Both dinners came with rice and beans. We ordered guacamole and it was very good. The chips and salsa were super yummy. Great service. I'm a little picky and my order was perfect. We visited this restaurant after a couple days camping about month ago and LOVED it! Clearly a locals hang with tons of take out orders. I had the huevos rancheros which was yummy and served tostada style. We also ordered a bunch of tacos for taco Tuesday, carnitas plate & a chicken dish. Went to La Palapa last night for dinner. It is a relatively little restaurant but felt very homey. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had the crispy taquitos with carnitas and it was the best entree we ordered. We also had chile relleno burrito. The burrito was massive and tasty. It's not hard to believe that my best Pacific Coast food experience was at La Palapa Mexican Restaurant. Nowhere else we've tried even comes close to what we experienced here. Sure is expensive, but worth it compared to others. We had tacos, quesadillas, and burritos -- everything was good, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. They also offer a great selection of salsas so you can customize your tacos just the way you like them. Highly recommend! Lengua Tacos, I added salt, green salsa, red hot oil, and lime. Fish taco was perfect the way it came, with a little bit of lime. Asada Tijuana taco, hot oil and lime, and wow that was perfect. The burrito, Lengua, well my son enjoyed every bite. "Dad this was the best so far". Come try for yourself, I almost didn't because of some bad review. You must try. The service is also great. The server came to check on us multiple times. In the most random spot... this gem of a Mexican spot exists. Coming all the way from San Diego, we made a pit stop here because it was the name of our favorite taco back home. Coming in.. it reminded me exactly like home. NorCal gets a little sketch... heck.. Mexican food gets a little sketch north of the 10 freeway. This is my first experience with La Palapa, and it was a good one. I was greeted promptly as if I was the only one in the room. After a few questions I decided to take it to go so I skipped a burrito and chose the special, Birria de Res with rice and beans. As you can see it's a very hearty portion almost enough for two. The rice was good and the beans cheesy. I was very impressed with the salsa, it may be the best not tomatillo based one. Everything was there in ample proportion and well made. We took a tour of northern California and southern Oregon and were able to find eateries in various places along the way thanks to the interwebs. Several were good, but La Palapa was the best. What were road trips like in the old days? How did we find places to stop and eat other than by.... stopping and eating and hoping for the best? Our order was by no means out of the ordinary: two carne asada burritos, a chile relleno burrito, and a couple of veggie sope. But the food was SO good. Everything tasted amazing and fresh. The restaurant is pretty nondescript from the outside, a few blocks east of Highway 1. We rolled in on a Thursday midafternoon. It's a small space, with fewer than ten tables. There were several people in there at the time, but we were seated quickly, and the service was attentive and friendly. It's definitely a go-again if we are in the area. read more

Great local place to eat. Traveling through on motorcycles, my brother and I stopped here based on the reviews, and it was a solid lunch. All the other dishes were great, I had a combo plate with a fried shredded beef taco (Tex Mex/San Diego style) and a very solid pork tamale. Daughter had a very flavorful birria. The carne asada for my youngest.....my lord. She got the carne asada plate with a huge mound of steak, pan fried thin potatoes, and a grilled jalapeño. Was really disappointed in the food and the service. I asked for 1 extra salsa cup and the server was trying to charge me $1 for a tiny portion, even after leaving a good tip mind you. My wife, daughter and I were spending the weekend in Fort Bragg and my wife wanted Mexican food for her birthday dinner. Looking at options in the area we decided La Palapa had good reviews, so off we went. It's a small little place and all tables were full, with a mix of locals and tourists. This was a good sign. Menu selection was respectable and prices excellent. As soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly by the staff. I'm guessing this is a family run restaurant and it shows. My daughter has special needs and they treated her like gold. Even if the food wasn't good, the service was really awesome and left us with good memories. As it turns out the food was very good. My wife and daughter both had quesadillas which were big and tasty. I had the carnitas meal which was cooked to perfection and came with ample sides. We were definitely full by the end of the meal. Thanks to La Palapa, we really enjoyed our first evening in the area. While this restaurant is a little bit off the main drag, it's worth the detour and we recommend it highly! read more
