Bought some drinks when they were still open, no clue they were about to go under. Unfortunately, I don't think that's an excuse to shamelessly sell beer that expired years ago... I noticed upon taking a sip, emptied the rotten bottles, and went back to try to exchange them, bottles in hand. Woman at the counter rudely told me to leave.. Where do I start.. Don't come here if you're hungry because you'll have to wait 20-30 minutes for your drink, and then they bring you chips which weren't the greatest and they put it on our bill. Located in Fields Landing this place has huge flavors served up by a husband and wife team dedicated to being the premier seafood destination in humboldt...Mexican Style! From fresh ceviches, to cocktails, towers, planchet, they have a huge ammount of selection in the seafood category what's not to love? they even asked if I wanted shrimp in my michelada... straight bloody Mary style! and my michelada was delicious backed by modelo especial you can't go wrong. ohh and the beers... ok I didn't count but I saw what appeared to be over 10 taps with both domestic, local, and import...as well as a completely stocked fridge of bottles and cans... huge selection!!! then there is the food. with fresh handmade tortillas, salsas, masa, Carnes ect... they have everything. we got a small super nachos con cabeza, enchiladas con pollo a la crema, a large side of rice and beans, and fresh tortillas.. way more than enough.. we left stuffed... while fields landing may not be the first destination you think of as a foodie, trust me you indulge at la patria, and you will turn your headand wonder if they are open every time you drive by. cheers, and we'll done! But I was not satisfied with the food I ordered. The chili relleno had too much cheese! The rice was cooked perfectly. The beans were bland. The burrito had too much nacho cheese. It was an overkill. I only gave it 4 stars because only ate there twice so far. I had 2 shrimp mini tacos "to go "both times. I can tell you they were excellent . One time fresh grilled small prawns with cabbage and a red mayo type sauce. The second time I ordered same but with Cilantro onions and Serrano and lime instead of the cabbage one. It came with a grilled jalapeño on the side. Yum. The freshness and ingredient quality couldn't be better. Can't wait to go again and try something new . read more

It's unfortunate the old Whaler Inn closed but I'm glad to see another restaurant instead of another abandoned building. The food was decent, nothing great and pretty typical for Mexican restaurants but the portions were very generous and the price was quite reasonable. We had the beef enchiladas with green sauce which worked just as well as it would have with chicken. We ordered the crab enchiladas and the crema sauce was nice although the crab filling itself was a little dry. Finally we had the 7 Mares seafood soup which seemed a bit pricey but again was very generous with a lot of seafood, albeit a bit overcooked but with a good broth. The service was fair and it took a really long time to get our food despite only two other tables with customers. Considering there isn't a whole lot in the area we were pretty happy. read more

Starting off with complimentary bean dip with chips, YUM! I'm going to review as I eat. My margarita is perfect. Bean dip is very good and taste like homemade mashed beans. I really like the hand painted walls and theme. Fired Tilapia with rice and beans, going to enjoy. It was deliciously fired. Overall, I recommend a stop if ever in Eureka, CA. Hands down one of those quaint places you should make the effort to get to. Great food, fast service and all around good.

Hot tortilla chips & 2 kinds of homemade salsa accompany fresh bean dip when your seated. The owners are always welcoming and everyone they hire that has waited on us has been friendly and attentive. We've never had to wait and always walk away with a great experience. March was my birthday and since we are all in quarantine we ordered tons of food to go. You can order online and put notes to add or take away ingredients and or names for each item ordered. I made a final note thanking them for remaining open so we could still make my birthday special. Not only was each item wrapped according to order, and extra salsa included - but they sent along the most delicious slice of cheesecake with a candle! It was very special and unexpected. My favorite dish is the combo fajitas with the cheese enchilada on top. The burritos and chimichangas are huge! Thanks La Patria!!! read more

The $3.50 margaritas from 5-7 are what originally drew me to this place, and I was not disappointed. Especially for the price, they were much bigger than expected and not watered down. Our server was very friendly and they serve chips with green and red salsa options. The green salsa was delicious, and the red was spicy. We mixed them to get the best of both! I had a burrito and my partner had fajitas. Our food was cooked very well and their guacamole and pico de gallo where DELICIOUS. The prices were very reasonable and I think the portions are sizable for the price! Would definitely recommend! Food was just mediocre, wait was definitely long like others stated. Came in at 2:00pm on a Sunday. Seated for 30 mins before taking our order and another 30 minutes before the food came out. Most of the other patrons had cleared out by the time our food had arrived. The food was quite plain and nothing worth mentioning. Quite lacking in flavor; maybe it's because we're from Southern California where they have really good Mexican food. Not really a good stop on our Oregon/California coast road trip. Jesus this was some really good food! We weren't feeling the dining options in Eureka too much, and chose this place quickly because it was getting late and had the highest ratings of any place that was still open. The complimentary salsas that come with your meal were good. The mushroom empanada is massive and comes stuffed with plenty of cheese, with guacamole and sour cream on top. But that paled in comparison to the bacon wrapped shrimp: tender juicy shrimp with crispy bacon, guacamole, pico de gallo, rice and beans. The Aguachile Ceviche is also delicious: Large shrimp marinated in lime juice, with​ red onions, cucumbers and avocado with jalapeno spicy sauce on top. The portion is huge, the seafood is fresh, the flavors are bright and bold. I honestly regret not coming here the next morning for breakfast, I would love to eat my way through the entire menu.We left stuffed! The decor is very cute, with murals painted on the walls- particularly amusing ones in the bathrooms. If you're in Eureka, or even a bit of a drive away, this is worth coming out of your way for! read more

This place's food is decent but the service is outright terrible and aggressively rude. I've had two super awful interactions with waitstaff there both times I've been, and I can say- I'll never be back. The first time I was with a large party. I ordered queso fresco enchiladas, when the food arrived, my whole plate was cold. Cold rice, cold beans, cold enchiladas. I discreetly asked the server if she could please warm up my food and she LOUDLY responded that there enchiladas were a cold dish and it wasn't meant to be hot. I know what queso Fresco is, continued to condescendingly explain the dish and then proceeded to go and get the half used open package of queso from the kitchen, shove it it my face and say- "IT'S COLD- YOU CAN GOOGLE IT!" My entire party stopped eating and talking and stared at us. It was pretty shocking- a server yelling at a customer and shoving food in their face mid meal.... Needless to say "GOOGLE IT" became an inside joke for the rest of the weekend. Months later I decided to give patria another chance because we always liked their food and who knows, maybe it was just an off night for the server- nope. This time I got yelled at over asking for a glass of water. I'm seated with my family in a booth, tucked back into the corner of a nearly empty restaurant. We've been there maybe ten minutes or so after putting in our drink order, and I am parched... so I walk up to the counter where the server is standing there on her phone, our cold drinks sitting on the counter behind her. I say, "can I please have a glass of water when you get a chance" and she rudely says, "I put the order in, I'm busy" So like five minutes later she comes out with the tables drinks, but no glass of water.... I ask nicely, "can I please have a glass of water?" She then proceeds to snap at me in front of my family '- "I HAVE OTHER TABLES, I'M VERY BUSY- I WILL GET TO IT WHEN I CAN" over nicely asking for a glass of water.... Also, worth mentioning that we were the only table in the entire restaurant besides a two top waiting on their check. She completely ignores me for the rest of the meal. So uncomfortable! Excellent Mexican restaurant in the heart of downtown Eureka CA. Prices are higher than in our area, but that's due to the remote location. After a day of walking in the Redwoods, we were extremely hungry. Portions are very large, and everything is top quality on both authenticity and taste. I had the steak and shrimp Diablo combination plate ($20), my wife had the whole fried fish ($14). The homemade corn tortillas were amazing, and fattening. This is one time where the Yelp reviews were spot-on. read more

Definitely worth the stop. Stopped here for lunch and had a seriously delicious lunch. I had chicken fajitas perfectly cooked and a Mexican coca cola, in the bottle. The bell peppers, onions, tomatoes were still a bit crunchy and not too greasy, just the way I like them. I ordered a side of pico and grilled serranos. My sweet heart had a chimichanga and a chicken quesadilla. We were happily stuffed. No disappointment here. read more

FINALLY, after 8 years of mediocre Midwest Mexican food, I found a real Mexican restaurant and I had to return to California to find it! La Patria is unassuming and simple with 8-10 tables, one waitress, one cook, and great food. As soon as I sat down, a small (complimentary) bowl of refried beans topped with cheese arrived along with freshly made chips and both red and green homemade salsas. Draft beer is $3.50 and an order of guacamole is $3.95. They have everything you would expect, including carnitas, carne asada, fajitas, tacos, rellenos, enchiladas, tostadas, burritos, tamales and so on, but they had a few things I had not seen before in 59 years of loving Mexican food. Gorditas and sopes, both coming in a baked masa (corn meal) enclosure, the gorditas more like a round sandwich and the sopes similar to a tart pastry shell. Both are filled with refried beans, cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, and your choice of meat (carne asada, carnitas, shredded or ground beef, and chicken among others - fish, shrimp, lamb and goat are $2 more). For $10.49 you get your choice of a soft taco, crispy taco, super taco, enchilada, chili relleno, tamale, burrito, tostada, gordita, or sope (choose any two - any meat) with rice and beans. I had a super taco (a large, fried flour tortilla filled with shredded beef, lettuce, tomato, cheese and guacamole) and a gordita with carnitas. The super taco shell was a bit greasy, not surprising as flour tortillas do not deep fry quite as well as corn, but it was massive, filling and delicious. The gordita was excellent, not greasy at all with the crispy masa halves filled with carnitas and the other yummy ingredients. The place is simple, the service excellent, the food delicious, and the prices very reasonable. What more can you ask for in a Mexican restaurant ... FINALLY! Go to Raliberto's for quick taqueria on the 101 or Esmeralda's for sit down Mexican eats. La Patria - decent beans - tasty salsas (full flavor verde and a real nice gentle heat in the other) - chips and rice were meh - a whole plate of absolutely ruined chili verde (so overly salted it was literally inedible. We left the plate full. Nobody cared. Paid for the whole thing. Wasted fifteen bucks or whatever). - poorly cooked cactus that threw off the other dish we ordered (mushy mush mush) So... the staples all seem ok but the main courses were both gross. As in we didn't eat our meals gross. Mexican food sadness. This is Ca. We have our Mexican food dignity for crying out loud. read more
