Cute little place with great food! Only negative- beer and wine only! Love the complimentary garlic knots. We started with the arancini - shrimp risotto stuffed balls creamy inside crispy outside in a vodka sauce. The meatballs are to die for! Flavorful and light, not dense. The lasagna tasted like your nonna made it. The carbonara was very flavorful although not traditional as it does have cream. The gnocchi was so good. Light pillows of goodness with marina and baked with lots of gooey cheese in a pizza crust bowl. That crust is killer! Light, flakey, almost sweet. The tortellachi was the star! Fresh made pasta stuffed with braised short rib in a deli glacé sauce. Wowza! Great meal!

Came here for Valentine's Day for girls night for a party of 6. We had a reservation made well in advance but were not seated until almost 50 min later. The floor inside was slippery and we all slipped and almost fell when walking in. We got a table in the very back corner so we all had to squeeze in and barely had room to move our chairs back. The waiter was very nice and apologetic for the delay and tried his best to get our food made since they were swamped. We felt bad for him cuz he seemed so flustered but he was very nice. The bathrooms also had no soap at all. Three of us ordered the seafood pasta and the shrimp and mussels and clams had sand in them and my friend's pasta had a rock in it, so they weren't properly cleaned. The complimentary garlic knots were forgotten until the end of dinner, and they were all undercooked. If they weren't so rushed, I think the food would've been properly cooked and prepared. The flavors were good but overall first experience here was not good. Reservations made but delayed seating for almost 50 minutes, sandy seafood in our pasta, and uncooked garlic knots.

I recommend making a reservation for Mama's Meatball on Higuera Street in advance, as it's one of the top three best Italian restaurants in San Luis Obispo and can get quite busy (we saw people being told that they wouldn't be able to sit without a reservation on a Friday night). They start you off with complimentary garlic knots that are delicious and help hold you over before the main course arrives. I loved coming to Mama's Meatball in college, and I'm glad it is still around! If you're both gluten free and lactose intolerant, they are able to accommodate both! I went with the Spaghetti Bolognese ($18) with gluten free noodles (+$5) and custom added goat cheese (+$3). The online menu was outdated by $2 regarding the gluten free upcharge, but I was still so excited that they have GOOD gluten free noodles. Pollo Pesto Lasagna ($23) is a clever creamy twist on both traditional lasagna and pesto pasta. I've never even seen anytime this before. There is a small parking lot in the back, but if that's full there is plenty of street parking available. You can't see the restaurant from the street, as it's in the middle of a mini-piazza at the end of the main street (Highuera) of Downtown SLO. Our server Cosmio was very nice, and I have always felt the hospitality here is great. There's also a small discount if you pay with cash with a very unique interior design. In case you're curious, my personal top 3 favorite Italian restaurants in SLO are: Café Roma, Mama's Meatball, and Giuseppe's Cucina.

I would give a 4.5 because the service was great. We had a pizza and Alfredo with chicken. The pasta was good, didn't blow me away only because I felt like it needed salt but it was good, seemed homemade. The kids said the pizza was delicious. The staff was very friendly and professional. They were very kind to my kids who were loud. I'd come back for that alone!

OMG! That's a meatball!! These were the most delicious meatballs have ever eaten in my entire life! The taste, the texture, etc...was perfect! Our table of 5 all agreed

Ordered the Calamari and Baked Penne to go. Order was ready in about 10 or less minutes. We drove about 7 minutes to our hotel. The calamari was still hot and if you order it to go maybe try taking off the lid so it doesn't get steamed too much. It was still relatively crispy. The Penne was good but we got pretty full on the calamari and figured we could reheat the pasta later. The garlic bites that came with the meal were quite tasty. It was a good meal for a good price

Mama's Meatball was such a win. The chicken parm was so good -- huge portion, easily enough for two, and still crispy and flavorful. The veggies were cooked perfectly, which feels rare these days. We grabbed the calamari too and it was actually crispy (bless), and the eggplant lasagna might be one of the best we've ever had. The linguini was just as good -- super comforting and well-seasoned. Prices were totally reasonable, nothing wild. The inside is super cute and cozy, maybe 15 tables, so it has that little‑gem energy. Definitely try to snag a reservation on OpenTable if you can -- it fills up fast for a reason.

There are no words to express how much I love this place for so many reasons. Everyone is extremely friendly, the owner/manager is so helpful and genuine, the food is all from scratch, it taste amazing, and you literally feel like you are sitting in a nonna's home being cooked for. We love Italian food and found this place because where we usually would go was busy and didn't have openings until way later. I am so glad that happened. This place has my heart. I could go on and on about everything about this place, but I really think everyone should stop by to give it a try. You can dine in or you can order at their take out counter. It's not very big, but I feel like that is what gives it that very special touch of being at your grandma's and waiting for her to bring out the food. Makes sense since it is a family that owns it.

Mama's Meatball managed to accomplish something I didn't think was possible: provide terrible service and terrible food on a completely empty Tuesday night. Let me be clear -- this wasn't a busy Friday rush. This was a slow, quiet evening where there was absolutely no excuse for how neglected we were. Our water glasses sat empty the entire meal, and not once did anyone seem concerned enough to refill them. We weren't checked on. We weren't acknowledged. We were just... there. Then came the Mac and cheese with braised short ribs -- or more accurately, a plate of fat masquerading as a meal. Not tender. Not rich. Not edible. Just large, rubbery chunks of pure fat with barely any actual meat. I spent more time performing surgical removal trying to find something worth eating than actually enjoying dinner. In the end, most of it sat untouched because there was simply nothing salvageable. What was almost more insulting was that no one noticed. No one asked how the food was. No one questioned why a nearly full plate was being cleared. No apology. No concern. Nothing. It felt like once the food hit the table, the staff mentally clocked out. There was zero pride in the service and zero accountability for the quality of the food being served. San Luis Obispo is full of restaurants that genuinely care about their guests and the experience they provide. Mama's Meatball, unfortunately, felt like a place going through the motions -- collecting money without delivering even the basics. I won't be back, and I wouldn't recommend anyone waste their time or money finding out the hard way.

I was directed by some young men to check out a spot and when I did I realized it was your late night drunk pizza slice joint. Not what I wanted so I left there empty handed too. I was defeated and starving and was considering walking back to my hotel and door dashing junk when all of a sudden, a girl turns the corner of the block I'm standing at with a pizza box in her hands. I said "Yo girl where did you get that pizza from and are they still open!?" She said, "Antonia's and yes!" I told her I tried getting there before but my maps got me lost and she told me it was down by the Barnes and Noble, hidden from the street, which makes sense why I didn't see it on the main drag. So in I go, it's small, it's cute, it looks like people are making magic happen in the back. I am greeted by the owner of the place and I told him I wanted to order some pizza. I definitely came to the right place. They had a personal pizza, exactly what I wanted and so many options! I made small talk with the guy, told him I was from New York and he insisted I come back to let him know what I thought and then told me his pizza is very different from New York Pizza. So this is me coming back to tell you what I thought. You rock and your pizza ROCKS. I had trouble deciding which to get and he guided me. I went with the Margherita despite him telling me it was simple and straightforward. That's exactly what I wanted. He told me to get the SLO crust, which was a house made crust seasoned with herbs and spices, oregano and garlic, he insisted it had the most flavor the one I should go with, so I did. They had SO many crust options and pizza options like: meat lovers, Hawaiian, veggie, greek, mediterranean, bbq chicken and many more. I also ordered sweet potatoe fries which is so wild for me because I never do that but I was on vacation and this place gave me happy good vibes. He said it would be about 20 minutes so I took a walk and when I came back it was ready and like $35. Woof. I thought that was expensive kind of but also I ordered a pizza to myself and fries so I was just really hoping it was worth it. Spoiler alert: it was SO WORTH IT. I got back to my hotel, took the pizza and sweet potato fries and garlic sauce on the side went out onto my balcony and was in absolute vacation heaven. The pizza WAS SO GOOD and SO different. It was unlike any pizza I had ever had before and so not my style but I loved it. The crust was soft but thick and fluffy but also had crunch, the flavors were insane and the fresh basil on top delish. This was a specialty pizza place exactly what I wanted. The sweet potato fries were stupid. Probably the best sweet potatoes fries I have ever had. I am so glad that random girl turned the corner with the pizza box when she did. And this place is OPEN TIL 2 AM. Quality quality place. I hope this guy kills it, everyone go here.

We chose the Cucina for dinner...they also have the Club next door which is not as formal, has a store of products, and some tables for eating. The Cucina has a bigger menu and tables are covered with white table cloths and linen napkins so a step up ambiance. Our server, Maricella, was very pleasant and friendly and stopped by several times throughout our meal to check on us and see if we needed anything. We started with the Caesar Salad and added Spanish Anchovy. I was not a fan of the dressing unfortunately...found it to be bland and really not like other dressings I've had. The salad itself was fresh with large chunks of romaine lettuce, a sprinkle of both ground and shaved parmesan cheese and a few (just a few!) croutons. The anchovies were tasty, not fishy in the least, but it really was the dressing that turned me off. Wife said it was "ok". I decided on the Linguine Vongole and was surprised at how many whole clams were in my bowl! The pasta is housemade and not a flat linguine or more of a rugged thick spaghetti noodle. It was cooked well and the clams were good although a few were a bit tough. I also think the sauce needs a huge boost of lemon; I had also requested no chili flake be added. Wife had the Ravioli di Zucca, which was butternut squash filled pasta with a sage and parmesan cream sauce. It was good...although I felt it was sweet, she loved it. The sauce was creamy and flavorful and the pasta was soft and filled with a nice squash filling. We ended our dinner with a shared plate of Spumoni, which was like nothing we've had before. Their Spumoni is layered with a white cake-like layer and then the typical ice creams (chocolate, pistachio, and vanilla). There was a light squeeze of the cherry topping and small chocolate chips. It was good...needs much more of the cherry topping! Family had the Nonna's Meatballs and this was fabulous! Their sauce was sooo good and had a great balance of the tomato flavored marinara sauce. Really good and next time I'll stick with something with their marinara sauce. Good meal overall and I want to try Club next time.

Oh my gosh, the perfect pies! Crust is sour dough with a lovely bit of chew and sauce and topping were perfectly balanced and oh so tasty-. Look no farther for the best pizza on the Central Coast, this is it. *I understand that you need to order ahead because they sell out- and with good reason. You will not be disappointed!

We ended up pre-ordering online the night before and we got the Loaded Veg pizza. All they sell are whole 16" pies, which I don't mind since Pizza is my 3rd favorite food (behind sushi and Japanese bbq). I don't usually get veggie pizzas for 2 reasons. First of all, I love meat. Second, vegetables on pizza usually are mushy and don't taste fresh. I got it because my gf is pescatarian so it seemed like a good choice for both of us to share. I've had pizza at several notable places (thinking of Ceres NYC, Pizzeria Sei LA, Quarter Sheets LA, etc.). They brought the pizza box out to me, and I took a glance inside and knew I was about to feast. I didn't want to wait to get back to the hotel so my gf and I just sat in my trunk and ate it. There are very few restaurants where the first bite of food takes my breath away. I sat there in silence and proceeded to finish the whole slice in a matter of seconds while my gf and I just nodded with major satisfaction at one another. The dough was incredible (light, thin, crispy). The sauce and cheese ratio was perfect, not too overpowering, not too much, just the right amount as a base and glue to hold the toppings in place. The toppings (the veg), were fresh, vibrant, flavorful, purposeful. Everything was exploding with flavor, it was so simple, but so incredible. I wanted to run back inside and order another pizza but they were closing and I felt bad. We got a side of vegan ranch, it had fresh herbs and tasted so creamy, thick, and tangy despite being vegan. We demolished that pizza and the only thought I kept having was how much I wanted another one. The store is super cool, great music, cool lighting and vibes. The people are super polite, friendly, and professional. It legit felt like every single person in that place was happy to be there. More importantly, I think they were so passionate and saw their pizza creations as art. I would dream and aspire to have a place like this myself one day. I'm so sad this is so far away from OC (where I'm visiting from) because I genuinely want to eat this every week. I'll just have to drive up lol. Cheers to the team here, incredible work. You made my day. You gave me the opportunity to try the best thin slice pizza of my life thus far.
