While I wanted to like the property I got from La Jolla. When I arrived the property had not been cleaned at all and the pool was filled with algae. La Jolla was quick to respond and try and fix the situation. However, the pool had to be shocked and was unusable for half my trip. When it came time to get some money back from La Jolla, they would send random amounts money thru airbnb without any sort of discussion and wouldn't respond until after the 72 protection window thru airbnb. After the window passed they suggested I go thru airbnb in which airbnb said there was nothing that could be done since I was out of the 72 hour window. BEWARE of shady practices like this when you rent from them. If you run into trouble contact airbnb immediately and do not let them use their delay tactics to manipulate the system. read more

We stayed at On the Beach Casa. It's a fine place if you're looking for a basic, no frills, generic house rental. We were disappointed because at $800, $900 per night we were expecting a high-end, luxury house. This is not that. Nothing wrong with rusted bath fixtures, dirt in the windows and screens, musty smell. The furniture is stained from guests over time, the window pull downs fall off and are dirty. I could go on a little more but won't. Basic low/end. Positives, great location, nice neighborhood, steps off the sand and water. I rely on reviews when looking for a place to stay and want others who may have the save level of high standards for a $700-$900 room per night to be aware. read more

We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Ocean Beach Bungalow!! Everything was within walking distance for us and our doggies in the quaint town of Ocean Beach (OB) besides when we ventured out in San Diego (SD) or to play golf. The property gave us a relaxing, serene vacation and we can't wait to book our next visit with La Jolla Vacation Rental again! The bed was super comfy, the bungalow and bathroom was able to fit both my husband and I and our pups comfortably while getting ready for our day and night time outings. Plus the small kitchenette was perfect for those snacks, drinks, leftovers or if we wanted to BBQ out on the beautiful closed patio/property. Having a hot tub right outside our OB Bungalow was an added bonus for after walking around OB, sightseeing around SD or playing golf for a nice soak to unwind was AWESOME. Or we could just relaxing in one of the patio chairs and take in the lovely breeze of the evening while sipping on a libation and making our plans for the next day. Another added bonus was we were able to utilize the doggy washtub after our fur babies played in the ocean at Dog Beach, boy our two doggies were in heaven being on vacay with us here!! We all LOVED our stay here in OB and even met our neighbors that shared the property with us. La Jolla Vacation Rentals made everything easy breezy from making the reservation, putting down the deposit, getting the directions to get there, how to get into the property and the OB Bungalow, making this again a wonderfully, relaxing vacation that we will most definitely will be coming back!! We recently stayed at the Ocean Beach property renting out the top and bottom unit for 4 days and 4 nights. Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to leave a review direct on Airbnb just yesterday because they give you just 2 weeks to do so. Location: could not be beat. Didn't have to drive anywhere the entire time. Deck and view in the upstairs unit were amazing. Restaurants and shopping everywhere. The reason for the 3 star review is due to lack of security and lack of cleanliness. We had issues with the air downstairs and upstairs. The vacation rental management came out once Friday but then had an air conditioning guy sent out. He came Saturday and entered the downstairs unit while my mother was in the shower and brother in law was sleeping which was very disconcerting. He had direct access with our entry codes given by management and this was simply not ok. No one let him in, he let himself in. When he finally made it to the upstairs unit he said it would take awhile to completely fix unit. It was 11 am and he had been there for an hour. After spending a couple grand on a vacation who wants to wait on a repair? Since the air was running again and according to the ac guy he just needed to gauge and likely top of the unit with a bit of freon we asked if he could come back when we checkout on Monday as we were trying to enjoy our time. He said he could come and go without any of us there since he has the codes and we could go ahead and leave. I made it clear that I was not comfortable with that and he agreed to come back Monday. The neighbors also have the gate code which didn't really bother us at it was only the gate but it's worth noting they're not too worried about sharing the code or what that could mean to the guests. Not sure they ever change these codes either. The lack of cleanliness was apparent right away in the upstairs unit, my daughters feet were black from the floor. There was no screen on the patio sliding door, no umbrella or shade on top deck, broken items such as dishwasher basket, window locks etc. Easy fixes, downstairs was updated so maybe they plan to work on upstairs next...? Not sure what would rectify the security issues as it was really the only thing that may prevent us from staying here in the future. Most people have valuables while on vacation and I'm not vetting the people they are sending, just have to assume they have done background checks and such??? Just doesn't sit well with our family... read more

Our vacation rental was absolutely gorgeous. The property was elegant and luxurious with breathtaking views of La Jolla (located on Soledad Mountain Road). My family had a wonderful time at the house. We spent most of the time lounging in the backyard in the swimming pool while utilizing the brand new BBQ grill. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed our time preparing meals in the beautifully designed kitchen which was equipped with stainless steel appliances. I stayed at the Seaview house with my family for a week. The house was great! It was the perfect size for our family of eight adults and seven young children. The house was clean and comfortable. There were plenty of beach and bath towels. The house was in a good location within walking distance of a grocery store and several restaurants (not fast food or chain restaurants). The neighborhood was lively during the day, and surprisingly peaceful each evening. It was also not far from the kids' favorite Mission Beach. There were plenty of paper supplies, cookware, and dishes. We gave the awesome Speed Queen washer a good workout. (I want one!) Though the house was expensive, the cost for the week was relatively reasonably considering its size and location. I would not hesitate to stay there again. I also appreciate Michael at La Jolla Vacation Rentals for working with me and patiently answering all of my questions. If we return to San Diego in the future, I will without question look for a house with La Jolla Vacation Rentals. read more

Worst vacation rental experience we have ever had. "Surfside" was worse than a Motel 6 (in a nice neighborhood) with dirty walls and floors and inadequate amenities and provisions. We arrived with my mother in a walker to find very poor handicap access through the back despite being told it was easy access. The ad showed the house sleeps 10 but there was only accommodation for 8. When we called Michael he said they wouldn't reimburse a night in a hotel but we could buy a blow up bed which they would reimburse. But where are we supposed to find that late at night and our tired east-coast family was already ready for sleep. And how is this our problem when we rented a house that should have accommodated us? There were also no linens for the 9th person on the sofa so we had to pull from other rooms to cover one night. And mold. The house smells strongly of mold and it's visible on windows and a bathroom wall. Walls and ceilings were grungy and paint is peeling (attached some pics). Kitchen had 4 ceramic bowls (for a house that is supposed to accommodate 10) and not even a salt shaker in kitchen. We informed property manager of the missing sleep space, linens, and mold (as well as broken pipe in back yard) and they weren't very responsive, didn't follow up, didn't arrive on time to repair. Michael said his job is only sales and asked me to send him an email with the issues so he could pass them on. Like this is my problem. We only wanted four easy days for a multi-generational family gathering and we are clean and respectful tenants. We carefully read reviews of the property before booking and they are very different from our experience to the point we wonder if they are real. We are still short one bed which they have done nothing to fix. Such a disappointment. read more

Updated Review. I unfortunately had to reduce our review score from 5 to 1 star. Reason: Our e-bikes were stolen from the "secured" garage (and they were cable locked to our bike rack.) From talking with neighbors, this condo complex has been plagued with random break-ins at the garage and inside the complex itself. (LJ VR claimed they've never had issues after 2+ years of VR with the unit we rented). Since this complex is on a very busy street, people from the street (La Jolla homeless seemed minimal compared to other major cities) can easily follow residents in who have the gate code(s). Maintenance person showed me the surveillance of the bike thief on their camera surveillance (need to upgrade - likely followed an owner by walking in? ). LJ VR front desk was of little assistance but kept saying "not our responsibility" (sorry Jose). When I contacted management 2 days later they were not even aware! I was never contacted by the HOA or owner as promised. I'm sorry but this experience (granted could and likely does happen in other 'secured complexes' ) greatly impacted the quality of our stay. Their "Welcome" notebook needs to be updated to remind/caution renters to lock and leave no valuables in autos and bring bikes, etc.. into their unit. Nothing is said there currently. This was one of the most unprofessional property management firms that I have ever worked with... We were placed in a very poorly kept house (ripped sheets, moldy rooms), when we encountered a termite infestation 6 days into our month long trip. We had to basically beg to be moved to another home that was available so that the house could treated. They were almost unwilling to budge and would not refund our money until we threatened to file a complaint with the state of California. Spent a great weekend in Ocean Beach (O.B. as the locals call it)! Sea La-Vie is the perfect location, everything is less than 5 minutes on foot, perfect! The unit was well appointed, coffee pot, washer/dryer and temperature controlled fans. Few glitches at check-in, appreciate the crew answering their cells after hours. The only thing i would suggest to think about is the plane noise. This has no downside on La Jolla Rentals. Would stay here again. read more

Great location and perfect beach condo! Master bedroom and one other (2 single beds) upstairs, queen bedroom down. Master bed was VERY comfortable - something you don't always find in a rental unit. All had access to bath. Kitchen was small but perfect for unit this size. Outdoor patio (no view of beach) with gas fireplace was awesome on the cool evenings. Close to to nice restaurants and main street in Del Mar (walking distance). Covered, secure parking. Entire experience was ideal - nothing bad I could say - except maybe that we couldn't stay longer! read more

La Jolla Vacation Rentals is unprofessional. We rented the property from them in February 2019. From the time we checked in, the property suffered from multiple leaks creating hazardous conditions for our family. Rain water accumulated in multiple places, including over the staircase(!), which caused our three year old son to slip. We notified La Jolla vacation rentals of the leaks and they attempted to rectify the problem by placing a tarp over the skylight and giving us extra towels to soak up the water. The tarp flapped all night keeping our children up. When we informed them the conditions are unsafe, they offered to move us to a hotel for the night which was not a viable solution with two babies and two toddlers already asleep and a refrigerator full of food. Not only did the faulty roof limit our use of the property, the need to call and coordinate with them multiple times took valuable time away from our vacation plans. Therefore, we thought it was only fair to ask for a partial refund. The property manager refused to offer any compensation and refused to take responsibility for the faulty roof. They blamed the leaks on "a record rainfall of 3.5" and said in our lease agreement they weren't responsible for bad weather. Check the weather history during our stay and you will see it was not hurricane conditions or anything close to extreme weather. Be careful from renting a property from them. read more

More than happy with our recent stay at their 'Pacific View' property in Lajolla Shores over the 4th of July holiday. As frequent users of rental properties for vacations, this was the best. The property was exactly as described and had other features (power awnings for example) that were a bonus. But the views and patio's were absolutely amazing. One small problem with the rental was immediately resolved and most importantly was the personal service and immediate responses whether by e mail or phone. The property itself had 3 large bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs and a guest house downstairs, plus large kitchen(s) and multiple dining area's. We were 2 blocks from the ocean and just a few blocks from the center of OB. I especially liked the lovely patio outside our cottage and the fact that the property was surrounded by a gated garden. We rented a small beach cottage (Beach Daze 2) in Ocean Beach from La Jolla Vacation rentals during the week of July 4th. We loved it. It was small but we knew that going in and the price was right. It had everything we needed. Big outdoor sitting area with fireplace so we can make smores. No air conditioning but you don't need it - we were even there during a heat wave. Great yard for the dogs and close to dog beach and restaurants and bars. A very dog friendly town. La Jolla Vacation Rentals was great to work with - communicated with me up to check in and responded quickly anytime I called or emailed them. BUYER BEWARE! They are in the business to make money and not provide any verbal communication. Once they have your deposit and/or money they will only communicate by email. Please read my other posts, I don't have any other negative posts! We are locals and had a last minute need to move out based on some home renovations and unplanned new member to our family:) I reached out to them the day before to see about a week rental based on the timeline my contractor gave me. We signed the contract and moved in the next day. The Blue Topaz property was small but fit our needs at that point. BUT every morning there are delivery trucks or garbage trucks starting at 5a right outside the bedroom window. It would be nice to have some white noise or full disclosure on how noisy the property is. On Monday morning, one day into our rental I spoke with the contractor and he was able to confirm that we would be able to move back in 2 days earlier. I immediately reached out by phone and email to see if La Jolla Vacation Rentals would work with us to leave 2 days early, 4 days away at this point. I asked for mercy based on the fact that we had a newborn and dog.......that we just wanted to be back in our own home. No phone response after repeated calls. I got an email stating, "Unfortunately we cannot adjust the dates as once you have booked we cannot accept any other booking and in fact, we had someone else who wanted your exact dates and turned them down." SERIOUSLY you had someone ask for the same last minute dates?? I find that hard to believe since we booked the evening before we moved in. I was hoping they would meet us in the middle or offer some sort of option. NOTHING! I then emailed them with their contract on putting it back on the market to see if it booked to get out of those 2 days. They said they could do that.........I had to follow up with them when it wasn't back on their website hours later. I'm very disappointed with the lack of professionalism in this company. I would have given five stars, but for one glaring problem--the bathroom was a total joke. So small there wasn't enough room to turn around. We were never given the code to get into our rental. No email, no nothing. We called the after hours number probably 12+ times. No response. We finally drove to the rental and saw no one was in there and could see a care package on the table with our name in it welcoming us. When we called in the morning we found out that the extension it was directing us to that night, the guy had already previously been fired and their phone should not have been transferring us to his number. Which is why no one was responding. TERRIBLE customer service and a great way to start our vacation. Then the woman on the phone tried saying we didn't get code because we hadn't made final payment. 1st of all, wouldn't you have contacted us via email or phone call telling us to pay if that were the case, second of all, you wouldn't have care package ready with our name on it, and 3rd of all we paid in full when we booked it. That was the only mention of that and then she gave us the code right on the phone in the morning. I guess she was trying any excuse to come up with for the terrible customer service? Then the house was terrible. It's called the Ocean Beach Cottage, in Ocean Beach. Trust me when I say it looks NOTHING like the pictures. It was dirty, not sure base boards, doors or any corners of any floors have ever been cleaned, and the floors that had been cleaned were half assed at best. I wore socks the entire time they were so gross. The white leather couch needs to be thrown away it is so disgusting. The shower head flew off the second we turned the shower on. They did come fix that, but still. Then there were 5 of us staying there which they knew and there were 3 bath towels and 3 wash cloths. Thank goodness there were some beach towels. There was only 1 dish towel for doing dishes. Again we had to use a beach towel to do dishes. We rent houses on all of our vacations and we have never had a terrible experience like this one. San Diego is one of our favorite destinations and we will never use LaJolla rentals again. Absolutely awful. read more

We stayed in Ocean Breeze. This was our second annual visit so it was like coming home. While here, we all discussed when next year we would be renting this beautiful property again in 2018. It is clean, a couple blocks from Windansea Beach, and the neighbors were quiet and friendly. The gardener came and was so quiet we didn't even know he had. We just returned from La Jolla where we stayed at the Driftwood townhome. It was perfect for what we needed. Very clean and roomy. The property was two blocks to the beach and walking distance to many restaurants. The beds were very comfortable and the unit was very clean. Wr had originally contacted a this company from a VRBO listing to see if they could lower the price as the service fee seemed very high. We were looking into several home rentals for our vacation at the time, and never intended to request a booking with this property. Accidentally, we signed forms we thought were for another property and accidentally booked this property. We did not realize this until a week before or stay and called to explain the situation. What we were offered was far less than satisfactory. We were told that their hands were tied in this situation because of a document we accidentally signed but never requested in the first place, that their first priority was to the homeowner, not us, the customer now out $650 for a vacation rental they never had any interest in staying in in the first place. When we explained that we would have to go-to Vrbo, Yelp, and our credit card company about this my girlfriend was then told she was extorting them!
