I have been going to what I think is one of the two best Italian restaurants in Los Angeles - a place called Vito Italian Restaurant on the border of West L.A. and Santa Monica on Ocean Park Boulevard near Bundy since 2001. It's the best. And they've always had this irresistible dessert - a creme brulee cheesecake. We are generally too stuffed to eat it there when we are done with our entrees, but this cake is so good we get a slice nearly every time to take home and eat later or the next day. Well, while looking up recipes for creme brulee cheesecake, I accidentally stumbled on this place and realized it was the exact same cake. This is the place that supplies their creme brulee cheesecake. So, when a birthday came up recenty, I decided to drive to their factory and pick one up. Why pay $12 a slice at a restaurant when you can get 14 slices for $44 bucks. It can last in the freezer for quite sometime according to the instructions. And, yep, it's the cake. The exact same one served at the restaurant, and it is amazing. Getting it is easy. You call up in advance, order, and pay. The website recommends placing your order at least a day in advance, but luckily they had one in stock that day I called, so I could go right down. They are located on a purely industrial street. They have no sign. And the address is oddly around on the side, so I drove right by it the first time. They also have a locked gate on their parking lot, so you have to pull up on the street right out front, call them, and they bring your order out. They have a huge selection of other desserts, and I'm sure they are all excellent. I highly recommend you try one, especially the cake I got if you like NY cheesecake and you like creme brulees. It's the perfect mash-up. Check out the menu, order some sweets, and pick them up. If for some reason you spend over $150, I even think they will deliver to most of Los Angeles. Bookmark this place! Best mocha crunch cake!! My little brother has been in love with this cake since Cafe 26 served it in Santa Monica 29 years ago... ever since we have been getting it every birthday direct from La Mousse. They used to have a spot on the Westside but now we have to go all the way to Carson or get $150 and have it delivered... we usually order enough to freeze extra and save so they deliver for us. Everything is great! We tried the white chocolate egg nog cake this holiday and while it's a gorgeous cake, we all agreed it was a bit too sweet for all our tastes. So best to stick with the classics for the next orders. Our favs are the mocha crunch cake, windmill cake, la mousse classic mousse cake (it's amazing if you like chocolate mousse) and the apple pie. Everything else is really dependent on your palate but these are our staples... the coconut cake is also good but my kids don't like the fruit in it. Always fresh, always perfect. Creme brulee cheesecake with vanilla bean is pretty good. This may be an unpopular opinion but I prefer Cheesecake factory. It's good I just enjoy CF more and always eat the entire slice. I got my slice from Crafted Greens in El Cajon, CA. The price is $5 so not crazy expensive considering the size. Next time I will try one of the cookies. read more

My assistant got several of their cakes for our monthly staff birthday celebration. The quality is decent and the cakes were all pre-sliced (14 slices) and separated with parchment paper; that was perfect for a group event. One thing to note, I was told the cakes were delivered frozen and needed to be thawed before serving. The chocolate mousse cake was good and not very sweet. It is simple and basic with semi-sweet chocolate mousse and a Oreo-like crumb crust. The Boston cream pie also decent though the cake was a little dry. The eggnog cake looked festive but I couldn't taste anything that resembles the flavor of eggnog. It was was just a simple yellow cake; but, the cake itself was more moist than the other cakes. The lemon cake was probably my favorite. I gave it 4 star for decent quality and being good desserts for group events. I personally would not go out of my way to get it. read more

This bakery supplies restaurants all over the SoCal metro area. My family and I first fell in love with the coconut whiteout cake at the Nordstrom cafe. I think an employee told me that the cake was from La Mousse; it was many years ago. The cafe no longer carries this glorious cake, so I order it for special occasions and pick it up. As was their previous location in Santa Monica, it's in a non-descript industrial location that you might miss. Who on earth will know there exists a dessert place in this part of the alley? Well, not exactly an alley but if you look around La Mousse, there is a car wash place, some mechanic shops, couple of furniture stores, etc. And seriously, the exterior of the shop isn't like any other place that sells desserts. You won't see a counter with shelves of cakes, bars or delicious pies. The facade looks like any other businesses in the neighborhood. So how did I hear about this joint? I have this craving for a pear almond bar everytime I pay a visit to Cafe Nordstrom at West Side Pavilion. The bar measures maybe 3 by 2 ins. Dense with crushed almonds, pear with a baked crust on the bottom and glazed with apricot juices. It's an addiction, at least for me. Once out of the blue I decided to ask the cashier "Do you make this here?" To my surprise, she said no and even gave me the name of the confectionery....La Mousse. Just to clarify, there is no actual store front. All orders are made over the phone. You check the website "catalogue" for the desserts. Phone ordering was very straightforward and the lady I spoke to was very nice. You pick up from the "will call" area at the front of the building. I ordered the Boston Cream Cake for a birthday and collected the next day. The cake was just magnificent. Absolutely divine and so fresh. It was huge. Cakes are frozen and pre-sliced! Thanks, I just wanted to get that out of the way. It was my wife's birthday, and she loooooves chocolate. And dessert. So being the good hubby that I am, I did a thorough search of Yelp, and decided to order at La Mousse Desserts based on the good reviews. I called them, and they gave me three chocolate options, so I picked the one that sounded like the most traditional chocolate cake (not mousse), which was the Chocolate Symphony. On the day of the birthday, I went to pick it up, and I realized that it's not really a retail store. More of a locked office (which you have to buzz to be let in) next to their factory. And more of a shocker, the cakes were pre-sliced, papered between the slices, and frozen solid. Why did none of the other yelp reviewers say something? I guess all of their cakes are frozen and pre-sliced for resellers...!!! Isn't Yelp supposed to help give you information about a place you haven't been?... But I digress... Okay, well, I had enough time to thaw it out, and I didn't want to admit to the lady there that I didn't know what I was doing, so I acted all casual and said, "thanks!"... And just to prove I knew what I was doing, I asked her if I could also add a carrot cake (also frozen), and she said yes, and she went and took one out of the freezer for me. I've had good chocolate cakes with fancy chocolate shavings (at Susina on Melrose) or with excellent filling, or with raspberries or with rum... But this was a standard bearing chocolate cake. And my wife loved it. With coffee, though... Very rich. We also tried the carrot cake, eventually... And it was the same. Exactly what you imagine a good carrot cake to be. I've actually had many good carrot cakes, such as Vanilla's Bake Shop in Santa Monica, which has a great sweet drizzle. We saw the delicious goods and decided to stop by for an afternoon pick-me-up. The cashier was rude, and discriminated my employees because of their uniform. I used to work at Kelly's Coffee & Fudge Factory in a unspecified mall when I was in high school. We would get all of our pastries, cookies and cakes from this place. I tried most of their items that we purchased from them and I have to say, they make some solid desserts. Man their cheesecakes are RICH... they definitely don't scrimp with the ingredients here on loading a cheesecake up to buttery, fatty goodness. The cheesecake is different than any others I've seen. First, when you open the box you'll notice all the lil pumpkin chocolate pieces adorning the beautiful cheesecake. It's half pumpkin bread and half cheesecake. One slice of coconut whiteout cake I had at a wedding anniversary changed my life. I thought I'd tasted good coconut cake before but I was completely wrong. This soft, fluffy cake is filled with lightly whipped apricot marmalade and creamy vanilla custard. And the entire thing is covered with whipped cream and lightly toasted flakes of coconut. They put these beautiful white chocolate leaves on the cake as decorations, too sweet for my taste but they look amazing. I love LA Mousse bakery! I live in San Diego and specifically seek out restaurants and cafes that offer their products. Fortunately there are several places in town offering them including the Crest Cafe, Nordstrom ' Cafes, Claire de Lune, even Fry's Electronics cafe! In any event, I've had their lemon cake, carrot cake, pumpkin spice cake, chocolate windmill cake. I love all of them! If I was going to throw a medium to large dinner party, I would definitely order desserts from La Mousse! Or ask for them at your favorite restaurant. In my opinion they are far superior to the typical desserts found in most restaurants. And I agree with other reviewers that their desserts easily rival the Cheesecake Factory's. Had the lemon bars, carrot cake and butter brick at a party and they were all fabulous, though my favorite was definitely the lemon bar! Especially when they were still slightly cold from being frozen earlier. Highly recommend and would make great desserts for a party. A hidden cake shop in the guise of a warehouse (it actually is a cake warehouse). I had to ring the buzzer to be let in, and initially thought I was at the wrong place because it looked like an office more than a store. I was let in to a tasting area and got to flip through some of the cake catalogs. I had to go with the Boston cream pie and I'm glad that I did. It definitely looked prettier in real life than in its pic, and it tasted heavenly. All the pies/cakes are frozen with specific thawing instructions.
