Like the taqueria that was renewed in Westwood Park a year later, La Oaxaqueña is looking better than ever through its interior decorations. Its customer service come out pretty decent and promising. Would love to come back only for one thing, deep fried grasshoppers. For over 16 years, La Oaxaqueña had a unique variety of protein choices, from ostrich to venison which were game meats. Grasshoppers are the only bug protein they bring back once again. After 4 years, they're here to stay while they're available, just like Donaji. I love the chewy texture of the exoskeleton. I have one soft taco for tonight. Next time, I'll come back for a pair. Make it a trio! On second thought, I'll keep this a pair. Way back then, I could've sworn I seen how La Oaxaqueña once made batter fried tarantula tempura, but that was removed for safety reasons. I'll be looking forward to find out what La Oaxaqueña has in store for us. read more

We stopped by for a quick bite and I really enjoyed their pastor tacos! Not the best I've had in the Bay Area or Mission, but still really solid. The tamale was a little light on meat and I probably wouldn't get again but tacos were good. Seating is first come, first serve, as most Mexican places are in the area. Quick service and good food, I'd come back. read more

Pastor, regular burrito: B The burrito tasted fine, I had a little higher expectations for a mission burrito. The pastor was tender but didn't have the same sweetness/acidity I typically like from pineapple. And I didn't see any option for choice of beans so it was defaulted to black beans. Convenient online ordering, plenty of options. read more

In the ranking of Mission Tacquerias, I would say the quality of the food is near the top. The food is a mix of Oaxacan and Salvadoran (papusas, plátanos, etc.) I got plátanos maduros and a súper taco and my friend got 3 tacos and a papusa. This is the only place on Mission St that serves a super taco as if it is actually from Mexico, with charred onions, chopped jalapeño, and avocado. It's an order at the counter, sit down spot, and it typically takes 10-15 minutes to get the food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's a good amount of seating but at 9pm on a Thursday is was full and we had to wait a few minutes for a table to turnover.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]At night, it's on a section of Mission St that can get a little rowdy, but it's right near BART.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] read more

Stopped by for a late dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The surrounding area is not great and the ambience of the restaurant itself is nothing special.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When we walked in we were pointed to a table but nobody came. We then realized that it was an order at the counter type of place, no big deal but would have been nice to know when being seated. I ordered a super burrito with pastor. The burrito was finished on the grill which is gave it a nice crunch on the outside. Overall, not very flavorful, smaller than most burritos, and fairly light on the meat. The chips were also stale, we didnt even eat them. I was hoping for better for a $14 burrito. read more

To be clear, I think the rating inflation makes 3 star to mean mid, or bad. But that's not the place. It's good a food. I've got the Oaxaca mole chicken and sauce was sweet and solid, the chicken itself was pretty good. They give you plenty of tacos on the side to wrap. The rest of the bean, rice, etc was a typical of what you get in a plate like this. It was good, not exceptional, all this for like $28 after tax and tip was much, even for SF. The service was ok and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the inside ambiance? was good but not much to note.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I tried the mole since the restaurant is called Oaxaquena but looking at the reviews, maybe I should've just ordered a simple burrito or tacos. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small, clean, counter-ordering place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They had chicken mole, one of my favorite dishes. It was a quarter-bird dark meat covered generously with a thick and dark but not very vivid sauce. Rice and beans with were also plain but good. They had mango lemonade for a drink, so I added that. A solid meal, the chicken well-cooked. So overall a bit bland but a hearty meal. Good service also. Pretty satisfactory. read more

The tacos were delicious, I tried the chicken, beef and venison and they all tasted great although sometimes the tacos are a bit tough. The chips with guacamole were also great. I enjoyed the Mexican coke which completed the meal perfectly. Overall a good choice for quick and cheap tacos. read more

The carne asada was flavorful and tender. The quesabirria, though, was a bit underwhelming on its own -- not very crispy or cheesy and didn't have much flavor unless dipped in the consommé. I tried regular tacos and everything was crispy very fried. Not flavor at all I ate fried carne asada y cabeza meat, needed to remove all the fat from the cabeza taco leaving it almost empty. I was starving and ready to go back to work so I could not take time to complain and wait for a new plate. Meat tacos should not be fried or tortillas unless less you warn it in the menu. read more

Stopped by to get a Pastor super burrito w/o sour cream. It came with chips. Super came with guacamole. The tortilla is grilled and comes with black beans. The guy brings your food to your table and brings you two salsa (red & green). It's super filling. I also got a Jamaica (hibiscus) aquas frescas. This was almost just another typical SF Mission taquería experience - but then that's when I saw the sign that read - "Today's Special: Jerk chicken burrito"!! WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?!! I came here with friends after a night out and the food hit. Service was pretty quick, you go up to the counter to order and they bring the food to your table. I got the super quesadilla with chicken and the mango lemonade and both were so good. My friends also tried the lemonade and loved it, they ordered a super burrito and tacos and they loved it too. It was still pretty busy late at night but we were able to get a table and had a great time. Would recommend! read more

I think the combination of the two gave a good punch of seasoning without being too salty. The lettuce and tomato gave a really nice crunchy fresness while the beans, rice gave volume to each bite without taking away from the meat. The tortilla the didn't hold too well, it had a really nice color and even crispiness all around For the price, I felt the burrito was a little smaller than other burrito's I've had. So naturally I was a little disappointed in the size. But nonetheless it was still really good and packed with flavor. The red/rojo sauce packed a lot of flavor. The heat creeps on your but isn't too overpowering. The chips were also really good. Bigger than more places I've been too, didn't taste old despite being near closing time. Was in the area for an event and swung by for a quick dinner on a Sunday night. Ordered a super burrito with cabeza for protein and then chips and salsa. Cabeza costed an additional $1.50. The chips were the tiniest portion ever for $2, would prob just skip next time. Salsa is located in a mini fridge to the left of the counter. Burrito took about 10ish minutes to be ready. Portion wise it was pretty big, but flavor didn't really meet my expectations. There wasn't that much protein in the burrito and the cabeza itself wasn't that seasoned. Incredible hot chocolate and good vegetarian options! The hit for me is that the large tlayuda (the inspiration dish for the Taco Bell Mexican pizza) that is salty (from generous Oaxacan cheese on top), creamy from the beans + avocado on top, and especially satisfying with green salsa on top. Would recommend sharing one to try the other specialities (tamal and veggie burritos also caught my eye - they have a vegan chorizo option), as the whole tlayuda can get a bit heavy. I've only ordered takeout, but they do have a casual seating area that is a good landing spot before bouncing around the Mission! read more

idk what the going rate for tacos is, but for some tacos that were marked as 3.75 on the menu, I ended up paying 10.24 for 2 this spot was actually an established shop inside a building. You order first then sit down with a number. There were cute tablecloth details at each table. We got al pastor to try to compare to El Charro that we had right before this and it was honestly fine but nothing remarkable. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, you know your Mexican food options tend to be pretty limited in San Francisco. Nothing against cheese or rice and bean tacos, but they don't pack the punch the city's savory meat tacos tend to. La Oaxaqueña is one of the only places I know with delicious vegetarian street style tacos starring soy chorizo (not the greasy red cumin flavored Soyrizo, much better). They also have burritos - soy chorizo is just one of their regular protein options, which is amazing! And the tacos are savory and flavorful and remind me if the meat tacos I once loved. The inside is colorful and cozy, service very friendly, I loved the music, food was delicious and inexpensive, sauces are great, and my tacos were accompanied by grilled onions and peppers. I am so glad I found this restaurant and have a place to get a vegetarian taco that isn't just rice. read more

The most pleasant restaurant experience!! The restaurant itself is very colorful and vibrant. The owner was so kind, gracious, and welcoming; we got delicious, rich hot chocolate on the house (so nice)! Went hear late night with a few friends since it was one of the few places open in the neighborhood. I ended up going with the tamal de pollo. The tamal was phenomenal consisting of chicken of mole. I had never had a tamale at 130am, but it did not disappoint. My friends got quesadillas and tacos which also looked amazing. The staff were friendly and helpfulm. Brush up on your Spanish and check this spot out asap. If you haven't had a tlayuda yet, do yourself a favor and try one. The menu has a broad selection of traditional Oaxacan and Latinx dishes. I was craving mole enchiladas and this place popped up on UberEats. I took a chance on ordering them and they were amazing!! The mole itself was really thick and flavorful, a bit sweet but not too much so. They were generous with the amount of mole sauce and it came with two chicken enchiladas. It also came with rice and refried beans. There was a separate container with lettuce and avocado. It also came with chips and red and green salsas - the red salsa was quite spicy and addicting! The enchiladas came packed very well in a container with three sections so nothing was soggy upon delivery. Can't wait to get this one again! read more

Their mango agua fresca is like a 12. Next level amazing. I bought one and walked halfway down the street and turned back to buy another one. Their passionfruit is my least favorite. Their pupusas are handmade and taste amazing. Vegetarian or not, I've liked them all. I feel that they heat up well (I buy a bunch so when I'm at home and lazy I have food to eat), or if you eat them there they are fresh. What more can you ask for? The amount of meat in each pupusa was minimal that we thought they gave us a different one. The sauce and vegetables with the pupusa was a must -- so good. There's usually a wait but worth it for a great spot with affordable prices.

I'd give them about a 3.5 out of 5. On a good day, they come out with that perfect golden-brown finish. On a bad day, they look and taste undercooked to the point where I've had to throw them back on the stove at home just to make them edible. The ambiance doesn't do much to help. It's your typical Mission-style Latin restaurant, kind of sticky and worn-in, but in a way where you can't quite tell if it's part of the aesthetic or just a lack of upkeep. Now, let's get into why this leans closer to a one-star experience. The staff consistently come off like they'd rather be anywhere else. They don't smile and often come across as rude. Timing is basically a suggestion here. If you place a takeout order, plan well ahead, at least 45 to 60 minutes before pickup. Every single time I've called, I've been told 25 to 30 minutes, only to arrive and wait another 15 to 20 minutes. Without fail. And in a neighborhood where parking is already a headache, with limited meters and tight timing, you'll feel that delay. Your patience will absolutely be tested. Don't say I didn't warn you. Update: Today's order included a hit inside the cheese mixture of the Pupusas. Disgusting.
