Went here on a Tuesday around 2pm and there was no wait and I got seen immediately. In and out in 15 minutes for an oil change! Michael was super helpful and explained all the add ons to me without making me feel like I had to get anything. Super friendly service and they seemed thorough. They can't tell you there are coupons so you have to go to the website to check prior but I was able to get $15 off my oil change and it ended up being $107 for a full synthetic oil change. For the speed and efficiency and not having to wait hours at the dealership or drop off my cars, it was worth it. read more

I visit this location, hoping to top off my car with oil and fluid, and I left my wallet at home and didn't have any cash in person even though I was upfront with the workers that my car was having issues. They were very rude. I noticed that the workers were helping other customers and ignoring me because my car is in pretty bad shape and in a couple days I'll be purchasing a brand new car that most likely will need an oil change and I will not be booking into this location plus I work around the corner so this location is very convenient for me and I thought to try them out for the first time. Went in for an oil change and to have both fuel filters changed. Was quoted over $900. That is an absolutely ridiculous price. I said no thanks and all of a sudden the price lowered to $300 and change for oil change and only one fuel filter. Again I said no thanks. $156 for oil change. That was over 90 minutes ago. First and last time customer. Pulled into the bay and confusion began. Everything was a "Quick Sell". I was asked questions I knew nothing about but my bill kept increasing. I felt intimidated. Simple oil change on a Honda Passport with 16k was now $128 after $15 coupon. When completed I left without any record of the job. Got home and was greeted by dripping oil on my garage floor. Haven't had a bad experience, however Julio made me remember his name. Was shown cost of oil change prior to driving in. Once I was rung up, I asked about over $55 of added charges that were not shown prior. Once asking about said charges, Julio did not help resolve the issue, and became dismissive and rude. The oil change itself was okay. They kept trying to upsell me. I understand that's their job, but for someone who is unemployed and just trying to get by...it's pressure that is painful. Then, after driving away I started experiencing my car idling poorly (it hadn't previously) and stalling when stopped at a traffic light. I've been using the Valvoline oil change centers since we bought a new 2023 Teaverse and we had a few problems along the way using power tools when they should've. Anyway the other day I drove in to a facility the other day and asked if they would check my oil level. They answered yes but there was a $20 charge for doing so. I was SHOCKED by this. I said we always get our oil changes done there and no go ! They stuck with $20 charge. We'll, being the consumer and shadetree mechanic my whole life I told them I'll never be back with any of my 3 street cars and 2 offroad trucks. Valvoline can suck it !!! I visited Valvoline a few days ago for an oil change, and I'm just now getting around to writing this review. The manager (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was incredibly friendly and easy to talk to, making the experience feel genuine rather than transactional. The service was quick, and there was no pressure to upsell additional services, which I really appreciated. When I showed a coupon, the manager actually offered me a better deal and even threw in a free oil top-off--great value for the price! It's gestures like this that create loyal customers, and I'll definitely be back for future maintenance. I heard he's being transferred to another location, and I wish him all the best. Terrible experience, I came in for a simple oil change on my brand new vehicle. After leaving the shop my entire climate control system was not working. In addition the employees never reset my oil life so my car was still displaying service being needed. Apon returning to the shop the manager Jose was able to walk me through the process to remove the maintenance light. Regarding my climate control system, he said it must've been a software issue and nothing he could do. I'm now having to file a damage claim, take my brand new vehicle to a separate mechanic and have a diagnostic ran before the company could do anything. In the future I'll never be returning to this location and should've taken my car to the dealership where I purchase it. I have always taken my cars here for service and never had an issue until now. I came in because my car was leaking.They did an inspection they let me know they believe it was coming from the drain plug on the transmission. So I said , okay , go ahead and replace the drain plug and did the whole transmission service. The very next day it was still leaking took the car to the mechanic and he said there is a crack in the drain pan , which is right next to the drain plug. I did a claim spoke to the manager , and she was so disrespectful so ugly , her attitude and so rude. She already had made her decision and said , oh yeah , no , there was no crack. Some people forget where they come from and forget that if it wasn't for customers , they wouldn't have a job. Since she was so rude I will go to her boss. read more

I went in for an oil change and everything was fine... until it wasn't. On my way home from the oil change I thought I heard a scrape but then it stopped and I assumed it was coming from outside. I get down my street (that has a decent amount of bumps) and it got worse. I pulled up to my house and the ENTIRE splash guard was off my car!!! I freaked out and immediately had to drive back. The pro's were they were very sorry about that happening and put it back on for me and even showed me a video showing it was now secure. Originally I was only gonna get a 20% off for my next oil change but they ended up giving me a free oil change for next time. Still I wish this hadn't happened and even though they didn't see any damage I still feel a bit concerned. I've always come to Valvoline and haven't had any issues and I get that people make mistakes but a car is a big deal to me and isn't cheap so I'm glad they at least made it right and didn't just put it back on and send me on my way. Not sure they would have though if I didn't express that I was upset. Either way I'm grateful for the manager there who was willing to give me something for the inconvenience. read more

The most brain dead set of mechanics. Over tightening every bolt for my oil and front & rear differentials. Oil filter also was overnighted to the point were I had to put a screw driver through my old filter in order to get it off when it's only supposed to be a lil tighter than hand tight. read more

I came back, after a long time. I was in a hurry, the service was definitely not 15 minutes, however, it was a decent experience. I had a few fun chats with the assistant manager who was entertaining and made the time pass more quickly. I still like not having to get out of my car, essentially a drive thru oil change. It worked out pretty well. I really think they should discuss the next mileage before printing the sticker. Manufacturer does not recommend 3k mile changes, FYI. I'm a stickler for accuracy, and if I'm going to have a sticker, I'd like to have the correct manufacturer recommended mileage listed. Recommend familiarizing the staff with the Yelp check in discount. That would be helpful not to have to "prove it." That's my two cents. Happy holidays Valvoline staff members. read more

And then when they finally get you in the bay, they don't keep track of who has been waiting the longest and serve out of order. I've been coming to Valvoline for routine maintenance for the past few years ever since a friend recommended it, and the La Mesa shop is the closest to me. First of all, the employees here have always been very kind and welcoming to me (and so far, that's even been consistent across other Valvoline locations as well, but I digress). They answer any questions I have and show me the soiled parts they tell me I need to replace (e.g., filters, blown lights, etc.) so I can make an informed decision about the services I want. I also really like that Valvoline uses Carfax to keep track of the maintenance you perform. Lastly, every time I come in, the employees always seem positive and like they take pride in their work. They're a bit pricier than where I used to go before moving to Southern California but the service makes it worth it. I particularly wanted to shoutout the manager, Arturo, for being extremely helpful and demonstrating a commitment to honest service my last two visits. Back in December 2024, I got an oil change and after a few days, I noticed a small oil leak under my car. After the holidays, I went back to the La Mesa shop and explained the issue to Arturo, and he got me fixed right up at no charge. He replaced the drain plug and even redid the oil change to make up for any lost oil. During my most recent visit in April 2025, I needed a brake light replaced, but it appeared the casing surrounding the bulb had been broken at some point. I went on my way and planned to get it fixed elsewhere, but before I could even research other auto shops, Arturo called me and offered to replace the casing at no charge since Valvoline was the last to touch it. Sure enough, they called me back once the part arrived at the shop a week or two later and Arturo and a co-manager named Sergio personally replaced it for me. To be clear, the point of this review is not to highlight mistakes because that's just a part of running a business and working with humans; nobody's perfect and mistakes are expected. The point of this review is to highlight that management at the La Mesa Valvoline store are honest and own up to their mistakes and act quickly to remedy those mistakes, which is the real measure of professionalism and high quality service. Highly recommend this Valvoline location and will continue coming here for routine maintenance. read more

My husband came for an oil change and it turned into them calling the police on him because they "thought " he was hiding something in his car. they took his glove compartment apart and thought it had something illegal in it!!! Take your car anywhere but Valvoline. They broke an overflow hose on my car and just told me to pull over in their parking lot and have my car towed to a repair shop - at 4:45pm on a Friday! Luckily, I was able to drive my car to Big O Tires just down the street and the owner repaired it for me free of charge because of the poor treatment by Valvoline. And they gave me ride home and had it done early the next morning because I mentioned needing to pick up my cousin at the airport. I filed a complaint with customer service and received a call from Valvoline's district manager, Schaffer, who was nowhere near the shop when it happened yet claimed the hose was broken when I arrived, and coolant was spraying out of the bottom of my car even though the shop supervisor showed me the piece of broken hose they found under my car in the bay right after they opened the air filter lid - which was coincidently right were the hose was broken! These employees don't know what they are doing, and Schaffer is just the condescending cover up guy. The whole time I was on the phone with him, he talked over me and yelled at me. He cares nothing about customer service, correcting staff's mistakes or doing right by the customer so contacting customer service is useless. read more
