavor combinations. Our waiter was so nice and I really enjoyed our time here once we got a table. When I arrived back in the states I emailed TheFork.com to inquire about the issues we had. I received an immediate response, which I very much appreciated. They said that they would be reaching out to La Jacobines to see what happened. I'm not sure what to believe. I'm just telling this story to prevent anyone else missing out on this food experience. read more
A quest for French onion soup put La Jacobine on our map for our first dinner in Paris. We went with the entree (appetizer) and a plat (main course). The French onion soup definitely fulfilled my French onion soup dreams, rich flavorful broth with soft onions, baguette and generous cheese melted in. The boyfriend got the eggplant gratin, layers of eggplant and melted cheese. Perfect to dip the crusty baguette that the dinner came with. The baguette was so crunchy we could hear them cutting it! The Main courses of beef stew and duck with mushroom sauce were rich, hearty and all perfectly seasoned. The duck was especially memorable and we were eating up every last bite. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time as they are a small shop and completely full soon during dinner time of 7/8pm. read more
Dined on Aug 21, 2019. Found this little gem walking around Saint Germain des Pres bear my hotel. Despite a clientele largely composed of tourists, I found the food to be fairly authentic and fairly priced. The menu is traditional French. Coq au Vin was very tender, with meat dislodging at the gentlest prodding. It's very flavorful. The portion is just about right. I washed it down with some vin blanc. The meal was overall satisfying. Amazing spot for French food. This was my favorite meal when I went to Europe. I started with the foie gras, which came with two large patties and a cookie in the middle. I was a little thrown of by the plating but it was delicious. Constructing the perfect bite with the rich foie gras, sweet jam, crunch of the cookie, and tartness of the vinaigrette was fantastic. For the entree I had the coq au vin, which was flavorful and hearty. The meat fell of the bone and the sauce had a depth of flavor. I was way too full after this but still got tiramisu for dessert, and wow it was so good. Very rich and creamy. I had to wait about half an hour for a table but the meal felt worth it to me. I think the prices are great considering the portion sizes and quality of food; I think it's closer to 2 dollar signs than 3. There were mostly tourists here but the food was great. The servers were polite and the food came out relatively quickly. I can't wait to come back. read more

On a solo trip to Paris and was recommended La Jacobine by a friend. LOVED every minute of it. I went on a Friday afternoon for lunch and it was busy (always a great sign) but I got a table right away. The food was delicious and staff was warm & welcoming. Loved the music selection and atmosphere. I had the escargot & french onion soup (both divine) but might sneak back in to try to coq au vin before I leave (seemed to be a fan favorite amongst the patrons). All that aside, this is in the popular Saint-Germain neighborhood on a beautifully authentic street. You should absolutely visit for the food but I can guarantee you'll stick around for the ambiance! read more
The duck tajine was some of the most tender duck I have ever had. I highly recommend people who don't like duck, which previously included me, to try this dish. Had delicious smoked salmon and the raspberry macaron for dessert! Plate cleaned in minutes. On a cute side street and a very welcoming restaurant environment. read more

The best meal I had in Paris! And the best service I had in Paris. I appreciated the range of dishes to choose from - from braised meats to wonderful salads. Flavor bomb in every bite! Delicious wine and bread as well. read more
La Jacobine est fantastique! But you'll want a reservation. Call ahead or the wait can be over an hour. We had the duck breast with mushrooms sauce and the duck tajine at our table - both were phenomenal. I had the "Magret Canard" (duck breast) and ordered it cooked medium. I had no regrets. For dessert we had the Mille Feuille and the Crumble aux pommes et rhubarbs. Both were delicious in their own way AND the server put a candle in my friend's dessert and sang happy birthday with the whole restaurant. Le Mille Feuille is sweet without being overwhelming. It's light and delicious, but a huge serving. The crumble is a wonderful fall/winter dessert; heavy and full of cinnamon. The dessert table is right by the door, so make sure to take a look! Both of us said "we should come back..." at the end of the meal. Absolutely amazing restaurant and I can see why people wait for over an hour outside for a table. read more
