Nevertheless, the cashier was super friendly and even brought my food and drink out to my table. I was delighted to discover just how generous the meat portions were in the chicken, carnitas, al pastor, and buche tacos! The meat was practically overflowing at times, which I definitely appreciated since sometimes it can feel like you're eating more tortilla than filling haha. In the moment, I only managed to eat 2 of my 4 tacos and ended up saving the other 2 for later. Still just as good! My biggest problem with this place is they are way too slow. You can come late in the afternoon after the lunch rush-hour and they are still way slow with only just two or three tables with people. Seriously too slow. No excuse for this other than management is NOT on top of their game. They need to step it up or they or they are going to lose business. You walk into a simple restaurant layout with a few tables outside. You order your food and they take the food to your table. The cashier was pleasant and provided excellent service to my wife and I. The prices are on the higher end but they do provide a good sized portion. I ordered the Queso Birria Tacos and my wife ordered an Asada Flaming Hot Burrito. Additionally, we got a Michiagua de Pina (Sweetened Drink of Pineapple w/Michelada Sauce) to share. The tacos looked delicious and the cheese was crispy around the taco. The birria was packed inside taco itself which I was happy about considering the price. Unfortunately, the meat was bland which was disappointing. I only tasted the onion, cilantro, cheese and the sauce. I wouldn't recommend the queso birria tacos for this reason. My wife's Asada burrito was really good. The meat was soft and was full of flavor. The meat paired well with the Mexican rice, beans and hot Cheetos. I would definitely recommend the burrito. The drink was also delicious. The miche sauce mixed with the pineapple juice was a perfect blend of spice and sweet. I gave this place a 3 star review due to the bland meat in my tacos. On Friday, there were only three staff members working--a cook, a cashier, and one other employee. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet it still took close to an hour to receive our food. Thinking it might have been an isolated issue, we returned on Saturday. While it was busier due to local graduation events, the wait was even worse. We waited well over an hour (and that is not an exaggeration) for our order. Several customers became frustrated, requested refunds, and left without receiving their food. The food itself is good, but it simply isn't worth the extraordinary wait times. I honestly wonder who owns this place or why a restaurant would choose to operate with such limited staffing. Downtown La Verne has so many options. I'm a fan of Mexican food so I dropped in this place. It's nice and spacious inside. Simple layout with a very clear and bright menu. They have a self service monitor where you can order or you can order at the counter with the staff. The food was good nothing mind blowing but it is quality meat. I wasn't a fan of the sauce in the California burrito it caught me off guard. The habanero salsa has a good kick and great flavor. The horchata was good but we aren't here to rate the aguas frescas. I was excited to try this taco place out for their bird Birria tacos. I got carne asada tacos for my son and I got the queso Birria and Birria fries. The carne asade had not flavor and very bland. I don't know if they're understaffed or what but they're typically not super busy and still take a long time to make the food. They were newer so I was trying to give them some time and thought maybe growing pains and needed time to dial in their operations but now that they are getting a little busier the food takes forever! Ambience is crowded and disheveled and unorganized. When they to turn on the jukebox, it's too loud to even have a conversation. Maybe this was a soft opening, but actually received the worst service. Extremely disorganized and nobody knows what they're doing. I waited in line for a while, and when I got up to the register, they told me to take a seat that someone would take my order. Never saw a server for a while. Several families behind us proceeded to order at counter and sat down. They actually got their food before us. I advised the staff that we hadn't received any orders and all their excuse was that they are backed up. The female employee in the red hat appeared to make sure her friends or family were served their food first before several people that were in front. An hour and a half of waiting and my 4yr old daughter was hungry. We were about to walk out. It was then that we did receive our food that was not even worth it. We couldn't even enjoy the food. We left, paid and left a bunch of tacos on the table. We went to a fast food drive thru on our way home. We are regular customers here, specifically on taco Tuesdays. The food, specifically their chili verde deserves a good 4/5 stars with their pastor deserving 3.5/5. I've had better pastor but for the price, I'm content with these flavors. My suggestion for the pastor is to add more flavor and minimize the water build up which make the pastor taste bland, thus taking away from the flavor. My boyfriend enjoys the chicken 4/5. The servers are a 5/5. Very sweet and kind. One of them has even remembered our order. They're always so accommodating and attentive when they can. Suggestions bc we enjoy coming and support small business: -Minimize the wait time. Too many workers to be taking this long for tacos. Have one taking out orders, distribute the chips and salsa, ... establish a system that's more efficient. What is established does not work for the busy days. I think the wait time will sabotage your Yelp reviews...definitely a growth area. This establishment has a lot of potential.
