My family and I come here often and have had a great experience. The service was very good and each time we have been there, they have been courteous, prompt, and polite. The food is very good as well. It is basic but they do basic well in my opinion. Our kids are 4 and 6 and they love it. They ask for this restaurant by name. Two people in our party really enjoyed their chile verde. My order was mixed up with another person at our table, so I wound up with chicken instead of steak & she had steak instead of chicken. One margarita was forgotten for another person at our table & it didn't come out until we were almost done eating. It was very busy, and service was quite slow. Waitstaff was friendly. La palapa too has great food and cozy atmosphere. The free chips and salsa are very good. My wife always orders the burro loco which is fantastic! I mean what's not to like, it's a burrito smothered in cheese. I most recently got the tres combination with a chicken taco, beef tostada and pork burrito chiquito which was very good. Wash that down with a Cadillac margherita and your good to go. The kids enjoyed the chicken quesadilla. read more

Impressively disgusted by this restaurant which manages to have hair in everything from chips and salsa, to a pina colada, cooked into chicken, and also in tacos. Upon complaint of said hair the manager continues to berate my party about how absurd it would be that there was hair in everything. Never going back. In the rare chance you don't find a hair or a bug in your food check the vegetables which will most likely be expired, like say brown cucumbers or wilted old lettuce. read more

I frequent this location often because it is so close by, but the sole reason I keep going back is because of the food, NOT the service. I have tried a large portion of the menu, and whether it's the guacamole appetizer, the steak quesadillas, or the California burrito, I have not yet been disappointed. However, when it comes to service, I have been extremely dissatisfied. Four friends and I recently went to La Palapa Too and were sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant. The five of us hadn't seen each other in a while, so we were content chatting at first. However, pretty soon 3 minutes became 5 minutes became 7 minutes and I began seriously wondering the whereabouts of our server. A waitress eventually walked by our table and I said, "Excuse me, could you please send over our server?" She looked a bit confused for a second but then had a look of clarity, "Oh," she began, "I'm sorry! I AM your server! Yes, you are in my section, I just must have missed you....." We were FIVE PEOPLE in the MIDDLE of the restaurant! And I have been a server for a long time folks, so whenever I accidentally missed a table, I did the classic, "Oh, let me find out who your server is" then I'd come back and make it seem like I was taking over someone else's section who missed them so that the table wouldn't think I was a complete moron for missing them. This woman at La Palapa admitted right away that she just plain didn't see us and walked by us at least 10 times. in general, when I attend La Palapa, I barely see my server the entire night and usually have to look around for him/her to get more chips, a refill, or the check. I have had servers hand me a straw with their bare hands (it should be given in a napkin if there is no wrapper), I have had my appetizers and food come out at the exact same time, and I have been given chips/salsa before drinks. I am irritated with the service every single time I go; If the food wasn't so friggen delicious, I would not return. read more

I decided to give this place a try in spite of the poor reviews, but I was so wrong. The margaritas are good and the cheapest I have seen, but the service is just slow , in fact very slow. Takes 30 minutes for a starter to come out. The place is busy and I guess because of which the bartenders are overwhelmed and the owners does not care. Having recently moved to the area, this was my first visit to La Palapa Too. The restaurant itself is nicely appointed and inviting so I was optimistic and looking forward to my meal, that I ordered for takeaway. I ordered the Camarones ala Mexicana, which according to the menu was served with rice. When I got home and opened my bag, there was no rice. I would have called, but I didn't feel like going back out and when I was there, albeit very early evening, the staff already seemed overwhelmed with the phone and guests as they began to arrive. Despite what appeared to be adequate staff, no one seemed to be in control of the front desk. I know "rice" sounds like a small thing, but when one pays $22 for an entree, one expects the dish to be complete. What I did received was tasty, but it'd have been better atop the rice. I want to go back for Dia de los Muertos but I am reluctant to see what it's like there when it's really busy. read more

Can you give negative stars? Never written a review before. Downloaded the Yelp app just to list how terrible our service was tonight! A party of 8, easy going girls, out after class... 5 of us originally seated - No additional attention once we sat, no water refills, had to ask for chips & salsa, my drink order was wrong, never got my dinner (a single taco), was told " it's still sitting back there if I want it" (15/20min later after the rest of our party finished their meal) - instead of offering to make me a fresh taco, brought me a margarita to "make up for it" which I refused because I hadn't eaten & didn't want to feel terrible the next day. At the beginning of our night we let the server know we had 3 birthdays at our table & he said he'd take care of us... Never heard about it again. Had to ask repeatedly for salsa, sour cream, limes, etc. throughout our meal. When we finally got the bill, they added a 20% gratuity even though we complained to the manager and two of us didn't eat. Never eating here again!! read more

This place wasn't bad as everyone is making it out to be. I've wanting to come here because I've heard nothing but great stuff from my friends. We sat at the bar to watch thursday night football, they have a huge screen with the volume up, which is always nice. Our bartender Emily and server Herman were super sweet. The food was really good, we had a burrito, I can't remember the name, the stuffed jalapeno poppers and the ceviche. The only thing I had a problem with and didn't enjoy much was the ceviche, but it was only because it came with cucumbers, and I'm not a huge fan of it. This restaurant is fantastic. The ambiance is very nice and the prices are very reasonable. More importantly, the food is EXCELLENT. They have the best margaritas that I have tasted. The wait staff is beyond reproach. I met the owner, Carolina, who takes great pride in her restaurant and rightfully so. I went for happy hour with 6 of my coworkers last week. The service was awful and so was the food. I asked our waiter for a chicken quesadilla with onions and tomatoes and he made a big deal out of it being different than what was on the menu. He then served me a chicken quesadilla with broccoli, carrots, and zucchini in it. I had to ask the food runner to bring me another one. The second one I got was undercooked and gross. My bill ended up being $10.59 and I paid with a $20. I asked for change and I needed to hunt down my waiter because he thought I was tipping him the leftovers. We went for dinner on a Tuesday night. Seated quickly since we had made a reservation. Bus person came by and gave us a small bowl of chips and even smaller serving of salsa. Waited 20 minutes for a waiter to come over to take our order. After we ordered I asked if we could get a bit more salsa to go with the remaining chips. Server said that he would have to charge us 50 cents for the salsa as they don't do free refills. Keep in mind we had just ordered $40 of food and $15 in drinks. We asked to speak to manager...he came over said that is the policy...didn't seem to care if we liked it or not. When drinks came they were VERY small...margarita and sangria...but cost was $7 a piece. Food came out slowly...portions quite small and not at all that outstanding. All in all a disappointing experience for a $50 dinner. Would NOT recommend to anyone. There are other choices in the area! Update to my review above. The owner added her comment and apology for the terrible service to my review. What she didn't say was that she was going to DO anything about the problems this place has across the board. The bad to mediocre reviews are many for the service, drinks AND food. I should have listened to the others on this site who have had similar experience as we did. The owner's lackluster explanation and seemingly insincere apology don't sway my impression of this venue. STAY AWAY...the owners don't really care what you think. As long as they are getting unsuspecting new customers to come and eat, they have no incentive to improve. read more

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. The parking lot was packed because there's a lot of restaurants in the same shopping center (ended up parking across the street), but we didn't have to wait for a table. Our drinks and appetizers came quickly. It took a little longer for our entrees to come, but our waitress was also handling a couple of large parties (not her fault, she was great, but maybe her managers could've done a better job spreading the staff around). Loved all the food we ordered. I couldn't get enough of the queso. I had the chicken cantina, and it was great. Flavorful and well-cooked. My boyfriend and I have been at the Laurel location many times and usually had enjoyed the menu. The last two visits had been of disappointment for us, especially last night when after more than 45 minutes and we asking and asking what was going on, they brought the food...tortilla soup which was almost room temperature and Rainbow Trout a la Mantequilla which was the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. Both, my boyfriend and I, think they did not have the trout, got only God knows what and cooked it in the worst possible way....it was slimy, goey, horrible! My wife and I visited some friends and they brought us here for dinner and drinks. The service was ok but the food was absolutely awful. The place was gimmicky and over priced. The rice and beans looked cracked and dry like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for a while and my wife's margarita didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it. The enchiladas were mushy and bland. Overall the experience left much to be desired, if it weren't for the great company we brought we might've left. Tiny portions for the price and not the best quality food. I got the steak fajita last night and I couldn't finish it. Not because it was a lot but because it was upsetting my stomach after 3 bites. all of the ingredients were unimpressive especially the rice and beans. I asked for a little bit of cheese to sprinkle on top. I wished the waitress would have told me the 2 tablespoons worth of shredded cheese would be nearly $2 additional. I would have passed. So my meal came to roughly $18 and I left hungry and disappointed. Alero in DC knows how to do fajitas . . .huge portions and high quality ingredients, yet it's cheaper!!! Would not recommend. Seriously, this place is ungodly awful. And, for those of you who've left 4 or 5 stars for this place, I'm genuinely concerned for your collective palates. This place serves overpriced Mexican-esque food in a strip mall. For more on that point, see my review of Facci's in the same strip. A. Our server was downright rude, condescending and ignorant. After we had plenty of time to look over our menus, he glanced over at us and continued tending to another table. Not until I signaled to him that we were ready did he come over to take our orders. Once he eventually brought us our food, he never even inquired to see if we needed anything else or if our food was OK. B. Understanding that what I ordered wasn't exactly on the menu, it's not too difficult to put two items together. Basically, I ordered their Mexican Salad and an order of ceviche, to have on top of the salad. When I ordered, I was told that I would have to pay for two full orders, which I was happy to do - until, of course, my food showed up. What La Palapa Too passed off for salad was wilted bagged mixed greens, long past their freshness and on the verge of trash-bound. Their "ceviche" was even worse. Instead of tasting fresh, clean and lightly citrus-cured, it tasted of pure lime juice, and not fresh at all. Even more surprising was the amount served, which was according to the waiter "a full order." One clam, a few tiny pieces of undisclosed fish, a few pieces of calamari and a brick ton of onions and tomatoes was what they passed off as ceviche. I suppose, in hindsight, I really wouldn't have wanted any more anyway. C. My wife's beef soft tacos looked like they were made with Gaines Burgers and wrapped in a soft taco that just came from the supermarket. D. The Sangria is terrible. A few tiny pieces of fruit tossed into some bad jug-wine is what they try to pass off as sangria. Absolutely not worth the $6. E. I was in the middle of a business meeting when they rudely decided that it was time for them to go home, and, accordingly, me to leave, too. So they started flickering the lights - signaling GTFO. I was happy to oblige at that point, and they can rest assured that I won't return. N.B.: Read their reviews in a chronological order. You'll note that their reviews are proceeding steadily downhill. I first went to La Palapa Too a few years ago. The service was horrible and the meals were pricey. The kids' meal was skimpy. I complained and the owner sent me a $10 gift certificate to try it again. I never used the gift certificate, but went back again a couple weeks ago because Facci was too crowded. This was on a Thursday evening. Again, the food was overpriced, my daughter's quesadilla was burned and crispy, my son's taco was on a hard shell instead of the soft one we made a special point of ordering, and it took a long time to get our food. Two chances is all they get. People either love or hate this place- I hate it! I will go to Pachanga in Ellicott City. It's soo much better!! read more

Don't even think about going if you expect to have good service. This is the worst service I have experienced and it is bad every time. What's worse is the arrogance of the manager who laughs and then gets angry at you for insulting his waiters. In fact the manager is very high tempered and flat out rude and abrasive. Excellent Food, Margaritas & pretty much EVERYTHING!! Since my wife and I first started to date (2005) La Palapa Too has been a favorite for us; we go at least once a week. Literally all dishes are great. For us it's always hard to order because we know we should try something different but our favorites are so-o good! Service is always wonderful; the kitchen is obviously well-managed. Drink specials are definitely outstanding, & live mariachi band every Friday it's always a plus! Five stars is not enough! I love it and highly recommend it. And now, they're going to have a "Cinco de Mayo Fiesta" every 5th of the Month!!!!!! We're so there! read more
