    Ultimate Fajitas
    Val G.

Came here for a friends birthday and it was very good. My wife and I shared the Ultimate Fajitas and we still allowed some of the "ever hungry" teens enjoy some of the fajitas too. Big big servings. The service was great and they kept the chip and salsa coming. We were very appreciative about that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is huge and still the parking was full so you know this place is good; when you have the place full on a Tuesday night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Stopped here for lunch on our Route 66 road trip. William was a wonderful waiter and the lunch specials were great! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We stopped because the outside of the restaurant had very interesting architecture and caught our eye.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside was interesting too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were told that originally it was a fruit stand back in the day when the area was surrounded by orange groves.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

1 enchilada c when there should be 2. Yes TWO enciladas

I always order food to go. The last few times they have completely screwed up the order. Who ever is naking and putting g yhe food together is not paying attention. I'm paying WAY TO MUCH MONEY FOR THE FOOD FOR THEM NOT TO GET IT RIGHT! I ordered Enchilada Supremas combo which comes with 2 yes TWO Enchiladas. Well they only gave me one. It has consistently gone down hill since the one manager died of cancer. There are other good Mexican restaurants in the area.

The amount of flavor on this Burrito was amazing. I ordered the Ranchero burrito, you must try! I was very nervous on what to try here, it being my first time but let me tell you. Also the customer service was excellent. The server Jacob was so attentive, helpful and came to check on us making sure we had everything and drinks filled. Thank you for the amazing service definitely coming back.

Headed out to celebrate a great victory and we wanted to try another Mexican joint than the one we normally go to. La Paloma's sign beacons kitschy charm from a bygone era. So does its interior. With paintings of Spanish missions, an imposing rock fireplace and classic clay tile floors. It's very cozy and reassuring. Now things got off to a rocky start, we were promptly sat and given chips and salsa, but no one came to take our drink orders for a solid 10 minutes. (Which was problematic due to the spice level of the salsa and my weakness) We contemplated walking out. Finally I summoned my inner Karen and asked a nice lady bussing tables if we had a server assigned to us. She took the initiative and promptly took our drink order herself (promote her). Now my husband's margarita was SUPER STRONG, so maybe that was the bar trying to make it right. But it was too strong, it didn't have the proper flavor. But once our server finally showed up we ordered and received our food very promptly. And it was AMAZING. First off we ordered the street taco appetizer, which may have been a mistake, because they were SO HEARTY AND DELICIOUS that when my entree finally came I had little appetite left. But everyone at the table was SO happy with their meals. My daughter INHALED her BRC burrito and my husband RAVED about his chimichanga, even the next day when he reheated his leftovers. I got the cilantro Lime chicken, and it was so very tender, but I probably wouldn't order it again because the flavor was not quite what I was expecting, it was kinda sweet, but still really good. Finally the beans and rice were a tad bland, just needed a little salt, but I set a lot of store by the beans and rice at a Mexican plate. They should be perfect. All in all I would def give this place a chance to earn those other two stars back!

First off, I have to say I have been patronizing this restaurant since 1978 when I was just 16. I live 1.5 hours away now, but even when living out of state and coming for visits, I would often come here! Today I wanted to take my Mom to lunch, and it was exceptional start to finish. The hostess was very pleasant, even though I joked about them being out of the tamales that were offered as a special on their erase board! She did offer to check if I really wanted them for lunch and said they might have one of two left in the kitchen on the way to our table. Then we had the pleasure of being served by JoJo! What a truly pleasant experience! We had a 20 out of 10 experience. All Customers should be received the way she greeted us. From start to finish she was a shining star. 99.9% of servers could learn something from her nowadays! Now I have to speak about our meals...so, so delicious! I had the shredded beef chimichanga and my Mom had the enchilada supreme lunch but with red sauce. My Mom, talked about it all afternoon until I left this evening! Fresh, hot and delicious served up by JoJo ! What a memorable afternoon! So happy La Paloma is still around after all these years!

March 20, 2025. There are many excellent Mexican restaurants in Southern California and then you have La Paloma. It doesn't get any better than the food here. Top of the line. Yes, a lot of other Mexican restaurants are good but they are not special. They will get the job done if you are hungry, but they're not special. They're mostly all very average in the way they do things in the kitchen. That's the difference with La Paloma. I'm lucky enough to have a grown-up in this area so I have been coming to the La Paloma since the 1970s. It's the real deal people. That's all you need to know.

I've been coming here since I was a kid. The food is still delicious and the margaritas are slow to catch up with you lol. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only thing I didn't like was the remodel and the new booth and tables. The place has lost its comfy and intimate feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The old red booths were so comfy and the area by the kitchen it just too open now.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is as I remember it from the 70s though. The service was friendly and prompt BTW

Ordered two tostadas. They were the worst tostadas I've ever had. Ground beef was horrible, so was the pork. Don't recommend La Paloma.

But some shady charges or maybe we'll call it miscommunication just rubbed me the wrong way. I always order the mole chicken enchiladas and my wife (being vegetarian) asks for the same dish but if the enchiladas can be vegetable or cheese. Apparently this means a 8$ up charge? We've done this many times in the past and always been charged the same price for both. I asked the server at the end "the veggie version is 8$ more expensive than chicken?" And he just shrugged and said yes. Just found it interesting that a meat dish would be 8$ less than a purely cheese/veggie dish. Especially since done this in the past with no issue. I also asked for "hot sauce" for my dish. They brought out a spicier house salsa as the hot sauce...totally understandable and the salsa here is usually free. Apparently it's a 4$ "chipotle sauce" that the waiter did not inform me would be charged. I would've easily just said I want tapatio or no "hot sauce". I used maybe a teaspoon for 4$. I told the waiter this when we questioned the bill and he just shrugged. These may seem like small inconveniences but when they seem like they intentionally don't tell you the details and then when called out about it just kinda shrug it off, it was a disappointing end to an otherwise tasty dinner. We love it here and will certainly be back but it just sucks that I have to be extra cautious & skeptical when ordering from now on.

Nevertheless, the cashier was super friendly and even brought my food and drink out to my table. I was delighted to discover just how generous the meat portions were in the chicken, carnitas, al pastor, and buche tacos! The meat was practically overflowing at times, which I definitely appreciated since sometimes it can feel like you're eating more tortilla than filling haha. In the moment, I only managed to eat 2 of my 4 tacos and ended up saving the other 2 for later. Still just as good! As for the Cucumber Lime Agua Fresca, I loved how huge the cup was, and it was indeed super refreshing. Perfect for a hot day!! Overall, I enjoyed how spacious the restaurant was inside. Not spectacular or phenomenal Mexican food but decent. My biggest problem with this place is they are way too slow. You can come late in the afternoon after the lunch rush-hour and they are still way slow with only just two or three tables with people. Seriously too slow. No excuse for this other than management is NOT on top of their game. They need to step it up or they or they are going to lose business. You can't operate like this let alone in a downtown environment.

After trying Chef José's Zacatecan style fare, consider a new addition bullseyed and pinpointed! I'd stumbled in here a few nights ago- Mexico had just defeated a hearty South Korea squad in their second WC game, clinching the Group for El Tri and creating a palpable buzz among the Green/Orange & Red clad partisans who'd thronged El Ranchero... Leti and I shared a bowl of hearty Albondigas Soup to start- This is probably the finest restaurant take on the soup we've ever sampled! Most places will serve watery, tomato/carrot dense broths w/ a nominal, wan meatball. Not El Ranchero! Here, the soup is lovingly ladled w/ copious amounts of carrot, onion, cabbage and yes even a trio of meatballs. Hearty, decadent soup! We also shared a Jamaica Margarita. On the plus side it's $13 tab is decently priced- but if we are honest the drink was weaker than the Trump Administration is on corruption! Leti chose Shrimp Fajitas, which arrived steaming...Multiple fat shrimp partying w/ grilled onions + peppers. I went w/ a two item combo- A fantastic duo of machaca filled enchilada y taco. The machaca was everything you love re: that protein- Stringy, crispy and well seasoned. Xochitl was our server on this late SAT afternoon as the sun began its lazy descent to the western horizon. The rest of the restaurant staff were busily prepping the banquet room for a graduation party- So poor Xoxhitl was jamming like a trio of cats playing w/ a dozen mice. She was even mixing drinks in between serving her sextet of tables! Pro Tip- You can add a side salad or soup to most entrees for $3.99- Just ask! Our bill was $84 and for two plentiful entrees, a large if wan margarita and a side of wondrous, soul-warming soup...plus tax and tip. It's very easy to see why El Ranchero Claremont is a buzzing hub of its community- We've added El Ranchero to our must-visit Mexican staples. So should you.
