I wish this restaurant was around when I was working at NMB City Hall. A quick but delicious meal can be found at this hidden gem. Though previously located in North Miami, it is now found on West Dixie Highway across the street from the Spanish Monastery. The pan con bistec is sooo good, freshly and quickly made and affordable. When I am in town visiting, this is my go-to place for a quick breakfast with cuban toast and coffee. It is a shop located on a corner so you have to be mindful for people making quick stops in attempts to get to there parking lot. The restaurant is not very big but offers tables to eat inside or outsider, or you can order your coffee only or coffee and meal to go from the window. I came here with six other people. The lady was so confused with our orders, we had to repeat everything like four times. I got a carne asada with moros and sweet plantains. I squeezed so much lime on my plate to try to get some flavor in there. The rice was very very hard, as were the plantains. My mom, as one of her sides got tostones. They gave her two tostones... Not bad but I'm half Nicaraguan so I know my good fritanga places. Now that I live in Sunny Isles this is the closest Fritanga for me. The food was good but lord have mercy! The lady who took care of us kept messing up. I think she was a little deaf too because I kept telling her things and she wouldn't listen ‍ but she was nice. The cacao was good, carne asada could've have a little more flavor but Gallo pinto was good. The queso frito was huge! I'll give it another try, maybe on my cheat day. read more

I only rated a 3 stars because of the horrible service, everything else is fine. I come here everyday for cafe con leche and toastada. I love the food and the coffee is usually to my liking, but if you don't speak Spanish, be prepared to sit and wait while you watch them take care of everyone else who got in line at the window after you. You would think because I'm here EVERYDAY it would make a difference, but absolutely not. It's the same 2 ladies who see me all the time and still can't show me any respect. Not even a Bueno Dias. Great Nicaraguan cuisine. This place serves up hearty fare to a blue-collar crowd. Their pork dishes and sandwiches are superb. Ironically, the only bad thing I've ordered at La Minuta is the "La Minuta", - a bland, dry deep fried fish sandwich. The guy behind the counter gave me non-verbal clues that it sucked when I ordered it. Stuff like eye-rolling and vomit pantomimes. But sometimes subtlety skims right over my silly little head. The sofrito here is very good. Sometimes we buy a little bit to take home. The service is fast and friendly. I only drop in on the joint a couple times a year and they always remember me. If my husband goes in alone they ask where I am. I guess I'm the only gringa that goes there. Or it could be that I tend to be provocatively dressed when I roll up to the La Minuta counter. Family own Nicaraguan joint that's been In North Miami for along time. Good place to go for lunch. They have pre made food for a quick pick up on you lunch break. I like there Cuban sandwich. What I like about it that they put real roast pork on it and heat the ham and cheese on the griddle. Then they put it all together and then put it on the press. I hate Cuban sandwiches that are cold in the middle! For 7 dollars you will be fat and happy with there pre made food. I like the roast pork and the ox tails. Went to La Minuta for lunch today. Location is not necessarily appealing, but once inside the restaurant has a homie feeling. Clean and well organize. Somebody was ready to take our order the minute we walk in. I had carne con papas (beef stew with potatoes), gallo pinto and tajadas (rice and beans and fried green plantain). My boyfriend ordered ground beef, gallo pinto and tajadas. And for $2 we also ordered fried cheese. Yummy! Food was tasty. No grease. And portions were huge. read more
