I'm actually kind of sad that I haven't tried this place out yet. It's been on my list for quite some time as I drive by every single weekend. finally decided to pop in and was able to grab a seat at the bar. The bar definitely had plenty of TVs, so if you're sports person. You could easily catch a game while here. One of the Table tents, notified guest of a happy hour for oysters, which I'm not an oyster fan, but hey to each their own. Had to try out the clam chowder and it was one of the best clam chowder I've had quite some time. You could easily taste the clams at a really nice consistency not too thin, not too thick and I didn't even have to add any salt to it. It was just really tasty. When the clam trotter was delivered, I happened to look at what other plates were on the serving tray ready to go out in one of them happen to be this phenomenal salmon dish. I asked the gentleman what it was and he said it was his favorite dish on the menu, so of course had to try it the salmon dish absolutely out of this world the glaze on it side. It came with it. Everything just fit really well together and y'all that plate was clean by the time it went back. This place is definitely on my shortlist as I really would like to try some of their other plates again that salmon and the clam chowder really made an impression and highly rate this place if you're looking for a good seafood place in Austin. I moved to Austin recently and have been looking for a place that has a good oyster and martini happy hour. This place popped up on insta, so I decided to give it a try. $1 off oysters and $5 martinis! The service was excellent and the restaurant itself was nice and spacious. The martinis were great. We also ordered hush puppies, which were amazing. The oysters were good, but they were shucked really badly with tons of shell fragments. If you're a fan of seafood, I highly recommend checking out Salt Traders! They have a large menu offering a variety of different dishes, some more casual and some fancier. During my visit, I ordered a variety of oysters from the raw bar to share with my husband alongside the shrimp and lobster roll. I was super impressed with everything I had. The oysters tasted really fresh and their cocktail sauce here was tasty. The shrimp and lobster roll was different from what I've tried from other places because the filling was cold instead of warm. I thought this change was refreshing and was perfect because it was a hot day. Service here was exceptionally friendly! Our server would check up on us often and was super conversational. I appreciate all the recommendations she shared alongside being really thorough when telling us the difference between the different oysters the restaurant offered. After a long day of swimming in Austin I was craving oysters and after doing some looking around, I stumbled upon salt traders. I had never been, but it was really close to where I was at, so I gave it a try. First things first, this a beautiful location with lots of seating at the bar and throughout the restaurant. The service is A1, I sat at the bar and was very impressed with the team's chemistry back there (especially while training someone new, they were spot on). The drinks were wonderful as well, very refreshing and lots of flavor. I enjoyed a yuzu & lavender sour & a grapefruit margarita and was impressed with how flavor forward the drinks were while still having a great boozy after effect. Also, I know traditionally oysters aren't usually a thing that you enjoy during the months that don't have an R in them, but I have to say salt traders definitely defied that "rule". Hands down some of my favorite oysters I have EVER had; I enjoyed the Va Va Vooms from Maryland and the Demariscotta Oysters from Maine and still haven't been able to stop thinking about them (it's been about a week or so now & I'm already planning to go back)! I also enjoyed the torched scallop nigiri, the daily crudo, and the salmon plate (that Dijon bbq sauce was craaaazy good, I'll have to order an extra serving of the sauce on the side next time I enjoyed it so much). Lastly, this place has an amazing happy hour, which I noticed fills up fast. Highly recommend going to Salt Trader's if you haven't yet. It's a Jack Allen restaurant. I love that they keep up with the tradition of the chip and dip to get you excited. This one has crab in it though. YUMMM. My pasta was delicious except the seafood (lobster and shrimp) was overcooked. Pasta and sauce was great though. The fish and chips was a large portion and the fries came out perfect. Both were okay, I almost preferred the dip & chips because there weren't enough shrimp. We came here for a happy hour (3:30-6:30 T-Fr) as they have $5 off all beginnings and discounted oysters. Here's what we ordered: 1. New Orleans BBQ Shrimp - tasty and a pretty big portion with freshly grilled bread 2. Steamed Mussels - another bigger portion app that had a really nice white wine butter sauce 3. Grilled Oysters - these were excellent and I could've ordered many more portions 4. Clam Chowda - bowl was a big portion and super filling so could've probably just done the cup. 5. Lastly ended with the creme brulee which was good but the topping of white powdered chocolate (?) and sorbet was such a weird pairing and did not go well. Overall this would be 3.5 stars. From the beginning walking in, not busy at all but maybe we were early, through our 3 hour convesation and meal that place was super packed. My husband and I visited Austin, TX for the weekend with another couple, and I was searching for a nice local seafood restaurant. I found Salt Traders on Yelp, and although I am usually skeptical when trying a new place, this restaurant was definitely a hit! Our waiter, Corral, provided excellent service from start to finish. We made a reservation like we always do and even showed up early. When the waitstaff tried seating us at a table we asked for a booth. We were told we had to specifically request that when we made our reservation? We've NEVER had to do that before. I haven't looked into that. We went because they were hosting a teacher appreciation Day and we're giving us teachers free meals. I have been hearing in the past for their seafood food boils and they're delicious as well. I chose the blackened chicken Caesar salad salad without anchovies and I have to say it was delicious. The chicken was so fresh and perfectly grilled and the dressing was just very nice. My friend got the crispy shrimp bowl and I tried it and it was delicious. I literally just mixed it all and it was phenomenal. I also wanted to try some of their oysters. Those were not on the menu for teachers, but they were very well priced, and I have to say they were delicious. They were not fishy. They were not grainy. They were just perfectly silky and a little sweet. Overall great place they were so sweet. They kept thinking us for being teachers. They even gave us a cute little apple. The oyster selection was phenomenal, but the highlight this evening was the Hokkaido scallops over a fall squash risotto. It's the most expensive dish on the menu, but honestly worth more. Whoever and however they are sourcing these scallops: they are among the freshest and highest quality I've ever been served anywhere... The pastry chef is at it again with this deconstructed pumpkin cake with a no-bake pumpkin cheese cake upper. Topped with toasted pumpkin seed crumble and salt caramel drizzle: pure bliss. I came to Salt Traders for the happy hour from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.. Cocktails are $1 off and Beginnings are $5 off during happy hour. The restaurant vibe is very coastal and beqchy. I started off with the Cantarito cocktail with tequila, fresh citrus juices, and grapefruit soda, typically served in a clay cup called a jarrito de barro or cántaro. I ordered the steamed mussels with andouille, garlic, charred tomato, white wine, herb butter, grilled bread and the grilled oysters that I customized with Parmesan herb garlic butter. The oysters were a good size and had a great texture and taste. I also ordered a frozen grapefruit margarita with Monte Alban 100% Agave Silver, Paula's Grapefruit, lime, grapefruit, citrus salt and the crab fried rice. My friend and I chose to eat at Salt Traders for two reasons: it was close to Zilker Park, which was having a "Bands in Bloom" concert, and they have a Happy Hour from 4-6pm, with $5 off the "Beginnings" menu. I chose the Steamed Mussels dish with fennel, garlic, charred tomatoes and grilled bread. It was $13, but with the Happy Hour discount, it was only $8....well worth it! The mussels were steamed to perfection, served in a delicious sauce that begged to be sopped up with the grilled bread. I don't normally eat bread, but I couldn't resist. I questioned the slightly burnt bread, but it worked and was worth the diversion from my low-carb gluten-free diet. My family and I decided to go to Salt Traders for a Christmas Eve Eve Lunch. My husband made a reservation online about a week in advance. We drove up, parked easily, and went in. The hostess kindly greeted us and my husband told her that we had a reservation. We were seated quickly. Once seated we were greeted by a kind waiter that gave us our menus and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We ordered waters. After getting our waters he took our order. For starters my husband ordered us some bread and butter, and some hush puppies. We were also given a little sampler of salmon and two chips. For my main dish I ordered the steak and fries as my main dish. The bread and butter was good. The bread was nice and thick and the butter gave it a little flavor. The slices of pickles were yummy as they had a sweet flavor. The hush puppies were also good. I don't usually eat them but tried one. They have a crispy exterior and a soft interior. As for the salmon sampler I didn't know what it was and just wanted to try it based on what it looked like and it was delicious. I'm not a fan of seafood and wouldn't have tried it if I knew it was Salmon but I am glad I tried it. The steak and frites was very tasty. The steak itself was cooked medium perfectly and the poblano cream on top of it was very flavorful. The fries also had some flavor but I mixed them with the poblano cream for extra flavor.
