The waiters and the staff were dead on perfect servers with extremely well prepared food. The only problem and I'm searching for a problem is the acoustics. This restaurant has mirrors on the wall, which reverberates The sound and makes it very difficult to hear the people at your table put some painting on the wall to lower the sound. La Nonna Bella was a great find during the stay in Garden City. The Pasta Fagiole was as good as my Nonna Maria's (maybe better). A great wine selection also helped start the meal, with an entree off the specials of the day presented by my waiter. The paccheri pasta with sautéed sausage was amazing. For desert I teetered on tiarmisu or rum cake and went with the former. It was different with a Bailey's cream but a delicious change. He offers rabbit dishes - uncommon in most restaurants - which, along with his other dishes, keeps us coming back for more. The rabbit ragu over orichette pasta is to die for! I honestly don't think you can have a bad meal here- The menu is well thought-out with inventive options which you just know come from the heart. I had veal stuffed with prosciutto and provolone; it was served as 4 small rollatini surrounding an inventive bread spiral filled with a fava bean puree.... So delish, and the presentation was beautiful! On a previous visit he had tripe as a special appetizer- I am a big tripe fan, and his was the very best I've ever eaten. We got an early last minute reservation Saturday. Everyone was very friendly and the owner/chef came over to talk for a few minutes. We loved our appetizers; you must try the meatballs!!!! Our first visit to La Nonna Bella and wow was it excellent!! We were greeted by the owner Lino who escorted us to our table. After enjoying drinks, we ordered Gnocchi Di Alberobello - an olive based gnocchi with arugula for our appetizer. It was innovative, unique and delicious. For dinner we enjoyed the Nonna - a chicken, eggplant & fontina cheese dish covered with light brown sauce, and the Saltimbocca - a veal, prosciutto & mozzarella dish served with spinach. Both entrees were absolutely delicious!! Lino stopped by our table to check-in with how we were enjoying our meals. We told him we were loving everything! Next, we ordered the Panna Cotta - a creamy vanilla dessert topped with berries, along with espresso. Boy, was that good! We sat in the front dining room near the bar which was beautifully decorated for Christmas, as was the entire restaurant. The design is classy, refined and comfortable. We wanted dinner out after a long day, it was 7:00, tried several places, all closed early. My daughter recommended La Bella Nonna! We were warmly welcomed in. A table was quickly set up so we could watch the Mets on their tv by the bar. Great waiter recommended a great glass of red wine; a Tuscan blend from Umbria. We were a party of 4 on a Saturday night. Two guests ordered off the menu and two were specials. Don't know why that should matter but the specials were excellent, the other two were just OK. We had such a lovely time here for dinner on a Friday night! Called for a reservation about twenty minutes before we wanted to go out and were lucky enough to score a table. We started with drinks, fritto misto and the carpaccio. The breading on the calamari and shrimp was light and the tomato sauce to dip was chunky and tasty (could have used a little more, but we're big dippers). Carpaccio was my favorite dish of the night - fresh arugula, a generous helping of shaved Parm, all perfectly seasoned. We had the Margherita chicken and the Strascinate Pugliesi for mains. Literally the best broccoli rabe dish I've ever eaten - cooked beautifully, full of flavor but not bitter, pasta was delicious and looked made by hand. The chicken dish was also fresh and very tasty. Only minor complaint is a side of pasta would have been a welcome compliment to the dish (maybe next time). We were too stuffed for dessert, but very much look forward to trying it when we return for date nights. This will also be a great place to take our parents (who are rather picky eaters). Food excellent. Service ok. BIG drawback (at least to me), there are NO restrooms on the main (ground) level. They are downstairs, and I got dizzy just looking at them when the waiter showed me. It's an extra long, very steep staircase. I have oxygen deficit and could not go up or down those steps. I told the waiter that I needed a ladies' room! He took me to a deli next door and told the cashier that I was going to use their restroom. (Eww, right near their front door and one "stall.") When I returned to the restaurant I told the waiter that it was hard to believe it was legal to have a restroom down that staircase, especially because there was no forewarning!! I am going to do the research to see if that is allowed. The food was excellent but it's too bad that I wont return. "Take out" is out of the question bc the food wouldnt travel well. read more

He satsfied our every request expeditiously. And he was a damn friendly guy as well. I opened with a glass of house Chianti which I really enjoyed. Followed up with the Crab Cake/Rice Ball App which was perfectly seasoned and well presented. In fact, all dishes here were well presented. I followed my app with Spaghetti Al Tonno. A delicious red sauce of Fresh Tuna, Olives, Anchovies and Capers adorned the spaghetti. It was so good I inhaled it. Closed the meal with my OCD special, Affogato with Vanilla Gelato. Yum. Yum. My fellow diners loved this restaurant. They praised the Manilla Clams app (what a large portion!), the Veal Saltimbocca, the Veal Limone, the Burrata, the Gnocchi, the Shrimp Scampi, the Chocolate Cake and the Profiteroles. Near the conclusion of the meal, the very friendly owner stopped by to engage in small talk. My fellow diners, and I, left La Nonna Bella completely satisfied. First the good. The food was delicious the dessert even better. The gelato and Panna Cotta were amazing and that's coming off of a 5 week trip to Italy. We were a group of 10 and they give you a 2 hour dining window which for a party of 10 is tight. But the bad part is as they're bringing us our dessert about 5 minutes into it we were told our time is basically up. The approach was beyond rude and the hostess or GM or whoever she was was so inattentive even the minute we walked in the door early. Point is go for the food, it's worth it but the owners need to look into the lady who check's you in then kicks you out to perhaps give her a little training in the food hospitality industry. I would consider this a good Italian restaurant but nothing to write home about, nothing really special. There are much better Italian restaurant on the Island that have much larger portions and better tasting entrees at a much lower price point. The moment I walk in through the back entrance, I noticed the entire glass door dirty and not crystal clear, ( a pet peeve of mine) and the staircase heading downstairs to the restroom kind of old and rundown. I believe they need to update the space to freshen up the feel and look. The entrees of veal, chicken, and fish that we ordered were good but left us disappointed after reading such great reviews. The owners came by to check on our table and they were the sweetest people ever. I noticed they have a 2 our max dining time during their peak dinner hours, which as a server myself I completely understand. So keep that in mind when making reservations.
