I like ethnic grocery stores. The produce section is nice. Fresh items are available such as parsley, cactus and dragon fruit. Tofu is cheaper here. There are several choices. The spice rows are interesting. I try to have meals and menus in mind while browsing the aisles. Otherwise I end up with cooking oil with pineapple that I still haven't used. read more

Another international market. Love 'em!! This one has really nice produce and a unique meat department. I found red grapefruits the size of a pumpkins (bought 3) which seem to have the consistency of catalogue but taste like red grapefruit. Hmmm..... This place sells whole frozen sheep heads and hooves (didn't buy any lol)....and beef knees. Yes, you read correctly....beef knees. apparently they have every part of the cow, sheep and lamb you could possibly imagine in this place. Talk about Old McDonald's Farm. Sheesh. Went looking for oxtails and short ribs and really wasn't impressed, but I was sure was tempted to buy a huge leg of lamb. I saw one about 20 in long for $23. A good deal. Bought some short ribs even though they were cut in half. Also a bag of cut lamb in cubed chunks. They also have slabs of goat meat, which is unique from most stores which tend to carry little small chopped up pieces full of bone. They also carry sliced pork bellyv- which I love. I plan to return this place cuz I really like their prices and selection. The checkout is efficient; the parking is on site and it happens to be across the street from a LIDL so I can kill two birds. After going to the Alexandria location and loving it, we came here on a Saturday - What a mistake! 1. It's half the size, so obviously a smaller selection offered here. 2. The place was disgusting and dirty - yuk! Even the signs were black from dirt. 3. The customers are rude here too... I know that's not the store's fault, but we had several people (a certain ethnic group, only ladies) cut us off, block us with their carts, bump us with carts, etc. Ridiculous that some people have no manners! Oriental stores are known for being dirty and have a strong seafood smell. Well LA mart is pretty clean and for safety they had a greeter handout gloves at the entrance. They have a huge produce selection, it is larger than Grand Mart's but not as big as Lotte. The thing I liked was they have a lot of Filipino items. It seemed like in every isle there were Filipino things, which is uncommon because we usually only get a couple shelves in an aisle and that's it. Also their Filipino ice cream is Magnolia... and they had every single flavor!!! Bottom line, come here if you need Asian stuff and some Latino stuff. But, definitely come here if you are Filipino and don't want to have to go to several Asian stores to get what you need. read more

Nice place to grab a quick bite to eat. This is primarily a grocery store but there is a small restaurant inside. There are about 5 tables. Place your order at the counter and once your order is ready, the kind lady calls you over. For the most part, everything we tried was quite tasty. The Soondubu jjigae was my favorite. Once you are done, place your trays on the rack beside the counter. You don't have to pay tip here. The grocery store offers snacks, seafood, meats, veg, condiments, etc. Overall, La Mart is a good place to do some grocery shopping and grab a quick bite. read more

La Mart had opened its 4th location just 10 min away from me. There were SO many flowers near the entrance that I couldn't get them all on this photo. For advertising wise, La Mart really needs to work on updating their website. Not only we can't find what's on weekly sale, their website doesn't even mention the new store. Extra employees everywhere, but the store was nearly empty. Advertise! As a Korean, I'm always looking for a good deal on Napa & radishes. This weekend, you could buy a box of radishes for $9.99 & a box of Napa for $2.99 in Annandale! La Mart has nice selections of vegetables & meats, but Kimchi ingredients aren't ever on sale. Also, it would've been sweet if they had food court. (Alas~ If only a Korean market had opened up at the Toys-R-Us location.) I'm irked that they had chopped up the 4 makerels into chunks- heads all included. Yuck. I requested #3, the butterfly shape. I was going to grill them. Why bother to go here when there are so many other Asian markets in the area that are cleaner, fresher fruits and produce, equal or lesser in price? I stopped by in passing thinking I could drop in for a quick second to check it out and pick up a for things to make a salad. The produce section is tiny compared to HMart and regular supermarkets. Frequently sold/popular items like carrots and green onions looked good but other stuff like some of the green leafy veg, herbs, oranges etc looked a bit sad and tired. Prices were ok on sale items, equal to shopping at HMart but better than Safeway/Giant but in the end I just walked out rather than pick take the time to pick through produce. read more

Purchased 2 packs of meat one " sell by April 3rd " and the second " sell by April 4th" on Thursday March 28th , today is April 1st . I went in today tell them how could this meat been sold if it wouldn't even have a shelf life of 3 days. His response "you didn't buy the meat in that condition , we don't know where you kept that meat. The sell by day means we have to sell it by that day and you have one day to eat it" - what ?! And I told him I had another one that is still great , red and doesn't smell HORRIBLE and he said that it could be be true. The one pack of meat the went bad in 2 day has a sticker underneath (being the original) with marked date "April 1st" which I didn't notice until this morning. He asked for my receipt and I obviously didn't have it 1 because who keeps those types of receipt ; never thought I'd have to go to a store and tell them the food didn't even have a shelf life. How are they selling meat and overlaying stickers so carefully that if you didn't look any closer you wouldn't notice it ! Never will purchase anything from here again. read more

When coming here, be careful when parking. I've seen some cars hit because of the small spaces and people almost hit. Once you make it past the parking challenge, going inside you will see lots of fruit and vegetables for a good price and quality. When in season there are lots of exotic fruits as well. This place is cheaper than most other markets and grocery stores. The meat and seafood are reasonably priced and great quality. This is probably the worst place to go do groceries shopping. First social distancing is not practiced here. Cashiers are rude,don't smile makes a awkward moment, and can't understand English. Rude managers. The Butchers are mean and if asked a question they give the rudest answer not even a pint of care. It's dirty. One can't help but compare La[me] Mart to similar Asian grocery stores around here. Maybe it's me, maybe it's them, but seeing as how I'm the one writing the review - it must be them. You'll find your produce, your live fishies, those other meats, the mandatory Hispanic foods aisle, and if you're lucky a favorite Asian snack. Don't get too excited now, they don't have it all. What they do have is a decent amount, but nothing in abundance. Get ready to wait on weekends if you have your eye on certain produce, but while you wait, strategize how you'll be making your way around people that like to park themselves dead-center in the middle of an aisle. It's just unfortunate that the people working here are as cold and stinky as the durian they sell. Lady running the "No More than 7 items" lane, seriously, quit taking people who have a million items and other lady, don't give me the cold shoulder when I ask you about the sample of whatever it is I'm about to eat. I know you're in Springfield, but it still won't hurt to smile. If you really can't hike down Backlick Road a bit more to that slightly better grocery store just like it, I suppose you could settle for this place. read more

My family has been coming here for years mostly because it's close by and has fresh produce at great prices. Only come here for fruits & veggies and maybe Asian snacks. Everything else is overpriced and the meats aren't that great. But don't count it out you can expect to save $30-$40 monthly if you do your grocery here! I'll warm you up front that parking can be a struggle because of large crowds and cramped parking spaces. The secret is to park behind the store. The store could be cleaner and there is a weird mixture of stenches that hits you when you walk in but it has never affected the quality of the food so it's a preference. The great part is that you'll find a wider variety of produce from all parts of the world that you won't find in your typical grocery chains like Safeway & Giant. Since my family is big on making home cooked meals, we are frequent visitors. read more

Well, let me start by warning you that parking is challenging here. Be careful! Don't run over people or into cars. When you first walk in, there is an over powering fish funk that smacks you in the face! I was extremely shocked and froze when I saw the number of people running around the this place and picking items as if they were the last few items left in the world. They have everything and it's all very very very reasonably priced. I always have a habit of shopping around the grocery store and rarely visit the aisles (freshness beats a box or bag) and that's exactly where you want to shop in a place like this. Once you start hitting the aisles and trying to purchase items that you'd find at shoppers the $ goes up. I have been going to this store for years and have never had any issues but today was a different story. I needed extra bags for my grocery to carry it up the stairs for the fear that they might break but the cashier and the "manager" named "leam" refused to accommodate me. The manager was bent on vouching for the single bags' integrity, contrary to my experience with them in the past. They can afford to give a few extra bags to regular customers but they'd rather act in a way to drive the customers away, something i'm considering at the moment! The store is very crowded and there's not a lot of room in between the isles to move around. They do have most of the grocery items. The Bakery area is exceptionally worse as you'll see some products with mold growing on it or being close to expiring soon. read more

Korean, Chinese, Thai, etc... even Latino food items, so their slogan of 'International Foods', is right on the spot. - The prices seemed reasonable compare to HMart, Lotte, etc. - seafood, meats, etc., they have it all... even kitchen materials Cons: - limited space... will hit other carts or you'll have to wait for others to pass you by as they put displays in the middle of the aisles. - parking lot sucks...small spaces and very cramped - limited check-out lanes are open, creating a long lines This location seems to be busy and the parking lot will get full... with limited check-out lanes, give yourself some extra time. read more

LA Mart is the new kid on the international food market block. Imagine the unholy offspring of H Mart and Bestway Supermercado...and what you'd get is LA Mart. The LA Mart is a good-sized store, much smaller than Super H Mart in Fairfax, and perhaps a little bit smaller in size to Bestway on Telegraph. It has its own parking lot which is a fairly small and somewhat difficult to access and maneuver. Once inside the store waits a full-service, somewhat cramped, chaotic market with tons of fresh produce, a butcher shop, a wide selection of seafood, and canned and dry goods. LA Mart is largely an Asian market, but it also carries a significant amount of Mexican/Latin food items. Prices seem fair. It truly caters to an international crowd! However, by catering to such a diverse audience, LA Mart doesn't offer a selection for either cuisines nearly as well as Super H Mart or Bestway, especially Super H Mart. LA Mart's produce and seafood departments pale in comparison to Super H Mart. More importantly, on a weekend afternoon, LA Mart doesn't offer nearly the same amount of free food samples as Super H Mart! In the end, LA Mart offers a much more convenient option for me to go to pick up a key ingredient that I may need in an Asian recipe, but if I have the time, I will always opt for Super H Mart over LA Mart. read more

It will be very important for you to pay attention to the smell in the back of the store and to realize that all seafood they have is well over several days old. We purchased cooked crawfish for a treat (we're from New Orleans). When we opened the crawfish, the smell could've knocked us over! When we called La Mart to return the crawfish they said they would not take them back. Buyer beware! Some produce may be a good deal, but seafood and meats are borderline dangerous. And any produce you get your have to be careful with what you put into your basket. Some of the produce is rotting on the shelves. Quality control within this grocery store is sorely lacking. I shop here every other week mostly to get deals on vegetables & Asian condiments. Depending on when you go, the produce is hit or miss, but it has been better lately. They sell young thai coconuts, which I love, for only $1.29 each. I have seen some of the same produce items sold here, repacked and sold at chain supermarkets for 3 times the price. The shelves are almost always well stocked, but sometimes they have a good product that suddenly disappears. (eg: I could not find hon-mirin today and they were out of puck (Iraqi) cream for a while). Prices here are the lowest I have seen anywhere on items like royal jelly, kewpie, raw cashews, & rose water. This is also the only place I have been able to find cake flour lately. If you are looking for some of the "superfoods" or healthy oils (like rice bran oil), that have been featured on TV health shows, they have many of them here, so you don't have to overpay for them at some trendy food store. The staff is okay, though often times they seem hurried, or do not speak fluent English. I was looking for rice syrup and although I am pretty sure the staff member did not know what it was, he did go out of his way to try and help me find it. Cashiers are almost always friendly. The meat section is quite varied and has some nice rib eye, affordable tenderloin, and fresh pork belly. They also sell various animal parts for soup or yakitori. The fish section has sushi grade salmon which is a better deal than I have seen anywhere else. Their shrimp is a decent price, though it is usually not deveined. There used to be a small restaurant inside, but it no longer exists. In it's place is an area for rolls, chicken eggs, quail eggs, milk, almond milk, and sweet breads. There is also a small area where you can grab some useful cooking supplies, like a scum skimmer, deep fry net, steamers, and cutting boards. I bought a pair of scissors there for $5 and they are really sharp and nice quality. If you are a fan of any of the Japanese or Korean cooking shows on YouTube, this place will very likely have the noodles, spices, vegetables, & meat you need to make most of those recipes at home. The aisles and parking lot can get crowded, so I would avoid this place in the afternoons on Fri, Sat, & Sun. read more

Bottom Line: Go spend your money at another store if you want to, but my $20-30 worth of groceries would be at least, $50-70 at another grocery store. It is what it is. I am a vegetarian and I buy all of my fresh produce from here. Hands down it is the most affordable place to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. I do purchase meat for my dog (raw food diet) at this location and the meat is... hmm... ok I guess? The price is great, but I find if I do not take the meat home right away and freeze it, it will start to smell within a couple of hours. The meat is ok for consumption for my dog, not sure if I would use this meat for a cookout where I am feeding guest. Just my opinion. the place stinks too, lol. My recommendation - stick to the fresh produce, can't beat the price! LA Mart I love shopping at LA Mart. It is by no means a pretty place but if you are in the market for some amazingly fresh but low price tropical fruits and vegetables, look nowhere else. I was able to fill up an entire grocery cart with fruits and vegetables and only paid less than $50. Here are some highlights: An entire box of fresh yellow mangoes (18 count) for $8, half-a-dozen avocados for $3, a gigantic bag of shallots less than $2, green onions - 4 for $1, an entire bag of guavas for $3, and 5 passion fruits for $4 (usually these are like $3.50 EACH at whole foods). There are other groceries as well (fish and meat) but I'd rather go to H-mart for those). When coming here, expect to not find parking, expect to end up with shopping carts that are falling apart, and expect to get nudged around by people speaking different languages. I suspect the fruits and vegetables are the most popular thing here and it is very worth the trip for those living in the District, Arlington, or Old Town. read more

Have you ever walked out of Whole Foods with a tiny bag of groceries and the bill came out to $50? For me that bag was probably filled with snacks too, no one buys real food to cook with at whole foods. Not here! This place you can walk out with 20lbs of groceries for $30. Today I bought produce that fit into 6 bags and that's what the bill came out to. I would have eaisly paid over a $100 at Harris Teeter and it wouldn't have been nearly as fresh. They have the best fresh noodle selection of all the grocery stores I've been in Nova - FRESH pad thai noodles, rice noodles, lo mein noodles, wheat noodles, they have it all. Most of the herbs here at .99 cents. They even have Kaffir Lime Leaves. There's always some unusual ingredient to try out here. They also let you select your produce and pay by the pound, unlike Trader Joes. There's always a sale going on so you can pick up fresh fruit for less than a dollar a pound. So why are the prices so cheap? It's kind of dirty, it's crowded and disorganized, the lot is really tight. If they updated and fix these issues the prices would triple. I cook lots of weird stuff and this is my go to place to hunt for hard to find ingredients. read more

LA Mart has great produce, meat, seafood and various grocery items (Asian, Latin, standard American stuff) at really low prices. I think the seafood section has better offerings than the standard grocery stores. It gets crowdedd during the weekend, so if you can, shop during the weekdays to avoid the crowd. The aisles are not as large as places like Giant or Safeway so it can be a tight squeeze especially in the meat and produce sections. Customer service is almost non-existent, but there are some employees that I encountered that were willing to help even if their English skill is limited. read more
