Service is always great but unfortunately today's order of a slice of carrot cake was not. We called ahead to see if they had any chocolate cake left (our favorite) to put one aside but no one answered their phone very disappointing. Had to drive about 25 min and chance it to see if they had our favorite cake slice of course they sold out it was 2:45pm. We opted for their carrot cake which left a lot to be desired. It's not your traditional carrot cake taste/flavor I could not make out what spices they used like the usual (nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves etc) maybe it was just really really light? The frosting was also very different from what perhaps we are used to as a carrot cake and cream cheese frosting also very light in flavor. It was moist and frosting was creamy smooth got to give them that but I definitely would not order again. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie and apparently got the super deluxe edition inspired by Willy Wonka's personal sugar reserves. This thing wasn't sweet... it was a full-scale dental event. One bite and I could hear my pancreas filing a complaint. Now for the real reason writing this review was not because of the excess sugar, which was tolerable -- It was the complimentary human hair(s) baked right in. Very kind service, the coffee is alright not bad at all. The ambiance is super cozy which is a big bonus. The chocolate cake is definitely good but frankly, it doesn't taste like anything extraordinary especially for 10 bucks a slice. The cinnamon roll is incredibly soft and moist but it is like they cut the cinnamon amount in half. Barely any cinnamon in the cinnamon rolls. Cute little bakery with some tasty pastries. We tried several items - strawberry/cream danish and banana bread were tasty. They had a lemon bar which isn't a normal menu item, I thought it was fine. Marigold Bakeshop is the sweetest cafe! I can't believe this was my first visit ever, and it definitely won't be my last. I stopped by on a Sunday morning for a quick breakfast. I ordered an iced americano which came in a huge glass. I usually ask for my iced americanos with extra ice so they're less watery but I forgot to do that here, and it was PERFECT. Very rarely do I drink a plain americano (no sugar, no milk) and it is delicious. Perfect ratio and the espresso was not bitter or acidic at all. My fiancé and I got a cheddar biscuit to munch on while we waited for our food, and it was admittedly the weakest link. But only because everything else was so much better! We split the smoked beef sausage breakfast burrito with avocado crema and salsa roja. It was so fresh, delicious, and flavorful! I loved combining the sauces, and it did not last long. In the LA market for breakfast burritos in 2025.... $12.75 was also a very reasonable price. It definitely gave the $20 Wake n Late breakfast burrito a run for its money!! The star of the show though was the Cinnamon Roll. Apparently they only make these on the weekends. Even though we debated trying other pastries, the consensus of those in line with us was that we had to try one while we could. Apparently they tend to run out - and I can see why! It was moist and perfectly sweet and just incredible. So far we have incredible food and really good coffee. If I could go above 5 stars for Marigold Bakeshop, I would. I'm a sucker for a cafe with solid coffee, good pastries, and an ideal environment to meet up with friends and/or get work done. Marigold was a 10/10 on all the above. I got an iced latte, which came in a large glass -- big bonus points when coffee shops have real glasses/mugs for drinks. My fiancee and I split the smoked beef sausage breakfast burrito, which was delicious. We went with the avocado cream and salsa roja, which were both great. The burrito is a pretty good size for $12.75, and the crispy tater tots inside were the best part. We also got a cheddar biscuit and the cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was easily the best I've ever had. It's huge and so fresh -- and they only make it on weekends, so definitely get one if you can! There were tons of other sweets that looked great, too. But above all, the atmosphere and vibes at Marigold are really what tie everything together. The staff is super sweet, and there are tons of tables, each with their own outlet. There's Wi-Fi, natural light, and just a generally awesome local neighborhood vibe. The staff were friendly and helpful and we ordered a coffee cake and a spiced pear scone. The coffee cake was good, but the scone was amazing. My husband still talks about it! We decided to preorder a pumpkin pie and a chocolate cake for Thanksgiving and it was the best decision. Pick up the day before Thanksgiving was easy and both treats were a huge hit with our family. The appropriately named "I Love Chocolate Cake" is definitely a new personal favorite. Very moist and rich, but not over the top sweet. Look, I had a colleague talk about the best chocolate cake she'd ever had and it being from this bakery in mid-city. Ended up finding out it was a new spot walking distance. Have now tried a range of drinks, pastries, desserts and food items. Cinnamon rolls are good-- only can get on the weekends and they do sell out. Breakfast burritos are ok, not my favorite as they're on the smaller side for the price you're paying, especially when there are 3+ places right nearby with great burritos. What keeps me coming back is the darn spinach and feta puff pastry pockets-- they're like a savory homemade pop-tart and I can absolutely inhale them like there's no tomorrow. I've had them fresh there, taken them home, and also reheated them in days following and it's ALWAYS THAT GOOD. Their other pastries are also good as well as their cupcakes and cakes ... but I highly, highly recommend the spinach and feta. Can confirm their coffee is good, not great, but honestly, I want great food + good coffee and I'm going here for their baked goods afterall. The real star though, the business end, are the pastries and the olive cake and the chocolate cake were terrific. Incredibly moist and not too sweet on the chocolate cake. This is my second review for Marigold Bakery. Instead of ordering the chocolate cake, I ordered the very berry cake for my dad's birthday. The service of the workers, like usual, was spectacular. My only complain was the cake itself. I was very excited for it, especially how everyone loved the chocolate cake. When my father took a slice of it, I was disappointed on the lack of fruits in the filling. Shocking to say, the first slice only had one single blue berry in the filling. The rest of the slices were random. Some had some fruits, but others barely had any at all. The texture of the cake was also dense like a fruit cake, and the frosting itself was thick. It was probably one of the most buttery frostings I ever had, which was quite overwhelming. Overall, I feel like I was left disappointed. This is a rating solely on the chocolate cake. Now for context I've been on a diet for 4 months. I have a big sweet tooth and I love all things chocolate. That being said I've not had a single dessert for 4 months and asked my husband for a chocolate maltida cake for my birthday. I even showed him pictures and videos of what I was expecting because it would be my first dessert in a while and I've been on the search for a rich, moist fudgy chocolaty cake for a long time. So I have been really looking forward to this. He found this bakery when he looked online. Presentation wise it looked ok nothing really special it was a chocolate cake. Now the cake itself some parts were moist, some parts were airy and some parts were dry/crunchy. The filling was the buttercream itself and it was a thin layer of it. I guess I was expecting more of a chocolate icing not buttercream for the whole cake in general but sadly it did not meet my expectations of my dream for a moist fudgy chocolate cake. My husband told me this place prides itself for having the best chocolate cake in LA but I think there's room for improvement.
