We are traveling from out of town- like most other people. I realize that most tourist places are filled with over priced mediocre food.... so. This is likely not going to be a surprise. I really just want to be fair to both the restaurant and the potential families who Door Dash this. Setting the expectation here. We ordered for 2 adults and 3 small children. Large salads. Fajitas. Gwacamole. Something simple-ish so we could get back to the beach. It was around 7pm. Dinner arrived promptly for which we are grateful. Everything was packed neatly. Everything appeared to be- and tasted- fresh. However, the food didn't taste GREAT (it was fair at best), and portions were TINY (like for a kids meal, not $25 per fajita dish.... ) and then they didn't send any dressing, or limes or ANYTHING to dress up the salad. At all!? I got two of the same salads and they were $20 each and were (at least for the kids) inedible. I ate them... because I'm a mom. But. Come on.... So just want families to know to order a lot extra, ask for dressing and quickly find any condiments you have at your place. You'll need it. Wish I had pictures but my growing 9 year old ate everything except the retried beans. Dad and I ate bland tasteless salad. I would hope this business just had a bad night thinking back to my experience. I would love to give them the benefit of the doubt due to the current state and just my genuine empathy. As a tourist, I would like to think businesses would be welcoming; however, the staff of this restaurant was too nonchalant for my taste. The hostess was extremely impassive, the bartender seemed overwhelmed, and there was no mask in sight for the staff. As a former server, I totally understand the general pressures of the food industry, but I expect more communication. Our order was sitting for sometime, without acknowledgement of the staff. By the time we arrive to our neighboring resort, our food was lukewarm. I hope, in the future, that my fellow restaurant patrons catch this restaurant when they're in a more hospitable attitude. read more

What a great surprise for us in Destin, FL. We called in an order to go and they were super busy, but we were able to pick up our order almost within the original time frame. Being from TX, we love Tex-Mex, and this place is similar to Tex-Mex and our food was really good. We had steak, chicken and shrimp fajitas and a beef taco salad. The steak fajitas were delicious! Tasty and tender....which is not common for steak fajitas at a lot of places. Bottom line, the steak was not cheap. Shrimp & chicken were also very good. My taco salad was much better than most...and certainly hit the spot at the end of a beach day. The salsa was also good and I am picky about salsa. Not too hot, but had a little kick to it. Add refried beans and rice and chips and salsa and you're set. if you come close to finishing a combo meal, expect a food coma. the food is a bit overpriced but it is has the most consistent mexican kitchen in destin. service is also excellent. read more

Went here for taco Tuesday. Place was busy but didn't wait to long for a table. They had live music one person playing.. the vibe in there was good. Service was good. Here's my issue and maybe it's just me but I ordered chips and queso, two crispy tacos and a water and it cost me $19.80 ( r u kidding me) not including tip. I already had chips since they bring chips and salsa to your table. I paid $9.00 for a cup of cheese... that's insane and it wasn't like it was a big cup of it either. Food was good. I've tried la Paz prior to tonight, and enjoyed it. But tonight was absolutely disappointing. My son and I each ordered the Tortilla Soup and added Shrimp. We wanted something lite and refreshing. I thought the price was really high for a cup but assumed it was a bowl. And adding shrimp in a coastal town at $5 additional is also a bit pricey. The server, Justace was amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. He informed us that the soup was cooking and would be here soon. I anticipated it arriving hot and fresh. The soup finally came and I quickly noticed I had approximately 3 medium shrimp, chopped up. No fresh cilantro, pico or cheese. The broth was absolutely flavorless and badly under-seasoned. I really figured this place would have an amazing soup. It contained 2 slices of fresh avocado, onions, tomatoes, the shrimp and a poor broth. I added lots of salt and fresh cracked pepper I addition to the single small slice of line. Nothing helped. I asked for a little bit cheddar cheese to put in the soup. And Justice brought it after a five-minute delay. We managed to finish since it was basically a cup of soup. The disappointment doubled when I got the bill, $32 since I was charged a $1.50 for the cheese. Tasteless, flavorless, under seasoned soup with very few shrimp isn't worth half that price. When we were asked how was everything we smiled and lied and I wish we had told the truth to our server. Total disappointment and I hope to find a good tortilla soup in Destin soon. read more

My mother and I came to La Paz to satisfy her need for good Mexican food; she doesn't eat Seafood. We were seated quickly and we splurged for the queso. It wasn't all that good and rather cool. To our right was a table of retirees who were in a fuss over their food. "So salty-- hardly worth eating." We rolled our eyes at that. We aren't the type to make a fuss over food. I ordered the Steak Fajitas (a treat for me.) My mother ordered the Blue Corn Nachos. It took quite a long while for us to get our plates. While we waited, the retirees spoke with a manager and again with our waitress. The manager apologized and offered to get the lady a Margarita. He forgot to come back with one and made the situation worse. We thought, "let it go lady." Then we got our food... My poor, sad Fajitas were burned on one side and the side dish with rice and beans was cold. My mom's nachos were riddled with jalapeños. She'd asked them not to include them. We got extra... The waitress was behind on our drink refills, but she apologized every time-- "we are short staffed tonight." It was a nice gesture, but I felt bad for picking La Paz. Management might work a touch harder in getting food to table quickly. (I have now turned into the cranky retiree.) read more

Summary: An Overall Must Try for Tex-Mex I've been eating here for a bit now and I'd have to say it's one of the better Mexican restaurants around here. We usually bring our dog and sit outside, so it is dog friendly and they don't make you feel ostracized for bringing your dog. They even bring him a little water bowl. The staff is super friendly and will accommodate to your needs without making you uncomfortable. Food might be slightly pricey but it's delicious and well worth it. Heck, most places in Destin are kinda pricey. I usually order the Three Way Quesadilla, which has steak, shrimp, and chicken in it, and it's delicious and tastes fresh, and it's paired with a nice dip that elevates the flavor. I'd probably even say it's one of the best quesadillas I've had. The salsa is great and tastes fresh as well. Queso cheese dip tastes great too! I've been coming to Destin for 15 years and finally tried La Paz in 2017. The salsa is fresh, as well as the margaritas and fish tacos. I recommend the fish tacos with shrimp or the fresh catch. The Gordo and Phat Boy burritos are favorites of my husband and oldest son. My youngest son (17) loves the Cowboy Nachos. The guacamole is also good. read more

La Paz is the capital of Bolivia, translates to "Peace", but apparently it also means "dern good Mexican food" too. We asked the concierge at the Palms where they go if they want some good Mexican food. Their answers all had "La Paz," in common. Next, we polled the bell hop who answered with,"La Paz" immediately, so La Paz became our dinner destination during our first night in Destin. We were seated right away in a long booth with chairs on the other side of the table; perfect seating for our group, which had 4 kids in the mix. The restaurant, we noticed immediately, looked very similar to our beloved Papa Enrique's from San Angelo, TX, minus the awkward picture of a child's head and hand's covering the crotch area of a man in an attempt to share a piece of fruit. Good artistic vision, bad delivery. Good times, good times. We were given baskets brimming with golden-toasted tortilla chips and two different kinds of delicious salsa: regular red and salsa verde. My bf ordered some queso that we were ganking from 2 feet away dripping the sauce on the table and ourselves. Boy was that sinfully good queso. I drank all the salsa as usual. Everyone really enjoyed their food. I got the grilled chicken mango salad, which had perfectly ripe mango salsa on it, peppers, tomatoes, chives and black olives; it was a good salad. Hubby got a combo platter. I don't remember what he had on his plate, but I sampled all of it and it was awesome. To be less vague, I think he had some enchiladas, tamales and a taco. We didn't get any dessert to finish the meal because we were so stuffed, but they had some attractive looking options. And so was the waiter that my mom hit on afterwards; down kitty down!! I joked to her about having "to put the cougar back in it's cage." She got flustered and smacked me. I deserved that, I suppose. If I have never eaten Mexican outside of Destin, this is easily 5 stars, but I have and it isn't. That said, I think it is the best Mexican I have had since moving to Destin. The salsa that they start you with is GREAT, I love the fact that they have two kinds.... not spicy and regular, but green or red. The green is a tomatillo, onion, and cilantro mixture which is just awesome, and different than most other salsas anywhere down here. I have been here several times, for dinner and lunch, and have yet to have a bad experience. Their "zapnin" (chimichanga) was the first thing that I tried, and it was good. Everything thre is identifiable as what they say it is, so far as shrimp are big and juicy, chicken is juicy and succulent, and the steak is good as well. The one thing that I don't like are the hours, they are closed for 2-5, and seem to close at 830-9 depending on how busy they are, or how they feel. I've come in at 8:45, and the say the kitchen is closed, but I can get a drink. Overall, if you are looking for good Mexican in the area, give this a try, if you want cat food, try Pepitos. read more

Overpriced for average Mexican food, but I don't have many complaints. The food was great. I had the chimichanga with queso on top. Hubs had the fajitas. He said there wasn't enough meat for his tortillas. We both had the titos strawberry limeade which was bomb!! Chips and guacamole were also on par. The single order was split between me and my husband and it was plenty of food, considering all the chips and salsa we ate beforehand. The atmosphere is a little strange because inside, it's a little dark and almost romantic, and of course, they were playing pop music. Good Mexican is hard to find in Destin, but this is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Now let's be honest: There's no party going on in here, unless it's that Americanized Drinking Holiday in May. It's a quiet kind of place, but the food is much better than the other Mexi-joints in town. They have a great menu; it's not as expansive as you might expect, but the menu items are more authentic (by American standards). There are lots of seafood and vegetable items available, not just your typical ground beef and stewed chicken. Service here is very polite and they're almost always on top of things, but if you happen to walk in and see a table of 12 and it's full of pouting children (ugh) and adults who are confused by the menu because it doesn't have Fritos or Doritos in the ingredients, temper your expectations. It's still a really good place to eat. So La Paz is quiet but not oppressive, delicious and filling, and their specials are always the way to go. read more

Waitress then reappears and acts shocked to see me ordering from the bar. Asked for a check and neither of them seemed to know what to do. I love Mexican food but we were not impressed. The food was just ok but over priced. They had music a guitar player in dingy clothes drinking beer. No personality on stage. We didn't like the salsa it was too sweet. Our waitress was spacey. I asked her for a side of sour cream and she said it came with some mixture of it with other stuff in it. Nice Place. First off, i was a little thrown off by the atmosphere, kind of up-stylish but open spaced. I just was never quite comfortable. I would have enjoyed some sort of hispanic music over Brittany spears as well. However... the food was delicious, I ordered what I thought was Quesadillas for an appetizer, but instead ended up with a huge bowl of melted cheese with tortillas on the side.
