The food is always good, we did have to wait a longer than usual time for our food. But the servers were attentive. We were with my granddaughter and her husband, their 1 year old baby and almost 2 year old. Unfortunately they have a policy of 20% required (we were told on bill) if party is 6 or more and yes they count toddlers and infants. It's not that we wouldn't have tipped that much but it's one thing to choose 20% tip and another to be told it's required! I did talk to the manager to share my thoughts and he said yes we charge per party number no matter if infants or that we did not order 6 meals! I'm torn by this review. This place has been around for a long time but I must tell it like it is. I took my dad out for lunch. We decided La Morenita. We were seated quickly and given chips and salsa fast. The chips and salsa was good. I only ate one chip since I'm on a diet. My dad went with a pick any three combo while I went with the dos amigo combo with carne asada and shrimp. The food came out fast and now it's time to eat. My asada was bland. Even with the green salsa, it was till bland. I had to add salt give it some flavor. My shrimps, they were overcooked. The side of beans were good. My dad also complained about the blandness of his food. The main attractions of the lunch failed while the beans and chips did good. Was this a one off? Who knows. One off or not, this meal wasn't cheap. For not being cheap, it should have been good. read more

La Morenita is still a keeper! We've been trying to eat at home more but every so often, we really need some yummy Mexican food. Lucky for us, we have plenty of delicious places to choose from! Tonight was one of those evenings where we really craved La Morenita. Wedding chicken burrito supreme for me and our youngest and a beef burrito supreme for my husband. Our food was still nice and hot when we brought it home which is a plus since we don't live near the restaurant. The flavors and tastes are delicious as always. TASTY OR WASTEY? Both!!! Not all La Morenita restaurants are the same. This one by far, is my favorite! The salsa is not watery like the others. It's always consistent. The food is ok. I've never had a bad meal at this one. Service is mediocre, probably not their fault... they are probably waiting on our food, just as much as we are. But, out of the 4 La Morenita restaurants, this one is the best, most consistent, friendliest people. The wait time, is not worth it, because then, you have to wait just as long for your food. I would recommend this place, before the others. I had to add to my review.... What I just noticed, is, nobody responds to the customer reviews! Why? The majority of restaurants respond with humbleness, and, apologize for the poor quality of food, or, bad experience at their establishment. Why is this place any different? I've been coming here for years. Sometimes the food is great and other times it sucks. Tonight, I called my order in to pick up. I got the fajitas for two and paid for chips and salsa. If you order two meals and do not pay for chips and salsa, they are supposed to provide you with two small containers of salsa and cabbage for each order. When I got home, there were only four tortillas and one small container of salsa and one container of cabbage. Everything else I ordered was there. I called in to speak to a manager and she said that the order did not have extra tortillas and I would need to pay $1.00 extra for two even though when I dine in I get them for free. She also said that the cabbage would be an extra charge if I wanted extra. I only wanted my allotment for the food that I ordered. I paid $50 and that included a $5.00 tip even though I had no server and all she said was "Sorry." and then hung up on me. Yep, La Morenita, you are sorry. Your customer service sucks. Plenty of other places in town realize that the customer pays their bills and keeps the staff employed and the lights on. This will be the last time I visit this establishment. read more

The staff is beyond friendly and very helpful. The food however has declined in flavor and quality. I picked up food to go and it was just mediocre again. I ordered chili con carne and the sauce is deliciously spicy but the meat is fatty and overcooked borderline charred. The flour tortillas were crispy and in no way close to soft. This was our first time at the one on hatch as we've been to the one in Modesto. The food was the same but we were very bothered by the service or at least what they told us. We went midweek and when we were sat the server told us that it was happy hour and the beer and margaritas were half off so since we went with a bigger group of friends we all had a drink. However when it came down to the bill we were shocked at how much we paid, given that he told us margaritas would be half off and yet my drink was more than my meal. We then asked about the prices and the waiter said that they have never done half off drinks but if they didn't then why did he tell us they were when we all sat down. I have been to both La Morenita in Modesto & Ceres and I will have to say that La Morenita in Modesto is 99% better than Ceres. Why, because I have never had cold food there, the chips are hot and toasty, and love their fresh corn hot tortillas. They are always very polite. I have eaten at La Morenita in Ceres three times and all three I have sent my food back to biting in to cold food. The sad thing is that when they take my plate of food back, it still is cold when the food comes back. The only part that is hot is the plate. I will never eat at La Morenita in Ceres, I would rather travel to Modesto to eat at La Morenita!! read more

Came here on sunday and had the worst experience. Customer service was awful and the food was a joke. I had a tasteless $13 shrimp cocktail. Literally had 5 shrimps a little bit of cilandro, onion and tomatoes with water....no cucumbers or jalapeños. This has been the worst cocktail I have ever had! When I told our server how horrible the cocktail tasted he brought me a side of ketchup and limon. After adding these ingredients I decided to give it another try...again no flavor. We came to La Morienita, there was 7 of us. The food was ok, nothing special. That's what we expected with these days. However, when we recieved each 3 different checks. They charged each one of us an 18% gratuity and a gratuity tax of 8% and added it into the total which is double taxed. The manager came and claimed it is non negotiable (which is a lie) and the gratuity tax is required by the state ( which is a lie) the since when does a restaurant tell customers how mu h to give as a tip and since when does the consumer pay for the employee's income tax? She said it is posted in front. I never saw a sign that said anything of the sort. We informed her we would never be eating there again. So double taxes, and $30 in gratuity later. Rediculous.
