Reposting: Just so I can set the record straight on this matter, I picked up this dog! She had been cared for by someone who had found her in the canal system in Bend. Those folks had the dog for 5 days or so. They had it checked at the humane society for a chip, which she had none. They left their contact info with the HS and put the dog on the Bend lost pets site and even went door to door in the neighborhood by where she was found. No one knew the dog. This woman lived in an apartment and couldnt keep her due to the pet clause on her lease so she handed the dog over to a friend of hers who had a house, but unfortunately had small kids. So this lady has the dog another 4 days. (Keep count, we are now at 10 days this dog is gone) She posts the dog everywhere on FB, I think i saw 7 FB pages that had this dog on it. Still, NO ONE claims this dog! Day 5 of Brittni having the dog and her 3 year old tried to pick up the dog and she snapped at him. So she posted asking if anyone could possible take the dog. So, thats where I came in. So day 11 of this dog being gone from its "owner" I picked the dog up, drove straigt to the Bend PD and asked that they check the dog for a chip. Nothing! So I gave my name, number and they took down the dogs description and said if anyone called looking they would let me know. As I left, I called the HS and gave them the same info. The dog was not in good health, she was matted, had huge tumors on her belly and several bad teeth, which made eating very uncomfortable for her. I called and got her a vet appointment the next day, spent $142 for the services and scheduled her surgery appointment for the following week. So, day 13 of the dog being gone, I take her to be groomed to get the mats off her and was informed there was a couple looking for another small pom. They were informed about her health, had agreed to take care of her health issues and she was going to be given a good home. La Pine Animal Hospital was PAID up front for the surgery through donations I had gathered. The day of her surgery, now gone 23 days, the dog is brought into the vet and at that point is where things went to hell! One of the staff called the HS to inquire about the dog. But apparently they were not open, so she called animal control in Bend and apparently spoke to an officer who remembered a report about this dog from MONTHS earlier. And that officer was the one who contacted the owners. La Pine Animal Hospital called me to inform me what they had done and that the officer was going to ask if the owners would relinquish the dog. They wanted the dog back, for whatever reason. Even though the dog was gone almost a month, no report, no HS check, but they needed the dog back. So they were allowed to come pick the dog up. This morning I get a call from Gordon telling me, "he and his staff will not aid and abed animal theft". So, rescuing an animal, calling the HS, the Bend PD, taking the dog in for urgent care and giving my contact info all = Animal Theft apparently! With the way this situation was treated, I whole heartatly believe La Pine Animal Hospital handed this pup a death sentance by handing her back to people who took no responsibility for her in the first place! It's shameful and I will not be returning to La Pine Animal Hospital! read more

Warning, do NOT take your pet here to be put to sleep. Worst experience of my life and my poor pet suffered as I watched it all happen. It was not peaceful at all. My pet was calm & just fine but then started howling, gasping for air and clawing at everything immediately after getting the injection. Worst experience of my life. The vets just looked on in horror because they thought I was just going to leave my pet there to go down alone. So they likely knew this would happen but didn't warn me at all. I have had to put many pets down and never had an experience this horrifying. Awful, awful experience and no explanation or apologies. Not to mention they put us in a room close to the front of the clinic where you can hear dogs barking, yelping and people talking loudly. I contacted La Pine Animal Hospital early on Monday, and they brought us in that morning as soon as they could. Kelli, Dr. Dixon and the entire staff were wonderful. Since moving to La Pine two years ago we have brought all of our animals there. We have received excellent service. The office staff is so friendly and informative. Our dog Chocolate who's a very difficult chihuahua has had several surgeries. She had dental work, her yearly shots and was spayed. They were even able to clip her nail. I can't even do that. Each time she received excellent service with kind and gentle care. We adopted some kittens that were born to a feral cat in our neighborhood. One of the kittens had a hernia. We scheduled surgery the same day we brought him in. He was so little. They did a wonderful job and he was up and back to normal the next day. Even though he was nurtured at the same time. A few years ago, our dog started having health issues, so we took her to the Lapine animal hospital. they diagnosed her wrong, and within a couple days of us giving her the medication they had prescribed she started going downhill fast. we tried taking her in again, but the vet refused to see her. we took our dog to the blue sky vet in bend and they saw that the condition she was in and rushed her inside, but unfortunately it was too late. our dog died that night. the blue sky informed us that the medications we were giving our dog had only sped up the illness- the medications the Lapine animal hospital had prescribed. I truly hope that you don't bring your pet here, I don't want any animal to go through what our dog did. read more

We live in Sunriver, and used the "local" vet for several years with very mixed results, and at the end, some very BAD results. After a relative recommended LPAH, we could not be more thrilled. The few negative reviews online were from spoiled "city people". LPAH knows rural. They are attentive, knowledgeable, compassionate (we had to put down our beloved "Bonnie Blue"), and have always treated our dogs with the utmost love. And the bonus? They have a groomer onsite named Carol that is the BEST!! Listens to what you want/need, done in a timely manner, and the dogs look terrific! We are truly grateful beyond words for Dr. Gordon and the entire staff for their understanding of our unique situation. We live in Portland but picked up our RV in Sunriver before heading to Medford for a week when we realized our 15y/o Yorkie needed emergency care. Tyke was an established patient at a vet in Sunriver and another in Bend and we called other vet in LaPine but none of the front desk staff would even ask their technicians about working him in. Dr Gordon's staff "checked" and a way was found. Tyke's condition was worse than we imagined and needed surgery as well as medications. We thought we were going to have to say goodbye to our 4-legged family member but after the care he received, he is doing very well! A week ago I had to have my Chihuahua put down. She was 18 1/2 years old. She was my best friend. It was really hard. My comment is not directed at the entire staff, only the doctor who administered the shot. She never introduced herself. She never explained what she was doing and seemed put out because we brought her in late on Friday. She had an assistant who took my dog, put a death grip on her so she could shave her leg. Then came the needle. As my dog was crying she said to us that we needed to step away, we were making the dog to nervous. I offering to hold her because she was ,blind and had no hearing. I knew I could of helped to calm her down. She had the attitude and bedside manor I have ever witnessed. To top it off, we stepped back as requested, without any notice she started the injection before we could say goodbye. Because of her I will recommend them. read more

Next am eye laceration completely open and horribly swollen..We called lapine animal hospital to ask they asap..NO RESPONSE. My elderly dog came down with a nasty case of kennel cough and seemed like she couldn't catch a breath at times. I called in and they got me an appointment within 30 minutes and we were on the way home with medicine within the hour. My dog is doing much better and I'm super thankful for the help received. After just moving to town, we had the unfortunate experience of having to put a family member down after being a part of the family 12 years. We carried our dog in. Despite what previous reviewers claimed about front office staff, we had nothing but caring, compassionate knowledgeable staff. Things were handled quietly and efficiently giving us the time needed. I began taking my dogs to this clinic Jan 2017. They recommended a Lyme vaccine which no one ever had before. I allowed it and almost lost my 11 year old beloved West Highland Terrier. They did not charge me however. (I learned later from another vet that if your pet is up to date on flea and tick treatment they do not need Lyme vaccines which often kill dogs.) Then July 2017 I gave my dogs a new wormer, Interceptor, again from La Pine clinic. My Westie immediately began to suffer. They checked her, took blood work and said they could find nothing wrong and that was it. No further actions were taken. My poor sweet dog suffered and worsened for over a week, even having a seizure and then died. I kept calling but got no further help. I lost the best dog I've ever had. Do NOT risk the same by taking your pet to this clinic. They need reviewed and perhaps shut down. read more

The staff however I found quite incompetent instead of following our wishes they sent her out with the garbage. Consequently we will not be able to take our remaining pets here again. I am here again to inform y'all that the vet here didn't tell me to taper the dose of prednisone prescribed to my dog. She gave me a huge bottle of it and told me to use it to "put out the fires" ie whenever my dog's yeast infection in his ear (that they said wasn't there) made him itchy. You guys, you need to taper the dose off. This stuff can weaken your dogs immune system and they can die. I learned this from a vet in Bend, not from the vet who prescribed it. I am never coming here again. Never will I forget how I came in knowing exactly what was going on with my dog and the vet here just gaslighted me into believing it was a food allergy. Never will I ever take my dog here again. If I ever hear someone talking about taking their pet here, I will spring into action and do everything in my power to make sure that they do not take their pet here and give these people any business. The pets deserve better care and these people do not deserve the business of my friends and loved ones. My dog is now healthy and happy. read more

I was shocked by the disrespect and lack of knowledge the front staff provided. One of the gals was so rude my fiancé and I almost just walked out. She continuously ignored us, didn't give back correct change, and brushed us off when we made several attempts to ask her questions. As far as the vets go, she was great! She gave my dog her full attention, provided us with information that was useful. She was very kind and listened to the concerns and responded very kindly to each and every one. However, I will not be going back because I cannot deal with disrespectful people and I wouldn't trust the front staff with any of my dogs. read more

For the first 3 years of my dogs life I went here for everything including nail trimmings and getting his teeth brushed.... every time paying up front in full, and had no issues, until my car accident. I was in a terrible accident that nearly took both of our lives. My dingo-lab was ejected from my car and was missing for 24 hours before someone found him and returned him to us. We immediately took him to the emergency vet in bend who gave him xrays and told us our best option was to amputate, but that i should do so threw my regular vet. So that's what I did. I had the emergency vet send a fax with my dogs specifics to lapine animal clinic and I came in with my dog, his leg mangled and stitches in my face, hoping that after all my loyalty to them in three years that they would help me and my bestfriend. I only had $200 to my name after paying for the emergency vet and I knew it wouldn't be enough to get the amputation, so I explained my situation the the front desk girl who gave me a look like I was filth for not having the money then said she would tell the vet but unless I have the money for the surgery now, he's not likely to work with me.... When the vet came into the room he didn't even acknowlage my dog. Didn't have one ounce of care in his face, and the first thing he said was I can't help you. He then informed me, it would cost $3,000 and they don't think I'm a good candidate for payment plans. WHAT??!!!! Because of what? My age? I had given them every reason to have faith in my loyalty to them by ALWAYS paying in full at the time of visit. But they didnt trust I'd make payments to his surgery... This is the best part He then asked me how much money I had at that moment, that I would be able to put towards the amputation if they decided to work with me. I told him $200. He shook his head and said... "Well that's not gonna get you very far is it... I'll tell you what, for $200 I can help end your dogs suffering. Euthanization is basically your only option without money." This idiot would rather kill my dog then to help with his leg. So I left and did some more searching and found a vet in bend who was willing to do a payment plan, without hesitation because they didn't want him to suffer from my lack of finances. also they did it for only $2,000. My dog is so happy and healthy now and didn't let the amputation take anything away from his lifestyle. Can you imagine that if I had listened to the lapine vet I wouldn't have my three legged companion sitting next me now... he would be dead. DON'T GO TO THE LAPINE ANIMAL CLINIC IF YOU VALUE YOUR PETS LIFE! I PROMISE YOU, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR ANIMAL. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY. read more

This vet office needs to reevaluate their employees and their mission. Over vaccination of pets is harmful to them. Period. When I brought my dog in for something completely different, I specifically stated no do not give her vaccines because she just had them (two weeks prior) further i directed them (gave them all the contact information to her prior vet) not only did this vet never contact the other hospital (I called and verified this) they decided upon themselves to give her all the vaccines again that she just had two weeks prior and further charge me a ridiculous amount for them. And then when I called and asked why, the woman on the phone was a complete prude. Very rude, and not willing to listen to my complaint. These people do not have your dogs best interest in mind. read more

The owners stink as vets and as people. I don't know anything about the hired vet. I wouldn't take an animal there. They gave me a price on neutering/spaying cats from a trailer park to help stop breeding and then when it was over the price changed. I stopped payment on the check and payed what was quoted at first. I used them before, years ago, for both large and small animals but wasn't happy. I thought they could at least neuter and spay stray cats right. read more

Brought one of my dogs (Labrador) here that was having skin issues. The Vet tech was obnoxious and rude. She did not pay attention or log any of our concerns. She went through a long seemingly scripted spiel about all these tests and medications that we told her from the onset we were not interested in. We only wanted to find out what was causing her skin condition. She finally just took the skin scrape and walked out. As predicted the Veterinarian showed up with the results and went on the same spiel about other tests and medicines that had nothing to do with her skin condition and as fore-mentioned we weren't interested in. Fleas DO NOT live in Central Oregon!!! We have never used a flea collar or other flea treatment in 25 years. Counting all my family we have had at least 30 dogs and several cats and none of them have ever had fleas. We have lived every where from Madras to LaPine and all points in between. They have also NEVER contracted Heart-worm. Something they really love forcing on you. Giving your dog Heart-worm medication is like taking Chemo everyday because you think you might get cancer...its expensive and stupid. If you were traveling to an area of the country where it is more prevalent, you can look this on the web there is a site that reports Heart-worm incidents, then yes you may want to take that precaution where your dog(s) might get bit by Mosquitoes. A Mosquito must bite one dog that has Heart-worm and live long enough to bite another dog to infect it. Over all I found the Vet and Staff that we had to deal with rude, condescending and judgmental. Our dog had a small litter of two puppies before the skin condition showed up. They treated us like villains for having one litter of pure bred Labrador puppies. We went in there seeking help and advice to cure our dogs skin condition so that we could get her spayed. We paid for the skin test, a steroid shot and some prescription medication which didn't work (This was on a Friday afternoon). We ended up taking her to Bend on Monday and it was worth the short drive. read more

The Vets are wonderful. They do take the time to discuss things with you. I agree with Tammy L that the front staff need to be trained to be more courteous and polite. I feel that some of the staff NOT all are doing ME a favor by me patronizing the establishment. I was once corrected by one of staff to speak up during my last visit about a free service for dog nail clipping that was provided by their groomer who supposedly is an independent subcontractor separate from the vet services. One of the admin. staff had forgotten to note that this free service was available to me when I made the grooming appt. initially. Instead of apologizing to me for the mistake in their scheduling, I was corrected for not speaking up. How should I have known that the grooming services were separate from the Vet? This perturb me!! My old vet was a small operation in a rural setting, such as LPAH and I thought the service at LPAH would be welcoming and warm like my old vet hospital. The staff at my old vet, knew my first name and my dogs names. They would get my dogs in the back kennel after a service, instead of me going in the back, which LPAH sometimes does not do. I felt my old Vet CARED!! This feeling of comfort encouraged me to continue bringing my dogs to my old vet and I brought lots of business to them through my own patronage and referrals. I used their hospital, grooming and kennel services. Since I have been using LPAH & the grooming service, the front staff lacks this critical customer service environment. I am thinking of bringing my dogs somewhere else, if they don't improve the service, I would be okay to drive 30 minutes to Bend for better service. I bring my dogs often to LPAH and if the front staff doesn't take care of the patrons at the front desk, it makes me wonder how they are treating my dogs who I love when I am not in sight. read more

We are La Pine summer residents. I called the La Pine Animal Hospital and was able to get my pomchi Coco in that day as she seemed very sick. She saw Dr. Gordon Pickering who did a thorough look-over ruling out a high temperature, etc. Turns out Coco probably had an anxiety attack and Dr. Pickering spoke with me at length about anxiety in dogs and ways to treat that condition. I asked him a lot of questions which he patiently answered, and was very knowledgeable and caring towards Coco. Dr. Pickering wrote Coco a prescription for her upset tummy and Coco also tried the special Purina wet dog food they had at the clinic which she loved. It took a little while after Coco checked in to her appointment for her to be seen, but the office as a whole kept themselves aware of who was next in line. Checkout took a while, although there were a lot of animals coming and going while I was there. Overall, I was pretty happy with my visit. I would take Coco there again. Margaret read more
