I Tried!!! have eaten here twice. Once was ok, food is a little overpriced but not bad and the atmosphere is good. Second time was carry out but the host at the host stand was rude and didn't even greet or acknowledge us when we arrived to pick up our food. And then today, I thought I would give them one more try, after all they reside right below me and it's very convenient. Ok I don't usually leave reviews but I had to because nobody has reviewed the French fried artichoke heart appetizer... And they were AMAZING. 10/10. It came with four large cut down artichoke hearts deep fried in a lemon butter sauce and capers. They looked like giant chicken legs. Delicious, crispy, tangy and way better than I could have hoped and dreamed. We came because my friend was craving lasagna after our finals. We wanted to try a few things. She got the lasagna and it was very tasty, had a great savory flavor (fennel?) but made with hamburger not sausage. Lots of grease which made it unappealing to look at but she was still very happy with the flavor. We split the 3 pasta plate. The ravioli was good, gnocchi mediocre at best and the third one ( I forget the name but it has peas) was pretty tasty. I got the Primavera pizza because I love artichokes and wouldn't you know they forgot the artichokes on it? We didn't get checked on after our entrées came so I couldn't mention it until food was being boxed... Server brought me some on the side I took home to put on top of the leftovers. I give it a 4 because I will definitely be back for the fried artichoke hearts. The lasagna was great but I don't think I'd order pizza again. The red sauce was fairly plain but I will say all their ingredients tasted fresh. Seems like nobody else on yelp liked the gnocchi either, hopefully they change it or offer something else in the future. We were at a small table up front which barely fit our food including the pizza.. When I went to the bathroom I noticed they had **cans of tomato sauce restaurants use as pizza stands by the kitchen ** which would have given us more room if they had given us one, not sure why they didn't. We had to do a lot of rearranging and we put stuff on the window sill, and a busboy later even gave us a bar stool to put food on. Honestly if we hadn't ordered the appetizer I probably would have left saying "meh, probably won't go back there again" because nothing else was that great. Again, friend's lasagna was very good. But nothing to write home about. Next time we go back for more artichokes I'm gonna try the burrata app I think. Hate to spend $16+ on a pasta dish that might be mediocre. Our server Ronald was super nice and friendly and helped me make some decisions about what to order. He later asked me what an artichoke tasted like I thought that was funny. **my apologies. Cool, modern place, but just not my style. If you are looking for a semi-romantic, pretty laid back date night spot, I could see this fitting that mold. We had a small group here for post Happy Hour food and hang out. We all stuck to pizza (Americana for us at $14) Personally, I'm finding I'm not a huge fan of wood fire-style pizza. This crust is an in-between of a thin and hand tossed crust and comes in the size of a (traditional) medium pie. I would suggest getting two pizzas or an appetizer if you are feeding two people. A nice perk was all toppings tasted fresh-cut. Service was nice, but took awhile. Prices were around your 2 dollar signs ($$) in Yelp terms, but for the overall value, I doubt I would go back. read more

The waiter forgot our pizza and we remained it him, at the end they charged us 2 pizzas by mistake. The atmosphere was pretty good, our waiter was very good, and we really wanted to like it...that said, we ordered the shells & meatballs, and the pizza. We came in for dinner Sunday evening. It was a full house but got lucky getting a small high top. We ordered rosemary fries for starters and lasagna and chicken parm for dinner. The fries came out right away. My chicken parm was out about 25 min later. I figured it may take longer because of how busy it was. When my chicken came out the waitress told us my husbands lasagna would be out next and she'd bring Parmesan cheese with it. We waited and waited and waited I tried to wait to eat with him but after 5 min decided to eat so my chicken wasn't cold. 16 minutes later his lasagna came out. 16 minutes may not seem like long but when you are sitting waiting for. Second meal to come so my husband and I could enjoy dinner together it was an eternity. The waitress brought the lasagna and cheese and saw I wasn't happy I at this point was finished with my meal. The food was good my chicken was definitely the star of the show and the fries where tasty. The lasagna was piping hot and seemed like it may have been microwaved. I'd rate this place a solid 4 if it weren't for the long wait for our second plate. The point of having a nice evening out is to enjoy dinner together. When I walked into this place, I was greeted with stares from the entire restaurant. The manager asked "Can I help you". First red flag; a greeting with a connotation that I'm lost and don't belong in this restaurant lol. First food critique; they no longer make or serve ranch and I assume it's because they think the sauce is beneath them. I had their margarita pizza last year but the food and service has declined. Service is not the best, server forgot drinks but I was informed that she was new. I ended up sending my order back, as did my friend. The woman who I assumed was the manager tried to blame their establishments' bad food on the waitress and that made my blood boil. This place wants to be upscale so badly but doesn't quite hit the mark in terms of food quality, atmosphere or service. Restaurant layout is very awkward and crammed. Tables are small and there is 0 space between you and another table. 2-3 feet. I ordered the Tuscan bianche pizza, if you can even call it pizza. This was the most awkward tasting, bland, confusing yet trashy attempt to appease the pompous crowd the frequents this area. This circular bread with kitchen sink scraps tasted like a defunct pizza that they grabbed from the bottom of a full trash can. The rosemary and garlic was so muted that I could not taste it. The mozzarella did not mesh well with the balsamic, neither did the .... potato. I cannot believe someone thought adding potato to a "pizza" with balsamic and rosemary was a good idea. This made it taste that much more limp and lifeless. Maybe this is up to par with someone from the potato famine era, but not 2022. read more

Went there on a Saturday night around 6. Got a seat right away, but it was pretty full. Decent atmosphere, but pretty loud. Definitely have to lean in to talk. Music is playing loud enough to be annoying, but not so loud that you can really hear it. Whatever. I probably only noticed because reviews talk about the cool ambiance and how it's like a Manhattan restaurant. About 8 beers to choose from. Not a great selection. Overall, the food was ok. Pretty typical menu. Meatball appetizer was good. More like meatloaf balls, but I'd definitely get it again. Good red sauce and ricotta on the side. Got a pizza which was ok. Too much raw flour on the bottom. I guess it probably wasn't raw, but it was caked on the bottom. Very dusty bites. Toppings were pretty good although not evenly distributed. Top was a little burnt on a quarter of it. If it weren't for the floury bottom I would have been happier with it and probably would have just said it was good. The main issue is my pizza entree came out 15 minutes before my wife's chicken parm. The chicken parm was warm and not pipiing hot so it wasn't because they had it in the oven or something. It lacked seasoning for sure. It was ok. Unfortunately, we only had about an hour to eat so we could get to a show and this came out at about the hour mark of being at the restaurant. We quickly scarfed down a couple of bites. Let the server know we were unhappy about the timing and she blamed this on the kitchen, but I don't exactly care who's fault it is. I wish servers understood that they will still get a good tip if things are screwed up and they try to at least make them right. "I'm really sorry, but your other entree is going to take a while longer. Can I buy you a drink?" Or, "do you still want it?" If the timing didn't suck or the waitress told us this could happen or had a manager come apologize or anything I probably wouldn't have left a review at all. Too many restaurants to try in the area to give these guys a second chance. read more

I come here a few times a month and I order the Panzanella salad with blackened salmon and sometimes a pie depending on if I'm there alone. All of their food is fresh, made to order, and totally delish! While slightly inconsistent, they are more than accommodating to make things right. We went for dinner on a cold, rainy night and were glad we opted to do it early because it filled up quickly with those headed to a Red Wings game and a Jerry Seinfeld performance. There are not many tables and a few seats at the bar, but it was a good choice for some serious comfort food to warm up. Our server was super! Very attentive (but not overbearing), friendly and polite. Three of us were dining, so we started with house salads (dressing was delicious and the fact that they left the freshly-grated parmigiano on the table unattended was proof that they had never met us before). We ordered Di Pollo al la Parmigiana (breast of chicken, mozzarella, parmigiano reggiano, oven-baked with béchamel and Bolognese Sauce), Tris Di Pasta (a trio of ravioli, tagliatelle al la Bolognese & gnocchi palmina), and a bowl of penne and meatballs with a Bolognese sauce. The winner was the Tris Di Pasta, each sauce having its own distinct flavor and personality that complemented one another. With the chicken Parmigiana, the seasoning of the chicken and the cheese wasn't able to come through because the sauce overpowered it a bit. The penne and meatballs were a special request because I wanted to try the meatballs and they only offered them as an appetizer. The server happily obliged. The meatballs were a bit bland and disappointing, but the dish served its purpose and warmed me up in the best sort of cold, rainy weather way. I went into La Lanterna with high expectations and came back with a mediocre experience. The service was good and the ambiance of the place is decent. It reminded me of Rondinella. We ordered the La Lanterna which is a sausage and pepper pizza and a pizza with three types of cheese (goat, fresh mozz, and regular mozz) and arugula. The sausage and pepper pizza was the most disappointing. The sausage was bland and didn't have a strong taste at all. I was expecting there would be red hot peppers on the pie but instead I found yellow banana ring peppers. For a restaurant emphasizing freshness and quality, I was expecting better quality toppings. On the second pie, i didn't notice a difference in cheeses. Normally with fresh mozzarella, there are distinct pieces. Either they forgot to put it on the pie, or it was somehow mixed with the other pieces. The crust was tasty and had the right amount of char. Overall the pizza was underwhelming and I would hurry back for an individual pie for $14. The house wine ran $8/glass and prices went up from there. The wine was good but i felt it was a little pricey. There's no tap, but the restaurant does offer some lesser known Italian beers and some italian-themed cocktails including one with vodka and limoncello. A saving grace for them would be the addition of a happy hour. As for now, I'll be satisfying my pizza desires at Jolly Pumpkin. read more

Foxtown Grille by Comerica seems to do that for the same prices, and they offer bread and butter at the table, so it's odd that this place doesn't do the same? Absolutely love this place. I love coming here when I want some good Italian good. The service is always amazing. The food is fresh, and flavorful. I greedy, so I always order pizza and pasta. I usually order the Florentine pizza with prosciutto. The dough is airy, light, but has the right amount of crunch. The pasta (I order an order of Alfredo pasta) is tasty, cheesy, flavorful, and aromatic. I love that you can see into the kitchen and watch the cooks make the great food. read more

We got here around 2:30pm on a Saturday. There was a wait of about 10 minutes, but that's not too bad. We got the arugula salad and I thought it was pretty over dressed. This ended up making the salad very acidic. We also tried the fried artichokes. These were also very acidic. For my meal I got the gnocchi. This was very good. The tomato sauce perfectly balanced the gnocchi that was super soft. I'm not sure if I would just go back for the gnocchi as the other items weren't very good. I can't review the meat dishes as I am vegetarian, but maybe if you tried some of the other dishes you would enjoy this place. read more

Went to La Lanterna for dinner before seeing a show in downtown Detroit. Had to convince the family to try it over Buffalo Wild Wings :-( and thankfully I won the argument. Had heard of how good this place was from others, and also know of the reputation of the Da Eduardo restaurants in GP and Grand Blanc so was glad to have a chance to give it a try. We ordered the daily special of Salmon and Shrimp Fettuccine, which was awesome - creamy and very tasty. Also had a couple of pizzas - regular cheese and the Capricciosa. Both were delicious, with just crispy-enough crusts and tons of flavor. A great place, in a quaint spot. Hopefully starting to convert my kids to really good food! read more

This was a nice little joint that I am glad I visited. Clean and friendly atmosphere that had an welcoming environment. I would not get the calamari again on future trips. The dish was huge, but quickly became soggy and a pile of mesh before getting halfway through it. The seafood spaghetti was very flavorful, however like Bret T. recently reviewed, the clams were soooooo small and it could have used some scallops or fish or mussels. But, I still enjoyed the meal.
