Chips and salsa served table side when you eat in. Love it.

I think this is the second, maybe third location for these guys? I've been to the Allen location before and was pleased so figured I'd check this one out, which opened recently on Barbur. Different decor and layout but same sorta semi-tropical Mexico vibe, though this location has a big square room that's airier and brighter than the strip mall site would have you believe. It's a pleasant enough atmosphere but a pretty basic setup with just a few tables and some TVs on the walls, though the food they're putting out is impressive, both in portion and price. I had the straight chicken burrito - which was the size of small baby - and came loaded with beans, rice, cheese and meat. The salsa that came with wasn't all that impressive from a spice/flavor perspective but I still had to take half that burrito to go, there was so much of it. Delicious and filling, with a good proportion of savory meat to beans, though a bit too much rice for my liking. Bonus points for free chips and salsa served tableside. Thumbs up too for having a simple, welcoming environment with hearty meals at fair prices. I will definitely support them.

La Parrilla is fantastic! They have tons of stuff on their menu, but we have gone back twice for their burritos (and plan to go more). You can't go wrong with their breakfast burrito, Mexican burrito or the California burrito. Make sure to grab some of the salsas. Their orange salsa/sauce is smoky with the perfect amount of spice. Looking forward to dining in and trying a margarita. Staff is very friendly. Hope this place stays around for a long time! FINALLY some good Mexican food in southwest PDX!

Ordered the "guacamole and chipotle burrito" but asked for the chipotle on the side. The burrito didn't have any guacamole at all. The photo on the menu showed the guacamole on top with crema but it came with neither. Super disappointing for a $15 burrito that's literally just chicken, beans and rice. I did get the chipotle on the side but the whole reason I ordered this item was for the guacamole and then didn't know it wasn't included until I got home with it sadly. Maybe my request to have the chipotle on the side was misunderstood but I'm not sure how that results in missing two other ingredients from the order, but I will say the burrito was pretty good still considering it was a simple combo. I can tell their food is quality, despite being a bit expensive and not receiving what I ordered. They also only accepted cash or Venmo as payment, just as a heads up. Included is a pic of the burrito unrolled to show proof of no guac.

Both the fish and the prawns were cooked in a red sauce that was delicious! I meant to ask for blue corn tortillas but was so excited to find shrimp & fish tacos that weren't deep-fried that I forgot to ask for them. The regular corn tortillas were excellent, though, so it was not a bad mistake to make. I also had jamaica to drink and let me tell you... it was not made from a mix! It was dark, thirst-quenching, and perfectly made. Most jamaica is super sweet - this was not! I love the flavor of real hibiscus and this did not disappoint. My friends had chile relleno bowls and birria tacos, all of which was excellent. Their watermelon margaritas were tasty and refreshing! Our orders were taken by a helpful person at the cash register and the food was served quickly by a friendly server. The inside and outside areas were clean and tidy, with plenty of seating available at the outside tables. The outdoor seating area is under cover making it a good choice for both summer & winter dining. Definitely going on my "have to go back and try something else" list!

We ordered the Quekas with vegan chorizo and black beans and they were SO good, honestly a standout. The chips and guac were also a hit, and I loved that the guac was actually cold. Such a small detail that makes a big difference. The Citrus Salad was super fresh, crisp, and delicious, which balanced everything out perfectly. I also tried the NA classic margarita and it was so refreshing. I loved the subtle touch of orange juice. Overall, such a lovely spot with amazing food, great vibes, and thoughtful details. I will definitely be back!

For the amount of food and the overall experience, I thought it was a great way to experience the restaurant. Ángel took care of us and made the meal even more memorable by telling us the story and inspiration behind each dish as it came out. It made the tasting feel like much more than just trying a bunch of different dishes. I'm definitely a carnivore and usually feel like a meal needs some kind of meat, but surprisingly, my favorite dish was the mole with eggplant and rice. The mole was delicious, and I genuinely didn't miss having meat on the plate. I would happily order that dish again exactly as it was. The tomates en salsa arabe were another standout. I really enjoyed how fresh the dish tasted, especially with the seasonal tomatoes they were using. I also had the carnitas tacos, which had great flavor and texture. For dessert, we had what was essentially a fried concha, and I loved that it wasn't overly sweet. It had just the right amount of sweetness for me and was a great way to finish the meal. Overall, I highly recommend doing the full tasting menu at República. For around $40 per person, you get to experience the entire menu, and if you're lucky enough to have Ángel there to walk you through the stories and concepts behind the dishes, it makes the experience that much better.

Today my wife and I enjoyed scrumptious Tacotes, one chicken and one Bok Choy with house made salsa. Also, the Tetela de Requeson, maiz, beans and sprouting broccoli with a house made requeson - kind of like ricotta cheese - very beautifully plated and so delicious. Extra side of yummy and creamy black bean frijoles with sour cream, butter, tortillas. Instead of desert, the Mezcal, chile and lime was refreshing. Right now open for lunch Thursday through Sunday 10-3pm. No fixed menu, changes with what's fresh - the way chef Angel loves to cook respecting what is in season. Service and ambiance is friendly and knowledgeable about the food and its origin - another reason I love dining here so I learn about what I'm eating and how it was inspired. Yes, the food plated looks so good, I am inspired to dig in. There's a reason it was recognized early in its start by Eater, Portland Monthly and the Oregonian as one of the best restaurants in the city because foodies seek out and love to go where the food experience is special - especially the chef tasting menus in the past. Now I'm watchful and ready to go back and see what the chef Angel is serving up. What else is so special is Republica was a James Beard award nominee too!

Staff was welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. I read reviews about their complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip. We asked for the bean dip, but we found out when we received our bill that it's not complimentary anymore. Bummer. It was good, but not worth the extra $5. They were extremely generous with their chips and salsa, so in the end we were okay paying the extra $5. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and charbroiled burger. Both were great! Fresh ingredients. The quesadilla wasn't greasy at all. Neither were the chips! Our server recommended the pollo asada for my quesadilla and it was much appreciated.
