Decent food, good value/prices, service was friendly even though a little slow. Docking an extra star because of cleanliness (found an eyelash in my food.) Got the small menudo (only available Saturdays and Sundays). The small was more than enough. The two pieces of bread it came with were really good. However, I was adding the side of onions into my soup and noticed that there was an eyelash in there.. which was kinda gross. My husband got the bacon and egg breakfast burrito. Our waiter was the only good thing about this restaurant. The food was gross. My niece ordered a burger that was the only good thing. Her fries were under cooked. Red rice was undercooked. My local friend recommended this place if i wanted "real Mexican food" while i was in town. The huevos rancheros were absolutely fantastic and like no other I have had before. I'm used to them being in a red sauce but whatever sauce they created was amazing. The staff was super sweet and the decor was nice with cool lanterns hung around the restaurant. read more

Did not really care for the place , the tortilla chips served at table were very salty and not really fresh. The drinking cups are so old cracks around the rims. The plates are old food doesn't look pleasant with cracks on them. I wouldn't recommend this place . Guacamole not appealing . Maybe some of the food is good . the green chilaquiles where so bad I do not recommend. The meat that came with it was a so dry and hard, my teeth started to hurt. The chilaquiles were very watery and all you could taste is wet pieces of chips. You can barely taste the green chile sauce. Service is the only thing that was good. A fabulous place for brunch (and or dinner ) We all had the A La Mexicana, I had steak picada (chopped into small pieces. I think it comes with scrambled eggs but you can get it any way. I would rate this place a solid 4 but the ambience was a 2. The food and service was very good. So let's say 3.5 stars. The price was pretty amazingly low. To the owner...Remodel and raise prices by $2.00 You might lose some regulars that only eat there for the price but keep those recipes and you will keep those who love the food and gain a lot more new ones. Decent strip center restaurant. I ordered a fajita burrito and it was just meat and tortilla. Usually burritos have beans or lettuce or some kind of other filling. I had to order a side of refried beans. The service was good and the food tasted fine. Only disappointing thing is that they did not have Mexican Cokes or Topo Chico. read more

I haven't been to this location on the west side in years since right before my mom passed but she used to drive from the east side all the way down (nothings far in EP) there to get menudo to go and it was a treat every time we were in town. She used to take my two daughters there when they were younger and would spend summers with her and they always got the same thing every time they went. One was red cheese enchilada's and the other was a guacamole burrito with extra cheese. My sister has been back since and says menudo is just as good as ever. Great memories. read more

Food wise the place was good at best but I would never return. The service is the worst I have experienced. It was Sunday so I expect it to be busy but we sat down at a table that was dirty. It took about 20 minutes for someone to clean our table. People who came in after us were being served looking around there were many tables that weren't being helped. I went to speak to the hostess. I asked if there was a waitress assigned to us. She was the rudest hostess ever. I didn't get her name but she is an older lady with lighter hair. Everything I asked was met with a rude reply. She ended up serving us and it was not a pleasant experience. I would have left but my Mother who has limited mobility didn't want to F ind somewhere else. I'm a big fan of La Malinche but I must confess I like the one on Brook Hollow just a tad more than the others although if you ask me why I won't be able to give you a good answer. It's one of those je ne sais quoi things. The service and food at all of them is excellent and I've never had a single less than perfect moment. Maybe the plate just looked a little emptier at this one. It was no less filling or satisfying. Maybe it was the lack of chips and salsa to start or maybe I was still grumbling about having a tough time finding a close parking spot. Maybe they should hang some Mexican style decorations or play some Mexican mood music. Well I still like it and I'm glad to have one on the west side. We have been eating at this location for many years. The service is always very friendly and attentive. The food is pretty consistent with quality and taste. I don't normally write bad reviews; if the place is bad I may tell a few people and not go back. However, I thought I would send a word of caution out. We visited on 12/26. Service was great the food looked good too. My husband's taco order was wrong in that they made them with corn tortillas instead of four. If it hadn't been for that my husband's tacos wouldn't have fallen apart from sogginess. He was eating the pieces with the fork when he discovered an entire cockroach in the chicken meat of his taco. The owner was apologetic and said he would cancel the order. We promptly left without causing a scene. Maybe this wouldn't be a big deal to some considering most restaurants have pests roaming around the kitchen but you should really keep it out of the food. We'll miss this place, but we can't stomach going back. read more

We recently went on a road trip to Mexico and en route, passed through EP. We were all very hungry for a Mexican-style breakfast and so my handy Yelp app helped me locate this restaurant. Great find! My in-laws are pretty particular when it comes to "mexican food".. being that they are.. . and I got plenty of kudos from them for this "great find" for them. They are now adding it to their routine whenever they travel through EP. First things first.. it was busy.. a good sign that the locals like it and support it. Some of the clientele knew eachother and so did the staff and clientele - good sign. Next was the flavor of the food. Hubby got machaca and I got the steak with eggs and FIL got the enchiladas... we were all eating from eachother's plate - everything was very flavorful, cooked freshly and very filling. Staff seem under-equipped (being that it was quite busy) since I only saw 2 or 3 servers, but they were on the ball - quick with orders and quick with any requests. We were delighted to have had a tasty and filling meal with quick service in an obviously much-enjoyed establishment. read more

My mother and I decided to have lunch here yesterday and our experience was horrible. My mother ordered the machaca and to her dismay she found a hair in it. The waitress was more than apologetic , but when it was time to pay the owner was very rude. She provided no discount or even an apology. The service is friendly, efficient & attentive. They get the food out quick & piping hot & never fail to refill your drink or the complimentary basket of chips & salsa. The chiles rellenos were gooey and cheesy and smothered with a red sauce that was slightly spicy. Yum! Also recommended is the Hamburger steak, which is a beef patty covered in queso sauce. The quality of our Doniphan Drive location has gone way downhill in recent months. On our last visit over the weekend, the tables were dirty, the floors were filthy, and there were dead roaches in the corner. The chicken in my chicken salad consisted of little dry spindles of "meat" and the lettuce was browning. I don't know why, but the quality of this place has just plummeted. read more

This is not the first time this place and location disappoints, but it will definitely be the last. It seems like every time we eat here the quality gradually gets worse. Decided on menudo on Sunday morning. The waitress which was doubling as cashier, was wearing a shirt so opened in the front, it was completely inappropriate and made me embarrassed to even talk to her. Her chest was overlapping everywhere. So she finally brings us silverware, only to see that it's dripping with what looks like soggy bread.
