This place is one of the best places I like to grab ice cream with friends and family. I really enjoy the Elotes and the flavored waters they have (pineapple is my favorite). My favorite thing from here might just be the Strawberry popsicle that has an actual strawberry on it. Chai K totally showed me the best of round lake and Im impress. This place was mexican ice cream heaven. It was how basket robbin use to be with way over 31 favors and all so so good it was hard not to try everything. Between the Roche, bubble gum( yes the bubble gum was good, it was like the superman without the gum),walnut, pineapple coconut,and my favorite... strawberry cheesecake. come here all the time to get elotes, normally pretty good and quick about it. this time they were the complete oposite, they told me 10 minutes and they'd have it out for me. 20 minutes goes by and STILL no elote. If you don't speak Spanish, give it up. I stood in line for 15 minutes waiting to be helped, but they kept helping people behind me. It's 25 degrees out and I'm going out for ice cream. The things I do for Yelp! ;) My husband and I had just been out for an Indian lunch and I saw flags with ice cream on them on Rollins Road. (What's more perfect than ice cream after an Indian meal, if you know what I mean.) I said, "Hey, pull over, ice cream!" Since he's a smart man, he obeyed (ha!), and I was excited to see a brightly colored, fairly large ice cream parlor before me. And then I was over the moon to see they sell paletas, or ice pops, as well. I've never had one and it's on my list, as these are no ordinary ice cream truck popsicles! First, let me say, this shop has been opened a mere 4 days and apparently their first weekend was hoppin. Today, being an icy one, only gluttons for punishment like me and the hubs were indulging in anything colder than we already were! Turns out, we are pretty smart, cuz this is some delicious dessert we have here. Let me explain... Paletas are basically popsicles on steroids! They are of Latin American origin and popularity, and are what I would call gourmet popsicles, comprised of either a water or cream base, and bumped up with stunningly real and artfully arranged visible fruits, nuts, and other such flavorful items. They are BEAUTIFUL and this joint has 40 FLAVORS, not to mention the other coolers of ice cream flavors available in neighboring freezers, all of which are available to sample first. And they were delicious- and unique! Flavors like: Tequila, rice with cinnamon (actual rice grains in the ice cream), snickers, a tropical PINE NUT, tamarind and many, many more unique as well as traditional flavors. I was amazed at the variety of flavors, how gorgeous they looked, how creamy and delicious they tasted, and that they're all made there in house. Wow! They must have an army of frosty elves back there working their jingle bells off 24/7. The young woman behind the counter was friendly and patient, and could see how excited I was. She let us sample about 6 flavors, and each one was yummy and special. We were very impressed. One scoop was $1.90 but it was closer to 3 scoops, I'd say, a very generous size. And these beautifully vivid and artful paletas, a bargain at $1.50. I will be back to pick up a bunch at those prices. They looked sooooo good. When you walk in, you will know what I mean. I don't get super excited for ice cream, but my hubby does, and we were both agog. I'd really like to give it 5 stars, but since it's so new, I like to wait and make sure the standards are maintained, but they're off to a bangin' start. There is ample seating and bright lighting, but it's CASH ONLY, so come prepared. They offer paletas, ice cream, juices, smoothies and even other items like nachos and such. My husband saw a really interesting looking dessert being made and was intrigued. There were also fruit flavors I'd never heard of- and I mean the fruit itself! "Mamey" (pronounced ma-MAY), tasted like cantaloupe to me, for those curious... This is a fantastic addition to the Round Lake area. It's in an extremely underwhelming strip mall that is nothing to look at at all, but they offer delicious and unusual frozen desserts that will surely beckon you to sample and buy, even if it IS Arctic temps outside. I always want to try something new when I enter, and the servers are incredibly nice and always let you try the flavors you would like.
