After touring at least 8 other daycares, we chose to go with Taney Ave. The location was perfect for us and the cost even better. Let me start by saying that Kindercare on Taney Avenue has been one of the best places for us and for our son. Every single teacher knows our name, and always greets us with a smile. When we drop our son off and he decides to have a tantrum, they immediately know what to do to make sure he is smiling within 30 seconds. We are kept up-to-date on his experience during the day and even get to see pictures of his activities. When we were having trouble transitioning him over from purees to solid foods, Kindercare helped us make the transition so much easier. He gets outside time and loves playing with the other children. He loves his teachers too! For a kid who is going through stranger danger phase, I've never seen him run to anyone like he does Ms. Vicky and Ms. Eva (besides our family). In situations where there is a problem (sickness, emergency, etc) Kindercare immediately informs us, even if he fell over and scraped his knee. We are always the first to know within less than a half hour of the situation. They keep us updated through phone call, email, and their app. If they are concerned at any time for his health, they are very straightforward about the situation. I have to say I appreciate that considering how much more experience they have than I do. I am grateful for every teacher and director at Kindercare on Taney Avenue and we will be so glad to see our son grow with them. Thank you all for making this a wonderful experience.

However, as time has worn on, it seems like the true colors of the school has shown themselves. The owners of the School (in particular Jill) seems to be all about the money. I don't understand how they can justify increasing the costs each & every single year (when they already charge an arm and a leg for tuition across the board) & they say it's due to them losing their talented teachers to the local Public Schools. Jill thinks throwing more & more money at the Teachers will make them want to stay at Goddard. I think the reality is why don't you create a better culture and focus more on the environment for the Teachers to be happy in. They even created a Kindergarten program for the first time this year. Instead of the classroom being located inside of the building, they added a Trailer outside of the building next to the Playground. It seemed as though the class was totally separate from the School itself (literally & figuratively). There were also many times throughout the year when we received conflicting messages/emails between the Goddard School & the Kindergarten classroom on different activities & events. At times, this caused us confusion and many emails/phone calls to the school to determine what was really going on. If you are looking for a quality Pre-School located in Urbana, I would HIGHLY recommend going with Kid's Villa Learning Center. Save yourself the money & the headaches

This is our little one's first year at Goddard (Urbana) and we could not be more please. I thought…read moremoving to a new town and a new school would be a bit overwhelming for her, but with Goddard's help she took it all in stride. They embraced our little granddaughter and the responsibility for her learning care with all the gusto we could hope for in those charged with caring for her for a significant part of her day. Now five, she gets up each day knowing and excited that something new and different awaits her. Learning is everywhere and concern for her well being is front and center. Be it their attentiveness to her numerous allergies or their proactive eye towards seeing that she is in the right level and with the right classmates so that she continues to be challenged, the school is a great fit for our always curious grand baby. An added bonus has been the daily sharing by email of her progress as she navigates a balance of guided work and learning play that the curriculum affords each student. I'm confident she has been well served and will be more than kindergarten ready in the fall, but her time at Goddard will not have ended there. Being just steps away from her new primary school, we will be taking advantage of Goddard's before and after care program giving us the reassurance that she has a safe and nurturing place to get homework out of the way and be with friends until we come to collect her. We've never had second thought about enrolling her.

If someone is sad or hurt, there's always another child and staff member there to make them feel better. It's part of their nature. The school's director, Kit Hays, is passionate and dedicated to the students and families. She pours her heart into developing the most creative and thoughtful curriculum as well as carefully weaving in modernity and diversity. Not only are the staff skillfully qualified as Montessori instructors, they truly love teaching and nurture all their students. Students are encouraged to develop their existing strengths and are supported to take on new challenges when they are ready (like reading) - really meeting kids where they are and helping them to shine. Kids are not forced into learning; it seems like they sort of bloom when they are ready. Using this gentle approach, it's amazing to see how many kids are reading and counting at such a young age. They integrate many aspects of learning into their daily routine so there's no real separation between laughter and learning - it's one and the same. Even when they play games, there's a thoughtful educational element embedded in the fun. You can tell the kids enjoy every second they are there while, even when they are in "work time". At one point my daughter was having a difficult time going to school, weepy and clingy when it was time to go. Each day when we arrived at school, Ms. Kit and a handful of children were there to greet my daughter - a welcome committee! They literally embraced her and reminded her that she was an integral part of the family. We feel so lucky to have been able to join the Rainbow family (no wonder there's a waiting list every year!) and know our daughter has the educational foundation and confidence to succeed in her entire school career and life. We are ever thankful for all they have given our family. Our daughter is inquisitive, open-minded, thoughtful and thirsty for knowledge and challenges - just like all the children lucky enough to be part of the Rainbow family.
