Service was great. From start to finish! New waiter was ernestly in trying to do everything right. Enthusiastic and observant. Fried calamari was superb. I order it out often and this was tender, flavorful and not greasy. A+++ The house salad is a Dennys type of salad. Chopped iceberg lettuce , little else added, nothing special at all. The mini loaf of bread was warm, crunchy on the outside, chewy tender on the inside. Our pasta puttanesca was full of briny flavor, lots of olives and capers. My husband thought he could've had a little more heat, but I liked it. Maybe they could offer a pinch of red pepper flakes? The pasta was cooked perfectly. A HUGE portion enough to share for two people (plus we had grilled chicken added to it, which was a disappointment only because the chicken breast was way overcooked and hence very dry. ) I appreciate that this restaurant has salt and pepper on the table. We found the wine list to be very well priced and a decent variety. I ordered the veterans old-fashioned and it was fantastic. Just enough chocolate and orange bitters to elevate a common cocktail. The tartufo dessert was a letdown... it was very pretty, but it was basically a ball of ice cream, coated in a chocolate shell, sliced in quarters with the Maschino cherry in the middle of the ball. On Wednesday evening I took my restaurant group from Valencia Sound-11 of us - here for a meet and greet dinner. We were thrilled to have a large round table. This is the best seating for us to talk. Rafael and Kenny were our waiters and they were terrific. They gave us time to get acquainted with the menu which included an entrée with soup or salad; the entrées come with a vegetable or pasta. The prices are extremely fair and the food is hearty, and delicious and the portions are generous. There is also an early bird menu which includes dessert along with everything else I just mentioned for a little bit less money if you order by 5:15 PM. Maybe down the road I'll do that if I want to go out earlier. In any case, it was a great success and everyone rated the place with five stars. Also, I have to mention that one of my friends called the restaurant ahead and told them it was my birthday. Lo and behold they brought over platters of bakery items for dessert on the house and of course there was a candle for me to make a special wish. I couldn't have asked for more. Almost no one from my group knew about this restaurant and it's a definite that they will return again. The venue also offers square table setups. They decorate the walls with area artist paintings which can be purchased. There is a full bar also. The only recommendation I would make is for the bathrooms to have a redo. It's time. Don't go here if you are in a hurry. We had a 6pm reservation. When we arrived, the place was packed, but they were able to seat us right away. Our waiter was very nice and warned us that the food comes out slowly. They brought us crispy garlic bread and plain bread. We put an appetizer order in and it came out quickly. It took another hour to get our main courses. They were so apologetic that they gave us complimentary dessert. Everyone except me really liked the food. The veal chop was better than Mario's. The poached salmon was very good too. The vegetable side was very fresh. The potato side came out hot and crunchy. The eggplant parm was served in a skillet. The eggplant was sliced thin (like in Italy) and layered with red sauce. It was topped with hot melted cheese. It could have been great, but the sauce was too sharp. We asked the server to split our bill. The checks came back a half hour later, but he put both charges on the same card. Note: the server said they were understaffed. For reasons to complex to explain we had dinner two nights in a row at La Luna. Friday and Saturday evenings. 6:45 PM reservations. Party of six. Same table. Same waiter. Two vastly different experiences. Friday: Restaurant 75% full. Great service (I gave a 25% tip). Food generous portions and delicious. Total duration in venue including leisurely departure after derert. 2 HRS. Saturday: When we arrived all tables taken. There was a line out the door of at least 20 people. We actually were seated by 6:50 PM as they were setting up our messy table. Menus did not arrive for another 20 min or so. We did not receive our food until we had be seated for 1 hour and 45 min. The kitchen and wait staff were totally overwhelmed, or as they say in the industry "in the weeds". It made for an unpleasant evening Moral: someone has to tell this venue that there is a point where you just have to stop taking reservations. We will never return on a Saturday night. Fri is a crap shoot. Perhaps when the show birds leave things will improve. My advice: Book a weekday evening Monday thru Thursday. P.S. Despite the chaos most if the food was fine. I do not recommend the veal francaise. When we called for reservations On Saturday afternoon we were given any time we wished. It is pretty clear that La Luna does not stagger its reservation times. We visited La Luna Italian Bistro the other night for dinner. La Luna is located in the Polo Shoppes in north central Boca. Plenty of parking available as it's in a sizeable shopping center with a Publix. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly. First impression was that dated ambiance left much to be desired, with worn and dirty carpets and neglected bathrooms contributing to an overall lackluster atmosphere. Service was friendly, but a bit frustrating. It took a while for our server to come out and take our order and then getting our food took a ridiculously long amount of time. From the moment I walked in, it took about an hour to get my entree, which wound up being incomplete. I then had to wait another 10 minutes to get the rest of it. I was really hungry too, so the big wait kind of sucked. As for the food, it was OK, nothing special. I got a radicchio salad with black olives, red onions and marinated pepper strips and I added on some grilled chicken breast. The salad was fresh but extremely basic. The grilled chicken they forgot was served right off the grill and was tasty. Regardless, this plate of salad and chicken came to the exorbitant price of $29 which I found hard to believe. It's basically just veg, sliced black olives and some grilled chicken. How is it nearly $30? Regrettably, the consensus amongst our entire party mirrored my feeling; that the food was overpriced and basic. With underwhelming dishes and subpar service overshadowing any redeeming qualities, we all left unsatisfied. Overall two stars. We have not been able to this restaurant for over 5 years. We recalled the place and after going to the Delray movie theater, we went to La Luna for a 5 pm reservation. We lucked out. We were treated royalty the restaurant was not full, unlike Nino's restaurants because they cater to the high-end people who dine late. We were able to get the early stages bird meals which consist of a choice of soup or salads. A choice of the main course, which had a mef gazania (me) a veal cutlet, and my fiancee had the opportunity to try a pasta special dish. I had a beer and my fiance had a white wine. After the second course, they served dessert which was a delicious chocolate cake, and an apple turnover which was a very good winner the being. For the 3 of us came to 98 dollars we left 20 dollars tip on top of making the total bill $119 I highly recommend I am in a wheelchair and it was not a problem. There is plenty of free parking. Long time patron - over 2 years,before theater- 10 people . Last night's experience was absolutely terrible. Michael our waiter was unfriendly,belligerent, argumentative, threw, the food in the middle of the table, in front of the entire restaurant was litteraly yelling at our table and caused a terrible scene. Kenny one of the amazing servers of this restaurant is absolutely amazing. He went above and beyond. Not event the owner. A dedicated employee. I wanted an evening out for my aunt and uncle and I am in Arizona. I called Gallagher's Steakhouse and was told they don't sell gift cards on line. I would need to have a form emailed to me, fill it out, return it and pay a $35 handling fee for a gift card. What the heck. I called la Luna and immediately got Kenny a server on the phone who called me back the very next day. He helped me organize a gift certificate for my aunt and uncle. He held it at the desk for them. This was for their anniversary on August 14 which I sent them a note about. Lo and behold my aunt and uncle went for dinner last night to La Luna, and when Kenny realized who they were, he ran out to the parking lot to make sure they knew about this gift card for their anniversary. My aunt and uncle love this restaurant and they are both foodies. I've been coming to La Luna for a while now, and I have to say--things are really starting to shine again. The food is consistently delicious, and the overall vibe feels like it's on the upswing. One of the main reasons for that is Kenny. He's incredibly professional, attentive, and just knows how to make your night. You can tell he cares about making sure everyone leaves happy. Even after a few not-so-great experiences in the past, I keep coming back because the recent visits have reminded me why I loved this place to begin with. Wow! How many times did I walk past this restaurant and not stop in for a bite? Too many!. This place is legit, I was born in Italy raised in the Northeast so I know good Italian food. I can assure you there are no can openers in the kitchen. I tried the half chicken scarpariello and it was the best I have ever eaten. Get it with the bones or else you are shorting yourself. Dish comes with side of pasta and a house salad. Great meal! My understanding is it's an owner chef kitchen. No surprise. If you want some comedy come early and see the Boca seniors taking advantage of the early bird special. What a riot...stay out of their way. I will be coming back soon. We came from NJ to visit friends. First time at the restaurant. The food was prepared exactly the way we asked and all 4 of us enjoyed every bite. Garlic bread happened to be very good, but table stakes is not why I eat at any restaurant. Been a while since we dined here and despite viewing some Unfavorable reviews decided to bring my uncle and aunt for a birthday dinner. Rez for 6:30 and we arrive at same. Entrance is packed with people waiting, approximately 10-12 in a small area. One person behind bar seemingly not busy. Wait persons attending to tables with a few empty tables. One person waiting turned to us and others to share they've been there for 10 minutes and gave yet to be greeted. Hmmm, I decide to wait a little and see for myself. After a few minutes, nobody even approaches the waiting mass to inform the crowd of any delay. I think to myself if we can't be greeted, and combine that with some unfavorable reviews I decided to cut our losses and we left to go elsewhere. I hope the owner/chef reads this. What a fiasco. They had about 50 people outside all clamoring to the hostess about their reservation. They over booked about 100%. we got a table outside. No one wanted to sit outside. We sat there. No waiter. No water. No menus. Until I got up and said something. We got water. Menus and bread. We ordered everything at once. Drink salad and entree. The poor waiter was overwhelmed. I felt sorry for him. As I was eating my entree ( the food was FAIR. NO TASTE). I asked the waiter for a check. Thinking we won't see him again for another half hour. I paid the check. No coffee. No dessert. We couldn't wait to get out of there. Awful place. A total fiasco. Do you want to wait an hour to be seated after your reservation.
