Been coming here since I graduated out of pediatric dental care, and still actually enjoy going to the dentist... even if the mouth wash isn't bubble gum flavored and I don't get a prize for not having cavities. But in all seriousness, this place is top notch. Convenient emails and text messages with appointment reminders, making it easy to add to your mobile calendar. Friendly staff greets you and gets you into your appointment right on time. Hygienists are personable and remember everything from when you saw them six months ago, but get the job done in a timely manner. Dr. Camp and Dr. Lowe are some of the cheeriest people I have ever met and really put the cherry on top of a great visit. I have always been impressed with their service/staff, etc, but more so today when I didn't realize I had a longer appointment due to x-rays and was planning to go straight to work right after. The whole team was ready to rock to get me out of there as close to the normal time as possible, while still doing a pristine cleaning, x-ray and check. The initially irritated office manager has found her smile. Now she matches Dr. Low and the rest of his staff. While I detest dentists, I cannot resist "the other Rob Low". He is a non alarmist and never makes disparaging remarks about neglected oral hygiene (who couldn't floss more?). He also never criticizes the work of previous dentists (like a new contractor pointing out all the "problems" caused by previous contractors). I suspects he knows this causes stress. Pleasant, organized, no pressure office, gentle, thorough hygienists and a skillful, low drama dentist. I couldn't ask for better. read more

This place is sneaky. They did not inform me that the follow up, a month after the first teeth cleaning, was considered another teeth cleaning. So today when I had my teeth cleaned they informed me it was $70. I informed them that I was told it was a follow up and that I wouldn't be charged for that. So I canceled my appointments and will be going some where else. I don't recommend this place at all. At first, I did but this is some sneaky business stuff. The dental assistant was horrible. He was cold, and claimed he knew what was going on with my dental situation but then didn't give his input at all. Then he took an x-ray without even asking which turned out to be completely unnecessary and cost me 65$ in theory. The doctor however was very nice and didn't charge me for it but their assistants are awful there. The lady at the front desk is very nice though. read more

Everyone there is very nice, even after they overcharged me almost every time I went in. I requested that they just do what my insurance would cover and they always said no problem. Yet I got a bill after every visit. The most recent one is for over $500 and they are sending me late fees even though it was just for my family to have their teeth cleaned. Which every other dentist I have been too has been zero out of pocket. I have called repeatedly to take care of this and they are very pleasant when they tell me it's all taken care of. Yet I keep getting bills with additional late charges on them. I'm so done with this place. read more

Best cleaning I've had. Sarah does a great job of being very thorough while keeping my comfort in mind (my jaw can't stay open for very long so she gave me frequent breaks so I could uncramp my jaw, frequently let me stop and use the spit sucker so I didn't feel like I was drowning and was kind to my exposed root area which can be painful). Dr Low is also very down to earth and thorough on his exam. Highly recommend this dental office. read more

I have to start by saying that doctor Low and almost every hygienist that I ever saw here in the past 4-5 years has been amazing, very professional. But BEWARE of the financial/billing department. It is not the first time that I've encountered extra charges on my bill. If you have an insurance like Delta Dental and are a patient, La Mesa dental must abide to the contracted fees that they have with the insurance. For example, they can't charge the patient more for a procedure than what the insurance agreed with them on. For instance, La Mesa dental might submit a fee to the insurance of $100 for a cleaning. However, they have a contracted allowance of $70. So they only get $70. If you are 100% covered through your insurance, la Mesa dental should not bill you for the remainder $30. Today, 08-06-20, I called because they are charging me $20 for the added expenses their office has incurred due to COVID-19. According to Delta Dental, they cannot and should not be charging patients this fee. It's not acceptable, they need to abide to the regulations and contracts that they have with Delta Dental. Recently, Delta decided to meet them half way and pay for half of that charge, to help them out. However, they should not be charging the patient for the remainder balance or any other Covid expenses. For me, this was the straw that broke the camel back. I have had numerous bill statements, where I saw them overcharging me for procedures that they should not. Monica, is the financial representative at the dental office whom I spoke to today. She told me to look elsewhere for a dental office. read more

I must add my own kudos to La Mesa Dental Group. Our previous dentist was getting way too expensive for my husband and me, so we decided it was time to shop around. After reading all the positive reviews on Yelp, we decided to give La Mesa Dental Group a try. When my husband first called them and said we don't have insurance, they recommended we buy a dental discount plan called New Dental Choice. It costs only $10 per month for both of us, was super easy to join over the phone, and immediately enabled us to get our teeth X-rayed and cleaned for roughly 30% off of their regular price. My husband went in for his first visit, knowing (from our previous dentist) that he needed a root canal. Dr. Low confirmed it after doing X-rays and they set up an appointment for two weeks later. He came home with a glowing report. And, believe me, he is VERY picky. He said the waiting room has a great vibe: Upbeat music, comfy seating, and the other two waiting patients commented that they loved coming there. Pretty good, considering they were at the dentist, right? He said everyone working there was great, and it was obvious after a short amount of time that Dr. Low knew what he was doing. He also had his teeth cleaned the same day, and the teamwork in this office was exceptional. Two weeks later, when he had the root canal, he had absolutely no pain during or after the procedure. (Dr. Low works very hard to guarantee a painless experience.) On his third visit, two weeks after that, he was fitted for a crown, and they put it in on the same day! They have this machine that fabricates the crown right then and there, and it is so precise that the fit is perfect. In the two months since then, there have been no problems with the crown, so he is very happy. As soon as we can afford it, my husband will be going back for a crown on another tooth. Oh, and the cost? About $1500 total, for X-rays, cleaning, root canal, and crown, using our new discount plan. The plan has already paid for itself for the next 18 months! (Our previous dentist quoted us more than twice that much.) I went for MY first visit in June 2013. I got to meet a lot of people that day, as they have a specialist for each process: X-rays, cleaning, and polishing were done by three different hygienists, all very efficient but personable too. Not to mention Dr. Low himself, who put me at ease right away with his charm and sense of humor. I went in there fully expecting to have cavities to fill and possibly a root canal and a replacement crown. Dr. Low said I had no cavities, my old crown still has some mileage left on it, and there may be a root canal in my future but as long as I feel no pain we can deal with that later. He is VERY conservative about treatment, which is a new experience for me. I'm used to coming out of the dentist with sticker shock. I'm not saying that cost is the main reason we started going to La Mesa Dental, but it's a big one. The MAIN reason we will continue to go to La Mesa Dental is that they surpassed our expectations in EVERY area of their operation, from the waiting room to the staff and hygienists to Dr. Low himself. We feel that our future dental health is in very good hands and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new dentist. read more

I switched dentists after being with my previous dentist for six years. I couldn't afford the high costs anymore. I found this dentist office through Yelp and decided to try it since it is a preferred provider through Delta Dental, which means they don't charge more than Delta accepts as an appropriate fee. I was definitely nervous about going to a new dentist especially since I knew that I had some work that needed to be done according to the previous dentist. I had no reason to be nervous at all. The office staff is friendly and efficient. The dentist (I saw Dr. Campanella) and assistant were nice and explained everything. Best of all, the office is very conservative and does not recommend unnecessary treatments. I had two fillings and paid a grand total of $40. My recent cleaning was $14 after insurance. These would have cost hundreds of dollars at my previous dentist. I am confident that I am getting great care here at a much more affordable price. They are busy and you may have to schedule ahead a few months but it is well worth it. I highly recommend this office! read more

I'm so happy that my friend referred me to this office and Dr. Low. The staff is friendly, patient, and knowledgable. The facilities are clean, modern, and have new technology. This is the first office I'd been to before, that does all digital x-rays and can see them in front of you on a flat screen! I love the accuracy of the images and the graphics capabilities and the markings they make, etc. I learn something every time I go. Dr. Low has a great personality and sense of humor...and most importantly knows his stuff. I love that he's conservative in work that HAS TO BE DONE. He wasn't trying to sell me on work to do, like I experienced previously with other dentists that wanted to do a lot. I was expecting needed work, so was in shock that he said I didn't NEED anything except the usual cleaning. He noted what teeth to watch and thoroughly explained things while looking at the x-rays on screen. Due to a change in insurance, I had to try another dentist who was in its network. I was sad that his office didn't take it. So, I went to the other dentist for the 6 month exam and x-rays. They didn't have time for a cleaning that visit. I had an awful experience there from start to finish and was told by the receptionist, not the dentist, what needed to be done. It left me confused since nothing was said to me about it during the exam (what he would do, thinks I need done, and when). Also she said that they don't show up on the x-rays. Huh? It all didn't feel right and was fishy, so made an appt. with Dr. Low for a second opinion. They fit me in with a cancellation and it was a great visit. He and his staff were very supportive when I told them what had happened. He examined my teeth and saw nothing wrong that absolutely needed to be fixed. Three of the teeth the other guy wanted to do filings on looked fine. The other that fell off, he said I can leave alone for now, since it's not problematic and out of view. So, I don't need ANY work done right now. It's not necessary. I then had a cleaning at Dr. Low's office, since I decided I'm not returning to the other. I will just have to pay for Dr. Low somehow, because it's worth it. Honesty, integrity, professionalism, and a friendly place. read more

I think everyone is friendly here at this office, but I have mixed feelings about the dental care. They did a great job fixing one of my porcelain crowns and I had little to no pain during the procedure. However, they insist on doing a full set of x-rays every year -- which I think is excessive. They told me I could sign a waiver to decline x-rays, but if I did that too often, I might be dismissed as a patient. I feel it's just a way for them to claim more insurance payments instead of an honest concern for my health. read more

I've had such great experiences over the last few years with La Mesa Dental, I decided it was time to finally write a review! From the moment you walk in the office you feel welcomed and at ease. The office is clean and inviting, and the front office staff is always friendly. They've helped me answer insurance questions multiple times and have been great at rescheduling me when I've had to cancel last minute. I rarely wait more than a few minutes to see the hygienist. I also really appreciate the demeanor of the dentists here. They don't push services on you and make sure you feel heard and your questions are answered. I was very disappointed in the insurance coordinator, office staff. The last time i was there, the wrong insurance was billed. I then gave them the correct one. This visit, i still had the same insurance but hadnt been there in over 6 months, the office didnt ask me if i still had the same insurance or anything, and this to me is some of their responsibility to ensure patients arent stuck with unnecessary bills, i ended up with a $400 bill when i have insurance because they said they didnt take an HMO. I feel the insurance department should ask these questions, just to be sure their has not been any changes, this ensures better customer service, most places do this. This is a great dental office! My wife and I both went to La Mesa Dental on different days and had the same experience. We are in San Diego for the winter and we both needed cleanings badly. We actually found these guys on YELP and they accepted our dental insurance, so we both got appts quickly! Flexibilty pays here, we got on the cancellation list and were seen in a few weeks. This busy office is very professional and organized, and still feels like a small town homey office. Sue cleaned both our teeth perfectly. By far the most thorough cleaning I have had in years. Dr Campanelli checked us both out and sent us on our way! There was no pressure for any services we did not need which was really nice as this seems to be the way alot of dental offices now operate(you want fries with that? come on sure you do....you need fries!!!now!!or else) All in all a great experience, which says alot for a trip to the dentist. read more

I was referred to La Mesa Dental Group by my endodontist. My last visit to the dentist for a checkup ended with the evil dentist handing me an estimate for a couple thousand dollars, and they were going to max out my insurance for the year. They said I had 4 cavities and a bunch of other work needed. Dr. Campanella reviewed the xrays from the old dentist and stated I needed a deep cleaning and that was it. My bill was $107. AMAZING! They fit me in to help fix a temporary crown that kept falling off and I learned more and felt more comfortable in that 20 minutes than I ever have in all my dental experiences.
