Whenever I drive up to the Bay Area from the OC I always make sure to drop by Modesto just to eat the food from La Pizz Cafe. Not only is this spot family owned but the food is damn good. This spot hands down has the best pizza in Modesto (and the surrounding area, maybe even all of NorCal). You definitely have to try the Mega Meat XL, I recommend it with the white sauce, it's soooooo good. For all the calzone lovers, their calzones are a must try and they sell them at such a great price point for the consumers. I didn't get chance to try their sandwiches (I always eat too much pizza) but they look amazing and I've been told they're as good as the pizza which says a lot. You can't go wrong with the wings, cheese bread, fries, and everything else that they have on the menu. I'm a bit overdue so I think I should plan out a trip to the bay area just to get eat at La Pizza Cafe. read more

Bowling is my least favorite activity in the entirety of the world -- there are honestly few activities I avoid with such extreme fear and anxiety as I do with bowling. Unfortunately for me, Binky used to be an avid bowler (he was on a team and everything....!!), and in all the years I've known him, I've never ONCE stepped into a bowling alley with him. Last night, that all changed when our friends in Modesto invited us out for a night of bowling fun. I opted to sit out because I'd much rather sit/cheer/eat/read Yelp reviews/silently meditate/fetch Binky new balls when he got angry with the one he was using/etc. than fling a much-too-heavy iron sphere down a wooden plank to knock out some white and red pins (...most likely throwing out my arm/shoulder cuff/wrist in the process.....YEAHHHH, no thank you). My only condolence was this little pizza shop in the corner of the bowling alley. I ordered a large Hawaiian pizza for our friends (only ~$15!!) and waited approximately 20 minutes for the pizza to cook. The staff behind the counter laughed at me because I kept checking in every few minutes or so to see if it was done -- I was hungry, okay!? I am happy to report that they seem to FRESHLY make each and every pizza pie (impressive for a bowling alley pizza stand). The large pizza was surprisingly enough for the five of us (....I know, I should have ordered more -- I wasn't completely thinking last night...). My expectations were rather low for the pizza, all things considering. Therefore, I was PLEASANTLY surprised when I opened the box and found a BEAUTIFUL pizza with PLENTY of pineapples and nice, slightly charred pieces of ham. I gingerly took a bite of the pizza and MMMMM OMGGGGGGGGGG I was FLOORED at how good this pizza was -- I grew up in NY, so it's been a LONG time since I've gotten really excited about pizza. The sauce to cheese ratio was PERFECTION (I prefer less sauce). The cheese was MELTY goodness (stringy/pulliness A+). AND the crust was chewy, yet firm (not too doughy). The toppings were generously distributed over our pizza -- nice, fresh ingredients. YUM, YUM, YUM, YUM. Binky loved the pizza too as I fed him bites in between turns. He loved it despite the fact that his score considerably dropped after eating the pizza (I think the deliciousness distracted him). PRO-TIP: Don't eat the pizza if you're a SERIOUS bowler -- you will undoubtedly lose all concentration upon biting into this delicious, freshly-made pizza. Bowling has become my favorites sport thanks to La Pizza Cafe. I will gladly come again and again and again and sit on the sidelines JUST to get another bite of this heavenly pizza. read more

Poor service. We called in our order and arrived to pick up our pizza and the lady that works there was standing there talking to her friend. Hadn't even started working on our order. The people that work there are a little intimidating to look at and not friendly whatsoever. Can't imagine a pizza would be good enough to outway the negatives of this place.
