Great experience and fantastic food! Staff was attentive. We ordered the Wood-Fired Meatballs, a Caesar salad, and Sausage and Pepperoni with Neapolitan crust. Drinks were a Marg and The Bear. Very nice vibe and definitely recommended!

Ordered this for takeout so it wasn't as crispy and hot as we imagined it would be fresh but still delicious to enjoy. It is a bit pricey for what you get. Parking is pretty bad especially during peak hours so expect to circle around multiple times or find street parking elsewhere. We ordered: -Bee Stang, Detroit style (5/5): Despite the name the honey wasn't too pronounced - it was mainly the spice. This is a pretty garlicky pizza and the ricotta texture and taste was on point. The thick and crispy crust of the style was also a standout for us. This was my favorite of the 2. - Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza, Neapolitan style (4/5): My bf's favorite pizza of the 2. Love the thin crust and flavor which was distinctly meaty with tomato sauce to cut through. It could have used more toppings for the price and it was also slightly burnt on the edges of some of the crust so we couldn't enjoy it fully. Also the slices weren't evenly cut through but luckily it was easy to split it apart. Overall very enjoyable meal and a nice date night vibe inside. Would definitely come back if we're in the area.

Came here for date night on a random Tuesday and the overall experience was pretty... meh. There was no wait for the two of us if we sat at the bar but it took quite some time for waiter to get our order. When we asked questions about the menu, the waiter seemed way too nonchalant and was not helpful at all when we asked questions about the menu. The food itself was decent but not anything special.

I liked Bear & the Wren, and you should definitely make a reservation instead of walking in like I did. The walk-in experience deserves a 3/5 stars but I've upgraded it to a 4 because the food was good and it could've been avoidable with a little bit of planning. My group arrived at 6:40ish and I was quoted 1-1.5 hours (I got the text at 6:45). Their system is linked to Open Table, and when I looked at the link, it said 8:30. We checked back around 8pm and the lady at the front said it would be another half hour, which tells me that they should've quoted me 8:30 to begin with! But then she said that they had a table in their patio with heat warmers available now - which we were fine with. But this leads me to question: if the back patio is not considered part of the regular seating, why on earth would you not mention it at the start?? Open Table absolutely has the capability of differentiating between inside and outside tables and it feels like Bear & the Wren did not use the option to keep track of the two types of seating. That being said, the food was very good, and the heaters served well for this cold night. Although it was December, they were still using the Autumn menu. Our group of 3 shared a Caesar salad, the Brussels sprouts and the cacio e pepe pizza, Neapolitan-style. Caesar salad was excellent (we were tempted in ordering another one) - croutons were perfectly crispy without being too hard. Brussels sprouts were also good with the maple providing sweetness, although I prefer them crispier. Cacio e Pepe was delicious - although my sister, who is very sensitive to spiciness, thought it was spicy (because of the amount of black pepper). Personally, I thought it was perfect, although I could've done with a dip for the crust. I enjoyed the Kalimotxo spritzer. Overall, a very solid restaurant with adequate planning with reservations.

Solid 4.5 stars In town for a comedy show. Luckily my buddy was familiar with SLO & their fine eating establishments. Open airy industrial vibe. Helpful staff guided us with their patron favs. Started with: 1) meatballs: flavorful & tender (probably added panade). Marinara nicely balanced. Pistachio pesto added a nice nutty accent. Great dish. 2) mixed berry salad: spring salad greens with plump fresh berries. Pinkish berry vinaigrette was nice. Tasted similar to a 1,000 isle type dressing. 3) three pea pizza: buddy doesn't like goat cheese so ordered it on the side. Crust was great, veggies fresh & colorful. It really needs the goat cheese though. Otherwise it lacks dimension. I was able to sprinkle on my pieces. Made a world of difference. 4) bee stang: crust had crisp edges. Middle got a bit soggy from toppings. My NYC buddy loved the ability to fold it in half though. Great overall flavor. The hot honey added just the right amount of tang/tart. Tasted as good as it looked.

Tried this restaurant as a recommendation from a friend. Absolutely delicious! We ordered the bee stang Detroit style pizza, Cesar salad, short rib, mac n cheese, and cookie skillet. The only item we did not care for was the mac n cheese. It was only slightly room temp and felt more like a frozen mac n cheese. However, every other item was a hit and we devoured them. Our waitress was very sweet and the ambiance was intimate and cozy. Looking forward to coming back again on our next trip.

As always we walked in and opted to eat outside. Great food, service was fast and friendly. Cute patio with heaters if needed. Highly recommend

The fluffiest pizza I've ever had and it was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was great, and I already can't wait to come back. Bryan was our server and he was awesome, super friendly, funny, and made the experience even more enjoyable. Great food, great vibes, and excellent service! Thank you! -Angie and Claudia!

Amazing pizza. The dough is so good! The Detroit style is deep dish thick pizza. Very fluffy sourdough dough. The ricotta and honey pizza is one of my favorite. Tried the new street taco pizza (seasonal). It legit tasted like a taco on a pizza - great flavor. The ambience in the restaurant is nice. Reservations typically needed - they fill up fast on the weekends.

Tried this spot on a weekend away and it did not disappoint. You can choose Neapolitan or Detroit style pizza. Great selection of salads, appetizers and pizzas. We ordered the ricotta/honey and pear Detroit style pizza, the red leaf salad, Pinot noir and the browning and bananas foster. Everything was delicious, especially the pizza! The salad could use maybe a different dressing (that's my one critique). The vibe is casual and staff was friendly. A must visit

We spent the evening in SLO as a halfway stop on our way to a show in LA and chose Bear & The Wren for dinner based on Yelp reviews. Everything was just ok. We were told there was a wait for tables, which was fine, but there were seats at the bar we were not offered until we asked about them. After that our order came out relatively soon and the salad was fresh and good, which was nice. Our elote pizza was tasty enough but just kind of lukewarm. I had a glass of wine that was fine. Not much follow up on our dishes or drinks so we finished up and left pretty quickly.

Ugh it's been a while since I've fell for a pizza place quite like this. I can't even nitpick anything, I loved it here. We went family style on the pizzas and highly recommend! Please see pics, but we especially loved the Peach and Prosciutto (add hot honey!) and the Sausage and Pepperoni was quite good. The Margherita was great too but beware it gets cold fast, being a thin pizza! Service was super friendly, bathrooms were clean, and it was easy to find this place with some nice parking lots and street parking nearby.

BBQ Chicken [$25, 1.5 stars] -- Chicken tasted off. It was explained that its marinated in Soy Sauce!

I do backflips for Detroit-style pizza. So someone special, Sayeh Z, got me a gift card and I did just that last night, backflips! Cuter than hell place, rustic and industrial, very clean, tasteful. Love the open kitchen. Seating inside, and a cute little patio in the tasty courtyard (Mistura, Mama's Meatballs, ice cream, BBQ, etc). Serving to our every need, Cadence, was fantastic. My gf, mama, and I ordered a feast: app, salad, beer, pizzas. Allow me to elaborate. * Market Salad [$15, 4.5 stars] -- mixed greens with candied pecans and fresh peaches, it was delish. Note: better to share with 2, not 3, for a larger portion. * Meatballs [$15, 4.5 stars] -- really good texture, awesome sauce, topped with pistachio pesto. Loved. * Enegren Hef [$8.50, 5.0 stars] -- best in the business. * Ricotta & Honey Pizza [$24, 4.5 stars] -- Loved the flavor, generous ricotta, best cheese, and crispy crust that only a Detroit-style can offer. * BBQ Chicken [$25, 1.5 stars] -- Chicken tasted off. It was explained that its marinated in Soy Sauce. What? Odd for a BBQ pizza, didn't taste good at all...sent it back. * Sausage & Pepp [$24, 5.0 stars] -- the best and most classic Detroit. Just the right amount of meats, not overly done, perfect execution. Oh yeah, I'll be back.

I was directed by some young men to check out a spot and when I did I realized it was your late night drunk pizza slice joint. Not what I wanted so I left there empty handed too. I was defeated and starving and was considering walking back to my hotel and door dashing junk when all of a sudden, a girl turns the corner of the block I'm standing at with a pizza box in her hands. I said "Yo girl where did you get that pizza from and are they still open!?" She said, "Antonia's and yes!" I told her I tried getting there before but my maps got me lost and she told me it was down by the Barnes and Noble, hidden from the street, which makes sense why I didn't see it on the main drag. So in I go, it's small, it's cute, it looks like people are making magic happen in the back. I am greeted by the owner of the place and I told him I wanted to order some pizza. I definitely came to the right place. They had a personal pizza, exactly what I wanted and so many options! I made small talk with the guy, told him I was from New York and he insisted I come back to let him know what I thought and then told me his pizza is very different from New York Pizza. So this is me coming back to tell you what I thought. You rock and your pizza ROCKS. I had trouble deciding which to get and he guided me. I went with the Margherita despite him telling me it was simple and straightforward. That's exactly what I wanted. He told me to get the SLO crust, which was a house made crust seasoned with herbs and spices, oregano and garlic, he insisted it had the most flavor the one I should go with, so I did. They had SO many crust options and pizza options like: meat lovers, Hawaiian, veggie, greek, mediterranean, bbq chicken and many more. I also ordered sweet potatoe fries which is so wild for me because I never do that but I was on vacation and this place gave me happy good vibes. He said it would be about 20 minutes so I took a walk and when I came back it was ready and like $35. Woof. I thought that was expensive kind of but also I ordered a pizza to myself and fries so I was just really hoping it was worth it. Spoiler alert: it was SO WORTH IT. I got back to my hotel, took the pizza and sweet potato fries and garlic sauce on the side went out onto my balcony and was in absolute vacation heaven. The pizza WAS SO GOOD and SO different. It was unlike any pizza I had ever had before and so not my style but I loved it. The crust was soft but thick and fluffy but also had crunch, the flavors were insane and the fresh basil on top delish. This was a specialty pizza place exactly what I wanted. The sweet potato fries were stupid. Probably the best sweet potatoes fries I have ever had. I am so glad that random girl turned the corner with the pizza box when she did. And this place is OPEN TIL 2 AM. Quality quality place. I hope this guy kills it, everyone go here.

We had our dog with us, and when we stopped in during the afternoon while walking around downtown, the hostess was incredibly pleasant and helpful. She was tall with dark hair and gave us a great recommendation on what time to come back for dinner before things got too busy. We really appreciated how welcoming she was. We came back later that evening and checked in for a table. The hostess working then, who had short brown hair, told us the wait would be about an hour, so we decided to wait. We walked around with our dog and came back to check on our table. When I asked about the wait, she told me in what felt like a very condescending and dismissive tone that we had about 45 minutes left. I mentioned that it had already been about 30 minutes, and she then corrected herself. I completely understand that restaurants get busy and that working a busy dinner shift can be stressful, but there's still a way to communicate with customers without making them feel like an inconvenience. Our table was eventually ready, and we were taken through an alley to the back patio with our dog. Unfortunately, there wasn't much interaction or warmth during that process--no "How is your evening?" or anything that made us feel particularly welcomed. That being said, the food itself was good, and our server was fine. The service was a little slow, but the restaurant was extremely busy, so I think they may simply need additional staff to keep up with the volume. We noticed people who arrived after us were we're going to have a two hour wait. Personally, I wouldn't wait that long. Overall, the food was good and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but the customer service and extremely long wait took away from what was supposed to be a special anniversary evening. I think there is definitely room for improvement in how guests are treated while they're waiting.

We ended up pre-ordering online the night before and we got the Loaded Veg pizza. All they sell are whole 16" pies, which I don't mind since Pizza is my 3rd favorite food (behind sushi and Japanese bbq). I don't usually get veggie pizzas for 2 reasons. First of all, I love meat. Second, vegetables on pizza usually are mushy and don't taste fresh. I got it because my gf is pescatarian so it seemed like a good choice for both of us to share. I've had pizza at several notable places (thinking of Ceres NYC, Pizzeria Sei LA, Quarter Sheets LA, etc.). They brought the pizza box out to me, and I took a glance inside and knew I was about to feast. I didn't want to wait to get back to the hotel so my gf and I just sat in my trunk and ate it. There are very few restaurants where the first bite of food takes my breath away. I sat there in silence and proceeded to finish the whole slice in a matter of seconds while my gf and I just nodded with major satisfaction at one another. The dough was incredible (light, thin, crispy). The sauce and cheese ratio was perfect, not too overpowering, not too much, just the right amount as a base and glue to hold the toppings in place. The toppings (the veg), were fresh, vibrant, flavorful, purposeful. Everything was exploding with flavor, it was so simple, but so incredible. I wanted to run back inside and order another pizza but they were closing and I felt bad. We got a side of vegan ranch, it had fresh herbs and tasted so creamy, thick, and tangy despite being vegan. We demolished that pizza and the only thought I kept having was how much I wanted another one. The store is super cool, great music, cool lighting and vibes. The people are super polite, friendly, and professional. It legit felt like every single person in that place was happy to be there. More importantly, I think they were so passionate and saw their pizza creations as art. I would dream and aspire to have a place like this myself one day. I'm so sad this is so far away from OC (where I'm visiting from) because I genuinely want to eat this every week. I'll just have to drive up lol. Cheers to the team here, incredible work. You made my day. You gave me the opportunity to try the best thin slice pizza of my life thus far.
