The food is oh so good but the ambiance is my favorite thing about this restaurant! The aesthetic is fun but chic and so so classy all at the same time. The designer nailed it. This is the perf spot for a celebratory dinner of any kind. You can't go wrong sitting inside or out, but I would say the patio is my favorite part of this restaurant. We ordered the pineapple & steak fajitas which were cooked to perfection. I feel like the sides that came out with it were well thought out and more then what you would typically get with standard fajitas. I love that the cheese is served melted... but can you go wrong with cheese ever!?! We added bacon wrapped shrimp which is worth it as well. Ceviche was fresh. Oysters are not my thing but they were done well. I mean " La pascina" does mean fish so you have to try some of the seafood, right? Our server was super attentive and we never had to wait for another marg or tortillas (so important lol) My only TINY complaint would be the seating arrangement was...a little silly. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant and got seated at arguably the worst table in the restaurant.. and against a cement pole. One of the waiters quickly moved us which was nice. Half way through dinner the host sat the ONLY other table right next to us. Literally we could touch them. Whenever our waiter would come to serve us they would bump into the table bc we were so close. It just doesn't make sense when every other table in the entire restaurant was open. I get that it doesn't speak for the restaurant overall but just thought it was worth noting. At a cheaper restaurant it wouldn't bother me but as a higher-end Mexican restaurant details like that matter more imo. read more

My partner and I came to La Piscina to celebrate his belated birthday, and the entire team made it such a memorable experience. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with beautiful views and a staff that was genuinely warm and welcoming from start to finish. Maggie was absolutely wonderful -- attentive, kind, and incredibly composed even when the restaurant and patio filled up for dinner service. The food was outstanding and full of authentic Mexican flavors, which was such a treat in a city where Tex-Mex usually takes center stage. We started with the crab tostadas, guacamole, and esquites, all served with perfectly crispy chips and flavorful red and green salsas. For our main dishes, we had the birria tacos, red snapper tacos, and carne asada tacos. Every dish was well-balanced, flavorful, and thoughtfully plated with pickled vegetables and house-made sauces. Kudos to Giulio, who showed great professionalism and attention to detail throughout our meal. Plates were cleared promptly, fresh silverware appeared right away, and everything flowed smoothly. To finish the night, the staff surprised us with a blackberry tres leches birthday cake and a plate of apple cinnamon crepes flambéed tableside in a fiery, fun display. The manager, Antonio, personally came by to wish my partner a happy birthday and made sure we had a perfect evening. We did the queso fundido for the appetizer and wasn't the best but the fresh flour tortillas really made it just melt in my mouth. do recommend! the chips and in house salsas were good the verde was the best but i do wish as a latino it was a bit more spicier!!! I highly recommend coming here on a lovely patio weather day. It's semi covered and they have fans as well and adjacent to the pool. A little people watching included ha Our table of 4 shared so many items on our event menu. All delicious. My Favs: Mariposa - I'm not into sweet drinks and was worried the coconut milk would be this, but it all paired very well if you like gin. Baja-Style Oysters - Fresh and light. Loved they were served with serrano. Green Chorizo & Huitlacoche Quesadilla - This was AMAZING. This is a nice rooftop restaurant with tasty drinks, good food and amazing service. We stopped by for drinks and apps on a Friday afternoon. We were a little worried that our 1 year old baby would be a burden but thanks to the helpful staff, we had a great time and no one else was bothered. We ordered drinks, which were all amazing and they brought complimentary chips and salsa. After a few minutes our waitress offered to bring by a tortilla or beans and rice for the baby. We took her up on all three. The tortillas were homemade, hot and we all ended up eating some! We also ordered oysters which were fresh and had a nice southern twist by being served with a lime instead of a lemon. The view of the pool was nice and you could see the bridge over Shaol creek. We just got to Austin (first time here). We walked on 2nd landed at The Proper Hotel we went up and tried to get in at La Piscina only thing available was at the bar. Lucky for us, because we met Dustin and Ale who both made the night great the drinks they made and the kindness they showed plus the great service was effortless. We highly recommend the restaurant but if you get a chance to sit at the bar and meet Dustin (ex football safety) and Ale a beautiful soul your night has gotten off to a good start! read more

My new favorite Tex-Mex/ Mexican spot! First off, the aesthetic and decor of the restaurant is to die for! There is even a pool to lounge by if you're still wanting to enjoy the last of summer. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. There are cacti on every table, and boho decor all throughout the space. When I walked in, I was worried that La Piscina was another one of those Instagrammable restaurants with low quality food. However, I was very mistaken! The food was amazing. The sizzling fajita trays are so big and definitely enough for two. We got the chicken and beef fajitas, which comes with cheese, bell peppers, and a jalapeno. The cheese was so delicious with the fajitas and added just the right touch. For sides, it comes with tortillas, rice, beans, sour cream, pico de gallo, and salsa. Every individual aspect of the meal was great, which is a hard thing for a restaurant to do. Everything had great flavor, was seasoned well, and cooked to perfection. The fajitas were cooked to a perfect medium, and they were the most tender I have ever had. They are definitely up there for best fajitas. They also provide free chips and salsa, and the chips are large and perfectly salted. The service is great. The waiters are sweet and ready to provide recommendations. They are attentive, and they make sure you are taken care of. There is no parking on site. They do not validate valet, so I would recommend street parking a few streets down for like $2. It has always been expensive, but now that they have decided to cut their food costs, sacrificing food quality, while simultaneously running a prix fixe menu scam where you pay roughly double the menu prices for the food you are served, they have lost my business. That they add gratuity, and management claims to be unable to do anything about it all, is just insulting to the intelligence of their customers. They seem to think that they cater to the wealthy, to whom price and food quality doesn't matter -- only that they are taking their meal in The Proper hotel. I think they're deluded. Time will tell, but be warned. Austin is replete with better options, and has a tendency to punish establishments that don't make the grade. read more

If the weather is right outside by the pool would be lovely. The FOOD...let's start with the Tuna Crudo. Absolutely one of the best dishes I've ever tasted! Queso Fundito also good. Four of us split the Prime Steak Fajitas and the Chicken Fajitas and it was more than enough. The Spicy Margaritas were too good (meaning easy to drink )! I would have appreciated servers who were more knowledgeable about the menu and willing to offer explanations or recommendations, especially at this price point. The dishes themselves were great. The street corn is more of a cold corn salad, but the flavors were outstanding. The oysters were delicious, and the grilled octopus was very tender and well prepared. The chocoflan was good but a little tougher and chewy but the port wine was delicious! I do wonder if being located inside a hotel means the restaurant consistently draws guests, and the staff may feel less motivated to engage with diners or highlight the dishes more thoughtfully. read more

This place is truly a little hidden gem in Downtown Austin. Located right inside Austin Proper on the 5th floor. It is beautifully decorated and an amazing space. I loved the views as well. We had an excellent server and I was pleased with the level of service. The chips and salsa with guacamole they bring out is so good. The tortilla chips are really crispy and full of flavor. I got the Alberto beer they have on tap which was really great. And the Watermelon margarita that was fantastic. We started with the ceviche 6/10. It was the only low point in the meal. It was a minimal plate that was drowned in the coconut sauce and only a few thinly sliced shrimps. For starters we went with the lobster quesadillas 10/10 and the asada fajitas 10/10. I came here hoping for that picture-perfect sunset moment, margarita in hand, skyline glowing, but Mother Nature had other plans. Still, we made the best of it. Like they'd lost the will to be crisp. Service hovered somewhere between "fine" and "forgettable." Last night my husband took me here to celebrate the anniversary of when we started dating. It was a real treat, but could have been better. Of course the food was a top priority, and that was delicious. As soon as I saw they have a Lobster Quesadilla, I knew I had to get that! The amount of lobster and cheese was right. The flour tortilla lost a little of its crispiness due to the toppings, so that detracted slightly. I wish they would have served more pineapple salsa with it, so that there was enough to get some with every bite. It was huge, and might have been better split between two people. Even though I love cheese, I lost my appetite eating that much cheese in one sitting, and had to pack one quarter of it to take home. I hope it's still good when I come back to it! My husband ordered the Steak and Chicken Fajitas. One thing that made them unique was that they put the cheese in the skillet, so it is served melted alongside the meat. Now that we've seen this, we think all fajitas should be served this way! Additionally, they served the fajitas on top of a burner, so they stayed warm. The ambience was one of the reasons he picked this restaurant. Austin is lacking rooftop restaurants, and this is the closest to rooftop dining with a good menu that we could find. However, five stories up doesn't get you much of a view, except for the power plant below, the windows of other buildings, and a parking garage across the way. (Ok, so you can see the new library and arched bridge below, but it's hardly a skyline view.) Secondly, tables were not positioned very close to the edge, limiting the potentially special view more. However, we got an added bonus of a show, because a thunder and lightning storm came through while we were eating, and it was cool to be up high surrounded by the storm. None of the rain blew in on us (which admittedly would have happened if we were able to sit closer to the edge.) Service was attentive, as we would hope at this price point. The flavor of the meat was great but there was barely any in the taco. It was mostly an empty tortilla shell with a hint of meat. Located on the 5th floor of the Proper near the pool with both indoor and outdoor dining. The outdoor dining is a nice patio that has heating elements for the winter so it's actually pretty nice. The service has always been good here, friendly and courteous. I would recommend reservations since the seating does fill out during prime times. For drinks - you can't beat a house marg - frozen or on the rocks but we've also enjoyed the sangria and mariposa. Drinks are pretty pricey ($20 give or take) so you're only enjoying 1 maybe 2. For food - we've enjoyed the octopus, tuna tartare and the salads are bad either. Guac is also always a hit. You do get chips (big thick half-moon hard crispy chips) with some red and green salsa (neither are particularly spicy for me). But the real reason we come is for the fajitas. We usually do the prime steak or pineapple&soya ribeye with some jumbo gulf shrimp. The flavors are wonderful and it does come with some grilled peppers/onions and a jalapeño - but if you aren't lactose intolerant fajitas come with cheese that melts on the plate and caramelizes on the bottom (it has some fire gel that keeps it all nice and warm). Couple this with some nice warm tortillas and it's a meal. Plates of rice and refried beans, avocado salsa, sour cream accompany the dish too. Love the food - but keep in mind you're paying hotel pricing so it's not the cheapest meal. read more

My girlfriends and I have a monthly girls night where we book the hottest restaurants in Austin to try and La Piscina is my fav so far! We were greeted by friendly hosts and when they asked what we were celebrating, my friend said "divorce!" Lol (which was true for a couple of my friends there that night). We just had appetizers and snacks as we had reservations elsewhere for dinner so the 3/5 ranking is just for the limited items we had. I do have to say other tables ordered mains like table side fajitas which looked and smelled awesome. As for what we ordered: The guacamole was more like a crudite with pickled vegetables. The guacamole could have used more lime as the avocado was mostly seasoned with sea salt. Different. We also had the nachos with beef and it was again too salty. The queso was a queso fundino. The only problem is that it coagulated too soon. The margaritas were just fine for day drinking. Not too strong and the margarita was well balanced. Service was great. Our server was friendly but not as knowledgeable about what beers were local or not as Pinthouse's Electric Jellyfish is local. The restaurant is stunning as it is next to the pool and has a very vacation-y feel to it with lots of costal Mexican flaire. Prices are elevated. Everything was about $16-20.
