    Gorgeous clean room

What a find! We were given tickets to the PGA, on a tight budget, were going to camp, but pretty cold and I found The Shoal! Absolutely perfect. Front desk gave us a 5 star greeting, everything we needed and more coffee, Creamer etc. The room is spacious, immaculately clean, pleasing decor and well appointed. Whe got Iron an iron and Ironing board, microwave, mini fridge , cable tv, more than enough towels, top of the lime lotions, shampoo, e.t.c. towels are white soft and fluffy. The bed is perfect. We have a comfy couch. Plenty of parking for $15. So much to appreciate sorry it's only one night but we will be back.

I was pleasantly surprised at the amazing value and service from the Shoal. The stay was seamless from beginning to end. The staff were very communicative via email, letting me know right away that they could accommodate my request to hold my luggage and even moving it to my room before I got back to check in. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous. They're newly renovated and really take on the blue, calm, beachy, modern vibe. They felt clean and tidy, and they also allowed for a good amount of workspace with a desk and plenty of natural light. I was just a short walk from the beach - this location is amazing. I was right down the street from several restaurant options and felt very safe walking around. This was an amazing experience from beginning to end. Thank you Trisha and team!

So we stayed here the last time we visited La Jolla. We were pleasantly surprised that the rooms have been recently remodeled/updated! Other than that everything was about the same. Great friendly service attendants. Clean spacious room with quality amenities. Great location close to the beach and a nice pool. This quaint spot is walking distance from cafes, bars, shops and the beach. Only about two miles from the Cove area it's really conveniently located. We recommend this spot to Everyone we know is coming to La Jolla!

In La Jolla for a much-delayed wedding, a friend recommended The Shoal as a place to crash. I was really pleased with my stay here as this small little hotel has a lot of personality and a great location. The Shoal is essentially a revamped old motel turned boutique hotel. Like many old motels, the doors open to the outside, no atrium or lobby to walk through. This concept works great for patrons on the go who really just need a place to lay their heads while taking in all the fun that La Jolla has to offer. Only a short two-block walk from the beach, you can definitely hear the surf as you fall asleep. You do have the option to pay for parking and considering the rate is reasonable and parking is always a pain in a beach town, I highly recommend it. The rooms were also great! The bed was comfortable and the room was also bedecked in the welcoming teal/white color-scheme that is featured throughout the hotel. If you are looking for a small hotel with close proximity to the beach and without the hubbub of a large resorts (people everywhere), the Shoal is definitely a good choice.

Stayed here on a Tuesday night and paid around $170. This hotel is lovely. It's about a 5-7 minute walk to the beach from the hotel. Check in was easy and parking was $10. We had no issue with parking, but I could see a weekend night being rough when it comes to finding it. The Shoals parking lot is small and a little tight, but kept clean. The hotel itself is newly renovated. Our room had hard wood floors and a California King bed. I have never stayed in such a clean room. The one downside was the shower. It seemed to leak water when the shower was in use from the glass door. The floor was pretty wet and slick after a shower due to this. Overall, this hotel is well priced and extremely well managed. Late checkout and early checkin are extra $$, but that's pretty typical now.

I would stay at this hotel again. It's nothing fancy but the location is prime. Parking lot is a bit congested but not too difficult to manage. The staff were kind and helpful. The room was clean. Basic amenities. The only issue was our room was under the stairs and it was loud hearing people walk up and down them in the middle of the night. Other than that, clean and simple motel.

I've been visiting the Shoal since 2020 literally the first day lockdown was announced. It's a great space to stay especially if you like a quiet area with places to eat right next door. Windasea beach is down the street and they offer competitor prices! I highly recommend to stay here. They are ready to service you. Not to mention the room was clean, towels ready, shampoo conditioner and body soap is provided. I'm a big clean freak when it comes to bugs so to the other reviewers who mention cockroaches I did not find any in my room during the stay but if you walk at night towards the shops nearby there are bugs outside - but this is the case with any big city. Overall 5 stars! So

Stayed here for almost 2 weeks recently. Great location and highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a good home base to launch from and check out beaches, restaurants and the city of San Diego (whilst not having to deal with staying DT). Room is really nice and clean and recently remodeled. The AC worked pretty nicely (keeping the bathroom closed really improved the AC's ability to cool the room on hot days). The TV was larger than expected and hung nicely on the wall, and came with Direct TV. Wi-Fi was provided and adequate. Sliding bathroom door saves space which is nice, but I did wish that you could lock it for privacy purposes. Bathroom was nice sized. Shower was quite spacious. Parking was included due to my longer stay, but for shorter stays you do have to pay like 10$ a day. (Not too bad). There was always a spot to park in, but sometimes you do get stuck with the tight last one, but what can you do -especially if you are getting back late. Hot tub was decent, pool seemed fine with an outside shower nearby. Oatmeal was available daily, as well as paper plates and plastic silverware (you wouldn't think how clutch this is). Staff was excellent, and always provided towels or help when asked. The trash/ recycling receptacle was conveniently located just outside my room, this was very nice. I noticed more around too so it's never a hassle to throw out garbage and be earth friendly. 5 mins walk to Windansea Beach and 1 min walk to a decent breakfast spot were 2 pros worth mentioning as well.

Weekend stay was very comfortable. Front desk staff are very accommodating and friendly. There's a lobby while you wait if you arrive early. There's a small early check in fee($15). Free coffee in the lobby while you wait... rooms are pleasant. Quiet environment. Pool/Jacuzzi area is clean. Walking distance to the beach. My husband & I will make this place our spot. They offer military/ veteran discount

Review of La Valencia Hotel…read more I purchased a day pass here as someone who works in the hospitality industry and is always curious to experience new properties from a guest perspective--and La Valencia absolutely delivered. I arrived pretty early in the morning (optimistically expecting sunshine), but even with the typical coastal overcast, it didn't take away from the experience at all. In fact, I somehow ended up with the pool almost entirely to myself--in the middle of August, which felt like a hidden luxury. The setting is just beautiful. The views, the calm atmosphere, and the overall sense of escape made it easy to settle in and relax. I spent about five hours there and never felt rushed or overlooked. The staff, especially at the cabana bar, were fantastic--attentive, respectful, and genuinely pleasant to interact with. I ordered food and drinks throughout the day, and everything added to the ease and enjoyment of the experience. The only small downside is parking, which can be a bit tricky--but that's pretty standard for La Jolla. Overall, this was an incredible day experience and absolutely worth it. I'd do it again without hesitation.

Multiple social media searches told me this was the place to stay in La Jolla, so despite the…read moreexpense I decided to book a room for one night, my first night after flying into San Diego. I paid $500 for the room, arrived around 10 pm and had to check out by 11am, quick $500! There was a $45 resort fee, whatever that means. Still would love to know what that was for. Anyways, the bellhop guys were nice they gave me recommendations for where to eat and also helped carry my suitcase up to my room. The bedroom was small, really small and the view was of a back lot with dumpsters and the side of a building. Sure, the room was hip and funky and cool. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small but functional. Listen the room was fine, but for $500...and this was a heavily discounted room because I booked through Hotel Tonight. Anyways, I walked the hotel at night and it was nice because I had the place to myself, the pool is really pretty at night, it's lit up, I recommend walking outside and having a seat on their comfy couches above the pool. In the morning I continued exploring the hotel and when I went to check out the dining room I was receiving unfriendly glances from the hostess or whoever she was. So much so that I stopped and asked if it was okay that I was looking around, to which she replied, "Well are you eating?" I said no and that I was staying here and just wanted to check out the view. I am a pretty average looking chick, was in work out clothes, maybe I didn't fit the high end clientele look and it seemed to bother her. Anyways, the people at the front desk upon check out weren't the friendliest either, seemed annoyed when I asked if they had change for the bellhop. The man at the concierge desk who I believe has a job of making sure everyone in the hotel is happy and having a grand time didn't even acknowledge. me the four or five times I walked past his desk. I felt unwelcome to be honest.

Parking is in a public garage across the street. You pay $25 through an app and use a QR code to enter/exit. The scanner repeatedly failed. We had to get out of the car multiple times on a steep underground incline just to get the gate to open. We kept showing the QR code on our phones and nothing. We tried again and again. This would take 5 minutes every item trying to enter and exit. Finally it would respond. And the people in front of us and behind had the same problem Around 9 PM on a Saturday night (Valentine's Day) the garage gates were closed. The hotel staff should've warned us that parking closes early around here. Several hotel guests were standing outside with us , frustrated and confused. We called and the hotel told us to use an alternate entrance on another street. Once inside there was no way to find your car. You're on a different level having entered in a completely different side and at night. It took 17 minutes walking level to level to find our car. My husband is a Type 1 diabetic, so this stress and exertion became very stressful since his blood sugar started to drop. The microwave in our room also died mid-use, and the hotel had no replacement, which is odd since being familiar with hotel hospitality, they usually have back up coffee maker, microwaves, clocks, etc. We were in the area to visit our kid in college not for VD. We got frozen dinners at pavilions to have meal in our room since restaurants were booked. We had to heat our dinners upstairs in the breakfast area. Breakfast the next morning was awful -- mushy powdered eggs (they melted in your mouth like hot mush), strange bacon, warm milk, and soggy potatoes. Management offered a $17 adjustment, which does not cover the $25 parking fee. This dismissive and insulting given the extent of the all the things that went wrong. The front desk staff Hayley and Josh were friendly and professional. Not worth the price. We won't return.

The hotel has a charming, older vibe, but it's well maintained and fits the beachy, Balinese-inspired theme perfectly. Our room came with an above-average kitchen setup, which made it easy to prep snacks and simple meals during our stay. Free water bottles in the lobby were a nice touch, and the complimentary breakfast (7:30-10:30 a.m.) was way better than your standard hotel spread, fresh, even the bacon was crispy but not over cooked, tasty, and filling. The construction is bothersome but I was never bothered by the sounds. Progress comes with inconveniences so it didn't bother me personally. Here's why I lowered the rating. The elevator is HORRIBLE. Something should be done in the massive renovation and it was completely unreliable. Especially, since there's only one carrying luggage down the stairwells is risky at best. I'm incredibly thankful I did because she responded admitting that she had booked our reservation for the wrong dates. I was shocked. We had booked our room block nearly a year in advance and had confirmed everything multiple times. Because of that mistake, my husband no longer had the suite we had reserved for him and his groomsmen to get ready in. Instead, they were placed in a much smaller room with construction directly outside. The getting-ready photos we had envisioned--and paid for a professional photographer to capture--were completely different because of an error that was not ours. What disappointed me most was the response. Rather than making every effort to fix the situation or offering a comparable solution, it felt like we were simply told, "This is what you get." As a bride, that was heartbreaking. On the morning of my wedding, I also had to spend time dealing with hotel issues instead of simply enjoying one of the most important days of my life. No bride should have to experience that. To make matters worse, after our stay my husband paid for one of our rooms, yet another charge for that same room was later processed, leaving us trying to resolve a duplicate charge after our wedding. After returning home, I found other reviews describing similar experiences involving room block mistakes and communication issues. Reading those reviews made me realize our experience may not have been an isolated incident, which was incredibly disappointing. I want to be clear that Wedgewood Weddings was absolutely incredible. Our wedding itself was beautiful, and their staff made our day special. If you're getting married in La Jolla, I highly recommend Wedgewood. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about La Jolla Cove Suites. If you're trusting a hotel with your wedding weekend, I would strongly encourage you to consider staying elsewhere. A wedding weekend is something you'll never get back, and ours was overshadowed by avoidable mistakes and unnecessary stress.
