Notoriously hard to find, old equipment and a very odd front desk attendant makes this place a no go for me

Life Time La Jolla is a nice gym overall. It's clean, well maintained, and has good equipment, but…read moreout of all the Life Time locations I've been to, this one feels the least like a Life Time. One of the biggest reasons I'm willing to pay a premium for Life Time is that most locations feel like more than just a gym. There's usually a luxury/resort-type atmosphere and amenities that separate it from a typical fitness club. Unfortunately, the La Jolla location really doesn't have that feeling. It honestly feels more like a cleaner, nicer version of a 24 Hour Fitness than a true premium Life Time facility. That wouldn't necessarily be a problem at a lower price point, but considering what Life Time charges per month, I think it's a major weakness. For that kind of membership cost, the facility should offer something that makes it feel noticeably more premium.o Adding a basketball court would make a huge difference, and a proper pool area would be even better. Either one would give members more amenities and help justify the premium monthly price. It's definitely not a bad gym -- it's actually a nice gym -- but compared to other Life Time locations, it's missing the amenities and luxury feel that make the brand worth paying extra for

There are lots of hand towels and separate towels to just wipe down the machines. There's plenty of free weights, but I didn't have a chance to take photos of that area. This gym can accommodate someone that is looking to just do some cardio and light weights, or even the biggest of muscle men. I just walked over from the hotel I was staying at, but I did see plenty of side street parking. The gym is located INSIDE an older brick building and there is a Bank Of America sign on it. Since my group and I were guests for a few days, the front desk had to check us in and they did so efficiently and with a smile. Not sure what they charge monthly but as a guest, I appreciated the cleanliness and how nice everyone was, whether working there or working out.

Even at their peak hours they aren't very busy. There's plenty of equipment, and I got my workout done in a very efficient manner. Would definitely come back here if I ever find myself in La Jolla again!

After having enough, I called the place nearest to me I could walk to. I was ultimately introduced to and booked with an exceptional trainer, Katie Kurtz. So glad I connected with her. Katie is so knowledgeable, inspirational and genuine. She pays mind to injuries or "bad days" and pivots workouts on the fly to avoid further injury/issues when needed. She does not just keep going- she checks in regularly throughout our hour sessions to see if she needs to rearrange the next step if needed. She starts the workouts always asking if there are any issues she should be aware of, and if you answer honestly, she goes from there to re-craft the session. She is strong, tough, fierce, attentive, and skillful. Really hard and great workouts- tuned for me! I was surrounded by the other staff at BRF often- good vibes, great personalities, and lots of hard workouts there. Very happy to have called BRF and been set up with Katie in my time of fitness need!

As result, I always leave exhausted and fulfilled regardless of how in shape I am. After spending just a few weeks working out at BRF, my college body has ditched its beer gut, and is ready to take on the beach. In addition, I have seen significant improvements in my both fitness and muscle definition. If you have the means to hire a personal trainer, I highly recommend doing so. Ethan does a great job of tailoring workouts to push his clients to their max. Another suggestion: if you order personal workouts, bring a friend. Nothing gets the competitive juices flowing like watching a friend do more push ups than you!
