    Mushroom Carbonara

Coming to Nate's was the highlight of our trip! Great service and delicious food in a beautifully decorated cottage! We got the lemon malfde, mushroom carbonara, and the chicken. Chicken was the group favorite! The servers were very nice and attentive especially since we had a toddler with us. I would highly recommend coming here! Make a reservation since they get busy quickly but they were able to accommodate us without one.

Came to Nate's on Easter Sunday which offered only a pre-fixe menu. While the menu did feature many of Nate's star dishes, it was also a lot for brunch and I honestly could have forgone dessert which was the least memorable part of the meal in my opinion. For starters, we tried both the crab bisque and the arugula salad. The salad was dressed well and fluffed nicely. The shaved fennel added a nice crunch to the salad and the beets added that nice earthy sweetness. It was a little odd the beets were just two thick slices on the bottom though...not exactly conducive to eating as a salad. As for the crab bisque, it featured a generous amount of crab meat making the soup sweet yet seafood forward. For mains, we tried the breakfast pasta and the lemon mafaldine. The mafaldine honestly blew me away. The lemon was bright with pops of freshness from the mint and the sauce was creamy but not too thick! The breakfast pasta tasted like an upgraded carbonara. The meatiness of the bacon lardon was probably my favorite part of the dish. For dessert, we went with one of each. The strawberry sorbet fit the weather better but the chocolate torte did have that fudgy richness that you just want for the weekend. But, as previously stated, if the pre-fixe menu wasn't required, we probably also could have gone without it. Servicewise, Nate's was impressive. Fountain drinks refills were swapped seamlessly, dishes were described impeccably, and I also loved the little postcard they wrote for our anniversary. Details matter, and Nate's nailed it here.

If you are looking for a unique dining and cocktail bar in San Luis Obispo, Nate's On Marsh is a great option for date night, alumni and fam visit dining or girl's night. Set in a renovated home and decorated in horse/western/Ralph Lauren inspired vibes, it has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend the Lemon Malfalde pasta and frozen cocktail.

Do yourself a favor and visit Nate's on Marsh!! We had the wild arugula salad, calamari, lunch burger, and lemon madalde. Everything was cooked to perfection! You can tell the ingredients were fresh and high quality. The surprising standout for me was the arugula salad. The fresh, quality ingredients really got to shine through. The ambiance is adorable. It's cozy and feels like you're dining inside someone's home. The weather was beautiful out so we opted to dine on the patio. My bf and I were visiting for our anniversary and our server Rick went above and beyond to make it extra special. He was very attentive and personable. We will be back next time we're in SLO!

I visited for the first time with my sister, who was in town, and wanted to treat us to a special dinner. I had recently come into some extra money and was excited to celebrate with a meal at a restaurant I'd been wanting to try after seeing the owner's TikTok content. We arrived as walk-ins on a Saturday night. Before I paid for parking, my sister checked on availability and was told that while tables were fully booked, two seats at the bar would be opening up shortly. Great, I paid for parking and we headed in. When we arrived, we were then told a table might be available in about 10 minutes. After waiting, another host informed us there was actually no table available. I asked if we could still sit at the bar as originally discussed, and was told yes, with about a 10 minute wait. Unfortunately, that 10 minute wait turned into over an hour. During that time, we watched multiple groups get seated at the bar while we remained outside waiting. When we checked in, we were told they were preparing a spot for us and to give them just a minute. Another 20 minutes passed before we were eventually told that the bar was full and there was no table available, and the host wasn't sure what to do. At that point, we told the staff that if there truly wasn't a place for us, we'd understand and would leave. After checking again, they were able to fit us in, although there was only one stool available and they had to find another seat for me. Once seated, we ordered promptly. Our salad arrived, but our pasta took about another hour to come out. We left two separate times to extend our parking across the street and the pasta still wasn't out. The gentlemen working behind the bar were kind and professional throughout the evening, but eventually I had to ask whether our entrees were still coming or if we should simply leave. I completely understand that Saturday nights are busy and that we were walk-ins. The staff were doing their best, and I appreciate their efforts. However, after roughly 2.5 hours of waiting and uncertainty throughout the evening, the overall experience was disappointing, especially given the cost of the meal. What makes this especially frustrating is that the food was absolutely outstanding. The pasta was genuinely one of the best meals I've had in a long time, which makes me wish the service experience had matched the quality of the food. I'm sharing this because I would love to come back and give the restaurant another try. I hope management is aware of how this situation was handled, as I don't think our experience reflected the quality of the restaurant itself.

Veal Osso Buco, this was a special that evening!

Great ambiance with large and small pocketed rooms for all different types of dining experience. Service was just extraordinary and that will happen anywhere in this place, even if you are just in the lounge for a cocktail; again, outstanding service. The food has always been delicious, this visit was no different, only this time I had the opportunity to try one of their specials, Veal Osso Buco and it did not disappoint- JUST DELECTABLE! Start your dinner with a specialty cocktail- I had the VIEUX CARRE (bourbon/cognac hybrid drink that they artfully craft to perfection and serve on a single ice cube- smooth as silk!) This place is a San Luis Obispo institution and you will not want to ever miss a chance to dine here; you will see what I mean!

We enjoyed a terrific dinner at Nate's on Marsh in San Luis Obispo. This was our third time here in the past two years. It was as good as the last two times. Hubby had the Lamb Ragù. He hasn't tried anything else because it was so amazing the first time. I had the Lemon Mafalde with added Prawns. The pasta is house-made and so fresh. Everything was so delicious from the cocktail to the soup to the salad to the entree. Our server, Summer, was delightful and fastidious. We sat at a window table and thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area.

Obsessed. Ask for a seat by the dining room window. Perf for people watching. I had the sauv blanc and chopped la scala salad for lunch. Perfect pairing and delicious! Two people next to me had birthdays and the presentation given them was so chic! My server Ella was so warm and had great recs.

We came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and were so happy with everything! First off, the ambiance is beautiful. It's the perfect date night spot. Thoughtfully decorated with the perfect balance of fanciness and homeyness vibes. Service was pleasant. I didn't get our server's name but she was very kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. For food, we started off with a Cesar salad. It was covered in delicious Parmesan cheese and we couldn't stop eating it! Absolutely addictive and tasty! I ordered the mushroom carbonara which had the perfect amount of creaminess and a nice flavor. My boyfriend got the ribeye dinner which was phenomenal. The steak was perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth good! The fries were light and crispy while the broccolini was full of flavor. Everything was a 10/10! We were too full for dinner but our sweet waitress brought out a birthday gelato for my boyfriend. The gelato was so good and the perfect dessert to end our dinner. We were so happy with our visit and look forward to coming again next time we are in SLO!

If you can snag a reservation for Nate's on Marsh.. don't hesitate! Some locals told us they are close to being Michelin star recognized so it's about to be even busier. Nate's is a super unique restaurant inside of a cottage style home. It has a cowboy ranch / Ralph Lauren type style which was so cool. We scheduled an anniversary dinner here and they made us a little welcome card! To start, we had the rosemary focaccia muffins and the caesar salad. Both were absolutely delicious... the caesar is an absolute must... I didn't want it to end. I got the spicy rigatoni vodka which was also really good. It definitely lives up to the "spicy" and is not for spice sensitive folk. My boyfriend who loves spice even said it was a bit much for him. Overall a really really cool restaurant and an absolute must if you're in the area.

Nate's deserves its Michelin rating. It is really fantastic, and by far the best restaurant in SLO. From the service to the food to the atmosphere, it is top notch.

Ohhh what a difference! The nose doesn't lie. Our wonderful server, Carla, brought us a plate of garlic knots, which were so welcome as we were very hungry! We ordered the appetizer meatballs, which were as fluffy as clouds and so flavorful - served in a beautiful fresh marinara we dipped the garlic knots in. We also shared the Barbabietola salad, which I want to recreate at home but I doubt I could make as delicious a dressing. I always love to try gnocchi when I can and I was over the moon with these - lovely and fluffy and drenched in the same wonderful marinara as the meatballs - smooth and rich with just the right amount of acid - with a thick layer of mozzarella, ooey and chewy at the same time. My husband chose the Cavatelli Alla Norcia, which was as delicious as he'd hoped it would be. As hungry as we were, the portions were very generous, and we wanted to try dessert, so we opted to bring our leftovers to eat later, and ordered the tiramisu. We were surprised and delighted when Carla returned with a little cart and assembled our dessert right in front of us! (I won't give details - spoilers!) Everyone who took care of us was friendly and warm. We didn't feel rushed but the service was efficient and we were fed and done in very little time. I wish we lived in the area because I'd love to try everything on the menu - especially the pizza, as a nearby table ordered one and it looked *beautiful*! They also gave us complementary bread before we received our meal, and a lot of the dishes were unique and plated well. Once…read moreupon a time, I saw this restaurant be featured on the iconic Check Please, so needless to say the award winning food speaks for itself and I was ready for this experience. I came into Novo with high expectations and my expectations were exceeded. Calamari: Who doesn't want Calamari on the Central Coast, for me it's a must. But can we take a moment to complement the sauces they pair with the calamari. Novo's calamari is paired with a tartar sauce and a sweet chili sauce. Definitely a first experience for me and I was beyond impressed. My taste buds danced because, whoever, is out here making many and flavor pairings for Novo has unlocked a new game mode for me. If you ever are wondering what appetizer to try, this right here is my first recommendation. Blackberry Ginger Cooler: The mocktail was beautiful and also a great pairing. I would love to try their other drinks soon. Matcha Strawberry Trifle: My mom, sisters, and I agreed on this dessert and let me tell you, I'm so glad we did. The matcha trifle had so much goodness to it we spent time trying to guess what flavors were in its profile. Think a berry chantilly from Whole Foods, but with matcha flavor and so fresh! Immediately after finishing my little sister said I had to learn to make this specific dessert and needless to say I don't disagree. It was balanced in sweetness, very light, and a great summer dessert. King Salmon: 2 please! The king salmon comes with Tabbouleh and green beans. This dish was my mom's and she was very pleased. One part of food I enjoy is not just the eating and experience, it's the aspect of reminisce in the flavors, analysis of the cooking, and trying to gauge cooking technique. For this dish, the salmon was perfectly cooked and it is not what we expected in the best way possible. This dish had so many different flavor profiles and wait until you taste the added kick of wasabi. Can I get another round? Korean Short Ribs: When I first saw this on the menu I was struck with asking myself how this dish might taste. It was one of those dishes where I thought, I have had plenty of short rib, I have had kimchi, but I have never seen them on one plate. More than that, I was hesitant as I like kimchi but not my to go to choice, nonetheless, I was drawn to this dish so of course I ordered it. Wow! Was I glad I did. My sister had the same order and we agreed the kimchi had such a nice kick to it. The spare rib was also thinly sliced making this dish easy and yummy. Now don't let that kick of heat scare you, I encourage everyone to try this dish. The rice sort of acts as a contrasting agent to help tone down the flavor and you just have to try it all together. All that said, I think service was awesome, then again SLO is a beautiful heart in California. But seriously we had an awesome waiter who shared with me the history of the restaurant. The story is also on their menu, but Nova's little sister restaurant is Red Luna and the big sister restaurant is Robin's Restaurant in Cambria. So good to know because I can now see how all this deliciousness connects! Big fan of these places and it's great to know they are one family. I don't think I have a favorite sibling of the three, but here's to another 5 stars for the middle child.

Ordered this for takeout so it wasn't as crispy and hot as we imagined it would be fresh but still…read moredelicious to enjoy. It is a bit pricey for what you get. Parking is pretty bad especially during peak hours so expect to circle around multiple times or find street parking elsewhere. We ordered: -Bee Stang, Detroit style (5/5): Despite the name the honey wasn't too pronounced - it was mainly the spice. This is a pretty garlicky pizza and the ricotta texture and taste was on point. The thick and crispy crust of the style was also a standout for us. This was my favorite of the 2. - Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza, Neapolitan style (4/5): My bf's favorite pizza of the 2. Love the thin crust and flavor which was distinctly meaty with tomato sauce to cut through. It could have used more toppings for the price and it was also slightly burnt on the edges of some of the crust so we couldn't enjoy it fully. Also the slices weren't evenly cut through but luckily it was easy to split it apart. Overall very enjoyable meal and a nice date night vibe inside. Would definitely come back if we're in the area.

Helpful staff guided us with their patron favs. Started with: 1) meatballs: flavorful & tender (probably added panade). Marinara nicely balanced. Pistachio pesto added a nice nutty accent. Great dish. 2) mixed berry salad: spring salad greens with plump fresh berries. Pinkish berry vinaigrette was nice. Tasted similar to a 1,000 isle type dressing. 3) three pea pizza: buddy doesn't like goat cheese so ordered it on the side. Crust was great, veggies fresh & colorful. It really needs the goat cheese though. Otherwise it lacks dimension. I was able to sprinkle on my pieces. Made a world of difference. 4) bee stang: crust had crisp edges. Middle got a bit soggy from toppings. My NYC buddy loved the ability to fold it in half though. Great overall flavor. The hot honey added just the right amount of tang/tart. Tasted as good as it looked.

I absolutely love this place--does that tell you enough?…read more As someone who is quite particular about Italian-style food, especially with having paternal grandparents from Puglia, Italy, I often feel disappointed by what I find. However, this restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. They don't attempt to be overly authentic, they are! They serve Italian food at its finest in the SLO area, and I greatly appreciate that. I was first introduced to this place by one of my colleagues in our industry. We decided to hold a speaker program here, and it turned out to be a brilliant choice. My second visit was just as enjoyable, and I would highly recommend the following dishes: - Bruschetta - Mozzarella Caprese - Calamari Fritti (a bit spicy) - Insalata Café Roma - Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa, Salsiccia, e Pecorino (this dish resonates with me since orecchiette originated in the region of my family's heritage) - Osso Buco alla Milanese - Scampi Piccata - Salmone Alla Griglia When it comes to dessert, here's what I would recommend: - Caffe Affogato - Spumoni Ice Cream covered in a chocolate shell You may wonder why I chose these. The Caffe Affogato and spumoni are what we, as true Italians, consider authentic. Tiramisu, while delicious, is a non-traditional dessert that was invented much later. Just "think about it and forget about it" ;-) lol, even though it's really good! Tell em Joey sent you. Ha! Ciao!
