I've always had very good service with La Mesa Auto. They installed a clutch and flywheel for me nearly 3 years ago, they've also done simple stuff like oil changes and rear pinion seal repairs for me. Today, I had them install a new water pump w/ a coolant flush, a new serpentine belt, and replace a very warn, leaking valve seal cover gasket on my S-10. Whole thing cost less than $600, which was lower than other quotes. They also found and patched some (new) rodent damage (which doesn't surprise me because I live in Ramona) at no charge! That's why I recommend these guys. I drive clear across town and make reservations to have these guys work on my truck so they can tell me what exactly's going on, completely fix and explain how to avoid the issues in the future. I had an AC problem with my 2009 Rogue. I explained to the shop (mike) that the AC was working, just not getting as cold as it should. What I wanted was for them to pressure test the system and, if no leaks, add Freon to the system. 10 minutes after drop off, I was called and told the system was leaking Freon at the condenser and that it would be $600 to repair. I refused the repair. I'm quite certain all they did was pull the car in and visually inspect the system. They didn't bother to actually test the system for leaks (again, the AC was working at probably 70% capacity). For this 15 minute visual inspection they charged me $108. I took the car to a different shop (CAR Automotive in Spring Valley). They tested the system and found no leaks. CAR added Freon and dye to the system (for diagnostic purposes) and the AC has been working great every since. I was charged $180. My main gripe with the La Mesa shop was that they didn't bother to pressurize the system and check for leaks. That's what I was told they would do. My husband and I have been taking our cars here for a couple of years now. I really appreciate their honesty. I recently had some car trouble and took it to a place closer to my house (BIG MISTAKE) They gave me an outrageous prize for the repairs. I took it the next day to La Mesa Automotive and they gave me the exact same diagnosis for 700 dollars less than the other guys. Not only did they offer to give me a ride home so I wouldn't have to spend all day there waiting for the repairs they even offered to give me a ride back to pick up my car as soon as it was ready, and I don't live nearby either. There needs to be more mechanics like this on times like these. This place is fair with their prizes and very trustworthy. They don't try to over diagnose. Oh and It was such a nice surprise to see my car washed my windows washed and my wipers were replaced all at no extra cost. They also topped off my coolant since I was running low. Went to get an alignment and was told many of the parts in the front suspension were bad. As it turns out, after they moved a tire up and down, some of the parts appeared to be loose. I thought some of them had been replaced and told them that. The mechanic said that I had "crappy Chinese parts" on my car. The parts were bad and I had them replaced by my mechanic, not them.them. Not very professional in my opinion to tell me I have crappy parts on my car. Didn't get an alignment there and won't be back. read more

Will kept me informed of progress and small problems that arose. Wayne is a problem solver and a doer. Things get done efficiently and soundly under his direction. Woke up today with a dead car battery and a full calendar at the office - not a good combo. AAA came and jumped my car and I called La Mesa Automotive since they are right around the corner from my house. The price was competitive and when I asked how long it would take they told me 15 minutes. Score! I headed over and they got to work on it right away. Unfortunately, during the process they found the terminal needed replacing due to corrosion. They didn't hesitate to take care of it without increasing the charge. What a pleasant surprise! We've been here before with the same great customer service and quality workmanship and won't hesitate to return and to recommend La Mesa automotive to our friends. read more

Ive been taking my car and truck here for over 10 years. Ive always thought they took care of me, they SEEMED to fix every problem but it takes them hours or days to fix a simple brake job or alignment. Its very irratating. Recently i switched to West El Cajon Automotive and they did a 40 point inspection along with a oil change and they found so many problems and janky work. They put 2 different drums on the back brakes which was causing me problems for about a year. I would always take it bake, they would fix it, then a week later it would always come back. The other day i noticed my coolant looked really brown. I took a look at it and realized that it was filled with rust. I took it to another place and they told me that whoever replaced my coolant diluted the shit out of it causing rust to build in my radiator hose and possibly damaging my NEW radiator that i got installed by La Mesa Automotive. They put the cheapest parts on your car. The rig stuff together to make it fit or work if they dont have a part. Everyone that works there is a crackhead not to mention the fact that they left a meth pipe in my car. Horrible mechanics! Horrible. Stay away from this place, I used to love this place. But now knowing they did all this janky work to my car i highly doubt i wil ever go back!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!! I had some work done on my truck back in feb and it recently wouldn't start. Brought it here and found out what the other guy said he did he didn't actually do. Scotty, Keven and the owner tooks such good care of my truck and really went out of their way to make sure everything else was good and my truck ran right. They are so awesome! I've had them work on 3 different cars, first time I was totally satisfied, second time I took a car in to find out why it was running so sluggish and $350 later they said the engine was just worn out @ 90,00 miles. Later that day I did a 5 minute search of the Internet on the the symptoms of my cars problems then bought a $6 can of MAFS cleaner, spent 5 mintutes spraying the sensor and presto ran like new. Last week I had them do an alignment, while watching the mechanic I was shocked to see him use a crescent wrench which keep slipping off the adjustment bolts rounding the heads off. Finally the lazy sob grabs a socket and a box wrench to finish one side only to repeat his idiocy on the next wheel. I was waiting for Mark to show up to chew his ass out but he was a no show. I can't for the life of me understand why the owner allows his morons to use such tools on people's investment, this isn't some 3rd world country were there's no resources. read more

I took my car into the dealer March 2016. I was surprised when I was told I needed 4 brake pads replaced. I went to La Mesa Automotive for a second opinion. At first I was told that it was surprising that all 4 pads would need to be replaced. I really wanted to trust him. After they examined the car I was told that he car needed new rotors and brakes. He seemed trustworthy but to this day so feel I was taken advantage of and that at 61000 miles the car should not need rotors and brakes. ( second time for brakes). Please do not go here. I just wanted a simple oil change and an alignment. They told me $40 for the oil change over the phone. Once i got there it was $80. At least be honest...I told him my car required 7 quarts of oil and the guy at the front( he has a snake tattoo) told me we can do 5 or 6 quarts? Doesn't even make sense, It actually kind of scared me... and its sad just because I'm a young woman he thinks I don't know any thing.He also wanted to diagnose my car.. he didn't tell me the price ( it was over $70) and I know all you do is hook up a code reader.. rip off.. When I left my car I received a phone call from the guy working at the front desk and he told me that my rear left lower control arms tabs have been broken. How does that even happen? He told me it would cost over $500 and he could get the part shipped in a few hours. He said it was impossible to do any alignment unless I got that part. So I said forget about it. I looked up the price of the lower rear control arm and it was only $22. Wow, $500 for something that only take two bolts and a few minutes.. So later that day my husband who is a welder/fabricator checks out the control arm and he said there was no rust or anything on it ( when apparently the guy said its been broken off). The guy working on my car obviously took a wrench and broke the tabs himself! There is no way it was like that. I don't even trust if he did my oil correctly. So, once I got my car back he said i was right about the 7 quarts of oil,ha ha of course i was!i know my car! My $80 oil change then came to $130... he didn't think i would ask why it increased. Well he said it was due to them looking at my alignment ( putting it up on the rack. something that takes a few minutes) WOW!!!! Please do not go here. You will be taken advantage of , especially if you are a woman and have a nice car.. they think you have all this extra money. Disgusting that people are like this. Years ago I visited Mark and his team, only because he bought out the small repair shop next door that I had gone to for years. I had my concerns, however they went away after my first visit. With two daughters still at home, we have four cars, and I seem to visit Mark and his team a lot. One time, my daughter took her car in for breaks, since they were "squeaking". Instead of Mark charging my daughter for rotors or new pads, he used a compressor and blew out the dust, which made the breaks quit "squeaking". Another time, my other daughter had a problem with her ignition. Mark came out and discovered she was doing something wrong, and explained to her how to correct it, hence, no more problem. Now those two stories would have been enough proof, this was an honest shop, however did I mention Mark refused to take any money either time. I own two Lexus (Lexi?) and I refuse to take them to the dealer, as long as Mark and his team are in business! Finding an honest mechanic, heck that is just plain AWESOME!!! read more
