Il Girasole remains one of my favorite restaurants. But last night I was a little disappointed. My wife loved her bucatini amatriciana but my muscles in white wine (as a main dish) were blah and tasteless. Really devoid of flavor. Dinner at Girasole was always an expensive evening, but inflation has hit hard. Three years ago at Girasole the steak au poivre was $40. Last night it was $67. A glass of the house Cabernet Sauvignon is now $18. The pastas are still affordable, so a bank loan for an evening at IG is not necessarily required if one is careful. However, what with a glass of wine, an appetizer, a cup of coffee, tax and tip I'd budget for $200 a couple. Nevertheless, we will return read more

What a great hidden gem .great Italian restaurant in Delray Beach. It's a very quaint restaurant white tablecloths, servers wear shirts and ties. The menu is extensive enough, but just right they have all the Italian classics. I will make this a staple. read more

Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures. However this homey feel restaurant was a massive hit with our large group. My favorites were the bolognese and eggplant Parmesan. The restaurant has been open for decades and there seem to be regulars that enjoy the food so I was surprised how underwhelming everything was. The restaurant isn't for me because its a little too staid and sedate though its not stuffy and that's probably a result of the great and friendly staff. We tried several items and nothing for us was even in the good category with a beef dish that was dry and chicken that was tough. I didn't even care for a pasta item and like the other items I chose not to eat much. I would rate the food a two or lower but I upped the reviews stars because of the nice staff. read more

We have been customers for well over 2.5 decades. I truly do not understand why I'll Girasole is under Italian restaurant. Pricey restaurant for retirees and repeat customers. Restaurant seems to cater to a clientele that is the older generation. Located in a strip center with low ceiling, and lots of tables close together. Service is ok, though we didn't see our waitress after the initial order. The wine selection was very limited, with just a few bottles in each category, and bottle prices started around $70 up. Food was good, though not anything special or that you couldn't get somewhere else. My wife and I ate dinner at Il Girasole a week ago. I ordered bucatini with Amatriciana sauce. It was so hot I could not finish it. It was completely my issue that I did not return it, but I did not want to even consider an awkward moment in front of my wife. The next day I called to inquire as to whether their version of Amatriciana sauce was very hot with red pepper. The person who answered the phone said not but chuckled that maybe the chef got happy with the red pepper. I thought that was an odd response for such a fine establishment. I did not chuckle. I ate BRAINS! Growing up, I loved Indiana Jones movies. Temple of Doom was definitely a classic for me. I feel like I was the only kid my age to watch the scene where they eat Monkey Brains out of the skulls and say "yum!" Im just weird like that. So you can imagine when I do a quick glance of the menu here thinking this was just another typical Italian restaurant and my eyes come across the word "Brain", I immediately perk up. It was Calves Brain, sautéed in butter, lemon, capers, and sun dried tomatoes. The texture was pretty much unlike anything I've ever had. The only thing I can really compare to is a gelatinous, mushy catfish. It sorta tasted like fish too, but I think that was mostly because it was prepared the same way that you would usually see fish prepared, so my brain just made the connection. Honestly, I'm not sure if I would order the brain again. I don't imagine myself watching the super bowl with some buddies, some chips, pizza, and battered brain to munch on... It was a hell of an experience though, and I'm really glad I ordered it. Props to the chef and owners for taking chances with the menu. I'm talking like this place is some sort of fast food brain chain. They clearly have more to offer than just weird delicacies. The other food here is actually quite good. The pastas all seem homemade and are very tasty. The starters are all creative and delicious. I tried the frogs legs, which tasted like little KFC thighs and were quite tasty. For someone a little less adventurous, they have really great specials too. We tried the squash blossoms, and were pleasantly surprised by how much flavor they could pack into such little things. The decor is beautiful and reminds you of a very classy Italian joint. The staff are excited to wait on you and help you with anything you need. The menu, as I've already shown, is full of surprises. I had been to Il Girasole over a year ago. I forgot how much I liked this restaurant . The service was great. The special clam appetizer was perfectly seasoned with beautiful fresh clams. I ordered the Snapper as the waitress suggested it and said that it was swimming that morning. It was probably the best fish dish I have had in a South Florida restaurant.An excellent dinner. read more

It is traditional fine dining call ahead to reserve. Great place for quiet celebrations. My favs are the chicken piccata, veal, pastas and burrata. You have to promise to keep it a secret, but if you're looking for an off-the-beaten-path, refined Italian dining experience at an honest price, look no further than IL Girasole on Federal Highway, just south of Litton Blvd in Delray Beach. Located in a small and unpretentious strip mall the past few years, this little culinary hideaway has been serving a loyal and knowing circle of diners in this neighborhood now for 40 years. It was my first visit, and the commotion of Atlantic Avenue felt about a million miles away. We started with an extraordinary appetizer of ossobuco stuffed ravioli that immediately telegraphed that something special is going on in the kitchen here. My tablemate wanted more of that tasty veal and ordered ossobuco as his entrée. He could not stop raving about the flavor and tenderness of the dish. I opted for the chicken cordon bleu which sat in a flavorful, mushroom-rich marsala sauce...every bite enjoyable. We asked if we could meet the legendary founder and chef, Luigi, who graciously came out of the kitchen so we could thank him for our fabulous meal. Were squishy and had a strange consistency. As I was with 5 others did not wish to make a fuss. Just left them in the bowl. Capucino was served lukewarm. All in all, disappointing evening. What a pleasure. On friends recommendation tonight we came to Il Girasole. Just a short distance south of Linton in a strip mall sits this gem. After a pleasant welcome we entered into a very nicely appointed restaurant with soft lighting and well sized clothed tables. Our menus were distributed and, it's the little things, the type size was a little larger and very easy to read. Our server, Kristy, was professional, friendly and immediately made us feel welcomed and appreciated. It's a family restaurant and they take pride in their home. We enjoyed a beautiful plate of beef carpaccio, rich and tasty mushroom soup and fresh Caprese with sweet balsamic glaze. Entrees were 2 fork tender veal dishes, a chicken and stuffed pasta . All served with a well prepared vegetable medley. Very well done and presented, As we sat talking and enjoying the evening, Kristy asked if she could bring us coffee and if she could bring a little tiramisu. Instead of dropping a dessert menu she offered as if in the home. It was a nice way to present a dessert option. Obviously we enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. As their food is delicious, I really wanted to give this restaurant at least 4 stars. This was not my first meal there and would have had many more. However, their waitstaff needs some serious training. From the start of the meal they were whipping plates off the table right in front of us as we were taking our last bites. Hands were constantly in my face. I had to stop eating twice to have room to get the fork to my mouth. I needed to take some medications with my dinner. When I arrived, I put them on my bread plate. As soon as my main course was put before me, I looked for the bread plate. They had taken it along with my medications. Who ever heard of clearing the bread plate when the main dish is served? It is to be used throughout the meal. And shouldn't they have noticed that the plate was NOT empty? A restaurant with their prices and of the caliber they expose to be should have much better, quieter, unobtrusive service. I did get an apology, but it just felt superficial. read more
