I didn't realize until we left that this is sea themed as they have a lot of seafood in the menu. Food: The chips and salsa were ok. The green sauce was spicy which I liked. But the chips were pretty stale. My soda was also flat. They have Pretty good customer service. Checked on us when needed. Again, if you love to eat spicy, The green sauce and pepper were spicy, which we love. The birria was really yummy but they did not give enough consume. So we decided to try the weekend buffet today for the first time. The ambience is casual and pretty much quiet. Not at all busy. The setup is good but the food is not hot temperature wise and nobody is going around mixing things up. The pozole is just ok, needs flavor and less fat because it's greasy and gets cold quickly. The shrimp rice is tasty but again mildly warm not hot. The fish flautas were brought out as we arrived and were hot. The ceviche was not even put into a container to keep it cold. The fish dishes looked dried out but did taste good. No fried shrimp, cold French fries and fish. The owner was there as well as one waitress who hardly came by to check on us. For desserts they had watermelon. No Mexican bread, churros or anything else which they previously had on the buffet. Watermelon was good though. Thank God I had my Tajín with me. I'm not sure if I'd come back for the buffet even though their prices were good. I'll have to think about the next time. Nice place though, quite and calm. I drive by this place on the way to work and watched as they built this place. I feel like I watched it grow. Coworkers would often comment about going there and finally we went today. The anticipation culminated in some high expectations. It was not the traditional Mexican food I was expecting. When I read the sign "coastal Mexican food", it all made sense. I didn't see beef or chicken on the menu: strictly seafood from what I could tell. I tried a little bit of everything and it was wonderful. The flavors took me back to my adventures in Cabo San Lucas. The decor is beautiful, I felt like I was in Mexico. But the food really drives it home. I tried ceviche tostadas with fish and another with octopus: both were excellent. With the chips and salsa, they brought a sampling of caldo de marisco (seafood soup) and it was also delicious. For the main course, I thoroughly enjoyed "La Panga" fish entree. The fish was magnificently done. It was moist and juicy. The aroma was so inviting. It's covered in sautéed onions. I happen to hate onions normally, so I asked them to sauté the crap out of the onions and they did. Well done chef, I ate every one of those onions. That means a lot considering I despise onions. All in all, the place is great. Don't come looking for regular Mexican food though, you won't find anything but seafood. The ambiance was nice, the decor is beautiful, and the food is amazing. Came for Sunday brunch which also happened to be Mothers' Day brunch. We ate well and left happy. Coastal Mexican cuisine is the game with plenty of seafood options on offer. Plenty of fresh and bright ceviches were the star of the meal. But if you prefer cooked options there's plenty of grilled fish and fried seafood offerings plus sides like salads and grilled corn. The buffet comes with a choice of agua fresca too. Some cakes and fruit to round off the meal with something sweet but it's the seafood that's the star. Limited English but the staff are friendly. The menudo is a festival of flavor, there are several egg / chilaquiles / potato options. A wonderfully warm and sweet Mexican lady is set up next to the buffet line making homemade tortillas de harina and maíz. She also will whip up made to order omelettes. Food took forever more than an hour. Granted I did get fried fish and that does take longer. The waitress said 20-25 minutes not an hour 20 min. The shrimp cocktail was very soupy and tasteless, so was the shrimp ceviche. My daughter doesn't care for seafood so she got the fajita tacos. They were also bland and she bit into a bone that was the size of a quarter and almost broke her tooth. The service was very slow as well. Brought in for the stellar priced happy hour and left with a huge portion of ceviche. This place is a northern Mexican seafood restaurant. Their entire menu is hard to choose from. To start you are welcomed with a nice patio area chips and pretty spicy salsa. A nice seafood soup accompanies your entree which i consider a good touch. I opted for the fresh seafood mixed ceviche and was not disappointed. The panga that my fiend good was equally fresh and delicious. Enjoyed a buffet, now don't expect a huge selection of buffet, like when you go to eat Chinese buffet and they have 20 thousand items to choose from. It's small, but you have everything you need, from your meats, soups, drinks, ceviche, fruits, pan dulce, cookies, salad bar, and also a little set up were they prepare your tacos in front of you. I'm a pescatarian and don't eat meat, and they had a wide range of choices for me. They have a shrimp cocktail, several types of ceviche all wonderful. With the buffet came infused water. I had the watermelon, they also had pineapple and another flavor. It was very refreshing. 8/9/16 This was the 1st time I visited not on a Sunday. I had the almond crusted sea bass. It came with 2 sides. I chose refried black beans & a salad. The salad was fresh with romaine lettuce & diced mango with salad dressing. Yummy. The sea bass, oh my! The crust gave it a buttery taste. La Panga Coastal Cuisine is a pleasant surprise. A converted fifty or so year old house on Highway 3, it sits hidden under several trees next to a nondescript car wash. La Panga has a beautifully quaint exterior, including a large front porch perfectly suited for times other than Houston's 4-5 months of perpetual summers. The review below applies only to La Panga's Sunday brunch. Official posted hours say La Panga opens at 11 AM on Sundays but arriving around 11:10, I found the front porch still being mopped and the buffet brunch spread only partially ready. By 11:30, the staff had nearly everything ready. The interior of La Panga is evidence of an older home which has been converted for restaurant use. High ceilings, exposed beams, wood paneled walls and quaintly creaky wood floors. Fortunately no screaming babies or small groups of raucous children were running amok to test out the high ceiling acoustics. La Panga's brunch buffet spread is small but impressive. Skip the nondescript salad bar and go for the good stuff, starting with an offering of fresh fruit slices (cantaloupe and watermelon), soup and ceviche. Better yet, save the fruit for dessert. Main course selections included a slightly over salted but tasty baked fish (tilapia?), chicken mole, plus a huge platter of batter coated fried fish, chicken nuggets (!), french fries and fried shrimp. Equally as good is a large paella style pan of almost gumbo style seafood and rice. Yes, it's as good as it looks. Nearby is a grill for custom fajitas and soft tacos. Nothing is fancy but everything is both filling and good. Surprisingly one offering which is a standard of all Southern restaurants, iced tea, isn't offered at La Panga. La Panga serves Mexican drinks and huge glasses of soda pop. The best surprise of all is the soda drinks are included in the $20 buffet. No extra $2.50-$3.50 charge to pad the tab. Signs around the restaurant advertise a $10 weekday lunch buffet. Service is fast and attentive. La Panga is a bit slow in restocking its platter of fried fish and shrimp but there are plenty of other choices while waiting. As a seafood restaurant, one thing I noticed online is La Panga advertises octopus as one of its offerings. Unfortunately I didn't see any octopus on the Sunday buffet tables. Overall La Panga is not only a nice discovery but also a reasonable alternative to other both lower and higher end Sunday lunch buffets. I can't wait for the cooler months to try out their front porch. Easily 4.0 to 4.5 out of 5 stars. read more

This place is seriously a hidden gem!! Seriously! When we first arrived, we were greeted at the door and we asked to sit outside (it's rare to have a nice cool day in Houston). We sat down, the waiter placed the chips and salsa and holy bologna, the salsa was freaking good! I knew that once I tasted their salsa, their food was going to be just as good if not better. I then ordered an agua de sandia and damn! I haven't had one this good since I was in Mexico. My wife ordered the fried shrimp and I ordered al limon fish. This place doesn't deserve four and a half stars. Food and service were very mediocre at best. Arrived here at prime dinner time around 6:00 pm and the place was DEAD. We were the only customers the entire time. The chips and salsa that came out first were unacceptable. Small oily chips that didn't seem fresh and the salsa had hardly any ingredients or any zing to it. We each ordered the Everything Seafood cocktail which only had cut up pieces of shrimp in a thick nasty tomato purée. The fish fillet was decent and had a good taste but the class of fish that it was seemed very overpriced at $20 a plate. The service was hard to find and my beer glass was empty for a while on two different occasions. We were the only customers!!! Stopped here a few months ago when they first opened (they had only been open five days), and tore it up! This place is awesome. We were in the mood for some seafood and saw a sign that said "Coastal Mexican Cuisine", so we thought "Hey, why not?". Had the ceviche and it was loaded with fish, shrimp, scallops, and squid. Hands down best ceviche I've ever had. No BS! We had the special, which we were told was redfish, but didn't look like any redfish I've ever seen. But you know what? It didn't freaking matter, because it was one of the best fish I'd eaten in my life. Staff was very, very nice and extremely accommodating. It was more like a cabbage and onion taco. Red salsa and tortilla chips were good. Jalapeño salsa was way too hot and not enjoyable. $14.99 for a normal size chicken quesadilla!! As in a small breakfast sized tortilla. Rice was ok, keep in mind it was white rice. Beans were slightly burnt but at the same time not completely cooked. We were the only people that were eating at the restaurant. Food took over 25 minutes to get to the table. Restrooms were stocked with soap, tp and paper towels. Slightly dirty.
