    Pasta Al Pistachio Pesto
    Regina C.

La Locanda has always been a restaurant I pass by and tell myself, "one day." Today was finally the day! I had the opportunity to try out La Laconda for a company dinner and ate really good food. The ambiance in the restaurant gave off warmth and peace which was really appreciated after a work day. Our waiter did a great job delivering our drinks, bread w/ olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and remembering our orders. He was consistently with checking in on how we were doing and would consistently clean our table when dishes were done being used. For food we got: - Escargot: 3.5/5 - The escargot was nice but I felt that it lacked a garlic + acidic taste. It was more so buttery. - Pasta Al Pistachio Pesto: 4/5 - The pesto was really good, loved loved the burrata addition. - L'Ossobuco Con Risotto Alla Milanese: 2.5/5 - Got a small bite from my colleague and it was first time trying it and it ended up not my favorite. - Tiramisu: 4/5 - I've tried multiple tiramisus in the area and liked this one! The whipped cream and cocoa powder balance was really nice. The raspberries were sour though. For drinks: - 2023 Nals Margied Sauvignon Blanc: 3.8/5 - 2023 Farina Soave Classico: 4.5/5 - This ended up being my favorite wine for the night as it was really light and airy. Very easy to drink and paired well with my meal!

Had not been to this restaurant in a number of years. We went to the SLO Rep Theater, walked around after then came to this restaurant. Of course, made reservations. It was a good thing as it got pretty crowded. Dillon was our server, nice and friendly. Melissa kept our water glasses filled, removed plates and brought me another glass of Albariño, which was excellent. We were also brought bread, olive oil and balsamic, such a great combination. My husband and I shared a beets salad, wished there were nuts, such as pine or pecan. I had butternut squash ravioli and my husband had shrimp fra diavolo. Both were good. He had leftovers, I did not. We shared Pistachio Gelato, I wished the gelato that you could taste a pistachio flavor. The place was quiet, even though crowded. I have a couple of other Italian restaurants that I like better.

I had wanted to try La Locanda, but kept missing it. The space is clean and modern looking, but not sparse or cold. There were 2 tables besides myself, so it was fairly quiet, but I could see how it might get noisier if it were full. The arugula salad was PERFECT. Peppery, lemony, and good salt from the cheese. I also had the pasta with the pistachio pesto and a WHOLE burrata on top! While I found the pasta to be SLIGHTLY overcooked for my taste, the sauce was WONDERFUL! Herbaceous, good seasoning, unctuous. It's also a generous serving. I had 2 glasses of the Primativo wine and it, too, was perfect. Service was friendly and prompt, and they serve slices of bread with a small carafe each of olive oil and a peachy balsamic for dipping. Recommended!

This may have been the best dinner I've had! It was true Italian, and truly amazing. The service was great, our server knew how to help up pick our dinner and drinks. Overall it was beautiful inside, the patio was cute! I will be back!!

Pretty good meal but outstanding service. This place was situated right next to the hotel I stayed at so it was convenient to have dinner here. Super cute and quaint place. As I said, the service was outstanding. Very friendly server who was knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions. The pesto pasta was delicious and I enjoyed that more than the lasagna which was just ok. The tiramisu was very good as well and I would definitely order that again.

La Locanda catered our wedding for us on their back patio! We had an amazing experience. The food was perfect, the service was wonderful, the owner Nicole was very easy to coordinate with. We highly recommend La Locanda for dinner or any special event!

Spaghetti alla limone (front) and spaghetti alla carbonara

Classic, hearty, and beautifully done Italian cuisine. We started the dinner with complimentary warm bread and olive oil/balsamic. As an appetizer, we enjoyed a simple yet refreshing arugula salad, with shaved parm and lemon-olive oil dressing (not pictured). We then each ordered a pasta dish. Good portion sizes, pasta was al dente, and sauces were both silky and creamy. The spaghetti alla limone was bright and creamy, with arugula for peppery flavor, and toasted almonds as a good crunch. The carbonara sauce was authentically rich, silky, and glossy, with plenty of crispy guanciale. The restaurant ambiance was romantic and clean. Servers were attentive and kind, and made sure we didn't have any questions about the menu. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for anyone that's looking for a romantic and classic Italian spot!

    Minestrone soup

My review for this place is mixed. The pastas we ordered were really good, 5 stars, Fettuccine Funghi and Linguine Pescatore. However, the Minestrone soup was bland and boring, 2 stars. Service was fine, a hostess and a server holding down the fort. Good thing it was not a very busy Saturday night. We didn't like the fact that we were first seated in the very back tight corner where people pass to from the restroom, so we asked to be moved which they did. Overall, we'd order the pastas again but would steer clear of the minestrone soup. Complimentary bread was good but served few and in small portions.

My family of 4 made it in for dinner and had a lovely time. Our server was very friendly. He did a great job even though the restaurant was very busy. We were seated outside because we didn't have reservations. They turned the heaters on to keep us warm and it was perfect. Their outdoor dining area was very vibey and comfortable. We got the buratta, minestrone, risotto, butternut squash ravioli, linguini, duck, and finished off our night with the pistachio gelato and tiramisu. My mom liked the linguini. She was pleasantly surprised by the amount of protein in the dish. Here are my sisters thoughts on her food: "The roasted duck was delicious, but I found the orange sauce to be a bit too sweet for my liking. The duck itself was cooked to perfection, juicy tender meat inside and a nice crispy skin on the outside. The dish came with two legs and breast meat with some vegetables on the side. The pistachio gelato was also very good. Perfect flavor, texture, and portion size! I loved the pieces of pistachio in it as well." My dad wasn't a fan of his risotto but we all liked it, so it's a him problem. I got the butternut squash ravioli and it was the tastiest dish out of all of them. I love a good ravioli and they didn't disappoint :) if we were local, we would definitely be back.

    Ravioli di Zucca
    Kailey P.

The only good thing about this place was the butternut squash ravioli, and it only came with 6 ravioli..... for 26 dollars??? It took them over an hour from when we were sat to get our food. I'm pretty understanding as it was a Saturday night and pretty full, but I feel like over an hour for two pasta dishes and some soup is crazy. We each got a soup, one veal tortellini and one cheese ravioli. Both were extremely salty, I think it was the broth, so I just ate the cheese ravioli out of mine. And even that wasn't great. I got the spaghetti carbonara, and while it was a good serving size of pasta, the pancetta (or whatever meat) was overcooked and tasted like burnt bacon. It had almost a smoky taste? Not a fan. I'm glad other people seem to really like this place, but it was a miss for us.

This will be a very short review. Service, ambiance and food are all 5 star. We ordered the arugula salads, the salmon, and an off menu spaghetti with olive oil and garlic. Every single dish was out of this world delicious! Our waiter was fabulous. We dined outside with our pup and it was just lovely. Eat here!!!

Cesar salad and eggplant with prosciutto
    Carla T.

We arrived before the dinner rush so we got a table without reservations. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. We ordered the eggplant appetizer and the Cesar salad for starters. We both ordered the ravioli with braised meat. The sauce was delicious so we used our bread to sop it up like real Italians. It was just a tad salty. We had still water ($9) and iced tea and my friend got a coffee after the meal.

We chose the Cucina for dinner...they also have the Club next door which is not as formal, has a store of products, and some tables for eating. The Cucina has a bigger menu and tables are covered with white table cloths and linen napkins so a step up ambiance. Our server, Maricella, was very pleasant and friendly and stopped by several times throughout our meal to check on us and see if we needed anything. We started with the Caesar Salad and added Spanish Anchovy. I was not a fan of the dressing unfortunately...found it to be bland and really not like other dressings I've had. The salad itself was fresh with large chunks of romaine lettuce, a sprinkle of both ground and shaved parmesan cheese and a few (just a few!) croutons. The anchovies were tasty, not fishy in the least, but it really was the dressing that turned me off. Wife said it was "ok". I decided on the Linguine Vongole and was surprised at how many whole clams were in my bowl! The pasta is housemade and not a flat linguine or more of a rugged thick spaghetti noodle. It was cooked well and the clams were good although a few were a bit tough. I also think the sauce needs a huge boost of lemon; I had also requested no chili flake be added. Wife had the Ravioli di Zucca, which was butternut squash filled pasta with a sage and parmesan cream sauce. It was good...although I felt it was sweet, she loved it. The sauce was creamy and flavorful and the pasta was soft and filled with a nice squash filling. We ended our dinner with a shared plate of Spumoni, which was like nothing we've had before. Their Spumoni is layered with a white cake-like layer and then the typical ice creams (chocolate, pistachio, and vanilla). There was a light squeeze of the cherry topping and small chocolate chips. It was good...needs much more of the cherry topping! Family had the Nonna's Meatballs and this was fabulous! Their sauce was sooo good and had a great balance of the tomato flavored marinara sauce. Really good and next time I'll stick with something with their marinara sauce. Good meal overall and I want to try Club next time.

Linguine Fra Diavolo -- perfectly al dente, tossed with plump shrimp, scallops, and fresh mussels, everything coated in a velvety tomato-basil marinara sauce. All ratings below are averaged (from me and my bf): salmon bisque // 9.25 // very yummy and unique. my bf didn't think he'd like it -- he usually dislikes seafood -- but it was great!! creamy, clear salmon taste but no unpleasant fishy/ocean taste that a lot of seafood has. i've never had this anywhere else, props to the chef! thai green curry // 8.5 // my bf says it's a 9. it's good but i feel like it was not my fave, it's lowkey your good, standard green curry that you can get at any thai place duck breast (curry) // 8.75 // very delicious and unique, i'd rate the curry, rice, and duck breast as 9/10, the duck breast itself was a 10/10. the curry was creamy, and they were all delicious and fragrant, pairing well together. however, the mushrooms, carrots, and other veggies it came with are too sweet. they seem like they're glazed with a sauce that has too much sugar. the black rice was surprisingly very filling strawberry matcha trifle // 8 // yummy, nothing majorly wrong with it. reminds me of a strawberry matcha latte. matcha whipped cream was a nice, unique touch i haven't really seen elsewhere despite it not sounding difficult to make. i'd order it again but i feel like it's on the sweeter side, so you can't eat too much of it.

Went there based on reviews and in short disappointed. They…read moreseated us near the entrance since we said first available and it was very uncomfortable with people brushing past us going in and out of the restaurant. The server was courteous but too too long to take our order and did not bring our drinks until after the main course arrived and that too we had to remind her why our drinks were not given first. Food was ok. Super expensive and not up to mark. We order RED thai curry which looked green. The spring rolls were nice. The roti that came with the "red" curry chicken was uncooked. Seems like they just buy frozen rotis from Indian store and heat them up? The expensive cocktail (spicy passion fruit margarita) was one of the worst I have had. Too sour and zero passion fruit flavor. All in all, a hyped up expensive place that missed the mark in service and food quality.

I absolutely love this place--does that tell you enough?…read more As someone who is quite particular about Italian-style food, especially with having paternal grandparents from Puglia, Italy, I often feel disappointed by what I find. However, this restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. They don't attempt to be overly authentic, they are! They serve Italian food at its finest in the SLO area, and I greatly appreciate that. I was first introduced to this place by one of my colleagues in our industry. We decided to hold a speaker program here, and it turned out to be a brilliant choice. My second visit was just as enjoyable, and I would highly recommend the following dishes: - Bruschetta - Mozzarella Caprese - Calamari Fritti (a bit spicy) - Insalata Café Roma - Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa, Salsiccia, e Pecorino (this dish resonates with me since orecchiette originated in the region of my family's heritage) - Osso Buco alla Milanese - Scampi Piccata - Salmone Alla Griglia When it comes to dessert, here's what I would recommend: - Caffe Affogato - Spumoni Ice Cream covered in a chocolate shell You may wonder why I chose these. The Caffe Affogato and spumoni are what we, as true Italians, consider authentic. Tiramisu, while delicious, is a non-traditional dessert that was invented much later. Just "think about it and forget about it" ;-) lol, even though it's really good! Tell em Joey sent you. Ha! Ciao!
