#1 fav place in downtown slo. No where compares in a full dining experience like Giuseppe's offers. Love popping in here for lunch!! Service is always top notch!

WOW! The hype is real guys. We came in on a Thursday night and it was about a 30 minute wait for a party of two. We found seats at the bar and had a great time. Bartender Tanner was super attentive and personable. Bar back Isiah was super helpful and cleaned plates out of our way very quickly. We ordered Flatliner martinis and the Flirtini. The Flirtini was just okay, I loved the Flatliner which is a great espresso martini if thats your thing. For food we ordered the Bee Sting pizza with hot honey and the Carbonara pasta and it was seriously so amazing. The pizza was cooked to perfection and the pancetta in the Carbonara was mouthwatering. Seriously- come here and order these things. Complimentary bread and garlic oil. We ordered Tiramisu which was also pretty good. We will be back!

I've been here a year or two ago and loved it. Today was a little disappointing. The food was okay. We had a Caesar salad, pizza, and pasta. The Caesar was pretty good. The pizza was ok, nothing crazy. The pasta was swimming in oil and I would not recommend. The waiter was short with us the whole time. When we said we were full so no dessert, he practically rolled his eyes at us and walked away. He switched receipts and gave us the wrong card back, said nothing when he was notified of the mistake.

The experience the first time was great. We enjoyed the whole dining experience. The food was wonderful and staff were great. This experience was good but slightly different from the first visit. Thanksgiving weekend on a Saturday night and this place was practically full. When we walked in, there were a good amount of people already outside waiting. Checked in with the hostess and was told that it was going to be about an hour and fifteen minutes wait time for a table. Long weekend on and a Saturday, we expected it. It gave us time to walk around and check out the holiday display nearby. It actually wasn't the full amount time we were given. Got a call from the restaurant that a lot of people cancelled or just didn't want to wait so we got pushed up for a table. Checked in and was walked to our table. The same section as before which we didn't mind. Outdoor patio in the back. There were plenty of heat lamps to go around so it was pretty nice and cozy. Our waitress at the beginning was sweet. Friendly and very welcoming. Menu, same as the last visit. I'm not sure if things change seasonally or if it's a permanent staple. Water and bread with the Parmesan dipping sauce was also brought out. We wanted a bottle of wine to accompany our dinner which we did sample some before ordering. The dining experience was quite nice, lovely crowd both inside and outside. Majority inside but a good crowd outside. Then it started, the waitress was friendly which is great but let's just say she can TALK. From the time we sat down to the time we left. There was a table next to us that seemed to be the talk of the town that night. She was there pretty much constantly. When we finally ordered, which we all went with pasta. Started off with an appetizer. -The prosciutto and burrata. It was great, the saltiness of the meat and creamy texture of the cheese. It was a match made in heaven. -I had the same as last time, the pasta de mare. The seafood was excellent and plentiful as well as their pasta. Fruit of the sea in spicy tomatoes broth. -Linguine vongole. Clams garlic lemon and white wine. The linguine and clams were nice but a little salty with the sauce. -Also had the Capesante e Gamberi, prawns scallops Pancetta in a vodka cream sauce with linguine. Quite tasty. -Tortellini Giuseppe, peas onion baby spinach mushroom ricotta and pancetta. It was quite tasty and very rich and filling. The food was great as well as the bottle of wine. We Also had a slice of the carrot cake to finish off the meal. The meal was nice but throughout the whole dining experience, our waitress was literally at the table next to us yapping away. She was sweet, but. From the time we sat down to the time we got up. Well, maybe 10 minutes before we finished as the reason was they were leaving. It seemed like someone she knows or worked there as well. Even to the point of having her phone out and showing something on it to the table. I get you have friends dining here and there but yapping the whole time behind the table you're taking care of, that was a bit extreme. We literally know the whole conversation. Anyways, food was good. Service was good except for the yapping. But overall it was nice night with friends for dinner. Hopefully next visit will be a more pleasant experience.

My friend and I popped in for a quick dinner and we had a blast! We sat on the outdoor back patio which was inviting and so cute, lovely ambiance. We had a sparkling rose and the Riesling which was so good, our server was right on in recommending the Riesling. The bread starter was delicious & then we split the Brussels and the risotto special. The Brussels were insaneee we cleared the plate so quickly! We're glad we shared the risotto because it was a huge portion! Very yummy. We had some mishaps but our server Katya was so amazing and didn't miss a beat in helping us out! She was so funny and nice the entire night, def made our visit super enjoyable. We got to try the lemon cheesecake and that was amazzzing! Would definitely come back!

Happy hour @Giuseppe's is consistently scrumptious and a wonderful value. Service is prompt and top notch, with the bonus of a USA World Cup game being replayed behind the bar. Today, in addition to the bruschetta, we enjoyed the eggplant parmesan and lasagna. Thank you Guiseppes for being the restaurant we regularly return to when we're in town.

Delicious classic Italian with several rotating specials with a twist! The special I tried was a maple syrup and corn version of ravioli. It was extremely sweet and rich (as advertised) but was so so delicious and a really creative dish. Service was perfect and the outside dining area is cute and the lightening makes it feel lively!

Solid downtown Italian food in SLO. They don't take reservations. On the upscale side. Pretty big place with indoor and outdoor seating. Wait staff was excellent. We all enjoyed our food. Soup, pastas and pizza. I think we got lost on the wait list. I started noticing other parties of 4 getting seated before we were. When I asked where we were on the wait list we were seated pretty quickly. Next time I'll hang out closer to the hostess stand when waiting for a table.

Greg gave great service. This time as sat in courtyard and was lovely. Definitely our go to place in SLO for nice ambiance and good food.

Authentically amazing food! The owner is from the same region as my father, and I was so pleasantly surprised to walk in to see Barese focaccia. The pictures on the wall tell a great story and add to the authenticity of this place. The service was perfect. We'll be back tonight for a final dinner with our daughter before dropping her off at college. Super special place for us, now. This restaurant hits every nostalgic nerve! See you tonight!

Came here with a group of 9 for lunch. It was my first time trying to Giuseppe and was sad not to see a chicken Marsala on the menu (my go to meal) Place was full and my sister made reservations that morning for lunch which was nice. Overall, I feel the 4 star rating for Giuseppe is a solid grade. Since no Marsala, I was torn between Nonnas with meatball or just a boring pepperoni pizza. Opted for the pizza. My review of the pizza- 4 stars. Nothing that stood out from having pizza in Italy. But a good choice for kids. My wife had the tortellini Giuseppe and she said it was good. I tried a taste but wasn't impressed with the tomato sauce on it. My brother had the clam chowder and though I didn't try it, I thought the presentation of that in a very big bowl with clam shells in it, looked like a nice presented dish. No comment why he didn't finish it though. My brother in law ordered the Prosciutto sandwich but was disappointed with the way it looked and wasn't cooked like how he's had it before. He didn't eat much of it and shared his displeasure with the waitress who listened and in the end, didn't charge for that dish. My sister had the carbonara and said it was somewhat bland and needed more salt or something Overall, if you are craving for Italian, this is a popular place both here and at Pismo Beach. Service was 5 stars and the place was nice. Just the meals didn't quite hit the 5 star level with us and my family .

    Beet "salad"

I'm married to an Italian, so while my standards aren't that high, they're calibrated. I wanted to love this place, but it felt like someone who visited Italy once and now makes "Italian night" with canned ingredients. The pizza was thin (I like thin pizza) but bland, the pasta was nowhere near al dente, and the Caesar salad came with full romaine leaves like it was trying to impress Gordon Ramsay. Cute effort, but no. For that price, fill my plate, please! Beet salad started strong but ended as a solo beet party. Not enough of a balance to call it a salad. It was a plate of beets with a little arugula and goat cheese. Bread? Solid. Atmosphere? Gorgeous...especially the courtyard. Very "I might be in Tuscany" vibes. Hostesses? Not great at all. I don't like saying that We were quoted 1hr 45min and treated like asking for an update was a personal attack. Another hostess later realized we'd been skipped and seated us right away when we returned. Intentionally? Who knows. Overall: not terrible, but not the rave-worthy experience others make it out to be. I'd rather head to a hole-in-the-wall spot with better flavor and chopped salad. I won't go back by choice.

Wow. Had to stop at Giuseppe's with the family this time. Again amazed at how bit this places is. They brought us back to a quaint room in the back lined with old school posters of famous movies. Ambiance was beautiful with wonderful brick ambiance and nice soft lighting. We had a wonderful server who tended nicely to my family. Gave us good advice on the deserts!!!! How the food. Had an insanely D'lish margarita pizza, wedge salad and side of grandmas meatballs. Even my son had them and loved them!!! This place keeps putting SLO squarely on the map of awesome eats!!! Keep it up!!!

Ask the Community - Giuseppe's Cucina Rustica

Looking for a wine menu. Couldn't find one on the website. Any idea where I can locate one? Yelp offered a 3yr old version.

You should call the restaurant and ask them if they have a wine list you can download.

    So they take reservations?

Giuseppes only takes reservations for parties of 8 or more and only at 4:30 or 5:00! Been a long time customer and they're super accommodating as long as it's early in the evening

    Is there a cork fee?

    yes it's $20

Do you allow dogs on your patio?

    Yes

Hello, is your restaurant dog friendly?

Hi!! I would call first, but.. they do have an outdoor back area. Most restaurants in SLO that have outside seating accommodate our furry loves❤️

    Do they take reservations?

    Nope!

    Is happy hour back yet?

Yes! Monday - Thursday 3:00-5:00 PM

Are dogs allowed with your outdoor seating?

I have seen dogs in the parklet seating areas yes

    Is your patio pet friendly?

Yes! It is, brought my dog there, but on a busy night it could take a little longer just because they're only allowed on the patio

Is a reservation needed for Saturday at 1pm (5 people)?

The best way is always call the restaurant keep in mind that Covid 19 changed restaurant operations. There is plenty options in down town. Thanks and Enjoy pasta

What color of crayons were at your your table?

Ha ha. Well I believe we had a standard crayons eight pack. You may want to bring a 32 or 64 if you are artistically inclined

I plan on bringing my family here, which also includes an infant and toddler. Is this a baby/kid friendly restaurant?

If a restaurant has crayons, I would consider that it is a kids friendly restaurant. They do have a kids menu and you can request small portion from the regular menu too. We went with a kid and a toddler and we had no problem at all. We saw many… Read more

How long of a wait is there usually on Saturday nights?

It can be around 90 minutes but you can nearly always get a bar table in 30 and they serve the menu there

Their Montepulciano by the glass was also excellent. As someone who's dined in Tuscany, tonight's meal took me back to that. Also, what restaurant now a days does this. We started with wine and they served little garlic bread balls as we went over the menu. We selected three appetizers (we had five in the group), the Bruschetta, caprese and the meatballs. The bruschetta came with three pieces, there were two meatballs and about six tomatoes and cheeses made the caprese. They were all delicious, but the meatballs were really good, a great homemade taste. We ordered a variety of mains: the salmon piccata, (nice size serving), baked penne (so good), Ravioli Di Ricotta (very tasty, less ricotta than the penne dish), Tortellacci Ring-shaped pasta filled with braised short ribs, served in ossobuco sauce (my favorite, paired great with the Chianti), and a penne with vodka sauce (my daughter raved about the sauce). For desert we forced ourselves to split up a bomba (Spumoni with chocolate shell) and a crème brûlée. Both were excellent, but we think we should have tried the Tiramisu because the menu said something about prepared table side. Well, I guess we'll have to come back, that and, we did not try the pizza! Well worth it, great meal, very attentive service, and a nice atmosphere with a formal dinner presentation.

All ratings below are averaged (from me and my bf): salmon bisque // 9.25 // very yummy and unique. my bf didn't think he'd like it -- he usually dislikes seafood -- but it was great!! creamy, clear salmon taste but no unpleasant fishy/ocean taste that a lot of seafood has. i've never had this anywhere else, props to the chef! thai green curry // 8.5 // my bf says it's a 9. it's good but i feel like it was not my fave, it's lowkey your good, standard green curry that you can get at any thai place duck breast (curry) // 8.75 // very delicious and unique, i'd rate the curry, rice, and duck breast as 9/10, the duck breast itself was a 10/10. the curry was creamy, and they were all delicious and fragrant, pairing well together. however, the mushrooms, carrots, and other veggies it came with are too sweet. they seem like they're glazed with a sauce that has too much sugar. the black rice was surprisingly very filling strawberry matcha trifle // 8 // yummy, nothing majorly wrong with it. reminds me of a strawberry matcha latte. matcha whipped cream was a nice, unique touch i haven't really seen elsewhere despite it not sounding difficult to make. i'd order it again but i feel like it's on the sweeter side, so you can't eat too much of it.

Perfect weather for wearing a light sweater, enjoying a glass of wine, and having a nice evening with your people. The staff is very attentive and on top of making sure you have what you need. Food: started off with the brussel sprouts and man, those were so so good. Brussel sprouts, goat cheese, pancetta, etc. you get what I'm saying. Flash fried perfectly. We had the salmon bisque and Soup De Novo, which was a vegetable curry soup. These both could have essentially been meals. The salmon bisque was absolutely loaded with salmon. From what I heard about it, it tasted amazing. (I don't eat salmon). The vegetable curry soup was very flavorful and blended smoothly. If you ordered rice on the side, it would have been just like an entire meal. Tikki Masala Chicken - man, that airline chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy and tender, great flavor, no a single thing wrong with it. The rice and vegetables were fantastic, especially the carrots. I don't know why they seemed extra good, but they were. 2 orders of the Ribeye. Once cooked medium and mine, cooked medium rare. Unfortunately, when mine came out, I immediately could tell that it was nowhere near cooked right. It was actually well done. When the waiter came back, I said "I'm sorry to have to do this..." and before I could finish he said "oh yea, that's definitely not medium rare, let me have the kitchen refire that for you". I dislike sending food back, but when you're spending $58 on a ribeye dinner, it HAS to be correct. (Note- the manager remedied the issue quick..came to the table, offered soup, bread, etc, which I had already eaten soup, so he comped 50% off the steak. Nice gesture!) The rest of the vegetables paired with the ribeye were very good. If someone told you the white bean puree was mashed potatoes, most people would believe it. Very creamy and delicious. The Italian salsa verde on top was also very fulfilling. Overall the dinner was very good.

Loved the short ribs (amazing dish), the green goddess salad as well as the Napoli style pizza. The dutch baby was a perfect ending for dinner, i love it when restaurant focus on a central cooking area like a big oven (in this case), so desserts have a similar theme. It feels very authentic.

Helpful staff guided us with their patron favs. Started with: 1) meatballs: flavorful & tender (probably added panade). Marinara nicely balanced. Pistachio pesto added a nice nutty accent. Great dish. 2) mixed berry salad: spring salad greens with plump fresh berries. Pinkish berry vinaigrette was nice. Tasted similar to a 1,000 isle type dressing. 3) three pea pizza: buddy doesn't like goat cheese so ordered it on the side. Crust was great, veggies fresh & colorful. It really needs the goat cheese though. Otherwise it lacks dimension. I was able to sprinkle on my pieces. Made a world of difference. 4) bee stang: crust had crisp edges. Middle got a bit soggy from toppings. My NYC buddy loved the ability to fold it in half though. Great overall flavor. The hot honey added just the right amount of tang/tart. Tasted as good as it looked.

I absolutely love this place--does that tell you enough?…read more As someone who is quite particular about Italian-style food, especially with having paternal grandparents from Puglia, Italy, I often feel disappointed by what I find. However, this restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. They don't attempt to be overly authentic, they are! They serve Italian food at its finest in the SLO area, and I greatly appreciate that. I was first introduced to this place by one of my colleagues in our industry. We decided to hold a speaker program here, and it turned out to be a brilliant choice. My second visit was just as enjoyable, and I would highly recommend the following dishes: - Bruschetta - Mozzarella Caprese - Calamari Fritti (a bit spicy) - Insalata Café Roma - Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa, Salsiccia, e Pecorino (this dish resonates with me since orecchiette originated in the region of my family's heritage) - Osso Buco alla Milanese - Scampi Piccata - Salmone Alla Griglia When it comes to dessert, here's what I would recommend: - Caffe Affogato - Spumoni Ice Cream covered in a chocolate shell You may wonder why I chose these. The Caffe Affogato and spumoni are what we, as true Italians, consider authentic. Tiramisu, while delicious, is a non-traditional dessert that was invented much later. Just "think about it and forget about it" ;-) lol, even though it's really good! Tell em Joey sent you. Ha! Ciao!
