We have an abundance of Mexican food in Fort Bragg but not ones with bars, there are two. Most of the reviews, including mine, are of the other place. I want to rave about La Playa! First they have margaritas too and awesome even well ones. They have amazing service with a staff that loves to serve, they know the meaning of customer service. The food is spectacular as well. They have a creative menu that can find something for everyone. I'll be back because they are the only one I found with Buche, or Pork Belly and it is heavenly. I hope that you give these guys a chance, whether a local or tourist, you won't be sorry. Oh and they have a takeout window as well so you don't even need to get out of the car. read more

Their food was so yummy! We stayed at the hotel in the same parking lot so it was in a very convenient location. I didn't feel like a veggie burrito so they had no problem making me some vegan tacos. Tonight I decided I would mix it up with 3 tacos of the Carne Asada type. The mango margarita was one of the best I have had in my life, I highly recommend to try one. It'd been a few years since we tried La Playa, They had moved since then. When we drove up to the building, you'd have thought it was closed by the condition of the windows. They could use a good cleaning. We were seated and I ordered a Cadillac Margarita and she got a Vodka Cran. Not much wrong there. Chips and Salsa....We thought the salsa could've been a bit spicier with more texture. I ordered a shredded chicken verde enchilada with a flour tortilla, R & B's. She ordered a crispy ground beef taco and a shredded chicken enchilada with a flour tortilla a la cart. The presentation was nice and I immediately tried the R & B's. I thought they were both great. Good flavor in the beans. I liked the rice as well. The enchilada was full of chicken but it didn't seem to be made in house. The verde sauce lacked any heat at all but I thought it was tasty. My wife said the ground beef taco had zero flavor and the enchilada's chicken got the same review as mine. Also said the sauce didn't seem homemade. Cost of the meal was around $50.00. Over half was for the drinks. The waitress said that they were trying to sell the business and hope someone will buy it and keep it going. We are a group of 6 and pretty picky about mexican food. I must say we were pleasantly surprised about the quality of the food. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were very reasonable while the entree sizes were large. At our table we had fajitas , enchiladas, burritos and carne asada. After having seafood along Noyo River for a few days, we wanted to try something different. We went around 1pm so they only serve soups at the time. We had Menudo, Birria, and Carne en su jugo. Traveling back from Oregon, we stayed here in Fort Bragg. after being on the road all day and getting everything set up in the campground, no one felt like cooking. We saw the sign for La Playa and decided to come in. Staff: very friendly & welcoming. The owner cracked jokes with my Tio for being a Dodgers fan. The owner engaged conversations with everyone in the room and made them feel comfortable and happy to be there. Our server must have been his son, he was very attentive and went above and beyond, he was always on top of things. **give the guy a raise** Food: was on point and authentic. The beans reminded me of how my great grandmother use to make them. The rice was good. Everyone enjoyed the food and had no problems with anything. After reading reviews I expected more. We ordered taco salads. The bowls, tortilla, were over cooked and mine was greasy. And I probably would have never even left this review if my day hadn't been what it has been today, and then this just threw me over the edge. But damn dude. Every single time I order menudo to go and ask for flour tortillas, they ALWAYS give me corn. I would say maybe 90 percent of the time they give me corn. Short read: overpriced, below average tasting Mexican food in a noisy, crowded, kitchen table-like setting (I'm not sure what this building used to be but seemed like an old style small Sizzler type that has been through a few transitions and had better days). Visited on a Saturday evening and it was very crowded, but we were lucky and got a table without much of a wait. It might have been that the wait staff was overextended, but the Formica table was just wiped clean and two forks placed without napkins underneath. I tossed those into the tortilla chip tray after we emptied it and we got a new set of forks with napkins. Odd in that there were no knives or spoons. I had the steak fajita wrap that was on special for $10.95 and my wife had two cheese enchiladas with beans and rice for $12.95. Prices are high for quantity and quality. The fajita wrap was decent and priced about right. The beans and rice with the enchiladas were beneath Tack Bell standards and the enchiladas were just average - something expected for under $9, but not at $13. There were a lot of house specialty dishes featuring seafood for prices around $26+ a plate which would be expected in a more upscale setting like Maya Fusion further up the street. read more

What an amazing gem! This is legit Mexican food, passed down through generations. You can tell by the delicious food (ahem chips & salsa), of course, but honestly what sealed it for me was the margaritas. They have a full bar and can make whatever you want, but I'm telling you, go for the margaritas and you don't regret it. Another plus if they're dog friendly and the location is awesome -- very close to the beach. I came with a few friends and we posted up for over an hour simply to soak in more of the atmosphere. Spoke to the bartender and the whole joint is family owned for all 12 year they've been open from their grandmother down -- love supporting small businesses like this. Traveling outside of Central and Southern California and finding delicious Mexican food can be hit or miss. This place is a genuine hit. In addition to the good food, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The outdoor dining is great and pet friendly, so this place is a complete win.
