    Flower Basket Cake
    Karen L.

We have been getting cakes from Hansen's for our entire lives, or so it seems! We are always impressed by the excellent customer service and attention to details. The bakery itself is very clean and always smells heavenly! Last week I had my birthday luncheon for 35 of my closest friends and we ordered the gorgeous, world-famous Flower Basket cake which we've ordered dozens of times. The cake was so spectacular that no one wanted to cut into it! But we did! Inside was Italian Marble with vanilla chip buttercream and vanilla frosting. We asked for purple and pink roses and a freestanding birthday inscription heart. Everything was perfect. I think that every one of my friends asked me where I got the cake! Hansen's is the only place we will ever order cakes! Just a footnote: You can go into the bakery if you need a same-day cake and they will inscribe it for you. Hopefully it will be a flavor that you want as there are only so many available!

    The empty fridge...

Under new management this place is really gone down. I've been a loyal customer for over 20 years and never have I walked in and not been able to get a cake. They claim it's because of traffic flow, but the other owners were always able to anticipate traffic flow and to keep cakes in the freezer. The revised website shows no business hours, they want you to order a cake two weeks ahead of time that really does not allow time for emergencies or pop-up things to celebrate. You will be missed Hansen's.

I have been relying on Hansen's Cakes since I was a child, and they have never once steered me wrong. They are one of those rare bakeries where the cakes taste every bit as good as they look. Their designs are always elegant and detailed, and you can tell how much pride goes into every order. No matter the occasion, I can trust that a Hansen's cake will be the highlight of the celebration. My personal favorite has always been their marble cake with chocolate chip frosting. It is rich without being heavy and consistently moist and flavorful. The chocolate chip frosting is the perfect touch and has been my go to for as long as I can remember. One of the things I love most is that their cakes taste just as amazing frozen. I have definitely grabbed a slice straight from the freezer more than once and it still tastes freshly made. Hansen's remains one of the most dependable and beloved bakeries in Los Angeles. They have been part of my life for so many years and they continue to deliver exceptional quality every single time. I will always be a loyal customer and I recommend them to anyone who wants a cake that is both beautiful and unforgettable!

It's been a long relationship, full of ups and downs. Over the years, Hansen's has been either a total hit or a major miss. For the last few years, I actually stopped ordering from them altogether because I was just tired of being disappointed time after time. The thing about a cake is that it's not just dessert -- it's the centerpiece of a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. You only get one chance to make that moment special, whether it's a birthday, wedding, or baby shower. If the cake misses, the moment is gone. You can't redo it. Still, after all these years, I decided to give Hansen's another try. I met with Kathy -- who, coincidentally, is the same person I've always worked with. My last cake from them had been so dry it was like eating dust and sand at the same time. Kathy admitted they had received several complaints about dry cakes but assured me that the business was now under new ownership and that I wouldn't have that experience again. The previous owner had offered me a discount due to that issue, which I had to track down when placing my new order -- a wedding cake for my son. I originally ordered a three-tier cake, but Kathy upgraded me to a canister style at no extra charge because of the discount. I requested a clean, plain cake with sharp edges and no topper (since I had purchased one separately). I personally picked and hand delivered the flowers and gave detailed instructions on how I wanted them placed -- essentially, I designed the cake myself. At first, I planned to pick it up, but later added a $250 delivery fee from Beverly Hills to Costa Mesa, moving the date from the 8th to the 9th. I called on the 7th to confirm everything and was rushed off the phone, though reassured that the cake would arrive on the wedding day. I even double-checked because I knew no one at the venue had a refrigerator large enough for that size of cake. Kathy confirmed it shouldn't sit out long, saying it would start to melt after a few hours. When I asked if the cake had already been baked, she said no -- that it would be baked the following day and delivered fresh. Well, low and behold, the cake was delivered a full day early. How could that be when I had just been told it wasn't even baked yet? I find several alarming emails because they can't drop off the cake. According to the wedding coordinator, he could hear Kathy yelling over the phone and blaming ME for the issue -- using words he didn't even want to repeat. (I have not confirmed that part directly with her.) Eventually, after in some way blaming that she was so busy when I came in she took full responsibility for the delivery mix-up and rearranged the delivery for the next day, which would now be an at least 3-day-old cake smh. The coordinator also said the delivery team kept trying to convince him the cake would be fine sitting out, which was the complete opposite of what I was told. They simply didn't want to make two trips. So which is it -- the cake melts after four hours, or it can sit out for more than 24? On top of that, the flowers were placed on the very top of the cake even though I specifically asked for it to be left blank for my topper. You can also see from the photos that a flower is missing on the first tier -- I had asked for them to cascade down the side. That said, the cake did look beautiful overall, and thankfully, it tasted good, which was my biggest concern. It seems Hansen's still has a lot to work on in terms of communication, organization, and following client directions. I can't say I'll never return, but I definitely know it would be a risk. After 40 years of doing business with them, I still haven't had a completely flawless experience. I would have given 3 stars but I called a day before to confirm and was rushed disregarded then ended up having us all stressed out for no reason then tried to blame me as well as not follwing the directions and the delivery men lying about the cake melting as well as the cake being a few days old.

Wow, this cake is absolutely amazing! The creativity, colors, and attention to detail are incredible. You truly brought the whole vision to life perfectly. Jeremy is going to be so happy. Thank you for creating such a special cake for his 8th birthday! The flavor was the best. I've been living here for 5 years, and this is the first time I've had such a truly delicious cake. Highly recommend!

    DEMO on print cake

It's unfortunate I have to write this, but I feel like I had to, due to the cost and reputation of Hansen's. I have frequented Hansen's for almost all of my children's and spouses cakes, spending $1,000s on intricate cakes that were well worth the money. My last experience was disappointing. From the minute I ordered via the website to the pick up of the cake. When ordering from the website I receive an initial email to confirm payment for what I wanted. I responded "Yes, let's do it." I never got a response back for 24 hours, so then I called. The woman on the phone looked as if she was going through the email and confirmed everything that was on the email, including that we pick up in Tarzana, because we live in Ventura County. Long story short, cake was ready in Fairfax day of. The cake was a print cake, which had the DEMO photo on it. It had DEMO written all of the background of the print. I asked if there was any way to fix it, and they said they could pipe over the lighter colors so it could look better. I had to leave to set the rest of the party up, but my spouse would head down later to grab it. 4 hours total driving for this cake. There was no apology or responsibility taken on the business side. Matter of fact, the management never acknowledged an email I sent. It is was it is, but I just wanted the people who have been coming forever, just know it is NOT the same. From customer service to product. It really saddens me that I have to end our Hansen's relationship. I definitely don't need extra stress in my life. If this was a $50 cake I wouldn't care, but it wasn't. UPDATE 1/21/26: Hansen's reached out via email with an apology and a store credit covering 1/3 of the cost of the original cake. I appreciated the acknowledgment and the gesture.

    White cake with strawberry filling..

After having ordered successfully two separate times in the past and enjoying both products, I expected this order from Hansens to be the same. Unfortunately, I was unexpectedly disappointed. I hyped this cake up to my friends and family and ended up feeling embarrassed. The cake was dry and crumbly. I picked up the cake at 9 a.m., got home at 10 a.m., and refrigerated it immediately. I did not cut it until around 9 p.m. I am not sure if it was user error, but I do not believe I did anything wrong in terms of storing and handling it. I did everything exactly the same as I had during previous orders. I mean the design and writing on it was lovely but taste wise was utter disappointment. Sadly, the Hansens name has been tainted for me and I will not be returning ever again.

My order of four cupcakes, AKA "breakfast"
    Mike S.

I ordered four cupcakes. I bought a mixture of flavors, every one was stacked high with delicious frosting. Cakes were firm, too, perfect for hoisting all that frosting. This wasn't my intended breakfast, but I enjoyed it far more than I would have eating my Clif Bar. The baking goods are a win--and I didn't even try a cake. The staff was super accommodating to me. I asked to sit in the corner, since my appointment elsewhere was an hour away, and they not only invited me but brought me silverware and napkins. Everybody was kind and upbeat despite being open for two minutes. The store feels like a real bakery. It's got older furnishings, but that lends it an old-fashioned vibe--in the best way. It was comfortable and lived in, and the clearly hand-made confections reflect the human touch of the place, too. I wish they were in my hometown (my diet not so much). This is the kind of space you hope to find when you're in town. Wish I was with someone now to gush about it with. Yelp will have to do!

    Our daughters cake

We recently ordered a birthday cake for our daughter from Hanson's Cakes, and while there was a small spelling mistake on the cake, what happened next truly blew us away. Joe, the owner, didn't just apologize--he personally drove twice from Fairfax all the way to West LA to make things right. That kind of dedication and customer service is nearly impossible to find in this city anymore. Joe went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, and we were incredibly touched by the care and effort he put in. We also want to give a big shout-out to Jennifer, who works at Hanson's--she was kind, responsive, and a total pleasure to deal with throughout the entire process. The cake itself was delicious as always--Hanson's never disappoints on quality--but what stood out most was the integrity and heart behind the business. Thank you, Joe and Jennifer!

    Groom's cake executed to perfection.

We ordered two cakes from Hansen's Cakes on Fairfax in Los Angeles for one of the most important days of our lives, our wedding day. Both the wedding cake and groom's cake were very expensive. Let's start with the positive: The Batman cake was flawless. Absolutely stunning, perfectly executed, and truly the centerpiece of the reception. Guests were blown away by the design and detail. It was a complete showstopper and very delicious. If we were rating them solely on this cake, it would be 5 stars without hesitation. Unfortunately, the wedding cake which we dreamed about since our engagement was a different story entirely. It was supposed to be a beautiful, intricate basket weave design. Instead, it looked as though someone had simply painted uneven lines of icing on the cake to mimic the basket weave pattern, with none of the texture or craftsmanship we expected from Hansen's Cakes. It looked like amateur hour at the Apollo, as if it had been decorated by a third grader. Walking into the reception and seeing this was devastating and took away from our big day. We waited a long time for our dream wedding, only to have the "dream cake" look like it had been thrown together at the last minute. Both cakes were very expensive. They should have both been equally impressive, equally detailed, and both worthy of being the star of the reception. Instead, only one was. In short: * Batman cake: 10/10 -- a flawless showstopper. * Wedding cake: Unacceptable, especially for the price and significance. 0/0 If you're ordering a themed cake, Hansen Cakes may knock it out of the park. But, for something as important as a wedding cake, you should think twice. We won't be going back and would not recommend getting wedding cakes from them.

One of the worst experiences I've experienced at a bakery. Don't come here incase you're a celebrity I guess. When I came in I had questions about the cake flavors and was given attitude from the start. I wasn't sure about adding flowers but when the heart and name came back I asked if it was ok to add the flowers. The lady at the front literally took a deep breath in front of me and rolled her eyes. I could understand if there was a huge line and I was being difficult, but the store was empty. When I left the store I noticed the name was smudged, I guess they had messed up the letter A and the word birthday and instead of redoing it they just added more icing. Nonetheless it smudged against the box, and I did not go back to get it fixed. I had enough negative energy from here. Do not recommend. 0 stars if I could.

Great vibes and friendly people. As far as actual cookies go, I got the Walnut Chocolate Chip and…read moreRocky Road. I know Levain pioneered undercooked cookies. Personally, I don't like that style, I was hoping the original would change that for me! Long story short, I didn't like the Walnut Chocolate Chip. I personally just don't like that style still, so I'll chalk it up as a "me" problem. The cooked part was good. The Rocky Road was cooked through. It was an amazing baked good with good flavor and add-ins. Between the roasted almond slices and fudgey chocolate chips, I was enjoying it immensely. A highlight of my day for sure. If you love underbaked cookies, Levain is your cookie shop! I don't and they had something for me too!

It's relatively busy but the line moved swiftly. The Larchmont store was pretty lively with the crowded and colorful wall deco! It's pretty fun to see that they came up with more seasonal items lately and most of them nailed it well when they came to cookies. Previously the lemon one and the most recent was the Raspberry Pistachio which I was impressed by as I just fancied sweet and refreshing combo of white chocolate and raspberry. The pistachio added more texture to it for sure. Same as any Levain cookies, best enjoyed warm and fresh out of oven. The Cookie Milk Latte was actually the main reason bringing me here, yet I was bit let down by it as I was expecting more malty cookie flavor in the drink. I felt it tasted not much different to regular cream top latte with some cookie crumbles in it.

We've seen all the viral fruit pastries online, and were so excited to try them. When we got in, we were able to see all of the options on display and they had a big menu telling you exactly what was in each one. You order off of a kiosk, which makes it incredibly easy to order. Almost all of our pastries were ready before we had even left the kiosk, which was great! I went with the mango and the peach, both of which were fantastic! The shortbread cookie underneath both was delicious, the mango mousse and filling tasted so fresh and amazing. The peach had an Earl Grey cream and fresh peach chunks as well. Both were in the classic white chocolate shell. These are so cute, fun to eat, very refreshing, and not overly sweet. The shop itself is adorable, plenty of seating, great decor and the staff was super friendly and very nice! These fruit pastries have absolutely gone viral, and there's many shops that do them, but Tu Cha is hands-down, the best!
