    Pasta Al Pistachio Pesto
    Regina C.

La Locanda has always been a restaurant I pass by and tell myself, "one day." Today was finally the day! I had the opportunity to try out La Laconda for a company dinner and ate really good food. The ambiance in the restaurant gave off warmth and peace which was really appreciated after a work day. Our waiter did a great job delivering our drinks, bread w/ olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and remembering our orders. He was consistently with checking in on how we were doing and would consistently clean our table when dishes were done being used. For food we got: - Escargot: 3.5/5 - The escargot was nice but I felt that it lacked a garlic + acidic taste. It was more so buttery. - Pasta Al Pistachio Pesto: 4/5 - The pesto was really good, loved loved the burrata addition. - L'Ossobuco Con Risotto Alla Milanese: 2.5/5 - Got a small bite from my colleague and it was first time trying it and it ended up not my favorite. - Tiramisu: 4/5 - I've tried multiple tiramisus in the area and liked this one! The whipped cream and cocoa powder balance was really nice. The raspberries were sour though. For drinks: - 2023 Nals Margied Sauvignon Blanc: 3.8/5 - 2023 Farina Soave Classico: 4.5/5 - This ended up being my favorite wine for the night as it was really light and airy. Very easy to drink and paired well with my meal!

I had wanted to try La Locanda, but kept missing it. The space is clean and modern looking, but not sparse or cold. There were 2 tables besides myself, so it was fairly quiet, but I could see how it might get noisier if it were full. The arugula salad was PERFECT. Peppery, lemony, and good salt from the cheese. I also had the pasta with the pistachio pesto and a WHOLE burrata on top! While I found the pasta to be SLIGHTLY overcooked for my taste, the sauce was WONDERFUL! Herbaceous, good seasoning, unctuous. It's also a generous serving. I had 2 glasses of the Primativo wine and it, too, was perfect. Service was friendly and prompt, and they serve slices of bread with a small carafe each of olive oil and a peachy balsamic for dipping. Recommended!

Pretty good meal but outstanding service. This place was situated right next to the hotel I stayed at so it was convenient to have dinner here. Super cute and quaint place. As I said, the service was outstanding. Very friendly server who was knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. The pesto pasta was delicious and I enjoyed that more than the lasagna which was just ok. The tiramisu was very good as well and I would definitely order that again.

La Locanda catered our wedding for us on their back patio! We had an amazing experience. The food was perfect, the service was wonderful, the owner Nicole was very easy to coordinate with. We highly recommend La Locanda for dinner or any special event!

Spaghetti alla limone (front) and spaghetti alla carbonara

Classic, hearty, and beautifully done Italian cuisine. We started the dinner with complimentary warm bread and olive oil/balsamic. As an appetizer, we enjoyed a simple yet refreshing arugula salad, with shaved parm and lemon-olive oil dressing (not pictured). We then each ordered a pasta dish. Good portion sizes, pasta was al dente, and sauces were both silky and creamy. The spaghetti alla limone was bright and creamy, with arugula for peppery flavor, and toasted almonds as a good crunch. The carbonara sauce was authentically rich, silky, and glossy, with plenty of crispy guanciale. The restaurant ambiance was romantic and clean. Servers were attentive and kind, and made sure we didn't have any questions about the menu. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for anyone that's looking for a romantic and classic Italian spot!

My review for this place is mixed. The pastas we ordered were really good, 5 stars, Fettuccine Funghi and Linguine Pescatore. However, the Minestrone soup was bland and boring, 2 stars. Service was fine, a hostess and a server holding down the fort. Good thing it was not a very busy Saturday night. We didn't like the fact that we were first seated in the very back tight corner where people pass to from the restroom, so we asked to be moved which they did. Overall, we'd order the pastas again but would steer clear of the minestrone soup. Complimentary bread was good but served few and in small portions.

My family of 4 made it in for dinner and had a lovely time. Our server was very friendly. He did a great job even though the restaurant was very busy. We were seated outside because we didn't have reservations. They turned the heaters on to keep us warm and it was perfect. Their outdoor dining area was very vibey and comfortable. We got the buratta, minestrone, risotto, butternut squash ravioli, linguini, duck, and finished off our night with the pistachio gelato and tiramisu. My mom liked the linguini. She was pleasantly surprised by the amount of protein in the dish. Here are my sisters thoughts on her food: "The roasted duck was delicious, but I found the orange sauce to be a bit too sweet for my liking. The duck itself was cooked to perfection, juicy tender meat inside and a nice crispy skin on the outside. The dish came with two legs and breast meat with some vegetables on the side. The pistachio gelato was also very good. Perfect flavor, texture, and portion size! I loved the pieces of pistachio in it as well." My dad wasn't a fan of his risotto but we all liked it, so it's a him problem. I got the butternut squash ravioli and it was the tastiest dish out of all of them. I love a good ravioli and they didn't disappoint :) if we were local, we would definitely be back.

The only good thing about this place was the butternut squash ravioli, and it only came with 6 ravioli..... for 26 dollars??? It took them over an hour from when we were sat to get our food. I'm pretty understanding as it was a Saturday night and pretty full, but I feel like over an hour for two pasta dishes and some soup is crazy. We each got a soup, one veal tortellini and one cheese ravioli. Both were extremely salty, I think it was the broth, so I just ate the cheese ravioli out of mine. And even that wasn't great. I got the spaghetti carbonara, and while it was a good serving size of pasta, the pancetta (or whatever meat) was overcooked and tasted like burnt bacon. It had almost a smoky taste? Not a fan. I'm glad other people seem to really like this place, but it was a miss for us.

This will be a very short review. Service, ambiance and food are all 5 star. We ordered the arugula salads, the salmon, and an off menu spaghetti with olive oil and garlic. Every single dish was out of this world delicious! Our waiter was fabulous. We dined outside with our pup and it was just lovely. Eat here!!!

Cesar salad and eggplant with prosciutto
    Carla T.

We arrived before the dinner rush so we got a table without reservations. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. We ordered the eggplant appetizer and the Cesar salad for starters. We both ordered the ravioli with braised meat. The sauce was delicious so we used our bread to sop it up like real Italians. It was just a tad salty. We had still water ($9) and iced tea and my friend got a coffee after the meal.

One of my favorite italian restaurants in slo!! Such a small and cute place downtown, with an even better patio in the back. The pastas are always perfectly cooked and flavorful. My favorite dish (not pictured) is the lasagna, but the you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The cold burrata on the pesto would be such a great dish on a hot summer day!

Ohhh what a difference! The nose doesn't lie. Our wonderful server, Carla, brought us a plate of garlic knots, which were so welcome as we were very hungry! We ordered the appetizer meatballs, which were as fluffy as clouds and so flavorful - served in a beautiful fresh marinara we dipped the garlic knots in. We also shared the Barbabietola salad, which I want to recreate at home but I doubt I could make as delicious a dressing. I always love to try gnocchi when I can and I was over the moon with these - lovely and fluffy and drenched in the same wonderful marinara as the meatballs - smooth and rich with just the right amount of acid - with a thick layer of mozzarella, ooey and chewy at the same time. My husband chose the Cavatelli Alla Norcia, which was as delicious as he'd hoped it would be. As hungry as we were, the portions were very generous, and we wanted to try dessert, so we opted to bring our leftovers to eat later, and ordered the tiramisu. We were surprised and delighted when Carla returned with a little cart and assembled our dessert right in front of us! (I won't give details - spoilers!) Everyone who took care of us was friendly and warm. We didn't feel rushed but the service was efficient and we were fed and done in very little time. The only reason this review isn't a 5 star is based solely on the food and drinks. To start, my whiskey sour was not spirit forward. Too much lemon and simple syrup (sometimes restaurants will skimp on the spirits in order to save money). With that being said, my second cocktail (Vieux Carre) was very balanced and delicious. The other drinks at the table were good. The burrata and bread was flavorful (tart, with the right amount of salt and sweet). The focaccia muffins were delicious but not enough butter brought to the table. I suspect we received one ramekin of butter even though we doubled the order of muffins (4 instead of 2). The crab bisque was good, but again, not great. Lacked any good chucks of crab and was slightly "fishy" tasting (I'm wondering if they added some tilapia). The two salads we ordered (la scala and butter leaf) were good. We ordered three entrees (our friends shared the filet). My pork chop and polenta came on a hot plate, which I love. The chop was flavorful, especially with the bacon braised greens. My wife's dish (Mary's chicken) was good but not spectacular. The filet was disappointing. Not near enough salt or flavor. A good filet should have a slight crust or at least something to make it pop. The sauce it came with did not do the trick. And the potatoes were slightly undercooked. Now, when it came to the desserts, an absolute home run. First, the staff brought out two scoops of gelato (celebrating two 50th bdays at the table) with some fun party candles. The gelato was delicious. My wife had the flourless chocolate cake and it was also delicious. However, the big winner of the night was the Key Lime Curd with toasted meringue. I could spend 30 minutes talking about this. It is exceptional. Literally one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Please give our compliments to the pastry chef. We would return simply to order that dessert again. So overall we liked our experience but definitely agree there are a few things that could really elevate Nate's and make it better.

Once…read moreupon a time, I saw this restaurant be featured on the iconic Check Please, so needless to say the award winning food speaks for itself and I was ready for this experience. I came into Novo with high expectations and my expectations were exceeded. Calamari: Who doesn't want Calamari on the Central Coast, for me it's a must. But can we take a moment to complement the sauces they pair with the calamari. Novo's calamari is paired with a tartar sauce and a sweet chili sauce. Definitely a first experience for me and I was beyond impressed. My taste buds danced because, whoever, is out here making many and flavor pairings for Novo has unlocked a new game mode for me. If you ever are wondering what appetizer to try, this right here is my first recommendation. Blackberry Ginger Cooler: The mocktail was beautiful and also a great pairing. I would love to try their other drinks soon. Matcha Strawberry Trifle: My mom, sisters, and I agreed on this dessert and let me tell you, I'm so glad we did. The matcha trifle had so much goodness to it we spent time trying to guess what flavors were in its profile. Think a berry chantilly from Whole Foods, but with matcha flavor and so fresh! Immediately after finishing my little sister said I had to learn to make this specific dessert and needless to say I don't disagree. It was balanced in sweetness, very light, and a great summer dessert. King Salmon: 2 please! The king salmon comes with Tabbouleh and green beans. This dish was my mom's and she was very pleased. One part of food I enjoy is not just the eating and experience, it's the aspect of reminisce in the flavors, analysis of the cooking, and trying to gauge cooking technique. For this dish, the salmon was perfectly cooked and it is not what we expected in the best way possible. This dish had so many different flavor profiles and wait until you taste the added kick of wasabi. Can I get another round? Korean Short Ribs: When I first saw this on the menu I was struck with asking myself how this dish might taste. It was one of those dishes where I thought, I have had plenty of short rib, I have had kimchi, but I have never seen them on one plate. More than that, I was hesitant as I like kimchi but not my to go to choice, nonetheless, I was drawn to this dish so of course I ordered it. Wow! Was I glad I did. My sister had the same order and we agreed the kimchi had such a nice kick to it. The spare rib was also thinly sliced making this dish easy and yummy. Now don't let that kick of heat scare you, I encourage everyone to try this dish. The rice sort of acts as a contrasting agent to help tone down the flavor and you just have to try it all together. All that said, I think service was awesome, then again SLO is a beautiful heart in California. But seriously we had an awesome waiter who shared with me the history of the restaurant. The story is also on their menu, but Nova's little sister restaurant is Red Luna and the big sister restaurant is Robin's Restaurant in Cambria. So good to know because I can now see how all this deliciousness connects! Big fan of these places and it's great to know they are one family. I don't think I have a favorite sibling of the three, but here's to another 5 stars for the middle child.

Parking is pretty bad especially during peak hours so expect to circle around multiple times or find street parking elsewhere. We ordered: -Bee Stang, Detroit style (5/5): Despite the name the honey wasn't too pronounced - it was mainly the spice. This is a pretty garlicky pizza and the ricotta texture and taste was on point. The thick and crispy crust of the style was also a standout for us. This was my favorite of the 2. - Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza, Neapolitan style (4/5): My bf's favorite pizza of the 2. Love the thin crust and flavor which was distinctly meaty with tomato sauce to cut through. It could have used more toppings for the price and it was also slightly burnt on the edges of some of the crust so we couldn't enjoy it fully. Also the slices weren't evenly cut through but luckily it was easy to split it apart. Overall very enjoyable meal and a nice date night vibe inside. Would definitely come back if we're in the area.

Helpful staff guided us with their patron favs. Started with: 1) meatballs: flavorful & tender (probably added panade). Marinara nicely balanced. Pistachio pesto added a nice nutty accent. Great dish. 2) mixed berry salad: spring salad greens with plump fresh berries. Pinkish berry vinaigrette was nice. Tasted similar to a 1,000 isle type dressing. 3) three pea pizza: buddy doesn't like goat cheese so ordered it on the side. Crust was great, veggies fresh & colorful. It really needs the goat cheese though. Otherwise it lacks dimension. I was able to sprinkle on my pieces. Made a world of difference. 4) bee stang: crust had crisp edges. Middle got a bit soggy from toppings. My NYC buddy loved the ability to fold it in half though. Great overall flavor. The hot honey added just the right amount of tang/tart. Tasted as good as it looked.

I absolutely love this place--does that tell you enough?…read more As someone who is quite particular about Italian-style food, especially with having paternal grandparents from Puglia, Italy, I often feel disappointed by what I find. However, this restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. They don't attempt to be overly authentic, they are! They serve Italian food at its finest in the SLO area, and I greatly appreciate that. I was first introduced to this place by one of my colleagues in our industry. We decided to hold a speaker program here, and it turned out to be a brilliant choice. My second visit was just as enjoyable, and I would highly recommend the following dishes: - Bruschetta - Mozzarella Caprese - Calamari Fritti (a bit spicy) - Insalata Café Roma - Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa, Salsiccia, e Pecorino (this dish resonates with me since orecchiette originated in the region of my family's heritage) - Osso Buco alla Milanese - Scampi Piccata - Salmone Alla Griglia When it comes to dessert, here's what I would recommend: - Caffe Affogato - Spumoni Ice Cream covered in a chocolate shell You may wonder why I chose these. The Caffe Affogato and spumoni are what we, as true Italians, consider authentic. Tiramisu, while delicious, is a non-traditional dessert that was invented much later. Just "think about it and forget about it" ;-) lol, even though it's really good! Tell em Joey sent you. Ha! Ciao!
