My favorite Mexican food place in Berkeley. The mole burrito is my go to especially when picking up food to go. The mole has a rich slightly sweet taste. Their ingredients are fresh. The portion size is great. If you eat the whole thing you'll be stuffed. If you haven't gone for this option yet definitely give it a try. Overall the restaurant is pretty small. There are a couple of tables. If you are coming in a group greater than four I would recommend getting food to go and eating it elsewhere. There is a back parking lot. read more

I had vegetarian burrito with guacamole and lettuce added. The burrito was wrapped in foil which made it easier to eat. It's a pretty large size and I couldn't finish it. The rice was really good, but the overall burrito wasn't the best. It wasn't as warm as I wanted it to be and it didn't have a good taste. The chips and guacamole are really good. I was here last night for a quick dinner. Ordered a mole guajillo burrito with pork since I don't remember visiting any other place that offers mole guajillo. It was tomato-y and good, but not exactly remarkable as I remember. I'm writing this review, however, for their salsa. I didn't try their green salsa, but the red salsa here is a must try! Their red salsa tastes like the seaweed in a bowl of miso soup - with a kick, of course! It was good. I'll be back to try other things, and this salsa. If only I knew how they made this. And before I forget, they have a number of choices for cookies as well. And they also serve the cocktail which if I remember correctly is called Michoacan which you don't see often. read more

Grilled fish tacos were tasty but way overpriced ($4.25). The filet was nicely presented on the plate on a bed of perfectly pressed flour tortillas and garnished with fresh salsa. I also got the specialty burrito: Chicken Mole Pablano ($7.50) which was somewhat of a disappointment. It had a little bit too much cinnamon and overwhelmed each bite with an extra kick of sweetness. And on a non-food note, bathrooms are around the back and requires a key ...and surprisingly clean! A big plus after coming from our Yosemite trip and being deprived of bathrooms with running water. Hard to say I would come back unless I was in the San Pablo Ave area. La Burrita is still my preference for a quick burrito in Berkeley. read more

My go-to spot for Mexican food during lunch. The prices are a little steep but it's to be expected for Berkeley. The staff are friendly and the food is good. I once asked for a wet burrito (not on the menu) and they whipped it up for me (unlike another nearby Taqueria that I asked once). It's very much a "family" feel when you step into this place and I like that. The patio seating is nice, but the indoors seating is limited and gets cramped when a line starts to form. I generally take my order to-go or sit on the patio when the weather's nice. I don't like that they nickle-and-dime you on the burritos, however (cheese, sour cream, and guac cost extra). read more

Some of the best Mexican Food in Berkeley. First - the outdoor seating here is just lovely! So many flowers and tables with shade. Love it. Second - great vegetarian enchiladas. The sauce is great and so are the veggies. Two is more than enough but go for three if you're really hungry. They come with savory sides of rice and beans (go for black). Third - love the Horchata. Some of the better horchata I've had in Berkeley. They also have some delicious looking Sangria that I look forward to trying. read more

Love this place and eaten here several times. Excellent food, friendly staff, parking spots and a lovely outside patio (you can bring your dog). I recommend their potato tacos. No where else does these better. Lots of choices. 4 stars instead of 5 because of their bathroom. Needs to be remodeled & thoroughly cleaned more often and graffiti removed, supplies refilled. My friend introduced my bf to La Mission on a spontaneous late night food run, which was great since I had been working all day and forgotten to feed myself by late evening. Ever since, this has been our top Mexican place to eat tacos and burritos in Berkeley. I have taken many friends here who also agree that the food is delicious and cost effective. I myself am a taco enthusiast, so I tend to get their taco plate with fried taco. Of course, I couldn't pass up a crunchy taco with grilled prawns and avocado, and I was not disappointed by the nice mix of flavors. I even tried their veggie taco and that was awesome! I know you are suppose to get their mole dishes, but I can't help myself. They have damn good tacos. The servers have always been extremely friendly, and even when they have a full house and are running orders, they still smile and make some small chat chat. When my friend didn't get his to go order for awhile, it was the waiter who proactively approached him and asked him what his order number was! This was our go-to place for Mexican. The food is good, not spectacular, but better than anything near it. I love sitting out on their lighted patio and the service is always fine. This is now the THIRD time though that I've ordered an additional item that cost extra and they did not put it in my order. Today I got a fajita burrito and there were no peppers in it. Everything here is so overpriced, so when I am paying too much AND don't get the additional item I added on, it's extremely frustrating. Sad to say this may no longer be my go-to choice. read more

Let me start by saying this place offers amazingly tasty food. A little pricey but very yummy. We have come here multiple times in search of cuisine that reminds of home cooked meals. The horcata is spectacular, none like it in the bay. actually, there is none that comes even close. So be sure to order it. Then follow up with the ceviche! You can not miss it.  The first Bite is a firecracker in your mouth. The fish is fresh, the tomatoes crisp  and the cilantro and lime mix to form a sweet after taste. The offer the usual .... Taco, burritos, etc. But what makes this place awesome is the variety of offerings. The barbacoa is tender with a slight smoky flavor. The carnitas are awesome. I've been eating here pretty regularly for a while. The service is good and the food is solid. They're open late which is really nice when I'm on my way home from work after 10. I recently tried the shrimp burrito and it blew my mind. It was so good! The shrimp was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The shrimp burrito alone is worth 5 stars. I've had tacos and they're good, but I think the burritos are better. They have a large menu, so there's something for everyone. If you order to go, it only takes about 10-15 minutes for them to get the order ready. Also, they have beer so you can have one while you wait for your to go order, so that's a plus too. I took some friends to eat here for Lunch this past weekend. I hate to give 1 star to any business. But, I have a huge issue with a burrito costing me $10.25 and then to add to the insult it was one of the smallest burritos I have ever eaten, this includes at restaurants and trucks. The size of our burrito was too small and on top of that it was supposed to come with sour cream and cheese. It barely had any sour cream and cheese, they were very skimpy on this. I thought the price was high but we went and ahead and payed expecting a nice size burrito and the fact that the sour cream and cheese was included. My friends were also surprised at the size of there burrito. It's a shame as it is conveniently located near me. I felt as though we were robbed. Never again. read more

Basically a take out Mexican restaurant. Order at the counter and sit in one of the few tables in front of the restaurant. On a nice day, you can sit in their outdoor patio facing University Avenue. Some parking in the back of the restaurant. Big menu, good service. My burrito was huge. Could feed two. They serve "Baja" style fish tacos and burritos - which means yummy fried fish. I'm leaving such a low review because I'm livid with my whole experience tonight... I have came here in the past and food and customer service was great !!! BUT tonight was HORRIBLE - I ordered my food for a pick up which was suppose to be ready in 30min ( my food took 1 hour 30min ) I would ask the people working the front how much longer they said 15 min they told me 15 min 3 times !!!! I tried to cancel the order but was told I wouldn't be able to get a refund ! as I wait 2 big fights happen inside the restaurant causing me to get knocked to the side and had to run twards the kitchen area along with 4 other people just for safety after fight is done I ask about my food and make a comment to the lady working saying is my food done it's 1 hour over the time and I hope you gifts have more chips back there ( as I noticed the chips for the nachos was all gone ) she said yes ajd walked off but never came back to update me on my order so I wait another 10min then ask the guy working he looks for my order and finds it right away turns out my order was sitting there for about 20min they just kept saying it's coming up but never actually looked for it! Then he tells me they ran out of nachos ( which was the number 1 thing my sister wanted and she was the reason we even came to this restaurant so her whole cinco de Mayo dinner was ruined considering bout time I got home all restaurants was closed so she had nothing to eat ) when I got home I look at the food which I spent $70 on and 2 of the items I ordered which was a sandwich and sope was beyond hard to the point couldn't bite into it the burrito was skinnnny to where you can tell the kitchen rushed all the food ... Super awesome taqueria right on the main drag of university avenue. They have their own small parking lot behind the building accessible via chestnut st. in addition to the usual street parking. Usually there's a spot or two available at any given time, although the super popular lunch rush can be very busy. There is pleasing inside and outside seating. The outside seating is larger then most places of this type, and is particularly nice on a sunny day, what with the natural shade provided by several friendly trees. Inside seating is the usual booth/chair combos al fast food restaurant style. the look of the place scream re-purposed fast food chain to me, but the owners have made it all their own local styling, even if the inside is dominated by the order counter. Service is of the order and pick up when called model. The menu consists of the usual taqueria suspects-burrito, taco, combo platters with slightly more variety. They offer the full range of meats including barbacoa, lengua, camarón (shrimp) and several different varieties of fish. There are also three different stylings of veg burrito/tacos including vegan and grilled veg options, which is nice to see. The breakfast menu is especially strong, and they have an awesome salsa/condiment bar. Pricing for these items is fairly standard for the area about three bucks a taco and everything else pretty much starts at 7 bucks. Typically a meal will run about ten dollars with a drink and add ons, but it's possible to go the bare bones bargain route for slightly less. It's the flavor, convenience, and quality of the food that really shines here. One of the better lunch/breakfast options for the area for sure. read more
