I attended a wedding at La Luna in September. The background was simply stunning and beyond picturesque, but that's all I have to say on the matter. To be clear, my sister was the bride at the wedding so I got to see firsthand how unhelpful the staff was. On the morning of the rehearsal, the guide forgot about us. We ended up having to unlock certain sections on our own and doing the rehearsal. On the day of the actual event, the owner was horribly rude. Here's a helpful hint: when someone is giving you more than 10,000 dollars, be nice to them and their families. My sister ended up having a few hundred dollars stolen from her wallet while it was in the bridal suite, which was left unlocked and unattended. Lastly, the food was only mediocre. Everything was bland and boring, and not for lack of an ambitious menu. Thank god my sister and my new brother catered dessert. I don't even want to think about how bad that could have been. read more

This review is strictly for the La Luna event space and event experience, as I've never sat down to dine on the restaurant side. First of all - this space is about as gorgeous as it gets. They've recently made a few cosmetic upgrades to the ballroom, and the sprawling balcony is a gem here in Rochester. I've planned/been involved with two gala fundraisers here, officiated and attended one wedding, and this past weekend attended a baby shower in the event space with all COVID precautions top of mind. Each experience has had such an interesting myriad of issues that I can't begin to imagine how this spot continues to operate under their current model. In one instance, it was a lack of monetary and bookkeeping responsibility on the businesses part. In another instance, the owner tried to bully a host to pay more $$ than what the contract had stated two days before the event - this is all in addition to the revolving door of planners I've worked with in this space. The food at each event I've attended has ranged from inedible to meh, with the bar being serviceable. If you're looking to host an event and considering La Luna, I would urge you to look elsewhere. There are plenty of news stories already about organizations and brides with horror stories, so this feels a bit like piling on, but in the name of transparency I think it is important. There are countless other amazing venues with gorgeous views that will service your event needs with more flexibility and flare (and a LOT less stress for the party planners.) Happy for all of the brides who've had great experiences and hoping this gorgeous High Falls venue can turn it around for folks to enjoy. read more

Very nice private room, balcony inside and out, and view. I attended a retirement party with a cash bar which charged about $8 a mixed drink, though they were well made. The appetizers were a fruit tray, veg tray, pita with hummus/artichoke spinach dip/tzatziki, spanakopita, bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms and meatballs. All seemed like frozen boxed fare. The worst part was the dead bird in the hallway. I believe someone brought it to the attention of a staff member and it remained. Apparently the manager or head something quit just prior so maybe you will have a better experience. read more

This review pertains to their banquet space and catering services. I had my wedding at La Luna's banquet space last summer. It's a unique space that has the industrial/modern feel that can be dressed up or down for any occasion. Facilities: Two level room with a dance floor and overlooking balcony from the second floor. This large room comfortably fit (~180 people). There are also outdoor patios and balconies that overlook the high falls. They also have some smaller rooms with patios/balconies, one of which we used for our rehearsal dinner (60 people). They also have a separate bar room/cocktail area too, which we utilized for our reception. Food/Drink: We worked with the owner Stergios to set the menu, and the prices for food were comparable to other wedding venues, if not a better deal. There's options for open bar, cash bar, or having you pick up the tab for what your guests drink. We were pleased with how the food turned out! ***Coordination: Working with La Luna takes more effort/coordination than having your reception/party at a standard golf club, hotel, or typical wedding venue. As they are a restaurant primarily, they do not have an on site wedding coordinator. This means you must think of all the details you want included and have to set your own schedule for the evening. They may have some suggestions for who to contract if needed, but otherwise it's up to you to decide what you want for the evening. We worked closely with Stergios to finalize details. Service: the workers did an exceptional job with our wedding, they were so friendly and helpful with set up and tear down. Stergios was present the entire evening to make sure things went smoothly. In summary, having your wedding or event at La Luna is a great idea, as the space is so unique, the view is beautiful, and the food is delicious. A veiled gem in the High Falls area. I'm surprised La Luna was practically empty on a Friday night given the aesthetics. You will find it tucked away in the back as you walk through what felt like a museum corridor before reaching the entrance. It's a small, romantic restaurant with about the same square footage as their outdoor terrace that overlooks the Genesee river. The earthy tones and the floor to ceiling windows were welcoming. It was a beautiful night to sit outside. The view was serene and the experience was peaceful as I enjoyed my date with the subtle sounds of the river flowing in the distance. Later in the night when it's dark, the colored illuminated lights shine on the falls. The falls are not visible from the restaurant (the river is), but can be seen if you stroll onto the High Falls bridge next door. On to the food. The baguettes were warm and soft. They had a few cheese and garlic sprinkles on the top and the dipping sauce could have used more vinegar in it to offset the strength of the olive oil. The arancini was the highlight for me. It was very good and cooked perfectly. It was crispy on the outside with soft rice and mozzy in the middle with a touch of parmesan on top. The marinara sauce was mildly tangy and slightly sweet with small chunks of tomatoes. Between the well flavored sauce and the mild arancini, there was a great balance of flavors and texture. I ordered the shrimp and scallops fettuccine alfredo. It was a large portion of noodles and a limited number of seafood. The s&s were arranged around the edges so maybe it was for plating purposes, but a few more pieces of seafood wouldn't hurt. The scallops were slightly rubbery and not seasoned and the shrimps were seasoned and cooked well. The sauce was creamy (but not heart attack thick) and buttery with a mild flavor. Adding red pepper flakes and black pepper was a nice touch. My bf ordered the steak and frites. It was a good sized piece of steak ($27) cooked to order with crispy edges and mostly lean. It was tender and scrumptious except the excessive amount of salt used to season it. That was the only bad thing about the dish. Even the fries were good; thick cut, crispy, and seasoned (less salt than the steak). Reed, our server, was excellent. When we arrived, he moved a table for us so that we could sit in the front with the best view without being asked. He was right on time with check ins and offered great wine suggestions for our dinners. At the end of the night, I mentioned that the steak was over salted just for the chef to know for the next time. He apologized and minutes later kindly brought us each a complimentary glass of wine. Exceptional. I hope this lone survivor can withstand the lack of traffic in the High Falls area. It's a very nice place for an intimate, quiet, and calm setting. read more

Was at a formal event and food served was laughable. Frozen mini meatballs, chicken tenders (lol) and very bland pasta. A lot of fare seemed like frozen food including this awful spinach dip. The bread was not freshly made whether it was from scratch or warmed up. The bartender up front with the amount of people coming to him so he started letting people know there are other bars. Lol. We were outside and the event was wrapping up and people had been smoking on the back area that over looked the river. The owner comes out and reprimands someone for smoking indoors, mind you there are no signs anywhere you cant smoke and were outdoors. Proceeds to argue with her after she put it out. Between the dick head pretentious owner and the terrible frozen food and bland pasta the only thing making the place worth anything is the view over the river. read more

Patronize at your own RISK. The owner and his barbaric culture is the problem. My friend got married at this venue recently, I'm not sure why she choose this place out of all the places in Rochester NY. The owner's rudeness is atrocious. I witnessed him speaking abrasive, condescending and demeaning to me and the bride. I don't see any evidence of D&I with this business (social media, staff) and that's a great indication of the type of employer he is. How many non whites do you employ compared to whites? The food was subpar at best, he offered a plethora of pasta dishes, mash potatoes and bread. The decor of this place is dated and cluttered. Trust me you can do better so patronize other venues make this place your last pitiful choice. I read a review someone wrote 5yrs ago, saying he made the bride cry. I thought wow the attitude and behavior hasn't improved. The star goes to the staff they were wonderful all the event staff and bartender. The owner is the absolute worst. read more

The ultimate challenge is finding the IDEAL wedding venue right ? Who doesn't want a beautiful space to celebrate their big day in an excellent location. My now husband David and I live in downtown Rochester. We've lived in the city for 9 years now, 5 of them in an industrial style loft with HUGE windows. With that said, we wanted our wedding venue to have the same downtown industrial-feel. Something that would be an extension of ourselves and the current place we live. We also didn't want to spend a fortune(meaning more than half of our budget) on that said venue. When we began our search we looked at places like, both Arbour Loft locations(downtown and Charlotte), Hyatt, and La Luna. La Luna was by far our FAVORITE out of the bunch.. although Arbour was a very close second. But we couldn't stop thinking about La Luna. We knew we had to have our wedding there ! And we did. And it was beautiful. Everything went smoothly for us, but like many other couples who had booked La Luna... we had our MORE than fair share of coordinators. Emily was our third and final coordinator, and with her it was almost like we started over with the planning .. only because we really didn't get TOO far into our planning with the previous coordinators. In the beginning for us, it was more like, we booked the place, placed our deposit, asked questions and that was it for the time being. Months and months later, Emily reached out and mentioned she would be our new coordinator ! David and I quickly set up a time to meet with her. And I have to admit, at this moment I was a little annoyed that we were now on our 3rd coordinator, but we were SOO incredibly happy it was her ! We really don't have enough good things to say about Emily. She helped us solidify our wedding day plan and pull off our entire... not so traditional, wedding day ! We had a split wedding day that consisted of a private ceremony earlier in the day, followed by brunch in the restaurant, and a cocktail style reception in the evening. When we told her our ideas, she loved that we were doing something different and quickly helped us come up with an execution plan. She even offered other ideas we didn't even think of ! Every meeting with her was nothing short of amazing. We loved being able to bounce around ideas with her and she was so easy to work with. Also, every meeting we had with her left us feeling so relieved and excited for our big day. And when our wedding day arrived...everything was exactly how we pictured and MORE. It's crazy having this vision in your head and just seeing it all come together in real life is just soooo insanely beautiful. Now, there were a few hiccups during our wedding day, as with any wedding day (more so things that I, the bride, would notice vs anyone else), but Emily was there to fix whatever it was, whenever we both needed her. She had her staff lay out rugs for our first look since it was pretty wet outside and I wasn't trying to get my dress dirty just yet. This was something I didn't even think of ! She consistently checked in with us throughout the evening. Made sure we had some desserts saved for us since we didn't even have time to try any !! She always made sure we had a drink. The list goes on and on. Couldn't have asked for a better coordinator on our amazing wedding day. Now that it's over, we actually miss her ! We would also like to give a huge thank you to the entire team at La Luna for putting it all together. Everyone worked so hard to make sure things were in the right places at the right times. They did an amazing job flipping the room from ceremony to evening reception. They also packed all of our items very nice and neat for us after the wedding. All we had to do was come back the next day and pick everything up. Before I wrap up this review ..let's talk about the food. We had brunch earlier in the day and the food was AMAZING. The brunch consisted of french toast, bagels (upgraded item), fruit, frittata, pasta marinara, and salad. (maybe a couple other things that I'm forgetting right now) We also added on unlimited mimosas for everyone to enjoy ! For the cocktail reception portion of the day we had an assortment of appetizers. Everyone raved about the food and loved that we decided to do it this way vs a traditional sit down dinner. Everyone enjoyed the meatballs and bruschetta especially. Our vision was to have friends and family sit wherever they wanted, mingle, dance, hangout & catch up on life... and it worked out so well ! Everyone had a blast. La Luna was the best decision we made and I cannot recommend it enough to others for their wedding !! My husband and I held our wedding ceremony and reception at La Luna. We had three planners before Emily came on board at La Luna and she was just absolutely amazing! She picked up where the other planners had left off, without missing a beat, and kept our day running smoothly. There wasn't one detail that she didn't think of. My friends and family were all complimenting her work. The food was served quickly to our 85-person group, nothing was cold and everything was cooked perfectly and tasted good. Wedding food can be hit or miss, but they definitely did a great job. The actual venue itself is so perfect for photos and a nice mixture of outdoor and indoor areas for our guests to mingle and enjoy. The venue is so unique, it requires very minimal extra decorations. I had never been to it before it seems like their views (of the ever) would've been lovely if it weren't nighttime and freezing cold. Came here for an applicant interview dinner for work. The restaurant is somewhat hard to find and is located in the High Falls area. I think it shares the same space as Max. Small, no frills interior with seating for about 30. La Luna is primarily an Italian restaurant and their menu's offerings reflect this. You have many options, ranging from pizza, pasta, protein and vegetarian options. The menu is extensive enough to satisfy any craving. The quality of service impressed me very much. Even with our big party (~14), the waiters were very pleasant and efficient. Our water glasses and bread baskets were frequently refilled. Since my work was picking up the tab, I went all out with ordering. I started with the steam mussels for an appetizer and lobster ravioli for the entree. I don't remember the exact prices. It was not cheap, but at the same time, not unreasonable. The mussel dish was ~$15 and the lobster ravioli dish ~$25. Portion sizes were decent. Disregarding all the bread I ate, the appetizer and entree were more than enough to fill me up (and i'm a big eater). Both dishes were delicious. The PEI mussels in white wine garlic sauce were outstanding. Soft and perfectly cooked, with all shells opened. The sauce was light yet rich and the garlic was not overbearing. I pretty much drank the remaining broth from the bowl and used the limitless bread to sop up what was leftover. The lobster ravioli was also exquisite. If it was your only course, then maybe you would leave hungry. However for this dish, it's quality over quantity. Buttery ravioli with generous lobster filling. Even for $20+ out of my own pocket, I would order again in a heartbeat. Overall a nice upscale Rochester restaurant that I will definitely revisit. Atmosphere-wise, I'd compare it to Lento, classy but not stuffy. I've also heard about the great views of High Falls, but unfortunately did not take advantage of this due to the fall/winter weather. read more

Went with a group of friends and it took more than 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge our presence, than another 10 minutes for the waiter to bother to show up and ask our order. The waiter also didn't seem to like us very much and waited an hour to ask my friend if his one year old son needed a high chair. Food was not good either, waaaaaay too many capers in the pizza. That's not an error, capers in pizza! Move on to the next place, you're not going to have a good meal. read more

Stergios and the staff of La Luna provided the catering and service for our wedding last June and they did an amazing job. Everyone had a great time, the food was delicious, the service was stellar, and Stergios made sure everything came off without a hitch. We've also had the pleasure of eating at the restaurant several times and enjoyed it every time. I recommend the arancini, the beautiful caprese salad, the pasta dishes are all delicious, and the chicken marsala was a big hit at the wedding. They also have a full bar and make excellent cocktails. The view from the terrace is amazing, whenever I bring out of town guests to the area to check out the High Falls, I make sure to stop in at La Luna. I can't say enough about what a great job Stergios did for us on our wedding day, and if you are looking to have a wedding in this beautiful space overlooking high falls, definitely talk to the folks at La Luna. As far as the view is concerned, La Luna is on point. Overlooking the gorge, the outside patio is decorated in a simple, yet lovely fashion. Great scenery should go with a pristine dining experience....So you might need to find a different restaurant. This place was bordering on being empty and it still took the server ten minutes to get to the table. I can understand, things happen, but it continued to go downhill. The food had overall positive reviews but, one dish arrived cold. I had the gnocchi in garlic sauce with shrimp and it was impressive. However, it was too expensive for the small portion size. The server was polite but had a limited knowledge of the menu and wasn't helpful when questions were asked. Nothing personal, there was obviously poor training involved. Overall this was an unfortunate dining experience. I won't be going back, and judging by the empty dining room at 7pm on a Friday, they might not last too much longer. read more

I want to leave the facts and let you conclude why I gave them 1 star but would have given none if I could. Today was 94 degree and my wife and I had just biked up the Genesee river. It was 1:20 and we found this place. Never heard of it so we decided to stop in to check it out and have a drink to quench our thirst and maybe look at the menu. After tying our bike up out front, we went inside to see what looked like a nice place but no one was there except the 2 staff (I think 1 was the owner/manager). That was the end of any good impressions. Sorry for the bullet list but this is what happened: 1. Talked to the host, we told him we wanted to just sit at the bar and have a drink. They have a tap system but no beers so we decided to do wine. Not a big deal. 2. We tried to engage the grey haired guy behind the bar in conversation about when this place opened, he had said 2010 and seemed displeased at the fact we had never heard of the place. He walked away for reasons unknown. 3. The host took our wine order. After waiting for more than 5 minutes, we noticed the host was holding the wine bottle but was on the phone. We waited. 4. The long haired guy came back, made a comment to us about how hot it was outside and proceeded to pour himself a cold drink of water, drink it in front of us, left the glass in front of us and walked away. The whole time we thought he was pouring us a glass while we waited for the host but that was a bad assumption. 5. After 5 more minutes of waiting for the host with our wine to come back, we left. He was still on the phone. 6. Took us about 5 minutes to unhitch the bikes and at no point did either staff seem concerned to check with us why we were leaving. We are usually very forgiving to places and will give a place 3 tries to win us over because maybe it was a bad day. This place is not worth the drive down there when there are really good Italian places within a few blocks of this one. When the only good review is a Caesar salad that you make, it's probably time to consider getting out of the industry. read more

I am on the board of the Rochester Spinal Association (a not-for-profit organization) and we were looking for a place to have our fundraiser dinner. We selected La Luna. We worked with Emily from day one, and she made the planning process very easy. The venue was beautiful. We were inside, but had access to the outside overlooking the gorge. Everything was set up as requested. The food was excellent. The parking was convenient. We have received numerous compliments about the venue. We cannot thank Emily and the La Luna staff enough. La Luna is a little known restaurant in the heart of downtown that more people need to know about. Located in the Browns Race neighborhood, it was formerly where Triphammer Grill was. It offers a truly amazing view of the High Falls Area (unfortunately not the actual falls). With a rather large outdoor terrace it's a superb place to admire the short Rochester summers and cloudy in-between seasons. We were recommended to go to their Happy Hour by a friend, and I'll recommend the same. HH is Wednesday to Friday 4-7pm that offers ALL appetizers for $5!!! Pretty swell deal(I'd call to double check this is still the special, it's that good). When we walked in on a Thursday evening, it was slightly awkward as we were the only ones. The staff looked at us with the look of "really"? Apparently when I inquired the previous day was packed, but at 6pm, no one was there this night. Along with the $5 apps, there were drinks specials of $3 beers, and $5 wines/mixed drinks. Like I said, pretty stellar savings. Planning on ordering a few apps and then dinner we were shocked to when the waiter said we couldn't. Apparently when you have the HH specials, you can't get entrees?!? We didn't understand, for we were willing, and able to spend more money on dinner entrees. So with our arms twisted, we simply ordered more apps. I think in total between the 3 of us, we ordered 7 of their total 11 app choices. In the end I was ok with this, I've begun to feel that tasting a lot of a restaurant's apps will give a better feel for how a restaurant is then just 2 entrees and 1 app. We ordered the Steamed Mussels, Antipasto, Fire Roasted Pepper Plate, Momma's Meatballs, Arancini, Fried Mozzarella, and Bruschetta. We thought the mussels were pretty good for being in Rochester. Antipasto was a great value at $7 off during Happy hour, and the prosciutto was salty tastiness. Skip the pepper plate, nothing too exciting there. A lot of the plates had the same crispy baguette. At first, I thought it was the kitchen being lazy. But the more I saw it, the more I enjoyed it, and I dislike bread. All in all, La Luna is a great place for apps, scenery and cheap drinks(only bottled beer, no drafts). With the apps being a great teaser, we definitely plan on returning to try the rest of their menu. read more

We put a deposit down in March 2020 for a Jan. 1st 2021 wedding. Covid hit and restrictions started. ( Which we were perfectly fine with) On Nov. 20th we had our tasting with Emily and Stergios (The Event Planer and Owner.) During this time Rochester was in the Yellow Zone for Covid. Stergios stated that as long as Rochester does not move into the Red Zone for Covid that La Luna would have our wedding. Both Emily and Stergios both said if anything changes (Restrictions Wise) they will call or email us with any updates. On Nov. 25th Rochester moved into the Orange zone for Covid. We were not contacted with any updates to our wedding.(We assumed nothing had changed) On Dec 12th Governor Cuomo banned Bars from being open and indoor dinning. We did not receive any updates from Emily or Stergios about any new restrictions for our up and coming wedding. ( So we thought nothing had changed referring to La Luna) On Dec. 27th ( 4 Days before our wedding) we received an email from Emily Stating that because of the restrictions they could not have our wedding on Jan. 1st. 2021 After a conference call with Emily and Stergios hat same day they claimed that this is no ones fault and that there is nothing La Luna can do about the situation. No one mentioned moving the date or trying to figure out a way to make this work. I emailed Emily and Stergios on Dec. 29th saying how displeased I was with the way they were handling this situation. It makes me angry that La Luna is not taking any responsibility in this situation. I have yet to hear back from Emily or Stergios. They still have my Deposit and did not provide me with a service! I'm hoping now that Rochester is in the Yellow Zone for Covid we would get a response from the owner and or Emily. Still Waiting. I'm writing this review to warn anyone else thinking about having their event here. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

The wife and I tried La Luna on a Saturday night. It was early (6pm). We were the only customers when we arrived. The atmosphere was pretty simple and subtle. We were promptly seated and our waiter started us out with drinks and told us the specials. My wife ordered the special (eggplant parm). Although not on the menu, I asked and then ordered veal parm. Our dinners arrived in a fair amount of time. Both meals appeared to be generous portions placed on a bed of pasta. The first thing I noticed was the veal was breaded in a crispy cover. It seemed like there was more breading than actual veal. Unfortunately the veal was very tough, nearly like rubber. I ate a little and decided to send it back in favor of chicken parm. The waiter apologized and noted that the kitchen staff tried it and agreed it was pretty bad. The chicken parm was very good. The meat was tender and it was a very good portion. The pasta was over cooked as it was mushy. My wife liked the eggplant but said it was "nothing to write home about " Based on this experience I'm not motivated to return. read more

Our experience at La Luna was amazing. The event couldn't have had better food and the service and facility were first class.

The fact that I am giving la Luna a rating of one star is due to the fact that I am forced to rate them. They hosted a sorority formal knowing that people would be consuming an open bar, and after an hour they closed the bar under the circumstance that someone was sick. The whole night they looked for reasons to complain about what was going in which was unprofessional and after just an hour just down an open bar that we had paid for. I understand they have to protect their liquor license but they personally ID'd everyone upon arrival which makes them liable for what happened. Weddings get to the same caliber that a formal would get to so this makes me think that they were fishing for a reason to shut down our formal. Very unprofessional and would absolutely never come back here for any event. read more

The backdrop is gorgeous! We were there for a wedding and the reception followed. We were seated at a table for 8. That meant there was 24 inches of place setting for each person to enjoy their meal. After our fresh greens salad, the staff informed us we had to make room for 2 more places. That meant there would be only 19 and a quarter inches for us to share our plates on top of another's. 5 of us decided to help the situation by leaving. read more

Went there looking for a possible wedding venue ... what an awful experience. First off the person our appointment with was late and then when she got there she was less than personable. Would never want to have to deal with her through the whole wedding planning process. Room is somewhat small although she tried to convince me they can and have for 200 people in the room. Nice view. Service was good. Food was marginal. I had penne vodka with scallops. I'm fairly certain the sauce was from a jar.

The event planner was awful. She showed up a half hour late to our appointment and offered zero information. I can't imagine working with her for the entire process. Take your money elsewhere! read more

Food was fantastic -- everything from start to finish was superb. Service would have been considered painfully slow ... but luckily we were with friends who we hadn't seen in awhile, so we were talking so much, that we didn't mind. I think our waiter kept getting pulled-over to work a wedding in their adjoining banquet-space. We'll be back for the food and have fingers crossed that the service was just "off" that night. read more

If you are able to sit outside, the view and atmosphere here are amazing. However, we were fairly disappointed by the food and the service was pretty slow. The menu at the restaurant differed from the menu online; when we asked about it, we were told the online menu had not been updated yet. The flat bread pizza (though I think it would be hard to mess this up) and the mushroom ravioli were pretty good. The gnocchi arrived cold and undercooked. The vodka sauce was way too salty and tasted like it came from a jar. I would probably come back here for drinks and appetizers during the summer but would probably not come back for a meal. On a side note, there was a wedding going on during our meal...not sure if that was what was slowing down the kitchen. read more

LA Luna is an excellent restaurant. Great food and excellent location. Vodka sauce is best I've had in Rochester. Only downside is the service is slow. They only seem to have 1 server. read more
