Came here for an afternoon bite and I have to stay this place really isn't my thing. It really just seems like another soup and sandwich chain with not a whole lot to write home about. I ordered the veggie sandwich with the tomato basil pasta and my boyfriend ordered a shrimp pasta dish. We really were not prepared to be served cold pasta (this is the one thing my boyfriend really hates) and the sandwich was literally bread, cheese, bell peppers, and zucchini. However, we didn't try their coffee or their desserts so I'll update my review once we try those out. read more

I went here today after wanting to check it out for a while. I was underwhelmed. 1) I was hoping there were more sweets. I originally wanted cake but their cake options were chocolate, carrot cake, and cheesecake. I was hoping they would have something more i line with an Opera cake. I bought a mini creme brulee and a double latte. The creme brulee was really good, but for a cafe the latte was a huge disappointment. They scaled the milk. I took a sip and it burnt the crap out of my tongue. I dumped cold milk in it try and get it down to a drinkable temp. Even with the added milk I couldn't drink it. I checked to see if they use milk thermometers on their pitchers and they don't. I have worked in a cafe before and you need them to make sure you get the milk hot enough but not so hot that it burns. If you don't have a thermometer or use the hand under pitcher technique, 1) you can make the latte too hot to drink, and 2) if you burn the milk it makes the coffee more bitter. Even after I added cold milk I still couldn't drink my coffee for 30 minutes and my tongue got burnt from the way they gave it to me. I don't know if I would go back. Ok, I have been coming to La Madeline since 1999, this is one of my favorite places to eat. In Austin, its "our" place for my husband and I, and being French myself, our daughters name is Madeleine, I obviously have an appreciation for this restaurant and felt comfortable naming our daughter the same. So you would think that I would give this location 5 stars because I am a dedicated follower of this place. Shoot, my two baby showers were at La Madeleine too. Call me crazy but Madeleine is a nice name and it is a comfort place for me, my family and even my closest friends too. This location has been opened a month or two now. I have gone on 2 occasions already, both times a disappointment. The pros: the food is great, the interior decor is top notch, location is perfect for El Paso. The lighting, tables, fireplace, outdoor seating and ample parking next to the garage are all nice. The desserts, soups and all menu options are the same, just like the other locations. They have a window that you can watch one of the workers put together desserts, a nice touch. I met the manager once, he was very friendly. The second time, he asked how the guys meal behind me was but didn't bother to ask us, which is why I am telling you here! The cons: the order taker both times( a mid twenties white girl, her name begins with S and ends with A) is not at all friendly, she was impatient, not smiling, not at all personable, appears to already hate her job. Its actually kinda sad because such a great place should have someone with enthusiasm and happiness, patience and a good smile. Both times I ordered French onion soup (its very good), BUT both times there is hardly any cheese in the soup. Along with not having an adequate helping of cheese in a soup that is known to have a healthy amount of cheese in it, the food runner who coincidentally was the same girl as well as the first time I went and had the same exact issue, looked as if she was annoyed that I would ask for extra cheese. When I thanked her, she didn't acknowledge or bother with eye contact with me to see that I was grateful for her getting a tiny plastic cup of cheese for me. They also don't have it together as far as getting orders correct. The first time I went I received the wrong soup and salad. On both visits they had menu items such as the wild field green salad that was out of stock and also the potato gallette. These are not things a hungry patron appreciates hearing each time they visit; I suggest they get their ordering figured out. I do not like the way the changed the restaurant ordering process. In the other locations, you grab a tray, get greeted by someone who will make to order a salad, or soup for you, or grab a quiche Lorraine, spinach pochette or chicken friande or something along those lines. When you order a soup, you can customize how you would like it, extra cheese, bacon, bread or nothing at all. The way they have this location, everything is made in the back and then you have to wait to get those things that you could have grabbed on the go much faster. A quick, sit down lunch will have to wait, a disadvantage and also not as much of an experience when you can't see your choices on what you really want that day. Oh, you need to play French music or classical, that is what La Madeleine is all about, its supposed to feel like a getaway in a countryside setting, can we have some more ambience? Also, dim the brightness in there, its way to bright, your other locations are not as bight and it gives it a calming, more intimate dining experience. So the service at this location is really a 1 star experience which is terrible for such a great franchise that I have loved for 15+ years. Luckily I am moving back to Austin in a week where I will continue to admire the joy of la Madeleine the way I have come to love for so many years. My suggestion: Hire people who have a better attitude, get the tray line back in your new locations like your older locations still have, better training for the cooks in the back to get the food out correctly, better ordering for ingredients so they are not out of stock. Great breakfast spot in El Paso! Upon searching for a breakfast place while passing through we were a bit discouraged by reviews of some other local restaurants. Thankfully my wife found this spot. Very fast, with very good food and coffee. Friendly service and immaculately clean. Have to recommend the parisien eggs Benedict or the country French breakfast. read more

What can I say, this restaurant is the best of its kind in our area. The food is great and the services is great. I really enjoy their coffee and bread bar. The bottled drinks are expensive but you can always just order a fountain drink or coffee. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for something different and great. read more

So this was my first time at la Madeline and the food was great and the service. Just one thing that kind of annoyed me. I got a dirty wine glass, with lipstick stains. I get up, walk to the front and see a manager (I believe he was a manager because of his attire) I ask for another wine glass. He takes the stained wine glass and looks at it, puts it down and grabs me another. Not a single word. Not a "I apologize" or "I'm sorry about that" so I took it and headed back to my table. It's really simple to apologize. I believe customer service makes or breaks a place. Just surprised it was the manager. read more

Great place in El Paso to find some lighter food. Delicious sandwiches (the Croque Monsieur is a good pick) that are a great deal when you get the Duet Combo (full or half sandwich plus choice of two sides including petite side salad, cup of soup, and a couple of others that I never order...). Nice atmosphere, good service, reasonable prices. Excellent selection of freshly-made pastries if you want to stop for dessert only or for a coffee break. After several days of heavy and delicious Mexican food in El Paso, it's nice to eat something different. read more

So I finally checked this place out with my family. The wait was not bad.( I guess my timing was right) I was upset to know that two things I orderd, were all gone. I was really bummed but I got the pesto pasta. It was pretty good. What I was really digging was that bread and butter jam station! Delicoious!! They have some of the best tasting food but when I went the wait to get our food was like 30-40 minutes and the portions are very small. I got a half sandwich and it was only a couple inches wide just for reference. The food was totally worth it. Also, it is fairly pricy. read more

At 1:22I went to your restaurant at 6801 N Mesa, El Paso, TX 79932 . The cashier was rude to begin with. She charged our credit card and then claimed it did not go through, even though the machine said transaction approved. The cashier while we were eating came to our table to charge us cash, for a second time, like if we were delinquents. We paid since I was with my wife in public. When I checked the bank account the transfer was there. I went to the front and notified the cashier I would need to speak to the General Manager and in a smart tone, she replied the General Manager is off today. She did not apologize or make any attempt to correct the situation. She calls the manager, who refused to give her name. The manager stated that there is nothing she can do that I have to take it up with the bank. She also refused/failed to apologize. I told her that this was unacceptable and she said that this is a private business and There is nothing I can do about it. read more

Went there today for the 1st time. The were about 16 of us and the service was amazing. They went all out to make sure we were all together and comfy. The food was also amazing, I ordered the Chicken Parisien Sandwich and Tomato Basil soup. They were both very good and the portions were a great size for the price. Everybody had something different and there was not one complaint from anyone. We will be returning very soon. read more

Great atmosphere however, the food technique still needs to be refined such as preparing eggs Benedict without over cooking the eggs.

My favorite study spot! The egg-white omelette is amazing, and so is the grilled chicken Caesar salad! Cute little spot, give it a try!

Looked forward to this restaurant opening. But when we came for breakfast, they had no potatos ready so we could not order the French breakast. And there was no coffee ready. Diappointed. Not a great start. Update- waited over 30 minutes with no food. Went to get a refund which took another 10. They did give us our meals to go which was nice of them. Other couples came up to complain of waiting over an hour. It will be some time before we return. read more

Fantastic menu, very different to what is available, normally in El Paso. Great coffee, great pastries, and a great atmosphere. Only complaint is that you have to order at a register before you sit down, and beverages are self service. Other than that, fantastic! read more

I have been a fan of La Madeleine since visiting them in Houston and San Antonio. The ambiance was always very quaint and the service outstanding. I went to breakfast to the east side store on 12/14 and was disappointed that it did not have that quaint feeling of being in a French Cafe. The service was not up to par and the decaf coffee urn was empty -- had to wait about 20-30 minutes after having to go to one of the cashiers to ask them to refill it. When I did get it, it was full of grounds. Was used to having the empty plates removed when we were finished eating, but it took a good 30 minutes for someone to come around and remove them. Went to La Madeleine after trying to eat at Kona Grill (they had a 45+ minute wait with an empty dining room?). Anyway...we were all pleasantly surprised. The girl who took our order was friendly and very knowledgeable, wish I would have looked at her name tag. I ordered the rosemary chicken and ceasar salad, both were excellent. I wish the salad had more dressing but I feel as though that is a preference not a problem. My husband and girls all had sandwiches and soup They loved the potato soup and they said the sandwiches were also good. We also ordered the desserts, all very tasty. It did get crowded while we were there and the line seemed to move slowly. Our food took about 25 minutes to get to us but we feel it was worth the wait. read more

The Croissants are to die for. I'm a French culinary snob. I wasn't thinking much just another "Patisserie Wannabe" in El Paso, also known as the King of Chinese food. But...I was hooked from the first bite from their Croissant. This place is Legit. So I purchased two dozen Croissants and a French cheese cake. I love La Madeline. The ambiance and food are so refreshing. We often go on the weekends after church and enjoy their bread with fruit spread and coffee. There is something for everyone and we have found it to be a very family friendly place to eat. No matter what meal or what time of day we have eaten there it has always been a great experience. Just tried La Madeleine for the first time. It was rush hour during lunch, so I had to wait a bit to order but it was well worth it! I decided to sample the Quiche Florentine and the French Onion soup. The French Onion was full of flavor and the Quiche Florentine literally melted in my mouth. To top it off, I ordered a cup of their French Dark Roast coffee and was not disappointed at all by how strong it was. I took some Lemon Creme Cake to go for later this evening but I'll definitely be coming back again! read more

After having seen all the five star reviews I was kind of hoping for more than just "meh". First off, I really liked the decor. It was really home-y and had a country lodge kind of feel to it. I wasn't super hungry and got a bowl of the cream of mushroom soup. There wasn't much mushroom flavor and as my SO pointed out, it was buried under a buttload of onions. My SO got the French country breakfast which consisted of two eggs any style (sunny side up), two slices of tomatoes, a giant croissant, a choice of breakfast sausage or bacon (bacon), and potato galette. Not sure why he got two slices of tomato placed like that on the side; seemed like a bit of a joke. The eggs with the galette was okay, and croissant (thank God) was amazing. The bacon was... like bacon-flavored crackers. They were so thin and brittle and dry we actually left them. We didn't eat the bacon. They had some free bread and jam to try which was a cool concept for a bakery except that the bread and jam were both very cold and the bread tasted kind of mediocre which is probably what happens when you just grab loads of it out the fridge and then cut them up to serve without warming them up a little. Cold bread just doesn't evoke freshness.. The lemon tart was also just okay. The lemon cream filling portion was really yummy and the right balance between tart and sweet but the crust was so hard we couldn't cut it with fork or knife. I don't mind a bit of firmness to the tart's crust but it shouldn't turn into a game of flying tarts for me to just cut a small bite off. Lastly, the double lattes were amazing and yummy and delicious. Overall, the place was a solid A-OK. I'm really glad a French bakery/cafe was able to get its croissants and lattes right, but it was a lot of back-to-back hits and misses that left me feeling undecided and underwhelmed. read more

Wow what a disappointment. Had the beef bourguignon. Meat (maybe beef) was tough and chewing through the connective tissue, not only took time but was not appealing. After eating enough small pearl onions, removed over 30 additional to minimize the bitter taste of them. The carrots were from a bag, you know the small abraded ones you put in a kids snack bag. These combined with the frozen peas in a tasteless gravy they called "demi glace " made me wished I had skipped dinner. No wonder the French hate us passing this stuff off as "French" food read more

I used to frequent Le Madeleine in San Antonio. They served THE best chicken caesar salad. I anticipated the EP opening with so much excitement. Unfortunately, the disappointment began with the 20 minute long wait to order. Granted, it is a new place and the folks in front of us may not have been quite sure of what to order. But, then it took over 30 minutes for our order to arrive to the table. My husband had to approach the counter to inquire what was taking so long. Another guest next to our table, also complained and she received a free dessert. The chicken caesar salad did not taste, like I remembered; it was rather bland. My husband had the balsamic chicken and pesto sandwich, and tomato basil pesto pasta salad; it was good, I would order the sandwich again. The strawberry roman off had delicious strawberries, the cream is made of sour cream and gets some getting to used to I suppose. We went during lunch hour on a random Tuesday, and it was difficult to find seating. We ended up spending approximately 50 minutes in the restaurant before even tasting a bite! read more

This is a must stop place when shopping at the Fountains. Take a break with one of their scrumptious pastries and a coffee on the patio...you won't be disappointed:-) Super friendly service from staff to management.
