Be prepared to get "nickel and dimed". I asked a question about my bill and the lady that handles the final bill said "Well nothing is free" with an attitude. On top of that, I received a bill 5 MONTHS AFTER MY LAST SERVICE that said the total was over 90 days overdue. I had never even received a bill up to this time. Plus, I was very confused since I spent a substantial amount of money out of pocket and settled out my bill the last time I was in the office (many, many months earlier). The new bill was small and just the fact that they billed me so many months after for such a small amount was very tacky. I would give more stars if I could! The review you read below about the entire staff being wonderful... its so true. From the time I made my first phone call to La Mesa Dental all the way thru everyone that worked on me along the way... amazing! Dr Lowe was incredible... so funny that it made me forget what I was there for... and want to go back for more dental work just so I could laugh again. I'm being entirely serious! You could tell he was in the office and where he was by the sound of laughter coming from whichever area he was in. He did an amazing job on my filling. I had initially gone to another dental office (RSD Dental) and they told me I needed a root canal and had periodontal disease. They gave me a price tag with their in house insurance of 3300$ worth of work I needed. I was weary so I made an appointment at La Mesa Dental... Dr Lowe looked at my xrays... examined my teeth... and was honest. He said not only did I not have peridontal disease... but I also didnt need a root canal and crown. I just needed my broken filling replaced. Just as I had suspected. So I made an appointment for a week later and got my work done. I got my cleaning done by Versera? Sorry I can't remember her name. But she was great. She did a wonderful job and I have my next appointment with her already scheduled. If you want to go to a dental office you can trust to be honest then this is the place for you. You may walk in nervous... but you will leave with a smile. I highly recommend Dr Lowe for all of your dental work. I also got the New Dental Choice insurance plan.. you can do it in minutes online. For a single person its 8$ a month, family was 10$ a month... You can cancel at any time. Basically with that insurance I paid 70$ for my cleaning... and 170$ for my replacement filling. It was a big one on my molar. You can look up the prices for every type of dental work on the new dental choice site. La Mesa Dental strictly abides by those prices. Even if I had needed the treatment the crappy rsd dental (stay away! Beware!) had told me I immediately needed.... then it would have been 1250$ less at La Mesa Dental. Thank Jesus, I finally found a legit dentist. I have lived in San Diego for 12 years now and have had a horrible time finding a quality dentist. I have been through about 5 of them in that time and they either totally SUCKED at their job or were complete crooks. I have horrible teeth. Beautiful but horrible. I am prone to cavities that quickly lead to root canals and I have severe anxiety about the dentist bc like I said, I have had some that sucked bad. I finally broke down due to knowing I needed another root canal along with some other fillings and made an appointment with Dr. Campanella after reading the reviews here. He confirmed me needing a root canal and since I was in a ton of pain, he got me into my endodontist Dr. Wei that same day. He was a life saver getting me that appointment. I followed up with him to finish the crown and this was when I knew I could really judge his work bc I have some ugly crowns in my mouth, that totally don't fit and look like crap. I knew they made them in the office, which I had never experienced, so I was nervous about that. I knew he was awesome after he gave me my shot and I couldn't even feel it, he was so gentle. Then he carefully and meticulously prepped my tooth. My crown was made, was gorgeous and at first was hitting on my bottom tooth. I seem to have this problem and every dentist argues with me about it, as if I am lying. But Dr. Campanella proceeded to make a simple adjustment which totally fixed the problem easily. Usually, with past dentists, it's like 15 mins of adjusting and I still leave feeling like it isn't sitting right on my tooth. So this was a huge relief for me. Dr. Campanella is awesome. All the hygienists are super nice as well. I am someone that uses dentists frequently and know when they are good...trust me, he's great. I have finally found my dentist! read more

I take back everything negative I said in my prior review. Not only did they get me in for a cleaning in a matter of 1 business day, they offered to retroactively apply the "new dental choice" discount on my previous bill to credit the cleaning. Total cost: 2 bucks. As far as the cleaning, the hygienist was extremely nice, seemed genuinely interested in her work, and was accommodating to my sensitive gums. They offered to put me on another "ASAP" list for my next cleaning, and I'll certainly be back. I also want to mention that prior to letting them know that I had the discount program, the office manager came to me offering me a discount of her own because she knew that I was just in for x-rays and an exam and didn't have insurance. She seemed to be concerned that I was paying so much, and offered to help in a way that the office would allow. I certainly felt bad for my last review after such a generous gesture. Pretty good. Billing is a bit misleading as my insurance said they would pay 100% of preventative, but then claimed that La Mesa Dental's X-rays were above and beyond the normal set of X-rays. La Mesa Dental said they prefer full X-rays rather than the bare bones X-rays. Just would have been nice for La Mesa Dental to tell me ahead of time so I could have made the decision to get the bare bones X-rays as I have never had any problems with my teeth, and would not expect one to suddenly appear. Took my kids to a new dentist office to get check ups, I had new insurance from changing jobs so we had to pick a new dentist. The first dentist office I took them to on two separate days told me they both had eight cavities each, don't think so! I took them to another dentist and this time I was told they had six cavities each. Still I wasn't at all convinced this was the case. Both dentists wanted to drill and fill immediately, need to get this done right now they told us. They even started bringing in the tools too do the job. I told both dentists I'll get a second opinion thank you which would actually be a third opinion. None of the dentist knew I was getting second opinions and in this case I'm very glad I got a third opinion. My kids have exceptional oral hygiene so my gut was telling me something is not right with these dentist offices. A friend referred me to La Mesa Dental, they are the greatest most honest dentist on the planet my friend told me. My friend couldn't stop taking about how great they are. They took my insurance so I made appointments. Again I didn't tell the dentist I'd been to two other dental offices before the check up. After x-rays and the check ups were completed, again on seperate days the dentist told me my daughter had one very tiny cavity and we could schedule it in but get her in right away or ASAP. My son had zero cavities... GRRR... was my reaction... You think I didn't want to go to the other dentist offices right then and there, oh boy did I! But thankfully I didn't do that. La Mesa Dental, thanks for providing honest assessments, thanks for having integrity, thanks for being a class act and standing out in your industry! Thanks for not being a fill and drill lowlife dentist office. Can't thank you guys enough! Your professionalism is beyond outstanding, your number one and my kids are highly grateful too! I never thought I'd say this, but one of the things I'm sad about moving IS THAT I WON'T BE ABLE TO COME HERE ANYMORE....I gotta find a new dentist again! All my life, my whole family has only ever gone to 1 dentist. Each experience was unpleasant, but no one likes going to the dentist, right? So I never bothered to see what else was out there. That is, until last year. Last year, I moved to La Mesa and had the absolute pleasure of getting my teeth cleaned here--YES! I found a dentist I actually liked going to!!! They were so detailed and extensive with my cleaning--it took over an hour. Holy cow!!! Good thing I didn't have anywhere I needed to be! My old cleanings didn't even last 30 minutes. Another thing I really liked was that they even did a perio charting to see how my gums were and what the risk of periodontal disease was, something I never even knew existed because my old dentist never mentioned it! I've been back a couple times since my first cleaning, due to various reasons and had the pleasure of meeting both Dr. Campanella and Dr. Low. Dr. Campanella is just a nice old man and exudes grandfatherly qualities. He took really good care of me when I was having TMJ problems. Dr. Low is just hilarious. I saw him today for my teeth grinding. I'm not sure if you can ask for specific dental hygienists, but today I had Vasana for my cleaning (she was super duper detailed and really took her time!!!!), Myra for my polishing and flossing (she's a jokester!), and Amanda for my sealing (a real sweetheart). From the get go walking through the door till the moment I left, they showed the upmost knowledge and professionalism I have never experienced in a dental office in the state of California. After calling about a toothache, they squeezed me in for an appointment on short notice with no hesitation, which I was so thankful for. The day of my appointment, I was warmly welcomed by the staff, and my pain was treated by Dr. Low. I waited several months to write this review because my dental issues usually come up months after I leave the dentist's chair. I am happy to say I am dental issue free thanks to La Mesa Dental Group! I highly, HIGHLY recommend them, especially if you have a phobia of dentists. I've had some pretty bad experiences with dentists in the past. In fact, the last time I had to have a cavity filled, my previous dentist had to go back and touch it up again because they did it incorrectly. The same dentist also told me I had 4 cavities that needed to be fixed ASAP. That was almost two years ago and I've been scared to go to the dentist ever since, although I've had no problems with the 4 teeth that were apparently about to fall dead out of my mouth. Who knew that La Mesa Dental was out there waiting for me? The office is so clean and welcoming. It doesn't feel like those other sterile torture chambers that characterize most dentist's offices. They having hanging mobiles in every exam room, which I found to be strangely soothing. I've seen both Dr. Lowe and Dr. Campanella, completely different personalities, but both make you feel at ease. Dr. Lowe is very humerous and outgoing. Dr. Campanella is much more focused on his work. Dr. Lowe did a quick assessment of my teeth and took X-rays. Wouldn't you know it, my 4 X-rays had dwindled down to 1!!! Perhaps I have miraculous self-healing teeth... or perhaps my last dentist was just full of it. My gut feeling tells me it was the second one. Dr. Lowe showed me my cavity and explained what was going on, but it didn't take too much explanation, my tooth was actually visibly discolored and it was more than a little disgusting. Dr. Campanella got me all fixed up and there is no more discoloration to my tooth. You can't even see the filling. Best of all, I have no sentitivity in that tooth! And the cost was very reasonable! Friendly, efficient and caring. Previous dentist (for over five years) was MIA. You spend all of your time with hygienists and xray techs - less than a minute with him. La Mesa Dental folks are nice, you get in ON TIME, both Dr. C and Dr. L are friendly, chatty and attentive. The hygienists are all very sweet and keep the appointment moving. Highly recommend this dentist office especially Dr Low. He has a great sense of humor, is direct, knows his stuff, and does great work. I called yesterday to get an appt to fix a broken veneer. They squeezed me in today and I walked out with a perfect smile. They recently went out of network for First Dental Health insurance, but after cheating on them with another office and hating it, I decided to come back with my tail btw my legs. I have been a patient at La Mesa Dental for quite a few years now and have been extremely happy with my care (even with multiple cavities and an anxiety filled root canal later). All of the hygienists I've had over the years were wonderful, but Vasana has always been my go to. She is so friendly and explains everything while always making sure I was comfortable with everything she was doing. Unfortunately I just found out that due to a change in insurance (new job, new insurance) they are no longer able to treat me. I got married and have new insurance there for I need new Dr's I had a huge list to choose from and I went to YELP for help. After narrowing it down to 3 places I decided to go with La Mesa Dental and I'm so glad I did. They have seen my daughter and Now myself and I LOVE IT THERE! I booked my husband an appt and I'm sure he will love it to. The staff is AMAZING and I loved both Drs. They gave me bad news about the Dentist have been going to for the last 10 yrs and showed me some of his root canal work....needless to say a lot of it has to be re done. Her did NOT do a good job . Extremely overpriced. Quotes only with no insurance coverage. $85 for a consultation with no xrays. Once there was quoted $3800 for a dental implant and $2000 for a crown. I came here for a second opinion because I thought the 1st dentist was ripping me off boy was I wrong. The staff was friendly but thats about it. Just had my first exam full x-rays, and cleaning here. Promptly got me in at my appointment time. Dentist went thru and made notes of some old filling and root canals, but didn't try to sell me on a bunch of work. They hygienist REALLY took her time and got my teeth clean. Other dentists I've used in the past rushed thru the cleaning and upsold everything from un needed fillings to gum irrigation and beyond. Even the tooth brush I was given at La Mesa Dental was a real tooth brush. Not the $1.00 marketing pos that couldn't possibly clean teeth given away at most places. I have been going to La Mesa Dental for almost two years now. I have had a total of 4 or 5 appointments and two of those were for deep cleanings. Prior to my first deep cleaning appointment (which was a recent), I was so nervous. I have had a deep cleaning done before at my prior dentist office and it was a nightmare and extremely painful. I avoided it going forward at all costs. But, at La Mesa Dental, Ann made BOTH of my deep cleaning appointments comfortable and guess what, not painful. WOW! I can honestly say that I no longer fear the dentist. All of the staff at La Mesa Dental are amazing. Everyone is kind, considerate, social and always in great spirits. I just went here for the first time as a patient this morning and I am SOOOO excited about this place. I have never been afraid of the dentist and have always had a great experience with my east coast dentist, so coming here I had expectations. This office far surpassed them from the minute I walked in. I was there for a new patient exam, but due to a cancellation I was able to get in for a cleaning instead of waiting until December!! From the receptionist to the hygienist and finally the dentist, everyone was so professional, friendly and awesome! I have a few teeth that are super sensitive due to recessed gums and Sara (hygienist) did such a thorough cleaning with NO pain. My teeth feel fabulous. Wicked funny Dr. Lowe came to see me for my final exam after and said everything was great, even verifying that the 'loose' filling another Dentist I saw for a cleaning six months prior in SD had said needed to be fixed, did not. I look forward to going back for my next cleaning and am happy to provide this 5 star review on them. I almost don't want to tell anyone about them so they don't get too busy, but this gem needs to be shared and the entire staff deserves the kudos :-) read more

My daughters have been going here for the past 7 years and they are consistently pleasant. The receptionist makes a wonderful first impression with her kindness and welcoming attitude --- much needed when the parents have a phobia of dentists. The hygienists and dentists are also wonderful. My daughter had a great time today - which would've never ever been a possibility when I was young. I witnessed two nervous young patients in the waiting room and the staff were understanding and caring.
